my mbp is over 70c I installed SMcFanControl and the fan is ruynning about 3,500rpm
which the normal temp on MBP 2.53ghz intel core 2 duo???
the status on Istat about the fan say: Fan Exhaust?

I have mixed feelings on that subject. The downside is more wear and tear on the fans and lower battery life. The upside is that, and perhaps more important, it does dissipate more heat.
I simply take the position that the Apple engineers know what they are dealing with and have designed the cooling system such that additional modifications are not necessary. However I have on occasions placed my MBP on large aluminum plates to act as large heat sinks when using the MBP for lengthy periods of time where much heat is generated, such as watching video.
General rule: If you can keep it cooler, so much the better.

If you have the technical expertise the answer is a qualified yes. Qualified because I don't know what consequential issues need to be faced, eg current draw, temperature control. Faster processors usually generate more heat I understand.
If there is anybody reading this who is familiar with the factors involved in producing the logic boards for the different offerings of chip speed I would be interested to hear about the engineering aspects of this proposal.

try a two finger drag on the trackpad holding the CONTROL key. You may be in a zoom mode.
Also check the settings in System Preferences>Displays>Display.

Upgrading 2006 MBP Intel Core Duo to SSD?

My MBP is starting to become depressingly slow. After some research, it appears I'm maxed out at 2GB of memory!    I was wondering if anyone has any experience upgrading the hard drive to a SSD in the same model as mine? Would I notice a huge difference?
I want to install Lion, but am very nervous it will bring my computer to an unusable creep as I've heard from others.

There is a common misconception that computers slow down over time. This is just not the case. There is no reason for your computer to run slower today than the day you bought it. There is usually something which causes your system to become slow. Things like low hard drive space and perhaps applications running in the background that you weren't aware of can impact speed. A failing hard drive can also cause problems.
As you currently have a 5400RPM 120GB hard drive, you will see a significant change in the amount of time it takes applications to launch with an SSD. Keep in mind, an SSD is only replacing your hard drive, so it is only increasing the speed of loading data from your drive. It won't speed up your applications (except, again, the drive access time for applications that may rely heavily on disk use). As you only have 2GB of RAM, your system likely pages data to your hard drive fairly often. This is when your RAM is "full" and it dumps some of the data to your hard drive so it can load more into the RAM. When you have a low amount of RAM to start with, this happens more often. As an SSD is somewhat faster, this becomes less noticeable.
Instructions for replacing your drive may be found in your user's manual. You should avoid going with SATA 6GB (aka SATA III). While they will work, the SATA speed on your system is SATA 1.5GB. Even if you get a SATA 6GB drive, it will only run at 1.5GB... so there's no sense in paying for the extra speed. You probably won't be able to find a SATA 1.5GB drive... but a SATA 3.0GB (SATA II) drive will be less expensive than a 6GB drive and it will perform just as well on your system. The drive in your system now doesn't come close to saturating the bandwidth of your SATA 1.5GB controller. So, even with the older SATA 1.5GB controller, you will still see a significant boost in speed with an SSD.
Having said all that... basically, yes... an SSD will make your system noticibly faster, but it will not boost processing speeds for your applications.

I use wireless to connect to the Internet and everything works fine when I sign on. After being on line for awhile and my remaining battery power at about 60%, I lose connectivity. I turn off Airport, restart it, and I am asked for my secure password. I enter the password but cannot reconnect. So, I shut down the computer for 5 to 10 minutes, restart, and everything works great again.
Has anyone experienced this behavior and do you have any suggestions as to what is causing the problem.

I have an older MBP that I purchased in 2006. I'd like to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Can this machine take that OS? Intel Core Duo running 10.6.8

The issue is, I teach photography and just downloaded Lightroom 4.
Well, LR4 won't run on the older OS. So, before I try to download Mountain Lion, I need to know if it will work on this computer or is it simply too old.

OS X Lion and Mountain Lion are 64-bit operating systems, and the Intel Core Duo is a 32-bit processor, so you can't use Lion and Mountain Lion on your computer. Mac OS X Snow Leopard is the most recent version for your computer.
As I can see, you are running Mac OS X Leopard, so buy Snow Leopard. Then, make a backup of your data, insert the DVD and upgrade OS X. When the upgrade finishes, open  > Software Update to update to the most recent version, so you will be using 10.6.8

Why the MBP Intel Core Duo left out of the Lion Upgrade?

I was looking forward to the upgrade but today i found out that my MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo) from 2007 was left out of the Lion Upgrade list. Why? is it because it's a 32bit CPU?

These times do not include installation time, which on a MacBook Pro 3,1 15" installing on a Firewire 800 Newertech Voyager with WD10ACS-322J80 drive, 10.6.7, took 1 hour and a half to complete the installation from double clicking the install command to the registration screen. The installer just before it starts has in its package contents an InstallESD.dmg file a DVD burnable image to install on additional computers in the home without downloading over again. My Imac 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo keeps powering off

Hi all,
I have a 20inch 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo (Imac 4.1), Over the last few weeks the Mac would just power off on the odd occasion when using Apeture, I put this down to being the just overworked for processing picture. This seems to have been getting worse and kept occurring more and more often. Light Internet browsing was fine..
I decided after some time to replace the 2gb memory i had to see if that would fix the issue, this seemed to work for a few days then the same issues returned.
I now seeing this issue occured just by opening Safari and decided to rebuild the Imac, I completed the Snowleopard install and all seemed ok for a day then it re-occurred again and seemed to be worse, I then removed the 2gb memory and just kept with the 512mb as when bought... Still it keeps powering off. I have moved to different power sockets and still see the same issues.
Please note in order to power the Imac backup up I have to leave the power out for about 20-30 minutes, If i leave the power plugged in it never boots backup up.
I now decided to even revert back to Lion OS, but it just powers off during the install...
I thinking it sounds like a Power supply issue but would like confirmation before I take it to a repair shop..

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
You are now in a perfect position to do a

Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.

Your tems are fine, nothing at all to worry about. One thing you can do is shut down the computer, remove the RAM plate cover on the bottom and vacuum out the air intake. As for the spinning beach balls that isn't a freeze it means a process is busy. You can run Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and when you begin getting SBBOD look in AM and see if you see any processes using a large %CPU and also click the System Memory tab and look to see how much FREE RAM is available at that point in time. As a general rule of thumb OS X likes to have 500MB or more of FREE RAM, if you see it's at or below 500MB then a RAM upgrade is needed or you need to reduce the amount of open windows. Here's something to consider. I see you have 1G RAM. That works well enough for Tiger 10.4. However, I think Leopard or Snow Leopard will be happier if you increase the RAM.
Your MBP can handle up to 2G of RAM. It has two RAM slots'In your case, there would be one 512MB module in each slot. You could replace one 512MB module with a 1G module and have a total over 1.5G. That would be a big help. Or replace both. If you are in the US, RAM is not expensive (see: 2.0GB Upgrade Kit (1.0GB Modules x 2 Matched) for US$33), and the RAM is easily installed even by the most novice user.

I soon need to start preparing an image for the next school year since we are soon going to start moving into a completely new campus which images will need to be ready for lab imaging over the summer and the sooner I can have a lab image ready to be tested the better, but my question is......
If I create an Intel image on a "Intel Core Duo Processor " which we have currently, to then create this image and then push out two two complete brand new labs of what will be "Intel Core 2 Duo Processors"
I know in the past I have created images on the highest PowerPC computer (G5) and had the image on G3's, G4's, G5's etc. an work. I'm not sure if the difference in the processor will require the image to be made on the very same computer or not. If so, we will need to purchase one.
Anyways..... just wondering if someone has already tested this or played around with it?

The build version on the Core Duo models is not the same as the build version on the Core 2 Duo models. These individual builds are customized for their respective hardware. The only version of OS X that will be common for all Intel models will be a public build version that supercedes both custom builds.
The extant builds are here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303315. However, the table does not include the latest Core 2 Duo MBP.
If you upgrade all Intel Macs to 10.4.8 then an image of that version of OS X should be common to all Intel Macs.

I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system. If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.
