MBP 2010 Intel GPU graphics glitches.
I've noticed that occasionally when my new Macbook Pro switches from the nVidia discrete GPU back to the integrated Intel GPU (tracked by the gfxCardStatus app), the LCD display becomes corrupted, I could best describe it as "sparkly" pixels in visible bands, and occasional wobbling of pixels.
I'm unable to take a screenshot with Grab, which leads me to believe this is a problem between the GPU and the display itself, not with the memory or GPU.

I am (and a few others are, too, it would seem) having the same issue. The integrated GPU corrupts everything, but the nVidia works great. The one problem is I run on battery the majority of the time, so I need to maximize my battery life.
I've been switching between the two by unchecking the "automatic graphics switching" option under "Energy Saver" in the preferences. If it's unchecked, you automatically use nVidia. Otherwise your computer will switch to the integrated GPU whenever it's not doing anything graphics intensive
Edit:
Also, mine seems to have begun occurring after the most recent software update that was offered.

Intel gpu graphic card dose over heat ?
i have a really bad experience with hp pavilion Dv6, i have many problems with GPU and overheating in the end the GPU corrupted and now i have to buy and replace new motherboard but the only mother board available now is the one with INTEL Graphic card not ATI , my question is if i replace the motherboard, does i going to suffer from the overheating problem again ?? is it better to replace my motherboard with the one that has intel GPU since that may reduce the overall temperature ??
note: my laptop is out off warranty. The Intel integrated video will definitely run cooler than the ATI video model. The graphics performance will be quite a bit lower, but the Intel is good enough for anything except gaming and CAD and other intense graphics stuff.

late 2011 MBP. Installed Yosemete a month ago. Start to get wifi and graphic problems a few days ago! then frozen and crashed from time to time. Now it can only start into progress bar screen and keeps on power cycling itself. Very disappointed and frustrated. I have read many threads of graphic glitch and hardware failure with Yosemete. I am here to find a fix. Any idea? Cannot imagine Apple keeps silent on this and sheds off their responsibility.

MBP 2010 graphic problem not registered by Apple
So, this is an ooooooold problem that already has many threads in this board.
Summary:
Graphic glitches randomly happening on several applications such as browsers, iTunes, XCode,...
It happens on an specific model (MBP 2010 with nVidia graphics).
It supposedly only affects OS X Lion, not on Snow Leopard.
I've known on cases on others computers such as iMacs or MacMini so it may be related to an specific nVidia graphic card.
The thing is that, not only it has not been fixed by any software update, but it's not registered by Apple as I have called support and they don't think it's a generic problem. Solutions vary from, resetting SMC and PRAM and reinstalling Lion from scratch, but none of them work. Some people were able to have their mpb logic boards replaced but they never came back to tell if it fixed the problem or not.
Some threads of this same issue are:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/17369687#17369687
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3291270?start=0&tstart=0
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3304494?start=30&tstart=2
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3379398?start=0&tstart=0
But there are far more of these just in this boards.
I have lived with this problem all this time but it's frustrating when you are doing a demonstration to a customer, it happens and only when you explain that you've explained that you've been living with it for so long with a such expensive laptop you know how stupid you've been.
It's sad that Apple is unaware of this and they just give you useless solutions. You feel as if you were trying to scam them or something, and the only choice is to send them your laptop (if you are lucky enough to have it under warranty), be without your computer for a while and cross your fingers that they are able to reproduce the problem or they are able to fix it (because they could replace the logic board and still have the problem).
I'd like to see Apple trying to find a fix for this, if it's a software problem then perfect. If it's hardware related then at least you know it's going to get fixed by sending it to technical support...
Sorry for the wall of text and any grammar mistake you may find as I'm not native english.Well, the description "computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video on the built-in display" does not match with the exactly same problem (as shown in the screenshots) that users report.
I have plenty of these screenshots myself:
Taking the macbook to the service is the obvious next step but since it's hard to reproduce you take the risk of have your macbook returned with the same problem. It's a problem for me to stay away of my laptop 1-2 weeks and I'd like to know that it's going to be fixed for sure.
It's also not happening in Snow Leopard, which leads to think it's a driver's related problem more... -
Graphic Glitch - MacBook Pro, 15-inch, mid 2010
Hey everyone,
I have a MBP 15" mid 2010
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
HDD1 OCZ-VERTEX2 SSD 120GB
HHD2 (replacing optical drive) Seagate Momentus 2.5 inch XT ST95005620AS 500GB
I have a graphical glitch quite often, which consists of some on screen corruption that lasts for a few milliseconds - enough for me to see it, but rarely enough for me to actually take a screenshot of it. Last week I managed to finally take a screenshot of it, which is great, as I can finally show that I'm not crazy. Please see below.
I pretty much assume it will be a problem with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (which is usually in use all the time, since I use an external screen in addition to my mbp 15" one).
Now, because this is not a crash event I doubt there'll be any log about it (but I'm all ears).
Regarding it's consistency and frequency it's very hard to say... it does happen a lot throughout the day. I have tried not running programmes that I feel interact with graphics a lot (F.lux and gfxCardStatus) but to no avail.
Anyone has any experience with this or some advice for me?
Thanks!Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,

Macbook pro (2010) having graphical glitches after Mavericks update
What is your take?
graphical glitches appear and disappear randomly. Didn't have them before Mavericks update!
Thanks a lot for the help15” MBP Mid 2010 models have been recalled for GPU issues. See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5681.
Official Apple statement: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of this Knowledge Base article and go to an Apple store or Apple Authorizes Service Provider with your machine and the documentation.
Genius reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ .
or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country
If it has been three years since your date of purchase then you are past the date covered by the recall but sometimes they honor it anyway.

MBP 2010, Random Reboots, GPU Panic
As of today, my 15" 2010 Macbook Pro has randomly rebooted twice within an hour. I'm including the Panic Report that was displayed after the computer rebooted.
I'm running OS X 10.10.2, connected to an external monitor via mini display port to VGA adapter, and I was using these applications when the reboots occurred:
- firefox
- vlc
- skype
- finder
My questions are: What's causing the problem? and what should I do to prevent this from ever happening again?

Graphics glitching... Logic X or GPU?
I have the new Mac Pro Late 2013, 8-core, with D300 graphics cards. 64GB RAM.
I've been having lots of UI lag using Logic Pro (Logic always has issues though..), but I've also had crazy graphics glitching. It very much looks like a failing graphics card.
Thing is, I took the computer into the Genius Bar, they tested it for 2 weeks, said my graphics card wasn't the issue and that it's my memory. I replaced the memory (it's from OWC), and ran MemTest for four days. No errors.
Graphics glitching still happening though. Could Apple have been wrong about my GPU?
Here's a video of the glitching: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g3t6h0au4cw6g03/LogicGraphicsArtifacts3.mov?dl=0Run the Apple Hardware test and see if it flags the graphics card.

That entry from your log certainly indicates that there is some sort of issue with the card. If it is the card you can take it in for service and have the technician diagnose the unit to confirm it is the card and then have it replaced. -

Intel HD graphics on new MBP -- choppy GUI ?
Hi!
GUI animation on new MBP 15" with Intel HD graphics seems a little bit choppy (Dock magnification, Expose and so on)... It's not too noticable and some people might not even notice it at all.
I used to have a previous MBP 15" with Nvidia graphics and it was much much smoother.
Any ideas on updated video driver or some hidden settings? I remeber it was the same on early MacBook Air's and there was an option to do some tweaking with Quartz enabling or something... but it doesnt work now.
NickSame thing here... That is normal, as Intel does pretty crappy job with GFX anyway.
I had 2.4 GHz unibody MBP with 9400M + 9600M GT and the integrated GFX card was better than the current Intel one on 2.53 i5 MBP. Scrolling sometimes is also choppy. You'll just have to live with it, just like the rest of us. :/
P.S. This all is Intel's fault, as they do not allow any integrated GFX on their platforms who have i3/i5/i7 CPUs, hence the dispute between Intel and nVidia. Apple and we (consumers) are damned to sub-standard products because of it. -
MBP 13-inch with Intel HD Graphics 3000 support Video Decode Acceleration?
Anyone know yet if the Intel HD Graphics 3000 chipset in the new MBP 13-inch supports the Apple Video Decode Acceleration Framework? I'm hoping so as Flash needs it for hardware acceleration--anything to make that dog work better.

DarenI'd also like to know the answer to this question...

Late 2007 MBP graphics glitch with files/folder in finder
After the 10.5.6 update everything worked smoothly. Since a restart when moving files and folders within the finder now I have a graphical glitch. The file/folder being moved appears randomly cut, (both text and icon are missing a random squarish chunk of the file/folder image when dropped to another location anywhere in the finder). There is also more than usual delay. I am not having this occur with item on the desktop. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?
Then there's a conflict or corruption in the original account, usually amongst the various preference files. How badly do you want fix this problem? Here's what's required to resolve the conflict/corruption (sorry I have no idea which preference file (plist) might be mucked up, but you can do a cursory check with Preferential Treatment at http://www.jonn8.com/html/pt.html
While logged into the newly created admin account, backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.
