MBP 2010 with HDTV: Aliasing

Hey there,
I'd love to use my MBP with my 1080p HDTV. I tried different setups (MiniDisplay -> DVI, -> HDMI) but I must always face the same problem: aliasing
It's not just the "text smoothing" issue, the entire screen seems grainy. It looks really nasty.
I also tried different monitors (Toshiba, Sony etc.) as well as my old Macbook. Always the same.
Is there a fix for this?

Have you tried to switch the 8 GB models between the banks as well (not just test both on the same bank)? Do you hear beeps upon start up with both 8 GB modules installed? If so, describe.
See this information from everymac.com on your machine. 16 GB is not officially supported by Apple:
*Originally, both the official and actual maximum RAM was 8 GB. However, as confirmed by site sponsor OWC, if running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, updated with the latest EFI, and equipped with proper specification memory modules, this model can support up to 16 GB of RAM.

  • Flickering screen on 13" MBP 2010 with NVIDIA GeForce 320M

Did anyone experience display issues with his / her 13" MacBook Pro (2010) with NVIDIA GeForce 320M? I've been using mine for several weeks and every now and then, the display starts flickering and I have no clue why. Unfortunately, the problem is not easily reproducible and the hardware test from the shipped DVD doesn't report any problem.

I did no longer experience the issue unfortunately / fortunately. No idea what was causing it.
My MacBook Pro is now at Gravis for repair because the left command key keeps popping out. According to the technician there the key itself is broken and he doubts that I can have it repaired under warranty. Questionable quality if keys break during normal usage. It's also the first keyboard in my life that breaks and I really don't hammer on the keys. Maybe I will end up ordering a replacement key on eBay.

  • MBP 2010 graphic problem not registered by Apple

So, this is an ooooooold problem that already has many threads in this board.
    Summary:
Graphic glitches randomly happening on several applications such as browsers, iTunes, XCode,...
It happens on an specific model (MBP 2010 with nVidia graphics).
It supposedly only affects OS X Lion, not on Snow Leopard.
I've known on cases on others computers such as iMacs or MacMini so it may be related to an specific nVidia graphic card.
The thing is that, not only it has not been fixed by any software update, but it's not registered by Apple as I have called support and they don't think it's a generic problem. Solutions vary from, resetting SMC and PRAM and reinstalling Lion from scratch, but none of them work. Some people were able to have their mpb logic boards replaced but they never came back to tell if it fixed the problem or not.
Some threads of this same issue are:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17369687#17369687
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3291270?start=0&tstart=0
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3304494?start=30&tstart=2
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3379398?start=0&tstart=0
But there are far more of these just in this boards.
I have lived with this problem all this time but it's frustrating when you are doing a demonstration to a customer, it happens and only when you explain that you've explained that you've been living with it for so long with a such expensive laptop you know how stupid you've been.
It's sad that Apple is unaware of this and they just give you useless solutions. You feel as if you were trying to scam them or something, and the only choice is to send them your laptop (if you are lucky enough to have it under warranty), be without your computer for a while and cross your fingers that they are able to reproduce the problem or they are able to fix it (because they could replace the logic board and still have the problem).
I'd like to see Apple trying to find a fix for this, if it's a software problem then perfect. If it's hardware related then at least you know it's going to get fixed by sending it to technical support...
Sorry for the wall of text and any grammar mistake you may find as I'm not native english.

Well, the description "computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video on the built-in display" does not match with the exactly same problem (as shown in the screenshots) that users report.
I have plenty of these screenshots myself:
Taking the macbook to the service is the obvious next step but since it's hard to reproduce you take the risk of have your macbook returned with the same problem. It's a problem for me to stay away of my laptop 1-2 weeks and I'd like to know that it's going to be fixed for sure.
It's also not happening in Snow Leopard, which leads to think it's a driver's related problem more...

  • MBP Connected to HDTV Problem

Last night I connected my MBP to my HDTV (37" Toshiba Regza)and was really impressed with the movie quality with iTunes. Anyway, after I disconnected the laptop I noticed the picture on my HDTV was really stretched (even in native format). I had to completely reset my TV to fix the problem. Did my MBP adjust the aspect on my TV? I tried every which way through the TV to adjust tha aspect but I could not fix the problem. Now, the TV stations are okay but the Guide function on my HD tuner looks out of whack (Has vertical borders).
    Any thoughts?

Never heard of such a thing before but I guess that doesn't mean it didn't happen this time. There is really no way for a Mac to send control signals to a display, except maybe via something called DDCci which I don't think the Mac supports. And even if it did, I'd be surprised if your Regaza responded to DDCci control signals. You might want to check your Toshiba's manual to see if there is any mention of it.

  • MBP 2010. Logic board ?

I just dropped off my MBP 2010. They said it was a logic board.
Symptoms : Fan running high. Beach ball , jerky cursor, very slow response time
I zapped the PRAM about a month ago. When some of the symptoms started. It worked for a while ...
Could the new OS download have anything to do with this? I have been using Apples since 1996 and hope Apple will rectify this issue if there is a fault in the manufacturing side or software .
No Appplecare cost 280 flat fee...

You got an excellent price - I try to let as many people that I can know of Apple's flat-rate repair policy. They could have been unscrupulous and charge you nearly $800.
I doubt that any software download could have caused logic board failure - I've never heard of it occurring. Faulty logic boards just turn up from time to time. Sometimes the symptoms can go unnoticed for years, sometimes they just fail at any given moment. Thank goodness, it's not  pandemic around the Mac community.
Once you get your logic board replaced, I think that you'll be pleased. And you did get a great deal on it.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Help deciding between 13.3 MBP 2010 2.66 GHz C2D vs 13.3 MBP 2011 2.3GHz i5

Here is the deal and I hope I can get a quick response:
    * I am deciding between the MBP 13.3 2010 2.66 GHz vs MBP 2011 2.3 GHz i5.
    What I need:
    * Most intensive stuff would be using photoshop and or primier once in a while.
What I like about the new MBP 2011:
    * i5 outperforms C2D when it comes to video encoding, filter processing, etc.
What really concerns me about MBP 2011:
    * Persistent heating issue complains.
    * 320M being better than HD 3000 for image processing/editing.
While performace matters, so does the longevetiy of the laptop. With so many heating issues, will MBP 2011 be a good buy, so should I stick with the tested and proven MBP 2010?
    Thank you.

    Hi tjk,
Thanks for your input. The price is not really that much of a factor since a refurb 2010 model is almost the same price as the new 13.3 i5 MBP. I agree that performance generates heat, but lots of discussion here has been on consistent kicking in of fans in the newer model which generally seems to be running hot even with less intensive usage. Anyone with the newer model and lion can shine some light on if the issue has been fixed with the newer updates? Thanks!

I bought 8gb DDR3 1066 mhz to install on my MBP 2010 and it beeps three times during boot and wont boot. I looked at other threads and it seems like no one has found an answer. It looks brand new with no obious problems.

Macs can be very fussy about RAM... It is Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

  • MBP 2010 Sleep Problems

    Hi, everyone,
My mother-in-law has a MBP 2010 i7 and seems to have intermittent sleep issues. Twice now, the computer has fallen asleep with lid open and doesn't seem to wake, forcing her to power off (via button) and turn everything back on.
So, it seems that it always sleeps, but doesn't always wake.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? The end of her warranty is approaching and she is concerned that there may be something faulty with her MBP.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance.

If she travels a lot, that can happen from a build-up of old networks; by default, the computer saves info on every network it's joined.
    1) Open System Preferences > Network
    2) Select "Airport" then click "Advanced."
    3) The next window should open with an "Airport" tab active. If not, click it. Looks like this:
    4) If you have accumulated a lot of networks in your travels that you won't need again, delete them from the "preferred networks" field. I also unchecked "remember networks" on mine

  • MBP 2010 had Mobo replaced - Now keyboard lights not working?!?!

    Hi,
I have just picked my MBP 2010 back up from the apple store, after it having its main logic board replaced. After having it back home for a few hours, I have only just noticed that the keyboard back lights are no longer functioning. By turning the brightness up with the f6 key, it brings up the HUD which shows the brightness bar going up, but the lights are still off.
I have tried to go into the settings and turn off the option that says automatically illuminate keyboard in low light to see if that fixed the issue, but no success. I have also installed lab tick, but this still did not get the backlight functioning.
The last thing I tried was a SMC reset. I performed this twice but to no avail.
I have tried to search the forums for alternative reasons as to why they would not be working, but cant find anything.
Can anyone advise me as to what my next step should be? I would like to try to fix this myself rather than take it back to the apple store, as it is about an hours drive away (last resort). I have read that there is a cable that connects the keyboard backlight, and this could become loose during maintenance. Is this easy to find / check ?
    Thanks

Just incase people have the same issue down the line, I managed to fix this problem myself within 5 minutes.
I found a guide on ifixit.com for my model of macbook and then looked at the logic board replacement section (as this is what repair it had been to apple for).
I found the section regarding the power ribbon for the keyboard lights, and after taking my mac apart, I realised that they had not connected the ribbon, and it was still left unattached under one of the fans.
Carefully connecting this back and then putting the fan back solved the problem. So a simple 5 minute job has saved me a long trip back to see apple.
Thanks for your help anyway guys!

  • Monitor to connect to MBP 2010? HELP PLEASE!

I have a 15' MBP 2010. I use it for work all day. It's becoming annoying because it's too small for me and I need a larger monitor to connect to it. Preferably a 24inch monitor.
So I purchased a 24inch monitor from Amazon.ca, but the monitor doesn't display text all the well. It's not super crisp and doesn't go very bright. Here's the one I bought: http://www.amazon.ca/Viewsonic-VX245...bs_677246011_4 (I have played around with it and still can't get the text to become crisp, images are fine, just the text *****)
So I'm going to return that one and get another 24inch from Amazon.ca (has to be from Amazon.ca since I have a gift card for them). I would like to keep the price around $200-$250 or so.
What 24inch LED monitor do you guys suggest I get from Amazon.ca to hook up to my MBP?
Some other important questions on my mind:
    - Is it best to connect by mini display port to HDMI or mini display port to DVI?
    - What brand is best?
    - Should I go with a IPS panel?
    What I need:
    - ability to make the screen very bright, so easy on eyes during day light
    - crisp text, easy to read for my work all day
Here are the best selling monitors on Amazon:
Here are the monitors I've been looking at:

I really apppreciate your help in advance

The goal is to synchronize an excel sheet using Microsoft Excel 2010 with Sharepoint 3.0. We have already installed an add-in (Excel 2007 Add-in: Synchronizing Tables with SharePoint Lists) that was supposed

SharePoint 2010 has no supportability statement for Server 2012 R2.  I would not use it until Microsoft releases a supportability statement.
Even it  has no supportability for server 2012, but sharepoint 2010 running fine in my server 2012 test environment

You indicated you were using 2012 R2.  SharePoint 2010 supports Server 2012 (non-R2) with SP2 media, but has no supportability statement for Server 2012 R2.

  • Can I run adobe master collection in a windows partition on a basic mbp 13" with only the intel chipset?

can I run adobe master collection in a windows partition on a basic mbp 13" with only the intel chipset?
I want to install 16 gb ram but I don't think I can change the lack of video card. I wanted this basic machine because it has fairly long battery life. I don't need or want retina at this time. My model is the mid 2012 model. I am running the adobe collection for mac, I want to run the windows versions. Is it possible? What is the most ram I could access using something like fusion 5, assuming I could get fusion 5 to work? would it refuse to run because of the intel chipset and lack of video card?
If I'm wrong and there is a way to add a video card to this model, could some version of fusion and windows 7 access more than 2 gb operating ram?
What  cost would I be incurring, and would it be cheaper to buy a windows laptop with more ram than I could access via a virtual machine?
I want to work on a client's work in the windows versions of the creative suite, with occasional usage of after effects for windows, and to use some web plug-ins only available in windows versions, and to try some windows-only video and audio software.
thanks for any suggestions. While many people have told me I can run everything on my macbook, I am concerned about what I think is a limited amount of ram that can be accessed over the virtual machine partition softwares, and I don't know if what I want to attempt is actually possible.
My mbp os is 10.8.2 on a 2.5 GHz intel core i5 4 gb 1600MHz DDR3 with 500 hard drive. the basic 13" mid 2012 machine.
I'm hoping to install 16 G of opertating ram to allow more adobe programs to run concurrently- just when I am working on the mac side.
also, off track but, for years I have wanted a small  machine that is more easily portable than my 15" machines. I have only had this used machine for a few weeks, but already I have been very satisfied and used it for presentations at clients. I don't want an air because I really want the dvd burner and player. No matter what apple says about wireless, there are decades of legacy work stored on optical discs all over the world, and I don't want to be unable to open something at a client's office because I don't have a dvd drive. Additionally, I have very large files I want to transfer via ethernet or firewire so that the transfer will take less time and be more secure than wifi. I resist apple's trend to make every machine a disposable toy that is viable only a year or so. I have read reviews that label the mbp it a poor value compared to the air. If all you need to do is text and communicate via wifi, many devices will sufice, and an air is certainly the most elegant. But what about the cost of large ssd's and protecting the drive against damage from shock? I want to be able to move this thing around and the small size is much safer inside my padded bag when I sit in narrow airplane seats, crowded trains and other congested spaces. I am much more likely to be able to borrow a large screen in a client's office ( with the use of one of the three adapters I had to buy) than to be able to borrow a dvd drive that has drivers for mac os 10.8.2. I suspect this may be the last generation of machines that have optical drives and ethernet, and that was why I purchased it so that I could continue to do work into the next few years. I am impressed by the retina display, but I need long battery life. And as beautiful as the retina display is, it is even more of a problem when trying to cross platform with the windows world. I wish I could infuence apple to do a trial product flow for a machine designed to work with 80% of the business world that uses windows. How spectacular that would be. With all their expertise and adept hardware design, to create a machine that cross platforms better than a windows machine itself works? Now that would be an accomplishment.  Instead of 8 or 9 percent of the total computer sales, why not aim for a higher percentage? Smart devices will keep moving toward portable computers in power, anyway.

Fusion should work on your machine and if you put 16 GB of RAM in (see http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM), Fusion can access a good portion of that. Also, in a Virtual Machine, the guest OS is presented with Fusion's video card emulation, not what's in hardware on your Mac. Of course, finding Windows 7 now that Win 8 has been released could take some doing and the Win 8 Pro upgrade price is supposed to jump to $200 the end of the month. Add that to the price of Fusion and the extra RAM and you're beginning to get into the realm of low end real PC's.
As to cross platform, I assume you're aware of BootCamp (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461).
