MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging?  Help

Both the system and the charger are still under warranty. If you feel you have a defective part you should take both into apple to be checked out and replaced if found defective.
I also sugest you buy the applecare extended warranty before your standard one year warranty expires, you can only buy it during the original one year warranty. Once that has expired you can no longer buy it.
To fix any mac computer once out of warranty is expensive and even more so for the retina models.

  • MacBook Air power adapter, getting extremely hot to the touch, is this normal?

Just purchased my MacBook Air 13", I'm very impressed with it but, I have one question. Is this power adapter supposed to be like this hot, I could fry an egg on it..
Just curious, maybe I need to return the supply for a new one? Is this condition normal?

    Hi TOWjr,
The power adapter will definitely get very warm if you're charging the battery at the same time that the machine is under high CPU/GPU load. So yes, it can be quite normal.
Try this... let the battery run low (sub 25%). Turn off the machine, connect it to AC power and let it fully recharge. During the recharge process (Amber LED) is it as warm, cooler or hotter than what you're experiencing now? After the recharge is done let it sit for about 30-45 minutes. Is it as warm, cooler or hotter?

  • My shuffle becomes extremely hot while charging, and won't charge

I've tried to recharge my shuffle several times, with no luck.  It's plugged in correctly, and also becomes extremely hot as it's connected to the Mac.
Anyone have this issue?  non-charging shuffle?

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. It is probably a more serious issue than just the charging port, but this is a good first step.

  • Macbook Pro Magsafe Power Adapter is very hot. I never noticed this before. Is this normal?

Has anyone experienced this? Is it normal to have this adapter soooo  hot?!

    Warm to touch is normal.

  • Is it normal for my charger adapter to get hot while charging.

IIs it normal for my charger to get hot while charging.  Very hot

Hot/ Very Hot are very relative.
Its normal for it to get hot while charging, but if its really unconfortably hot to touch even briefly then there might be an issue.

  • Question about MagSafe Power Adapter

I just got a new magsafe power adapter and wanted to know if leaving it connected to the electricity for too long damage it?
Last question, my battery is dead, should I take it off andrun on the adapter, or just leave the battery on?
A friend of mine told me tht "dead batteries" ruin power adapter?
    Thanks all

I'm afraid you should buy a new battery, Frank.
Running on the power adaptor alone will slow down your MBP. - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332
Running with a seriously defective battery installed, though, may not only place a heavy load on your adaptor but may result in the battery deforming (causing other damage) or worse.
Leaving your adaptor plugged into the power when not being used probably won't hurt it, but it will use more electricity than a fluoro lightbulb.

No it won't do any harm
(It will just draw what's required and then shut off as normal)

  • 85w Magsafe Power Adapter Plastic cover

THe 85w Magsafe Power adapter comes with a plastic protective cover for the magnetic DC connector . I lost mine. Does anyone know if Apple or anyone else sells it. Im just really bothered by it. Plus I dont want dust to accumulate on the magnetic DC connector.

The magnet is in the MBP not in the connector on the AC adapter.
i'm not really sure about that. I wish you could just answer my query and be helpful. Or correct me and at the same time offer a solution or answer to the question. That would really help. Don't post if you don't want to help.
But for arguments sake. According to:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=816 A0BD3&fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/power&nplm=MA938LL/A#overview
"The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a MAGNETIC DC CONNECTOR that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the MAGNETIC DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.
    plus, this apple page:
    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html
    says that,
"Innovative right down to the power cord._The MacBook Pro power adapter with MagSafe connector is just that: a magnetic connection instead of a physical one._"
I dont know, maybe the mbp connector has a magnet also, but im very sure according to apple the 85w Magsafe adapter has a magnet.
Anyway, it doesnt really matter to me where the magnet is. As long as it magnetically connects.

  • Why does it take me so many tries before I can get the amber and/ or green light to come on, on my MagSafe power adapter?

I have been having a problem for a little while now, and I have decided to overlook it for the most part. However, it is really starting to get on my nerves. The issue I don't believe is with the MacBook Pro itself, however with the MagSafe power adapter. The adapter itself is in great condition, it is brand new, but when I attach it to the computer, the computer reads that it is there, as it shows it is charging or is charged as shown by the battery indicator in the top right of the OS X toolbar. However, the amber and/ or green light doesn't come on, right away - the first time - most of the time, on the adapter head itself. I usually have to unplug it and plug it back in multiple times before I get a light to come on. I have tried to clean the adapter itself, and the MagSafe port on the computer, but that seems to only help for a short amount of time, and it doesn't look real dirty, or like any pins are stuck on the adapter. I have also tried other outlets, but that doesn't seem to help, so I don't think I am getting dirty power.

Unfortunately, it *could* be the computer. And it could be the adapter.  Aside from trying Resetting the System Management Controller there's not much you can do except taking it in for testing.

  • I need help identifying which Magsafe Power Adapter I need for my Macbook Pro Model A1398, EMC 2673?

I need help identifying which Magsafe Power Adapter I need for my Macbook Pro Model A1398, EMC 2673?

Provided the computer-end fits, you are free to use one with a HIGHER Wattage rating. No damage whatsoever will be done to any component, but it will likely run cooler (but may be slightly heavier).
If you use one with too LOW a Wattage rating, you will not be able to charge and run at the same time, and your computer's top speed (for its most intensive computations) will be limited.

  • HT4124 can I keep the magsafe power adapter plugged in to computer all the time?

Can I keep the magsafe power adapter plugged in to my computer from the power source at all times?

it is ok to keep it in all the time, BUT at least once a month let it run the battery down to 10-15% then do a full recharge.

    Hello,
My white McBook (2008 or 2009) recently stopped turning on.  When I hook up the Magsafe power adapter, the light shows green, but the computer will not turn on, or make a sound.  I've tried the re-boot option, but nothing works.  I first thought I needed a new battery because the lights at the back are all off, but shouldn't the computer turn on once the power adapter is hooked up and the light on the Magsafe adapter shows green?  I'm a computer doofus, so please be kind.  Please advise!  Thanks in advance.

Can you plug in your 60w magsafe power adapter to peru without harming it?

Yes you will need a plug adapter, the power supply is rated for 100v-240v. Apple has a travel kit full of adapters you could also check the web for a particular one for your needs.
