MBP 2.5 gHz vs MBP 2.4 gHz Display Difference

Has anyone notice the 2.4 gHz MBP screen looks (in terms of color and appearance) like the 2.4 MacBook (not Pro) screen. My friend has a 2.4 gHz MBP and I have the 2.5 gHz MBP and there is definitely a difference in screen brightness and appearance

The part number for the panels in all the new MBPs, I am told by an Apple rep, is the same. What they don't tell you, however, is that the there are different manufacturers of the panels and that it is a lottery as to which panel you will get. Using Colorsync Utility, I was able to determine that mine is a 9C85 - the other is a 9C84. The 9C85 is made by Taiwanese manufacturer Chimei and the other is made by either LG or Samsung.
As you all know, when you buy a LCD TV, you will choose one model over another even if the specs are the same - it all comes down to personal preference probably borne out of the quality of the manufacturing process. So the MBP you see in the store, may not be the same as the one you take home.
I don't know about you, but I do not believe that Apple should get their parts from different manufacturers for such an important component. Everybody loves the screen in the MBA, myself included. At least it comes from the same manufacturer - AU Optronics. The one you see in the store, is the one you will get. Apple probably can use one manufacturer in this instance because of volumes. Volumes or not, I'd rather wait for the best screen, rather than be lumped with something from a Taiwanese company that I would never knowingly by a product from - I thought when I was buying my new MBP, that it was made to the highest standards in ALL respects.
The screen, after all, is the thing you look at the most.
Imagine if Apple started using different manufacturers for the CPU - why should it be any different for the screen?

How can I use my MBP's(late 2008) display as a secondary screen for MCP retina display?

I've got my new MBP retina dispaly and I would like to use my old MBP as a secondary display.
Is there any way to do this without installing different types of software like ScreenRecycler?
I tried to connect the only cable I have which is an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable but nothing really happened!

However I'm looking for using the old MBP's screen as a secondary display so that I can have two screens like an external monitor.
Also when you use the share screen it has some delay because of the wireless network.

MBP not detecting external display

I encountered a strange problem today when I tried re-connecting my external monitor: it is not being detected by OS X.
I tried everything I could think of; I selected "detect displays" in preferences, I restarted the computer, I dis- and re-connected everything, I reset the PRAM, I tried connecting to a different monitor, and nothing seems to work. When I disconnect and reconnect the DVI cable, the laptop's screen flashes blue like it normally does, but nothing appears on the external monitor's screen. For the record I'm using the Dell 2209WA, and I haven't had any problems like this yet.
If anybody has any other suggestions as to what I should try doing, please let me know. Thanks!

Hey all, did a software update on my partner's mbp yesterday (10.5.8, security update 2009-006) and had the same thing happen where our external viewsonic display was no longer being detected. Plugging the cable in and out of the mini display port had the same effect already mentioned here where the mbp screen flashed blue like it was about to recognise the external display, but then nothing. Selecting detect displays from display preferences also had no effect. Tried resetting the PRAM and also the PMU, still nothing. So I shut down the mbp; disconnected the mini display cable; then turned off the viewsonic monitor at the power outlet and left it off for 10-20 seconds. Then I turned the viewsonic's power outlet back on, started up the mbp, turned the monitor on and plugged the mini display port cable in and the external display was back and working properly. Have shut down/restarted numerous times since then and it's all still working normally. Not quite sure how/why this busted in the first place, or why turning the viewsonic off at the power outlet seems to have fixed it, but it might be worth a shot for those experiencing similar problems... and it sure beats having to install/reinstall a different os version (which was going to be my next option)!

Mbp not recognizing external display

I have a 2010 MBP 2.8 and I'm trying to connect to a 24" Samsung LCD display to use as a 2nd monitor.   I'm using the mini display to DVI. And plugging a DVI to HDMI cord to that.
When I plug it into the tv and computer. The screen on computer flashes blue a couple times then nothing happens.   The computer is not recognizing the display.    I'm running Mountian Lion obviously and theres no option in "Displays" in preferences.
Am I doing something wrong? I had a old Powerbook G4 that I did this with all the time with Leopard OS.    Whats changed?

I recently purchased MBP retina w/Thunderbolt Display

I recently purchased MBP retina with Thunderbolt display. Also purchased Apple Care for the MBP. Does the Apple Care cover the Thunderbolt display also? Or do I need to purchase additional Apple Care for the display? Back in 2006 when I bought previous MBP with Cinema Display, the Apple Care purchase covered both. Does this still apply or have the rules changed?

XP on my MBP and an external display

I am posting here because I got no love in the boot camp directory. Hi, I have a macbook pro (2.33 GHz intel core 2 duo) that I use for both work and home. We are remodeling our home and I am finally getting a home office put in. I have dreamed for years of getting a large external display for when I work at home. Some of my work requires Windows programs, so I bootcamped my mbp, installed windows XP (SP2) on the other side of my computer and everything is great. My question is once I hook my mbp up to an external display and external keyboard (and mouse) will I be able to reboot it in windows and have everything work (the external display, keyboard, and mouse)?
I searched somewhat through teh forums and couldn't find anything, but it is highly likely that I missed if this question has already been answered, so sorry about that.
Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

If your external display, keyboard, and mouse are all Apple products, then you should be okay, as you would have installed all of the necessary drivers when configuring Boot Camp on your Windows XP partition. Check the Boot Camp installation guide for more information.
If your external display, keyboard, and mouse are of another make, you may have to download the required Windows drivers from the manufacturers' website.
I have had a few different screens work on the XP partition of my MB Pro with no problems.

Mid-2012 MBP with 27" Cinema Display SCREEN GOES BLACK WHEN USING USB PERIPHERALS IN DOCK

I haven't been able to find any straightforward answer as to why this is happening and it's becoming one of the most infuriating things in my life, impeding my workflow and costing me unmeasurable time in waiting, rebooting, screwing with cables, etc.
I use my MBP as a DAW for multitracking live audio events to ProTools through a digital console where I work. Here's my gear list that I use every day:
Mid-2012 MBP - Yosemite, 8GB, i7 quad 2.5, mechanical hd
HengeDocks dock for my exact model machine - has set-screw jacks for CinemaDisplay power, Tbolt, FW800, USB, USB, SDcard, headphones, etc
USB wired keyboard
Anker 1x4 USB3.0 hub - I have a TimeMachine 1TB drive, 3TB project backup drive, audio interface and MIDI I/O or PT iLok, depending what I'm working on
Magic Mouse (BlueTooth)
Here's what's happening:
SCENARIO 1 - I insert the CinemaDisplay (cD) power connector and TBolt plugs into the dock, tighten the set screws, close the lid of my MBP (already logged into Yosemite & linked with MagicMouse [mM]) and stick the MBP into the dock... everything comes up on the cD and I can go about my day. At this point, I can plug the USB hub into the back of the cD and the system sees the hub & all peripherals listed just fine.
SCENARIO 2 - Install cD powercon, TBolt connector, USB3 hub, USB keyboard into the dock, close the lid on MBP (again, logged in), insert into dock... cD comes up, looks great for about 15 seconds then goes completely blank. No response from key presses, mouse clicks, threats with a hammer, etc. Then, of course, I have to yank the MBP out of the dock, which hard-disconnects the external drives (backup and TimeMachine... good for them, right?) and causes the MBP to flake, thinking it's still in the dock, then not, then logging me out & requiring a password (not a big deal- I deal with copyrighted stuff, so passwords aren't the issue).
***EVEN IF I DO NOT PLUG THE USB3 HUB INTO THE HENGE DOCK, THE cD STILL GOES BLANK AFTER 15 SEC... IT ONLY SEEMS TO LIKE THE TBOLT AND POWER... NO OTHER PERIPHERALS (fw800, USB, etc)***
It seems like the MBP freaks out when the lid is closed and there are USB/FW peripherals plugged in while using a secondary TBolt display as the main output... seems stupid... if I need a closed-lid dock, the MBP shouldn't care what I have plugged in while the lid is closed. I had the same issues with Mountain Lion & Mavericks and now it's being repeated with Yosemite.
My goal in this exercise is simply to free up the USB jacks on the back of the cD for two reasons - #1) from time to time, I have extra things to plug in and I don't want some massive USB 1x8 hub on my desk... looks stupid; #2) the bottleneck created by plugging in the hub to the back of the cD (another hub via TBolt) almost triples the time required to back up/copy files. I move files from system drive to backup drive & back VERY often due to the nature of my job... speeding up this process would greatly improve my efficiency in the matter. Why would Henge create a dock with all the jacks on it to allow someone to plug into a cD that won't frickin work with said cD? Every other dock I've found makes the user stick the MBP on a slanted, goofy-looking stand and have the lid open or something dumb like that... what I have is the setup I need... just need the USB stuff to work while lid is closed and everything from powercon & cD to USB3 hubs will work without making the cD freak out.
Any ideas out there?

Have now taken the 27" display into the repair shop and after 24 hrs got the phone call - "appears to be nothing wrong with it, will check again on Tuesday and let you know".
I can't seem to find anything on the net describing a similar problem. Everything is working fine right now with the Mac Pro connected to the older 20 inch Cinema Display. In fact, everything seems to be working about a second faster.
I was told by the local retailer that Apple no longer makes the 27 inch LED Cinema Display product and the new display, the "Thunderbolt" will not work with my 13 month old Mac Pro.
***??? In 20 years of owning Mac equipment, this is my first major "uh-oh".

Some sound from MBP others from Cinema Display

I have a MBP connected to a 24" Cinema Display and use with the lid closed.
While I have the Sound Preference set to Cinema Display, some sounds, new Mail for example, comes from the MBP speakers not the Cinema Display.
Is there a way to have all sounds, including such alerts, be played through the Cinema Display speakers.

In the Sound pane of System Preferences, click the Sound Effects tab and opt to have sound effects played "through the selected output device" instead of through the internal speakers.

MBP 15' 2011 Mini display port to LED monitor/TV resolution issue

I have just bought a Mini Display - VGA adaptor which I am plugging to a Samsung 23' LED monitor via a VGA/DVI adaptor. I manage to get a clone view but unfortunately, the maximum resolution offered is 1650x1050 when my Samsung LED monitor has resolution of 1920x1080. Therefore, part of the screen remains black.
... also, when I plug the Mini display port to VGA to my Philips 47' VGA port, I got a message that there must be a problem with the connection and again, maximum resolution offered if 1440x10.. and therefore 20% of my TV screen space remains black.
At last, when I launch Windows7 via bootcamp, this is even wost : when I select the max resolution (1440x10..), the pictures remains freezed on my TV and I can't even move the mouse (while the mouse is moving on the MBP screen...). Only coming back to a very small resolution 800x600 or so will enable me to get control of the win7 desktop on my TV...

If you are using the monitor in Mirrored mode, its resolution setting will always be exactly the same as that of the built-in display. I presume you have the high-res 15" MBP display, with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. If that's true, I suspect your monitor is indeed in Mirrored mode, and that's why you can't set the monitor to its native 1920 x 1080 resolution. If you press Command+F1 to toggle the mnitor into Extended Desktop mode, you'll be able to set its resolution independently of the built-in display. Or if you use only the external monitor, with the MBP display closed, you'll be able to set the monitor's resolution to whatever it supports.

Stacking one video adapter on top of another is usually a recipe for trouble. It's always best to keep things as simple as possible. Use one adapter that gets you from mini-Displayport to whatever input you want to use on the TV or monitor.

What cable is needed to connect a MBP to an external Display?

I've been browsing Apple Store for cables to connect my MBP to my Sony HDTV, which both has HDMI input and a VGA input, I'm very confused about what to choose. I don't want to buy something that I won't be able to use.

You want the MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. If you have a Thunderbolt port, the adapter plugs into that as well.

Late 2010 MBP WIll No Longer Display 1080p for External Monitor

I currently use my 15" 2010 MacBook Pro with an external monitor via an HDMI cable using the Moshi HDMI miniport adapter. Recently when I connect the monitor (I've also tested on a different HDTV and have had the same issue) it recognizes a signal but all it displays is black. Only when I change the signal to 1080i do I get a picture (a poor quality picture). Is there any fix for this? At this point I'm thinking that it's either the adapter or the MBP's hardware that is messed up. I have been using this HDMI adapter without issue since the summer.

2010 MBP 13" and External Display

I have just purchased a new 2010, 13.3"MBP, 2,4GHz, C2D, 4GB RAM, 250GB Drive. Works well on/off power, after sleep, etc. No issues as at all. I plugged in an external HP1908w using an Apple Mini Display Port adapter [VGA]. I can use the system [plugged in] for about 20 minutes or so, then it just goes blank. The MBP goes black, and the external goes to a weird beige/pinkish screen.
I can't wake the system, or anything. I even tried unplugging the monitor, thinking it was a that. I plugged in the adapter only, no monitor, to see if it was that, and it works fine. No problems. I've run all the software updates, and everything. The only difference I see is that the resolution on the MBP is 1280x800, and the external goes to 1440x900. Other than that, I can't see what could be causing it? I've repaired permissions, did the PRAM, all that stuff...HELP!!!!

When I disconnect my MBP from my Thunderbolt display and reconnect, arrangement resets.

I have a MBP Retina and a 27" Thunderbolt display. When I disconnect from the Thunderbolt display and then reconnect, my arrangement is reset and I have to set it again. This has been happening for the last day.
I am on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite and I just updated the Thunderbolt firmware yesterday.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, there seems to be a bug in iOS 8 or iTunes 12.1.1 that cause this problem and I have not seen a solution
