MBP 2012 upgrade to os x 10.8.5

There is MBP 2012, mac os 10.7.5
I read, than I can to upgrade my os to os x 10.8.4 free.
How can I do that?

What a lot of people are reporting is they pay upgrade to 10.8 and go through the pay procedure etc and then are not charged afterwards for it.
I don't know this for sure and people could be just saying that to trick people to upgrade to the latest OS X version. Since 10.8 is so similar to 10.7 and the cost is small I don't see that as a serious issue if it was.
Else you call Apple and provide your machines serial number located in Apple Menu > About this Mac > More info or via the System Profiler.
They will check their records and credit your AppStore account with it if it's not already there.

• Can I upgrade my hard drive of MBP 2012 without voiding the warranty

I am planning on purchasing a new MBP (2012) 13" with the miminum Hard drive capacity. I wanted to replace the HD with my own SSD. I am comfortable doing it myself, but will it void the Apple warranty?

As long as you don't break anything and the new part is not covered by warranty/AppleCare.

Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
In fact I just upgrade the RAM today to 16GB and only took about 5 minutes.
Also your going to need to know how to reinstall 10.8 onto the drive.
Hold command option r while Ethernet cable connected to a router or modem (power reset)

• Slow Boot MBP 2012 SSD on 10.8.3 - Tried several fixes

Hi,
I have a MBP 2012, I upgrade it with Samsung SSD 830 256GB and 16GB RAM.
Boot: 50 seconds
Shut down: 20-30 seconds (uncheck documents on iCloud preferences and seems to shut down on 3 to 5 seconds)
Since the begining I figure how to make it work properly.
I made a backup with SuperDuper! and later, after some time when I want to repair permissions I realize I have lost my Recovery HD, after some Google magic I reinstall ML and solve the problem.
Start up time was too slow, then I do some search and anfer SMC + PRAM (NVRAM) reset everything seems to work fine, for some time.
Every time slow boots and shut downs come back, I do more searchs and find some fixes, but those fixes dont work the sameway for everybody, even on same machines and dont last forever.
Uninstall Little Snitch, Clean Caches, Fonts, Uninstall Parallels, Do some vudu with Cocktail and Onyx, Reinstall Mountain Lion, Update my System to the last 10.8.3 with the Combo Update, Selected my boot drive on system preferences (I just have one disc on my mac, no Fusion Drive so I dont understand why I have ti try this but did it).
I repeat some of the fixes, but always the same result, Boot time always on 50 seconds.
After some research on forums I look at mi Console and found those under BOOT_TIME

Any clues to help me? I reported slow boots and shut downs on ML, hoping to see it solved some time on the near future, maybe on 10.8.4
This is the only thing "wrong" with my MBP, after boot is fast and love to work with it.
Thanks.

Waiting for an answer I decided to start from RecoveryHD, delete my Macintosh HD and Reinstall Mountain Lion.
I have my data safe, I just have to copy my Documents and stuff and reinstall a bunch of apps if everything goes fine.
I would like to solve this other than have to do a Clean Reinstall.
Last night try to do a clean reinstall, but nothing change, still at 50 seconds boot.
Start to thinking if its something related to my disk. Seems to be the in the last firmware available for the SSD 830. TRIM is not enabled at this moment on my mac, and write & read speeds are fine.
After last boot found this:
26/04/13 13:28:09,338 root[109]: /usr/libexec/ntpd-wrapper: scutil key State:/Network/Global/DNS not present after 30 seconds
Google a little an then found this:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4070843?start=0&tstart=0 and decided to try a Hardware Test. The first Test ant fine in less than 5 minutes, now trying a complete test: After 75 minutes everything is fine. Hardware test OK.
I will continue updating this if I can fix it.

• MBA 2012 13 i7 8Gb or MBP 2012 13 i7 8Gb

Hi at all,
I need a suggests to choose between MBA 2012 i7 8Gb and MBP 2012 13 i7 8Gb ( anche after I put in SSD ).
I've already a iMAC mid 2011 27" i7QC 3,4.
I heavy work with .NET and Windows for web programming and legacy, mobile applications for iPAD/iPhone and soon, too.
So, I will execute Win7 with Parallels ( or at most with Bootcamp, but I don't like )...
What's your opinions.
Thank you.
Bp

I would go with the 13" MacBook Pro. You can install a SSD and RAM yourself and won't have to rely on those outrageous Apple prices. I also run Parallels instead of Boot Camp. I just recently upgraded to version 8 - with full Mountain Lion support. I've never had a problem with it. I don't like Boot Camp, either.
I would only buy the Air if you're primarily interested in a light piece of gear - the MBP isn't that much heavier and you have far more options with it than the Air.
Just my 2¢...

• MBP 2011 or MBP 2012?

First time here, please bare with me. So I've alway been a PC but now that my hard drive has failed I really want to get a Mac. The new MBP retina 2012 just came out and I have been waiting for it since the release of MBP 2011 (because I waited for my PC to stop working then get a new one). However, I have been hearing that if you had a MBP 2011 then it's not worth the upgrade. So if it's not worth the upgrade then why buy it and not just get the MBP 2011? The MBP 2012 is as expensive as the MBP 2011 2.6 GHz and it doesn't have the ethernet port or optical drive which I would like to have. I know that there is the ethernet- USB cord but that just takes up a USB port and I would have to buy it. Apple being apple I know it will be expensive. Also, wouldn't it just be a retina display upgrade and not much more? I don't know too much about the hardware but what I've read is that the hardware of the MBP 2012 is difficult to fix or upgrade and you would end up having to buy a new on if things didn't work out. They're so expensive I would only like to buy one.
I'm really not sure what to do. I'm thinking that I should get the MBP 2012 because it's a upgrade and since I will be keeping it forever. I need to make a decision before I start school again. Please help. Is the MBP 2012 worth it with it being so new and there are still bugs/kinks for it to be worked out? Or should I just get the MBP 2011 at the same price?

The newly released line has both the macbook pro and the macbook pro with retina display. You can buy the macbook pro (non retina version to lower the bottom line) and still enjoy the benefits of the new 2.6 quad core processor (if you are comparing the 15") and configuring your hardrive as needed/ affordable. The non retina version can be upgraded in the future but your buying as much computer as your budget allows. You also get the thunderbolt connection (1), usb 3, firewire, superdrive, ethernet (if any of those things you are currently using) ......puts you in a good position as things continue to change. Which they will. If upgradability is an important factor than the non retina may be a consideration.
I personally am trying to determine whether I can live without the firewire and drive, while determining the value of the newely added HDMI the retina has to offer.
Good luck.

• How do I use my iMac(late 2009) as a monitor for my MBP(2012) or my MBP(late 2010) without software?

I currently have a late 2009 iMac, a 2012 MBP, a mid 2010 MBP and a MinDisplay Port (MDP) male to male cable. I am trying to either use the iMac a second monitor for one of the MBPs or mirror the display.
The iMac has a MDP port and is running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
The MBP 2010 has a MDP port and is running OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion)
The MBP 2012 has a Thunderbolt port and is running OS X 10.9 (Maverics)
When I connect the 2010 MBP to the iMac with the MDP cable the screen of the iMac goes black and the MBP flashes blue. I have been looking for a solution and I have tried:
Rebooting them in the order of: connecting the cable, turing on the MBP, then turing on the iMac
Whilst they are on simply plugging the cable between the two
Connecting them with the cable while they are on, then pressing cmd-f1 on the MBP
Connecting them with the cable while they are on, then pressing cmd-f1 on the iMac
Pressing cmd-f2 on the iMac, whilst there are connected, only toggles a black screen on the iMac
Pressing cmd-f2 on the MBP doesn't do anything
Every time I connect the MBP 2012 to the iMac with the MDP cable, the MBP screen goes black and the computor screen becomes unresponsive but the screen stays on and I have to reboot the MBP.
I will really appreciate anyone who has any information on this topic.
Thanks

If the iMac is a 21-inch model, not without using a product such as ScreenRecycler over a network.

• Windows 7 booting time on MBP 2012

Hello Everyone,
I really hope that someone will be able to help out. I've tried looking for an answer but could not find anything quite similar to my problem...
Yesterday I've equipped my MBP 2012 with SSD with windows 7 installed; I've then used BootCamp 5.X to install all the drivers and that part runs perfect!
My concern is that every time I start up my Mac I can see a white screen that lasts for about 40 seconds, only then it jumps to windows boot logo.
My question is whether everyone with Windows 7 on their Macs experience the same wait time? Is there anything that can be done so that it starts booting windows right away?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys!

No answer for this problem?

• Using HP monitor with MBP 2012

I have MBP 2012 with the new Maverick OS installed. Trying to add external monitor. I bought HP IPS LED monitor and am using the Belkin mini display port to HDMI connector and an HDMI cord. Monitor cannot find a signal. I have rebooted my MBP

Hey can you try this ?
First connect your HP Monitor and go to system preferences > display > you get the option of Detectdisplay under that you have a Mirror Images select that and try if still does not work check with different monitor.

• MBP 2012 - connecting to Imac 27" 2011

Hi,
Planning on buying the new MBP 2012 with Retina. Wondering if I can connect it to my Imac 27" via thunderbolt and access the USB 3.0 of the Macbook? In other words, I would connect a USB 3.0 card reader (Compact Flash, XQD etc.) on the MBP but save it on my Imac. Do you folks think this could work?
Thanks

"Apple has no plans to implement a client driver for Windows since there is no Thunderbolt SW stack available for Windows like there is for Display Port."
That is a little bit funny since Gigabyte and other big companies have said that 2014 is the year that they are going to implement Thunderbolt in many motherboards.
"GIGABYTE 7 series motherboards are the very first to offer fully certified dual onboard Thunderbolt™ ports. Capable of connecting up to 12 devices plus 3 digital displays simultaneously with breathtaking data transfer speeds that can transfer 1TB of data in only five minutes, GIGABYTE Thunderbolt™ motherboards offer the fastest connection interface on the desktop PC."
Have you asked Apple about that? I dont understand why Apple is crippling Thunderbolt on their devices...

• Problem connecting Huawei E303 Mobile Broadband Dongle to MBP 2012

I have just purchased the Huawei E303 USB Stick for my mobile broadband from Singapore's StarHub. According to the instruction sheet, the laptop should detect the USB automatically and the mobile broadband should install itself automatically. My MBP 2012 does not detect the USB drive so I can't install the mobile broadband. My MBP run Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Does anyone have the same problem? Do you think it's the problem with Huawei or Apple? I have seen many forum posts on this issue but no one seems to offer definite solutions.

Just my personal experience : I just installed a E303 on my MacBookPro Retina 15" running 10.8.2.
All went smoothly (took a bit of time) for the first time.
I unplugged the modem and pluged it back a few minutes later, and the modem doesn't show anymore, and is not recognized by the previously installed software. LED status show booting.
Then I tried on a recent macbook Air 13", 10.8.2 as well. modem is not seen either.

• Erratic touchpad MBP 2012

Several posts on pressing the right and left corner and hearing a "click"; however, this has not worked for me.
Is there (or is there not) a known problem with the MBP 2012 with the touchpad having erractic moves? It moves all over the screen and I am unable to control what the mouse does.
Thanks

It is better to take the computer to the Apple store to have the computer checked out.
Best.

• Help with installing sql server 2012 upgrade advisor

Hello there,
I have two questions here:
1. My sql server 2005 is on Window Server 2003/SP2. Does this mean I cannot install sql server 2012 upgrade advisor on it? This page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx)
cites that the supported OS are "Windows Vista SP1, or SP2, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2."
2. I tried to install the upgrade advisor on my local machine (windows 7, 64-bit). Even after I installed "Microsoft SQL Server Transact-SQL ScriptDom ", I still got the error message "Setup is missing prerequisites: - Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL
ScriptDom, which is not installed by Updgrade Advisor Setup........" Why is that?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Hello,
Have you installed .NET Framework 4.0 also?
Make sure you installed Transact-SQL ScriptDom from the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29065&ocid=aff-n-we-loc--ITPRO40886&WT.mc_id=aff-n-we-loc--ITPRO40886
(on the
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Engine Feture Pack Components section)
Hope this helps.

• 6-15-2012 upgrade and browser flash video problems.

The 6-15-2012 upgrade for flash player v. 11.3.300.257 causes flash videos not to load in the firefox browser.
What can I do to remedy this situation besides rolling back to a previous version or disabling protected mode
permanently?
Flash content does not appear at all in my browser (firefox v. 5.0), and I do not have realplayer installed.
There is no crashing, error message, flash video content does not even appear. Changing browser settings and
preferences or disabling addons does nothing. This problem has never occured before the 6-15-2012 update.
The operating system is W7 64 bit.
Troubleshooting methods outlined on page http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#4468493 do not work.

"Finally, if these problems are blocking you from using Flash Player we recommend, as a last resort, you either
revert back to Flash Player 11.2 or temporarily disable Protected Mode. We strongly recommend that
Protected Mode is manually enabled once this issue is resolved." If I cannot resolve this issue then I
cannot manually re-enable protected mode. Again, is there any solution that does not involve rolling back to
an earlier version or disabling any sort of protection?

RE: "We strongly recommend that
Protected Mode is manually enabled once this issue is resolved."
If I cannot resolve this issue then I cannot manually re-enable protected mode.
What they mean is when Adobe resolves this issue. So far, there's nothing the user can do if the protected mode is what is causing the problems.
If you look over the dozens and dozes of posts about this, you'll see that some progress has been made. The bug causing Firefox's "silent crashes" or crashes upon close-out has been duplicated, and according to some sources, has been "resolved," but so far, no patches or formal announcements have been made.
Since there seems to be a host of problems associated with Flash Player 11.3.300.257--conflicts with Real Player; constant crashes; excessive memory/CPU usage, etc.-- I'd imagine that Adobe will try to (hopefully) fix as many as possible in the next version.
In the meantime, we'll all have to wait it out using the earlier version or the new version that we--ourselves--have had to hack to disable "protected mode." Not knowing how vulnerable Flash Player is without the Protected Mode, I'm staying away from sites with Flash Content as much as possible. Unfortunately, since most of my browsing involves business related activities, and since many, many business related sites have some Flash content, this can be a challenge.

That listed 7 hours is with very limited use. Low screen brightness, low keyboard backlight, No WiFi or bluetooth.
Most I have ever gotten from my 15" 2011 model is around 5-6 hours and that was with very light use. Just Web, Chrome, and email, thunderbird, and Wifi.
