MBP 15 non-retina 2012--Screen saver turning on while typing

New 2012 MacBook Pro 15 (non-retina)
While typing or doing other items the screen saver turns on briefly and then fades away. Have reset PRAM and SMC, deleted screen saver pref. file in the library. I have not transferd my old accounts. Have updated all software. Any thoughts. BTW-- This is the second MBP '12 I have gotten. The first crashed and died 6 hours after turning it on. The screen went blank and 3 beeps were the only sign that it onced worked.

Hmmm, today, my new non-retina MBP was behaving wierdly out in the garage, screen cycling between full brightness to very dark with a cycle of mabye 5 seconds. Hasn't happened in the house, so I feel it is either a brightness or heat sensor issue.

Screen Saver Turning On During Backup

I am a professional photographer and have huge files on my computer. I am trying to back it up and it is taking a very long time. I am trying to go to sleep, and let it back up as I sleep, however, the screen saver keeps turning on. I went into system prefrences and changed the proper settings so that it does not sleep but it continues to go on (the screen saver) ... I am curious if the back up still continues while the screen saver is on? I need to sleep and need it to continue while I sleep please help!! I am on time crunch...
(to be clear, I am leaving my computer for long amounts of time and this is when the screen saver turns on... it is not instant... )

I utilize both a screen saver and the show desktop feature but have never seen this problem in the past. You might play around with your screen saver settings to see if they have any affect. You might also try another computer just to make sure something larger scale isn't going on. Also, testing with other programs to make sure it isn't a general OS issue is always a good idea. Other possibilities include changing your Video Driver settings, updating your video driver, and uninstalling - reinstalling.

MBP 15 (non-retina) - price drop ever?

So, I'm most interested in the MBP 15 non-retina...
but the latest price updates and new processors on... everything else, makes me think that Apple will just run out the supply of the non retinas until they're gone.
Does this sound like an accurate assessment?
If that is the case, what is the most likely scenario in regards to pricing and processor updates? Will they ever see a price reduction?
Just want to know whether to buy now or wait, kind of confused as to why pricing/configuration was untouched in mid-feb when the prices of the retinas were dropped.

Can I stop a screen saver kicking in while listening to iTunes 11?

Hi,
Since updating to iTunes 11 my screen saver kicks in after a period of time (default setting). This is so annoying because before I updated, I used to have iTunes 10 running in full screen cover flow mode and this temporarily disabled my screen saver from starting while it was running in this mode.
Is there any way I can run iTunes 11 in the same way without having to mess around with my screen saver settings?
Why Apple decided to remove the cover flow feature in iTunes 11 is beyond comprehension and hope they reinstate it again soon.

2012 MBP 15" non retina MAJOR CPU temps!!!

Hey guys. First time Mac user. Actually its my wifes. Bought it for her for christmas.
First thing I did on christmas day was start benchmarking. Installed Vmware and Parallels, started expierement with virtualiztion etc.
System specs
15" MBP non retina
Highres glossy display
i7-3720 @ 2.6ghz
8gb ram
750gb HD
Nvidia 650GT 1024mb Graphics
Im playing around I notice the system get VERY hot. When I say very, I mean hitting 100+ degrees C. Easily surpassing my watercooled desktop machine.
Idle sitting in OSX with nothing running 51-55 degrees, Idling in Parallels 8 (win7 x64) the CPU Die is at 58-60 degrees. Stress testing brings the CPU to 100+ degress easily with fans running at 5000+ rpm.
Even Idling in a game the CPU hits 102 celcius with the GPU running over 90.
Is this normal. If I put this on my lap, my legs are toast.
Have screen shots if needed.

I AM SO HAPPY. I figured out how to fix this!!!!
1. get Temperature Monitor by Bresink
2. get smcFanControl - google it
3. Install them and get smcfancontrol to display the RPM up by your name (top bar)
4. Check your temps with Temp Monitor, mine were about 95 (203 f) celcius when playing Minecraft
5. Click the temperature and RPM sign the smc put on your top bar
6. change Active Setting form DEFAULT to HIGHER RPM
It makes your RPM go to about ~4000, which you still can't hear, but it brought my temps from an average of 95 celcius (203 f) when playing a game to about 57 (135 f). I am not kidding. It is amazing.
Make sure to turn the Active Setting back to DEFAULT after playing your game.
Do this every time you play, it might work the fans harder, but that is better than turning your computer into a heater.

I'm seeing that the "rocketfish" adapter is not handling the job (from these forums).
I enjoy watching youtube videos, hulu, etc on the big screen through my laptop. The other Windows laptops I'ved had from Sony, HP, Dell, all had HDMI and was easy peasy.
I don't have the patience to buy and return 10 different types of adaters (nor would Best Buy appreciate that)

Retina MBP or Non-Retina?

I'm trying to decide between getting the 15 Retina MBP or the (non-retina) MBP?

the Retina is lighter, more expensive, automatically comes with an SSD which is faster then a regular hard drive, and has the higher-res Retina Display. it is also non-upgradable, so you need to purchase the machine you want for the next 3-4 years now.
the regular MBP is cheaper, upgradable later on (more cheaply if you buy 3rd party RAM/HD/SSD), comes with the same processor, is heavier. i personally love the anti-glare screen.
the choice is basically yours. if you want lighter and the Retina Display, or upgradable and cheaper. both are nice machines. and as was said, numerous discussions on this.

Mac OS 10.5.6 - Screen saver takes over while playing DVD.

Since I installed 10.5.6, when I am playing a DVD using the DVD Player, the screen saver takes over the display and I have to disable it in order to continue to see the DVD video. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have just been disabling the screen saver by setting it to never. Kind of a pain.

If you go to System Preferences > Desktop & Screensaver and set it to never, it will turn off the Screensaver forever. If you want the Screensaver back again later you must reset it again. I know this is a royal pain in the your-know-what but it is the best suggestion I have for now.

You to might try this. If enough of express our displeasure maybe they might see our point of view and change things so that the screensaver doesn't interrupt programs that don't require input.

Rezound hangs up call when I try to get screen to turn on while in call

I am having a couple of issues that are really driving me nuts on my phone. The number 1 issue and it became an issue with the ICS upgrade is that when I am in a call, my screen goes dark, like normal, however I cannot for the life of me get back to the in call screen. The only button that does anything is the power button and when I push it, it takes me back to the in call screen and then promptly hangs the call up. Does anyone know of anything I can do to change this from happening?
The other issue and once again this started happening after the ICS upgrade, is that when I wake my phone up it arbitrarily picks a website to open to instead of opening directly to the home screen. Just infuriating!
The call issue is huge though because I am doing a lot of business calls from my phone and without a way to get my screen to turn on in call is not acceptable.

It's a proximity sensor calibration issue. Unfortunately, with a stock device, there is nothing you can do to fix it. Cap customer support and have them do a warranty exchange.

Apple TV 5.0.1 update - Screen Saver kicks in while watching Netflix content.

I just updated my Apple TV (2nd generation) to 5.0.1, and after the update, I went to Netflix to watch a TV show. It started and played just fine, but after a few minutes, the video disappeared and the screensaver kicked in, while the audio from the show continued to play. Of course, I can tap one of the directional buttons on the remote to get the picture back, but I figured this might be an overlooked bug from the update.
Is anyone else experiencing anything similar?

I got almost the same problem.
I'm streaming video from an IPhone 4S using AirPlay to my AppleTV3 with SW 5.1(5201). After a few minutes the screen saver kicks in but the audio from the video is still playing. By pressing the directional buttons on the Apple remote the screen saver disappear and the video is back.
This is an annoying bug that's been around for a few years.

Open System Preferences / Desktop & Screen Saver then select the Screen Saver tab.
Where you see: Start screen saver
Adjust the slider so the screen saver doesn't activate so soon.
If that doesn't help, open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left now open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.screensaver.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if that makes a difference.

Mac Book Pro mid 2012 screen colours turned red and purple (similar to rainbow colour)

When I turned on my MacBook earlier, which was in sleep mode for all night, all the colours turned red and purple. The screen pixels were all a kind of red but the computer was working as usual. I turned it off and then back on and the screen was ok. Then I turned it off again for about 6 hours and now the colours are ok. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I am running on a MacBook Pro 13'' Mid 2012 (OS X Maverics) and it is the first time it's done anything like this. I read on Apple Support that maybe the CPU is failing, but when i run the System Diagnostics Test I think it turned out ok. I appreciate all answers.

Automatic Telstra screen saver turns on.

Hi all.
Still on the subject of learning the 6120 Classic.
I purchased this phone outright, new and unlocked.
The Telstra logo and the Telstra rubbish in still on it although I still have not decided who I want as my provider.
What I have noticed the when I put the phone down, after a short time the screen turns off. This is good!
But what is "not good" is that after a minute or 2, the screen comes to life and I get the scrolling advert shown the Telstra Next G.
This lasts for about 30 seconds and then it goes off. I do not think it comes back on again after that as I have not seen it do so.....at least so far.
Can anyone please tell me how I can get rid of the advert?

you bet, go to the system preferences for expose (or spotlight: "hot corners") and you should be able to change it to something better or turn that off.
