MBP 17'': Best sound ever heard from a notebook !

Hallo,
besides all this buzzing around with whines and other flaws, I have to say, that the MBP 17'' has the best sound I've ever heard from a notebook. It's a pleasure to listen, not some quacking you hear from other notebooks.
Sorry, had to post this
Stunning sound !
regards
Marc

I have to agree, 17-inch MacBook Pro does sound excellent. Having used at least three dozen different laptop models, these are by far the best.
MacBook speakeres are designed similarly to the 12" PowerBook ones - they face backward and are supposed to reflect off the bottom of the LCD bezel. In reality, even though there is a center "subwoofer", the sound is muffled and muddy.
Now, does anyone know if there's a 3rd speaker within a 17-inch MacBook Pro for a better low-end response? I haven't seen any pictures of one disassembled yet.

Might be an incompatible extension or plugin ...
Try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • My iPhone 3G has suddenly lost vibration and sound/ringtones(also does not change aspect when tilted). An incoming phone call can be answered but no sound is heard from the speakers9even though the caller can hear what I am saying). Any ideas?

My 3G iPhone has suddenly lost all sound and vibration, it has also lost the "tilt" capability on-screen. An incoming call is registered without a sound, however, the caller can hear everything being said by me(whilst I hear nothing at all from his/her call).
    Any suggestions??

    *Update*
I thought I had found the offending 'app' namely "Songpop."
I regularly use "Songpop" on my phone late at night via my wifi connection.
All enteries on my phonebill are at midnight (even though I have a data allowance it was excluded from allowance). I switched 3G off on Friday, played "Songpop" at midnight and at the exact time I got a "Server Error" message.
I posted a message on the "Songpop" support forum. At first they said this was a problem relating to my ISP.
I have spoken to my ISP and asked if there are connection drops at the time I have been billed (ie to establish if my wifi dropped and 3G kicked in without my knowledge) and have been advised that there aren't any connection drops at that time.
"Songpop" have now responded that "This is an issue to take up with Apple Support"  see: http://support.songpop.fm/songpop/topics/playing_songpop_on_phone_via_wifi_but_i ncurring_download_data_charges_for_3g_useage?utm_content=topic_link&utm_medium=e mail&utm_source=reply_notification
Hopefully someone at Apple can respond ....

  • How can i get the best sound from my electric guitar?

    Hello,
I'm new to the Apple forums. I have come seeking some knowledge about how I can make my guitar sound really good like a metal/rock sound while at the same time not sounding unnaturally distorted but clean.
I have a Macbook Air with a Griffin iMic. I have tried some of built in presets for metal/rock but they are either too noisy (background hiss) or they arn't rock like enough. I like the metal ones but they have too much hiss and it ruins my recordings (sounds like a jumbled mess in the end...)
I'm not only new to the forums, but i'm also new to electric guitar and peddles. I'm certainly not new to guitar itself though, been playing for 7 years. What I really seek is what kind of settings I can have like a combination of the best amp model + pedals along with settings or effects to apply to it.
Thanks in advance, I hope i provided enough info.

You can by pass the iMic by using the same adaptor and plugging straight into the Line in on your mac. Try it and see if there is a difference in your sound.
Regarding settings, I was able to develop one which has minimal noise levels but also some distortion. I will defiantly experiment more...
Yeah, the key is to start with as clean a sound as possible and then add in little bits. Start adding with a Chorus effect first, then maybe a slight delay. Try all of your setting with both strumming and picking, both fast and slow, as you often have to match your playing technique with how the effects are set up. Then add Fuzz/Distortion etc. Once you have done that then reverse the set up sequence by starting with the major signal modifiers like Distortion etc and add the chorus, flanger, phasers after. These sorts of strategies can change the way things sound. Don't forget a bit of reverb.
The key is to start simple with mild alterations. Also, find a few guitar sounds you like from your favorite songs where you can hear good clear guitar sounds. Maybe create a playlist in iTunes and use these as a reference to compare between what you like and what you are creating. This A-B'ing will go along way to helping you develop your 'taste'. Its great to hear things side by side.
Goggle each of the guitar effects and learn what they do, make a few simple notes as a reference. Basically educate yourself.
and invest in a M-Audio Fast track 2 as i suspect the griffin is causing the noise.
Personally I would recommend something a bit better than the M-Audio Fast Track USB. The quality of your recorded sound is dependent on the sound converters in your external devices. I am not sure there is any advantage over your built in sound card verses the Fast Track. There are other things to consider with sound cards so it pays to do some planning and research.

  • Best Sound from Audigy 2 ZS

I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and I want the best sound quality I can get from my Sound Card.
In the Creative Audio Console, I have a few questions on what changes I should make. For the Decoder, do I click "Use Built-in Decoder" or click "SPDIF Passthrough (Dolby Digital / D T S Digital Out). For Bit Accurate, do I check "Enable Bit Accurate Recording" because for S/PDIF-IN and CD Digital it says "Unkown or invalid signal". And for SPDIF I/O, for SPDIF Input Settings do I click "default", "Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-In decode" or "SPDIF Bypass". And for the finial thing, for Digital Output (PCM) Sampling Rate Settings, do I check "44. KhZ (Stereo Only), "48 Khz" or "96 KHz".
I really do not know what those things do and if it will make a big difference but I want to get the best sound quality out of my sound card. Also if there are any other 3rd party drivers or utlities that will boot my sound performance, please let me know. I am going to hold up on upgrading to the X-Fi until prices go down. Thanks.

    >For the Decoder, do I click "Use Built-in Decoder" or click "SPDIF Passthrough"
That would depend on the quality of the external decoder and how the decoder (ie. surround amplifier) and the card are connected. Since the Audigy is crippled in the sense that many of its features are not available through its SPDIF output - because it can't encode multichannel digital audio and won't digitally play 96 KHz Audio DVD for legal reasons - most users will have an analog connection between card and hifi components (e.g. 5.). In that case, "use built-in decoder" is the option to use. However, your receiver should have a true analog path, ie. the 5. or whatever inputs should not be digitized and go trough another DSP in the receiver. Otherwise, sound quality would suffer a bit from too many analog-digital-analog conversions. If your surround amplifier digitizes analog sources - as cheap models tend to do - a fully digital path might improve sound quality. But you will then be limited by the poor design of the Audigy's digital section. For example, sound of games will only be available in stereo over an optical cable (Video DVDs are not affected, their signal is transported correctly). Everyting considered, you might want to have two connections: optical for Video DVD pass-through ("external decoder"), analog for games and DVD Audio disks. Btw, the analog outs of the card sound very good, in my opinion.
    >(Dolby Digital / D T S Digital Out). For Bit Accurate, do I check "Enable Bit Accurate Recording" because for S/PDIF-IN and CD Digital it says "Unkown or invalid signal".
Forget bit-accuracy with Creative Audigy sounds cards, these cards resample anything to 48 khz (if the central processor on the card is used in any way, shape or form). For bit-accuracy, you should get a different card. If your source is a CD, don't read the CD through the sound card. Don't even connect CD dri've and sound card - to remove a source of noise - but let Windows record disks digitally over the IDE bus. DVB/DVD is 48 KHz (or?), so CDs should be the primary victim of resampling. If you encode a CD into MP3, encode to 48KHz, ie. let the encoder to the resampling.
    >And for the finial thing, for Digital Output (PCM) Sampling Rate Settings, do I check "44. KhZ (Stereo Only), "48 Khz" or "96 KHz".
I would use 48 KHz because that's the cards working frequency.

  • How to get the best sound from iMac?

Has anyone heard of "Pure Music"?  Supposedly it's able to make music sound better.  I downloaded it for a 15 day trial but haven't figured out how to get it to work with itunes radio.  I'm using Klipsch 2.1 speakers with a late '13 iMac 3.1 quad core i7 w/ Yosemite.  I'm not unhappy with the sound.  Just wondering if there are any ways to enhance or tweak to get the best sound out of my system.

*just a little update, I fixed the problem.
I was suppose to put the Nvidia driver controller for the select program tab as well
Everything is running much smoother now, and I also had to turn off eco mode lol.

  • 17 inch late 2011 MBP with no sound from right speaker (Help)

    Hello community,
I purchased a new MBP 17inch model and noticed sound only comes from one speaker.  I've checked the system preferences and moved the balance 100% to the right and no sound at all.  I don't believe this is normal, but before I make a case I wanted to speak with the community first. • For best sound quality should volume be controlled from iPad or BlueTooth speaker?

For best sound quality when listening to music, should the volume be controlled from iPad or from a connected Bluetooth speaker?

    Pajaro wrote:
For good sound quality, flat response is the most important thing. Take a look at qloud, http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34412, and find yourself a very good microphone.
Then you will probably want to set a global equalizer for your machine. You can try with alsa, http://krustev.net/w/articles/Global_eq … _for_ALSA/.
If ALSA isn't finegrained enough, jack has a lot more flexibility, except for the fact that it doesn't allow you to set default output device, so you will need a helper application to redirect all output connections to your equalizer.
Well, i would say this is quite subjective. Untouched signal is superior to any equalized sound in my opinion, but i know this debate is never satisfying

  • C1-02 Sound heard from Earpiece and Speaker both e...

I recently bought C1-02 with FW 3.40, later I updated to FW 5.40.  The problem is that the sound from Earpiece is being heard from back speaker also, without turning the speaker ON.
If I turn ON the speaker, there is no difference.  When I play music from Speaker, its even heard from the earpiece.
Is this a flaw in the c1-02 model or firmware or just my phone?
If the flaw is in the model, Will there be a firmware update to fix this issue or is this a hardware flaw?

Sounds like a problem in your phone, it's definitely not a model issue.
Have your phone checked in a Nokia Care Point.

  • Making a sound recorded inside sound like it is heard from outside

    Hi there,
I am trying to make a sound recorded inside sound like it is heard from outside (in the street). Any suggestion about a good filter?
    Thanks,
    JCD

    - I hope the inside recording didn't have too much reverberation or 'room tone' (imagine recording it in a washroom). The indoors sound needs to be flat (no echo from walls, no background sound)
    - Reverb puts dead sound into a space with walls. You can add reverb, but you can't take it away. If your character is on a football pitch but you record the dialog in a washroom, it's not going to work. If your scene is in the Louvre, and your talent is recorded in a voice-over booth (or in a car or in the bedroom surrounded by blankets - hey it works), you can add the reverb.
    - Cut out a lot of the bass frequencies. Nice clean indoor sound has too much of it. The Big Outdoors lacks the reflectors that makes for big boomy sound (remember, big sound can 'sit on the shoulder' of the viewer)
    - Add location sound, so if your visual location is windswept moors, then lots of wind noise on the mic. If it's city, then lots of traffic hum, tyre noise, sudden car horns and stuff. Take your VO and pull out the bass, and you're 'there'.
    - Match camera perspective to voice perspective. If you did a close mic in a quiet room my guess is that the talent spoke softly and in a measured fashion, so your outdoor shots must be similar OR strikingly different (as if we're seeing into their mind).
    - If you need talent to deliver outdoor lines in voice-over (quiet room) for a frenetic environment, mic them up 'distant' and get them to speak loudly. Position yourself (the interviewer) a long way away from the interviewee. Mic them up with a Lav, but make out you're using on-camera mics, so they have to speak up.
    - If you're doing foley with amateurs, get them to replay the part with a radio lav (they think it's backup, it's your main) and put the biggest mic you can find as the main mic. Sometimes people need something to act to, and a lav does not cut it.

  • MBP makes wierd sound on top left keyboard when waking up from sleep

    Hello fellow Mac fans
I just received a new MBP from my other one because the old one had that sleep black screen issue. The new one is less than a day old. When I open the lid to wake it up, it seems to make a weird sound on the top right near the del. key. It last for about 1 sec and dissapears. Im not sure if its the hard drive or a fan? Could it be the harddrive head moving? Is it suppose to when it warms up from sleep? My older one, which was only 1.5 weeks old since I returned it, never made a sound like that. I hope I dont have another issue with my new MBP Thanks again
    Mark

So it's not an alarm sound? When I had my MBP replaced (I had the same black screen issue and I warn you it may come back... it seems like it may be a third party software issue, widgets or a screensaver) I woke it up one day and an actual alarm started going off and I had to do a hard restart to make it stop.
As for different sounds between MBPs, I've tried four different ones and I don't think any two sounded the same, from the optical drive to the fans or hard drive (and the hard drive is in the lower left corner, by the way). It could be the optical drive or the fans spinning up.

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

ive heard 3.5mm aux isnt the best... i would prefer usb, but then i would need to invest in a dac. would any cheap dac do if the soundcard in the mac is good? or is this not the case

For listening to music the headphone jack is more than adequate.

  • Help me on choosing the best sound quality for my music on my itunes!!!

I heard that AIFF Encoder is the best sound quality you can import your music into Itunes. On the settings for AIFF Encoder do you know what Sample Rate, Sample Size, and what Channel I should set it to? Should I just leave them on Auto? How about if I have a HDCD? What are your suggestions?

I agree use Apple Lossless. Bizarrely it is also easier to share Apple Lossless with Windows Media Player than AIFF.
I have my entire iTunes library in Apple Lossless and shared with WMP and also Media Center 2005. I can also use it in full lossless quality with Roku SoundBridge, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod, etc. etc. etc.

    Hi sallywinddancer,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.
I see you are having sound issues when you hookup your tv to your notebook with an HDMI cable.
I would be happy to help you. Firstly, a few more details about your notebook would be helpful, as there are many different versions of the HP 2000 Notebook. Please read the following documents, if you need help in finding your product/model number and OS version.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Has your HDMI/TV connection ever had sound before, and if so were there any updates that could have affected it?
Some general information that may be helpful for you:
Connecting a Monitor, Projector or TV (Windows 8)
Overview of HDMI and DVI Connections for PCs
In the following link, please pay particular attention to the section on Troubleshooting TV setup as a second monitor.
Using Two or More Monitors with One Computer (Windows 8)
Other things that could help would be to insure that you have updated all the video and audio related drivers for your notebook. The drivers can normally be found from the product page for your notebook, or from the original chipset manufacturer. I would link that page to this, but I need the exact product/model number to get the right page for you.
Another thing that could help with drivers is the:  HP Support Assistant as it can automate the driver updates for you.
Please let me know if any of this information has been useful to you, or if you need any further help.
