From some days, my MBP 2011 17 inch early start to show Pink lines on display, and total Freeze, this was a expensive machine around 3000 USD, i found a lot of documentation about that... but i can't pay 650 USD for fix that...
What i do, i have remove Battery conector for some minutes... also i remove Ram, reinstall ram and connect battery... now i can work for some hours before crash again... is the glitches on display restart step one... well...   I think apple need take this Subject with more serious... and create a replacement logic board...

  • MBP 2011 Does Not Enter Display Sleep Over DVI with Dell U2410

    Hi, 15" 2011 MacbookPro (8,2) running 10.7.2 Lion
Using the Apple Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter, the Dell U2410 does not enter Display sleep in Energy Saver mode. Instead, the backlight remains on.
If I manually put the MBP to Sleep, the U2410 successfully enters Display sleep.
When using a MonoPrice Mini DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable, the monitor successfully enters Display Sleep. However, the picture signal (no matter what) is dispalyed in YPbPr rather than RGB for some reason. So this thread is in fact 2 problems.
    Any ideas / help?

My late 2007 white MacBook (3,1) running 10.6.8 connected via MiniDVI-to-DVI successfully puts the U2410 to sleep.
So I'm thinking this may be an issue with the MDP/Thunderbolt port on the new 2011 MBP's?

  • MBP 2011 GPU Crash

I have a 2011 MBP that does regular (1-2 times per hour) black screen / reboots and show 'GPU Panic' in the log.
I swapped the HD with another one that also has OSX on it, same thing, so it's clearly not a software issue.
Connecting a HDMI cable will cause the computer to reboot 4-5 times before, if you're lucky, it will boot normally.
Browsing with flash tends to do it too as it uses the nVidia GPU.
So, I was thinking about bringing the computer to the shop as now the 2011 computers with GPU problems are fixed by Apple.
    But...
If I run some GPU benchmark tool, some burn-in tools, etc... it's stable.
I downloaded Apple's hardware diagnostic tool, which the shops use to determine eligibility, and the computer passed without any problems.
but it will crash the moment I connect it to a TV...
Because of this, most likely the store will tell me the computer is fine...
    Has anyone experienced that problem?

If there is nothing else shown on the page other than your verified purchase date and that your limited warranty has expired, then I would guess that it is not covered. Your best bet, just to be sure would be to contact Apple and have them check manually.
The serial number of each machine is unique and can identify when the MacBook Pro was manufactured, which is how Apple decide whether or not your machine is eligible for cover within the extension program as it only covers machines manufactured from and to a certain date.
The symptoms on the repair extension page are as follows:
Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen
No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on
    Computer restarts unexpectedly
The fact that you've described that your MacBook Pro restarts with GPU Panic errors would imply that it is actually experiencing the issue covered by the extension program, so I would contact Apple and find out whether or not it is covered by the extension program.

  • MBP 2011 Early fans issue

Hi, i've recently bought brand new MBP 2011 (early) version, and i wanna know is it ok when fans becoming so noisy when i play the game, or run some huge application. I worried about that this can harm my laptop. thanks.

the fans spin up when the computer is under heavy load, as a result they get quite noisy in order to disapate the heat generated by the Processor and Graphics Card, also these computers generate a vast temperatures that the fans can just about cope with, under load i have seen my 2.2GHz i7 2011 Macbook Pro hit 92-95 degrees Celcius far too warm in my opinion.

  • MBP 13 in Early 2011 Model OS Upgrade Options?

MBP 13 in Early 2011 Model. Currently running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion), but want to upgrade to 10.8 or newer. What is the best option? I've heard Yosemite hasn't worked too well for many users and just want to upgrade to at least 10.8 because many video editing applications require it now. As an added piece of info, I plan to upgrade my RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB.

  • Weird display glitches with C2D MBP Rev B.

    Hi,
I have experienced various display glitches on Leopard. I have a 256Mb ATI X1600. These problems never occured in Tiger. Here is an example:
    http://i3.tinypic.com/6jus228.png
They appear when I wake up from sleep, plug an external monitor or change the resolution.
I thought it was a third party issue. I made a fresh install of leopard... same problem.
I thought it was a video card issue so I launched Half life 2 in boot camp, no glitches.
The only problem similar I found was about a missing ATI RoM Xtender file. The fix didn't work.
Anyone has the same problem ?
So far I think that my MBP is a lemon, Apple replaced a DDRAM stick, the screen, the power cord, the battery and the superdrive.
I'll wait for the 10.5.1 update. If it is not fixed, I'll go to the Apple repair center.

well, I just returned from the Apple Store. They did open a Trouble Ticket for me and gave me a case #. The good news is we both (dude from the genius bar) agree its not a hardware issue so I did not have to send out my Mac. Since the problem is able to be re-produced for me he was able to see what Im talking about.
    manuamador,
are you seeing green static when you open up Photo Booth (or iChat as well) and select the visual effects on the 3rd tab (moon, roller coaster, polka dots...)? This is how I was able to prove the issue 100% of the time. as for the same issue you have (here is a screen shot of mine) http://telcon-solutions.com/apple/Picture1.jpg
and this is what happens when I replicate video issue with photo booth and iChat
    http://telcon-solutions.com/apple/Picture2.jpg
Let me know if this does the same for you. Also, do go into apple and report this so we can hopefully raise a issue and get a fix sooner. The more of these show up, the sooner Apple will pay attention to it. I suspect it has to do with the Radeon X1600 since we both have the same video card.

  • Mini DisplayPort - VGA and MBP 2011 not working

    Hi,
I can't get my 13" mbp 2011 to connect to VGA screens. I've bought a mini DisplayPort to VGA converter (an Apple one, not a no name) and if I connect a display over VGA the screen stays black. My mbp recognizes the display, I can see the display's model, resolution etc but no signal. I've tried multiple screens, none work.
I don't have other converters so I can't test if HDMI screens for example do work.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 2011 13" i7 and am having the same issue when connecting it to my LG TV through the HDMI adapter. However when I connect it to my HP external monitor it works but it's VERY blurry... so blurry that it hurts the eyes to look at it for more than a few mins.
My previous MBP (2010 13") works fine however with both the TV and monitor. I even reconnected it just to make sure and they both work flawlessly.
I only have 14 days total to return this new MBP and 5 of those days are used up so if I can't get this fixed by then I have no choice but to return it and go back to my old MBP.

  • No 1920x1080 output to external monitor from MBP 2011 OSX 10.6.8

    Hi, I have a MBP 2011 running OSX 10.6.8.
I have recently purchased an Asus ML249H Monitor and the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable 10 ft (3 m) MDPHD10FT.
The monitor should display at 1920x1080 natively but does not. The MBP max output resolution is 1600x900 on this screen. Is this a known issue with the MDPHD10FT cable or is it OSX? What it the work around to get 1920x1080.
    Thanks

i had to go into iCal Preferences and delete my account and then put it back in.  Everything is working fine, now.

  • Closing MBP Without Sleep With External Display

    Greetings.
I have just hooked up a Dell 23" flatscreen display to my Macbook Pro. Everything works great... connected it via the DVI cable and it worked immediately.
I'd like to be able to turn on my MBP and use the large display exclusively, meaning I want to be able to close the MBP without it sleeping. I have put my Energy Saver preferences on "Never" for the display and computer itself, but those options do not work.
What is the protocol for closing the MBP after startup so that I may use my display without the whole thing going to sleep?
Oddly, I was able to "trick" the MBP into closing at one point; I shut the clamshell, it fell asleep along with the Dell 23", then I reopened it just slightly to where it would awake again. Then I used the display for a little while and shut the MBP clamshell again and the 23 still worked while the MBP was closed. Not sure how/why it worked, and I have not been able to duplicate it.
The split screen option is neat, as far as like the MBP being on the left and the 23" being on the right, but I don't need it, and my desk is too small anyway.
How can I achieve MBP sleep while it is still powering my big display?
    Thanks,
    C

Ha. Welp, best $8 I ever spent.
I SWWWEEEAAARRR I tried that earlier this afternoon; also I like totally swear I looked up and down the support site too. I knew it would be easy, just not that easy.
    Thanks!

  • Mbp 2011 screen freezes and beeps

My 2011 MBP 13.3 will freeze, displaying short bars across the screen in columns, audio beeps three times in intervals.  I must hold the power button down to reboot.

    Some things you can try:
    1. Try a new user account, create one in System Preferences -> Users and Groups, test to see if the issue still persists in this new user account, this will give us a lot of information. (if the problem is the same or it vanishes, let us know)
    2. Make sure all your software is up-to-date, Apple Logo -> Software update.
    3. Unplug all 3rd party devices, just keep in the necessary, Power, Keyboard + Mouse, no ethernet or external hard drives etc.
    4. Reset the PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    5. Reset the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    6. Boot to the recovery partition (CMD + R on startup until you see a spinning cog with an apple logo, then let go) -> Choose english as the main language -> Choose Disk Utility -> Select your hard drive from the left pane of Disk Utility (NOT Macintosh HD, the one that will look similar to: 1TB ST3200WAJS) -> Select the 'First Aid' tab -> Bottom right of the window it will say 'S.M.A.R.T Status: ________' ... What does it say after smart status?
    7. While still inside the Recovery Partition, select Macintosh HD -> First Aid (tab) -> Verify Disk -> Repair Disk (unless it says the volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK) -> Verify Disk Permissions -> Repair Disk Permissions (if there are differing permissions on the disk)
Let us know if the issue still persists, but make sure you do all of those steps correctly and post back as much information as possible (PRAM takes two chimes at startup, unplug the power cable for 15 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds, turn on... make sure you follow all articles)
    Good Luck!

  • MBP 2011 15 late edition:  missing HD space - hd shows usage to be 237 gb, but if adding up amount used by adding up apps, library, systems and users only 65 gb of use shows up?

MBP 2011 15 late edition:  Missing HD space - HD shows usage to be 237 GB.  Adding up usage by apps, libriary, system and users shows usage to be 67GB. Help

"Hacked" is not my terminology, and I don't believe it's intended to be derogatory. What you describe is a perfectly legitimate reason to alter Hosts.
If your Mac still isn't working as expected after uninstalling Intego and Trend Micro, read on. The necessity to have a reliable backup cannot be overstated, since what you describe may be an indication of impending disk failure.
Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. To learn how to to that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
If your Mac is momentarily unresponsive, consider the following.
Launch the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder. You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu. Select Show Toolbar if it is not already shown.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem.
To do that click the Clear Display button in the Toolbar. All previously displayed log entries will be disappear.
Next: Perform whatever actions cause the Mac to exhibit the slow behavior. If the problem is caused by errors logged by the system, the Console window will show them being recorded in system.log.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply. If hundreds of the same repetitive messages appear, please edit them before posting. There should be no need for more than a few log entries.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

  • 15" late 2011 model with HD display only holds charge for 3hrs...

15" late 2011 model with HD display only holds charge for 3hrs... i was expecting 6-7hrs... what do you suggest?

I would suggest you elaborate on what you were doing for those three hours. You can expect 6-7 hours if you want to sit and just watch your desktop. If you want to use your MBP then depending how intensive the processes you are using will determine how fast your battery gets depleted.

  • Ssd mbp 2011

    Hi,
Bought an OCZ Vector SSD drive for my MBP 8.2 (early 2011). The drive works fine externally on an USB-SATA cable. I formatted it and used CCC to clone the Toshiba HDD. I can boot from the external drive.
However, when I build the drive into the main bay using the SATA connector internally, the MBP doe not recognize the disk!!
When I replace the Toshiba disk, the machine does boot again, so the SATA cable is ok...
    What is wrong??
    Can anybody help??

Both bays, obviously, have 6.0 Gbps SATA connection - but that doesn't  mean that you're going to get 6.0 Gbps negotiated speed.
A lot of people have reported problems, here, with OCZ drives. I'm afraid that the only thing that I can suggest is getting in touch with OCZ - http://www.ocztechnology.com/ - you may want to try the forums first, before contacting tech support.
Not sure what else to tell you - I've a Crucial m4 series SSD and it's just worked since day one...
    Sorry,
    Clinton
