MBP 2011, External Eizo monitor. Will I have issues?

I have read there are alot of issues with the new Macbook Pro 2011 and external screen via Displayport. What kind of issues are there?
Im going to buy an -EIZO FLEXSCAN EV2333WH 23"- monitor for photography/design work, and want it to work flawless via Displayport.
Will it work, maybe someone out there can confirm it?

BEWARE! I just bought new 2011 15" MBP with MiniDisplayPort and tried to connect it to my 30" Dell monitor (vintage 2007) which had worked fine with my 2007 15" MBP (but those were days when MBP had DVI connector).
The monitor can be connected to the 2011 MBP with the MiniDisplayPort-to-DVI but then only produces 1280x800 resolution or lower; while my monitor was used to supporting 1920x1200 or even 2560x1600. The 1280x800 looks horrible on a big screen and would be a waste with an EIZIO.
I have ordered, but not received, an Apple "DisplayPort-to-Dual-DVI" adapter for $99 (wow, that is a rip off!) but have not confirmed it will work. The Apple tech I spoke to said "we don't support nor know anything about supporting Dell monitors" (whereas the Apple sales guy I spoke to *before* buying assured me that the simpler adapter above would be fine with my Dell monitor. Urrrrggghhhhh........
Not sure what I am going to do since I have to have a large external monitor for my work......

  • How do I stream Keynote from my MBP to external TV monitor?

    I have a Rocketfish mini displayport to HDMI adapter going from my MacBookPro my external TV monitor. Under "Input" a picture shows up on "HDMI3", however, I cannot seem to figure out how to display my keynote presentation. Can someone help me? Thank you so much!

    When you say "a picture shows up" what is that picture, is it a blank Mac desktop? If so, you did it correctly and you now have a second monitor work area (an "extended desktop") that is empty...because you haven't moved anything over there yet. Drag your Keynote window to that monitor and it will show up. Or, if you wanted to see the same thing on both monitors, turn on Mirroring (under the Displays menu bar item or the Displays system preference).
    You may want to take advantage of special Keynote features when using two monitors in extended desktop mode (mirroring off). For example, Keynote can display the presentation on the external display for the audience to see, and presenter notes, timer, etc. on the internal display for only you to see. For more info on your options read this:

  • MBP 2011, Screen Brightness in Energy Saver mode issue?

    hi,
    got a new 2011 MBP 17', setup dim in energy saver mode & plugged in an external DVI monitor via Thunderbolt port.  energy mode dims & blanks LCD but the external screen does not.  It does however then turn off and lock when display sleep is reached.
    anyone any ideas if this is just a "feature of the new port" that we need to ask apple about or have i missed something?
    FYI,  energy saver pref screen pops up only on 1 screen.  displays pref pops up on both but currently only the MBP LCD screen has a brightness and auto adj settings.  external screen just has resolutions & refresh rate options.
    thanks,
    Simon.

    Nope - on my wife's MB (i.e. 13" MacBook, unibody/late 2008), there's no 'custom setting' or 'Details' when clicking on the menu bar battery icon. There is a shortcut to the Energy Saver preference pane, but no option to control brightness in that preference pane other than the checkbox I mentioned above. You can set timers for display sleep, etc., of course.
    So, what I see on my MBP, what I see on my wife's MB, and what you're seeing on your MBP seem to be the same. If you have access to a MacBook, check again - if you find the setting your thinking of, post a screenshot...

  • Will I have Issues with Screen if Connected to PC for long periods?

    I picked up a new 80g ipod to replace my old 20g gen 2, and I want to use it at work to play music through my computer. I am concerned about the Do Not Disconnect message with the flashing icon being displayed for 10 hours at a time every day. Am I going to get any characters or images burned on the display? I didn't think LCD's were subject to burning, but seems that some folks out there have had some issues.
    Many thanks,
    Ken

  • Will I have issues with iCloud & ios5?

    Hi there, I'm trying to find out if my predicament will cause me issues?
    I have both an iTunes account and a me account neither are linked.
    Am I now going to have issues with icloud or will I just have 2 log ins one for my back ups e.t.c. and one for my emails and that?
    Thanks

    A backup of an iPhone using iCloud does not result in the ability to log in to iCloud and view the information (i.e., to see the actual data that was backed up). You can go on your iPhone to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > device name and see how much storage the latest backup is occupying and when it was done.
    Things like Contacts that are viewable when logging in to iCloud.com are the result of having Settings > iCloud > Contacts (as an example) turned on to sync - which is a different thing than a backup.
    The results of an iCloud backup are only rely viewable when restored back to an iOS device. I'm not sure any of that explanation helps with your current problem but it might help clarify the terminology that Apple uses.

  • Connect MBP to external Samsung monitor

    Hi all, I see similar q & a's but not exactly this :-
    I have a late '09 MPB (pre thunderbolt), I want to connect to a Samsung SyncMaster 940MW.
    I currently run 2 of these synmasters as a dual display for my MacPro with no problems using two DVI cables.
    I purchased a (I admit 3rd party) Mini DVI to DVI adaptor and I get no picture - just black screen
    I am not sure if that's the correct name for the port on the MBP but its the correct plug on the adaptor cable.
    The DVI end is the same dual link DVI as mates with the cable to the monitor.
    Not sure if i've described it well enough, and I don't think I can put a picture of the adaptor cable up?
    Any ideas folks?
    Thanks Graham

    Mini-divi?  According to MacTracker 2009 MBP's have a mini-displayport.  So you need a mini-displayport to single link dvi adapter (since that monitor's max resolution is only 1440 x 900).
    Assuming you are just wrong about the terminology because I don't know how you could plug a mini-dvi into a mini-displayport anyhow make sure the mini-displayport plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket.  Mini-displayport plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in their socket.
    On your computer, if you open the Displays preferences and do not see an Arrangement tab (or there is an Arrangement tab that shows only a single monitor) then there is something physically wrong with the connection.  Try clicking Detect Displays just to see if the computer can now sense the presence of the connection.
    If you do have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click Gather Windows to bring the monitor's Displays preferences on to your main screen.  Set the proper resolution (1440 x 900 I hope is shown).  Set the refresh rate if that preference is shown.  Hopefully you should see a picture at this point.
    The DVI end is the same dual link DVI as mates with the cable to the monitor.
    They all are physically compatible.  They only differ by which pins are used.  See the pictures here.
    Dual-link dvi adapters look a bit different and require additional power supplied by usb.  You only need dual link adapters if the video resolution is greater than 1920 x 1200.

  • Updating iphone 3gs to ios 5, is it safe or will i have issues?

    I've been weary about updating my iphone 3gs from ios 4 (4.3.5 to be exact) to the new ios 5.  I didn't have a problem sitting on an older update untill my phone started acting up and the only thing to do to fix it is to do a restore.  itunes is forcing me to update in order to restore (didn't used to do that untill the new itunes update came out a while back...makes me angry) therefore causing a bit of concern with me.  I do recall how the 3G acted when the ios 4 came out, and my worry is will the iphone 3Gs do something simmilar or worse.  What are the experiances you guys have had with it, both good and bad, I'm curious.  Also is it a good idea to update the 3gs to the ios 5 or not.

    Hi I updated my 3 gs without any problem a d it works fine my wife now has it since I got my 4S

  • Weblogic 8.1 SP4 & SQL Server 2005 - Moving to Prod - Will we have issues?

    Ok,
    Can't track down our account holder this afternoon to create a case, so i'll just throw it out there for now.
    Our whole system is running swimmingly on SP4 with BEA SQL Server Driver connecting to SQL Server 2005 (9.0.3042).
    Its been through QA, now its in the training environment...
    Pool Config
    <JDBCConnectionPool
    DriverName="weblogic.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"
    Name="myPool" PasswordEncrypted="{3DES}jkjkjkj/GFg="
    Properties="user=XXXXXX;*SendStringParametersAsUnicode*=false;*portNumber*=1433;*databaseName*=XXXXXXXXXX_mo;*serverName*=XXXXXXXXXXX"
    Targets="xxxxxxxx" TestConnectionsOnCreate="true"
    TestConnectionsOnRelease="true" TestConnectionsOnReserve="true"
    TestTableName="SQL SELECT 1" URL="jdbc:bea:sqlserver://XXXXXXXXXXXXXX:1433"/>
    I see alot of posts about people using 2005 on SP6, and there is even a patch out there to go ontop of that....
    [http://commerce.bea.com/d2d/wlplat81sp6_sqlserver2005_patch.jsp]
    And in the official docs it says 2005 is only supported in SP6.
    [http://edocs.beasys.com/wls/docs81/jdbc_drivers/mssqlserver.html#1074559]
    We are using the standard non-XA version of the drivers.
    So my questions are
    * Why is it working on SP4?
    * Do i need to worry about it moving to production using SP4?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi. We don't update docs well... You should have zero problems. I might
    recommend contacting official support to get the latest version of our
    JDBC driver package, but it may not be necessary.

  • Why do I lose my desktop picture on external (2nd) monitor after going to sleep?

    Sometimes, (not always) my 2nd monitor will not have a background picture - only gray - after waking up from sleep mode. Even going to System Prefs and selecting different picture, it will only stay gray. All other items that I drag to it or that were there when it went to sleep are fine, just the background picture is the problem. After restart, everything is OK.

  • No 1920x1080 output to external monitor from MBP 2011 OSX 10.6.8

    Hi, I have a MBP 2011 running OSX 10.6.8.
    I have recently purchased an Asus ML249H Monitor and the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable 10 ft (3 m) MDPHD10FT.
    The monitor should display at 1920x1080 natively but does not. The MBP max output resolution is 1600x900 on this screen. Is this a known issue with the MDPHD10FT cable or is it OSX? What it the work around to get 1920x1080.
    Thanks

    i had to go into iCal Preferences and delete my account and then put it back in.  Everything is working fine, now.

  • I've connected my external monitor (LG) to my new Macbook Pro 15" laptop, using the adaptor for VGA...the display now has a large black bar along the left side.  No adjustment on the monitor will fix it, no "options" on System Prefs either...any ideas?

    I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro, and connected it ot my external monitor (24" LG HD) using an Apple VGA adaptor.  The only resolution that looks good is the 1920 x 1080, but the image does not entirely fill the screen.  There is a large black gap on the left side of the screen now.  It worked fine with my "last generation" Macbook Pro...no adjustment on the monitor will help, and cannot find any System Setting in displays such as "options" or widescreen setting.  I've gone to the LG site, but no "Mac" related tech support issues come up...no forum here seems to deal with this particular issue either...any ideas?

    I have the same thing but with a 23 inch HP, worked fine with my MBP 13 from 2009 but the 2011 2.4 i5 does the exact same thing as yours!
    Very confused and hoping that some one else can help.
    Thanks

  • External LCD Monitor - Older MBP

    I have an older Macbook Pro, 2.16 C2D. The Graphics Card in it is an ATI Radeon X1600. I want acquire an external LCD monitor and I want to get one that is at least 1920x1080. Will I be able to use an HD monitor with my MBP and will it still look normal? Thanks.

    The very first MBP (CD 2.16) supported external monitors up to 2560x1600,(such as the Apple 30") psiforce. So does the C2D with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. See http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .16-15-specs.html
    Any of them can do little 22 & 24" 1920x1080 monitors with one hand tied behind their back!

  • Macbook air 2011 model to connect to an external 1080p monitor QUESTION

    i have the July 2011 Macbook Air 13". I would like to connect it to a 1080p lcd monitor or an hdtv.
    Can anyone recommend a decent model? i do not want to spend more than $300 and would prefer either a 27" or 32"
    When connected to an external monitor, will i get higher screen resolutions instead of my 1440x900 that i have on my air?

    Its going to be tough to get a "decent" model LCD monitor of that size for less than $300.  A decent model of that size will START at around $300.  That being said, your resolution will depend on what mode you set the monitor at from your Air.  If you set the mode as Mirrored, you will only get the 1440X900 on the Air, but if you set it at Extended Desktop, it should fully fill the monitor.  Also, you can set the external monitor to be the MAIN monitor with the computer operating with the display closed to get the full screen at 1080, but then you will need an external keyboard and mouse.

  • External monitor with MBP. Non Apple monitor

    Am about to purchase a new MBP and I believe I will be able to get a new Dell 24" monitor.
    question, I have read that many monitors periodically require Firmware upgrade to work at their best.
    For instance, there is a new update for the line of Dell monitors in which I am interested,. However, the firmware update (software) is only available in a ".exe" version which is Windows software,.
    How do Mac folks upgrade their non -Apple monitors? I know plenty of y'all use third party monitors.
    any tips on installing/using a third party monitor with MacBookPro will be will be appreciated, as well.

    your reply is very reassuring- I am going to purchase an external monitor for both my new MBPro and the current Macbook which I own.
    Lots of posts here assure me that using third party monitors can be done without too much hassled. (I just can't afford the Apple monitors otherwise would purchase)
    My concern came from stuff I have read (CNET) and In Dell forums where Dell concedes that the line of monitors I am considering DO have some difficulty with "banding" (Dell was getting numerous troubleshooting calls and exchanging monitors).Apparently the new Firmware, just published, fixes the problem.
    I guess I can run the firmware once I have Windows running (Parallels) in my new MacBookPro. And maybe companies will start releasing their software in Mac-usable format now that so many more Macs (especially laptops) are being sold.
    Thank
