MBP and Matrox TripleHead2Go

Has anybody used a Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital edition with a MBP?
I have a MBP 15" 2.2Ghz 4GB, nvidia GeForce 8600M GT
I just purchased one and can only seem to get one external monitor to work when its hooked up.
If you have any info about using one of these it would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya. I just recently purchased the same product - Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition. I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.6GHz with 4GB RAM with the same video card. Although I haven't yet been successful with the external monitors, I can tell you that the first step Matrox support gave me was to download the proper tool. This is not the same one as the one included with the CD-ROM disk in the Matrox package. The one you want is located here:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/drivers/software.php?os=17&produ ct=71
Please keep in mind that I had to navigate through Matrox's support site to get to this content. The same may be true for you if you can't access that page. Try starting here:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/home.php
Next, click on the icon toward the bottom of the page. The link shows this:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/gxm/home.php
On the left-hand side of this page, you should have a textual link for "Download software". Once you click this, you should have regions specific to the model you have. Since I have a TripleHead2Go Digital for Mac, this is the software I grabbed:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/drivers/driverInfo.php?id=242
Once you open the dmg file, it will create the disk image. Simply double-clicking on the pref icon will install it to your System Preferences. From here, you're supposed to be able to hook up the Matrox device to your Mac (USB & DVI connectors). This is where I'm currently having problems. I have three Viewsonic LCD's (1 is standard aspect ratio 19", 2nd & 3rd monitors are 20" widescreens). I'll post again as I attempt more things. Please do the same if you have success.

  • New MacBookPro 15" 2,2ghz(early 2011) and Matrox TripleHead2Go

    Hi,
I just bought a MacBookPro8,2, 2,2GHz i7 Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M and it doesn't work correctly with my Matrox TripleHead2Go Analog Edition. I'm connecting the TH2G to the MBP with the Apple MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter.
The problem is that the highest resolution that I can set the TH2G to is 2400x600pixels, yet I can use the TH2G on my 2006 MacPro at 3840 x 1024 at 60hz so I know that the TH2G is working correctly.
The MBP has by far enough GPU and CPU power to run the TH2G at it's highest res but there's something that's not allowing this to happen.
Does anyone know about this issue? How to overcome/fix it?
Is this related in any way to thunderbolt ?
    I'll really appreciate your help.
    Best Regards!

i also have the early 2011 mbp 15inch.
i am running insomniaX as software that allows me to run the computer with the lid closed.
i am using a matrox dualhead2Go DP, which works fine with the lid opened.
but when i restart the mbp with the lid closed the matrox is not being recognized.
Matrox PowerDesk keeps on telling me to "the displayport input cable". even when i manually dettache it and re plug it, it still is not found.
    any ideas?
    thanks,stephan.

  • MacBook Pro (early 2008) + Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Clamshell Problem

    Hi there,
I got a problem with my MBP and Matrox's TripleHead2Go Digital. This device connects to the MBPs DVI Port and splits the Video Signal into 3 equal parts to show them on 3 19" displays. It pretends there is only ONE ultra-widescreen display present with a res of 3840x1024. Hooking it up and gettings things to work is pretty easy. The only problem that occured is:
As long as my MBP is open with it's display being turned on I get a clear signal on my "ultra-widescreen display". Unfortunately though if I go into clamshell mode (either booting the MBP closed lid or later on closing it and then waking it via an external keyboard) "the" external display does NOT work as the refresh rate the MBP pumps out it too high at 75Hz. (The displays only support 60Hz).
When I then reactivate the internal display pressing CMD+F2 the external is working again with the correct 60Hz. Unfortunately though it does not work with the interal display being off.
To fix this I already tried deleting the corresponding plists in /library/Preferences (com.apple.windowserver.plist), entries in /System/Library/Displays and all display entries in /Users/Name/Library/Preferences and /Users/Name/Library/Preferences/ByHost
Deleting these entries and rebooting afterwards solved the issue about once every ten attempts or so.
Is there any better solution to achieving the correct refresh rate while operating in clamshell mode i.e. closed lid?!
    Thanks for your help!

Yes, you are right, it's too old.
Maybe it's time for a new macbook pro.
    Thank you very much

  • Mac Pro and two Matrox TripleHead2Go

Encountered a problem that new Mac Pro does not see the two Matrox TripleHead2Go.
When I connect one card TripleHead2Go - computer determines its. Resolution on Matrox 3820x1080 50Hz
After connecting to the second card - it hangs the computer and a black screen appears on the monitor.
I connect two TripleHead2Go on different buses (Bus 1 and 2).

I disagree that your problem has anything to do with the built-in graphics cards falling short. In my opinion, you are trying to move more data to the six screens than can be transferred from the number of sources you have, in the time you want.
    Try this experiment:
Set each of the displays to mirrored (the same data on each screen). Now play ONE movie onto all six screens. If you get drop-outs, the display card is defective (or, as you assert,  inadequate.)
I believe your other experiment (with six different data streams to six different displays) is I/O bound. If you get drop-outs you need more drives in more different enclosures to provide enough concurrent data for the displays.
Another experiment to try is to run two displays. Then try three. Then four, and so on. If you study where it fails and analyze how much data is needed to support each stream, I believe you will find that the amount of data required is more than can be produced by one or two ordinary drive or SSDs.
A single ordinary rotating drive can produce a single burst at about 125 MBytes/sec, not sustainable. To supply moving pictures to six displays takes far more data than that.
A third experiment is to reduce the resolution on each display to the lowest it can achieve, and play those smaller windows. Perhaps it can play six half-sized movies.

  • Has anyone had success connecting 3 monitors with a Matrox TripleHead2Go?

I have a Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition external monitor box but have had no luck getting it to work with 3 monitors on Mountain Lion.
First I managed to get it to drive two monitors, except there seemed to be no way to split them into separate monitors, as claimed in the advertising.
Then I got a 3rd monitor and connected it to the box and reconfigured the software. That is when the problems started. For a short time, it displayed on all 3 but with very low resolution, 600x800. When I tried changing the resolution then it would only display on one monitor through Output 1. That is a much as I have managed. I tried many times trying different settings, each time waiting 5 minutes each time. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, tried different combinations for monitors. Nothing helps.
So I am wondering whether just to give up and use it as a paperweight and assume only PCs can use multiple monitors?

Trying to use a THTG digital (DVI) with a 2014 MBP retina.
Although it isn't supposed to work it does, although the matrox configuration tool is very annoying, keeps rebooting the machine, and I ultimately failed to connect 3 devices.
It is happy run 2 pico projectors at 1280x720@60x2, no problem. Insists on them being in ports 1 and 3.
Trying to connect a 3rd normal sized projector via VGA, resolution changes to 1280x720@50 and the picos won't work with it. Keeps asking to reboot OSX and not setting the resolution asked 1280x720@60x3, keeps setting 50hz.
I have moved from using Ubuntu on a dell laptop to OSX, and I really miss the power of xrandr to configure from the command line. This was my bible for several years: http://www.brandon-harris.com/ubuntu/dualhead2go/triplehead2go/2011/02/01/matrox -dualhead2go-triplehead2go-on-ubuntu-with-ati-amd.html

  • Mavericks Breaks Matrox TripleHead2Go Analog compatibility

    Hello,
I got an "End-Of-Life" product of Matrox company : Matrox TripleHead2Go Analog edition.
Works a treat on older versions of OS X, I can't get the fake 2400x600 @60hz monitor that I want (as well as a whole lot of other 4:1 ratio resolutions)
    But on mavericks only the CENTER output will work on the matrox, appearing as a 1600 x 1200 / 1280 x 960 / 1024 x 768
Tried switchResX with no luck : still only the center output is active with a shrinked 2400x600 on it, that's ugly
As a side note, this version of Matrox, and despite its high cost is not supported anymore on Mac (can't get a clue on they support site...)
If anyone can brings some suggestions, I'm open
    Cya.

After a lot of fiddling and fussing I've finally get this to work !! (2 or 3 night lost...)
I had to create a custom resolution with switchResX like before with a -special- option : CVT instead of GTF.
And now I have access to all the traditionnal ultra-wide resolution inside the switchResX panel !
For me it's clearly a bug coming from Apple, it broke since the new monitor panel presentation ("scale" or "optimized" and all this nonsense).
I hope my message will be useful to another web pilgrim like me xD

  • Matrox TripleHead2Go Maximization

    Hello,
someone know how activate Windows defaut system chrome?
I have some problem on maximization with a Matrox TripleHead2Go,
Photoshop is maximized on 3screens, it doesn't respect Matrox virtual desktop,
this issue is because system using by CS4 for prettiest windows
    Sorry for my English
    Thanks for answers

so..  sell my 3 monitors and th2go and buy a 30" monitor because photoshop wont maximize to one screen?
    good solution.  not
i dont think you understand, we dont want it to maximize over 3 screens, you are correct.. that is counterproductive...
What we'd like,  or i'd like to be more precise, is for it to maximize on one screen for example, so i can have all my toolbars on another, or a reference pic.. or the navigator when working on fine detail so i can see the overall result..
But currently, when you hit the maximize.. it does go over 3 screens. This forces th2go users to have to unmaximize/restore it.. and then  carefully move each border to the edge of the screens or use a 3rd party app like maxto. Which sucks
However for everything else, like racing games, flight sims.. etc..  even first person shooters.  Th2go = win. im quite satisfied with that
PS: Oh and about AERO,  im not talking about vista aero, i have that turned off anyway.. im talking about how since everything got upgrades to this CS4 look/feel with the non-standard maximize buttons,  its stopped working.

  • Matrox Triplehead2go

Hi, I have searched the forums and found that three apple cinema displays will not work with the Matrox Triplehead2go device.
I was wondering if I use two dell monitors in conjunction with one apple cinema display, will it span across all three screens?
I need to know the answer before I go spending the money for this kind of configuration without having to buy 3 dells (I want my center screen to be the nice clear apple screen I can't live without).
    Thank you

The three displays should all have the same resolution. With three displays, the resolution of each display has to be low since the total width has to be in range of the graphics board driving the Matrox box. It might be acceptable for low resolution video, but not as a computer screen.

  • After 10.10.3 update matrox triplehead2go stopped working

I have a Matrox triplehead2go DP that I've used since I purchased my Macbook Pro (8,2) a few years ago. It's worked nearly flawlessly since inception until the 10.10.3 update.  I updated at home over the weekend and since Monday, I've only gotten it to see and use the device for a few hours yesterday.  I have a ticket open with Matrox (after updating the software and firmware), but wanted to know if anyone else has had an issue with it.

I use Matrox DualHead2Go, just updated (4/26/15) to 10.10.3 build (14D136) in a separate partition for testing OS X upgrades, and have not experienced any new problems with the functioning of my dual displays via DualHead2Go on a 2014 MacMini. So at least this build of 10.10.3 is OK with the DualHead2Go.
Note to DerekJames: I use the DualHead2Go instead of using two Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters plugged to my MacMini because in that configuration it takes the monitors 30 to 90 seconds to be stable.  Before stable they will display snow &/or cycle On/Off/On every few seconds as if trying to establish a firm video connection.  No such problems exist using the DualHead2Go or using a single monitor (so the DVI adapters are not the problem).
An existing minor problem with the DualHead2Go, under 10.10.2 also, that may be unique to my 2014 MacMini, is that the DualHead2Go does not receive video after Option key is held during restart to select the startup disk.  This problem does not exist for my MBookAir (running Mavericks) or any of the other Mac systems tested by Matrox.

  • New MBP and existing network

    Hello All,
I've just migrated from a G4 PB 1.5 to a new MBP and, while I can log into the existing WiFi, I can't see any of the other nodes on the network. I have my wife's MP Black and a Mini acting as a HTPC/Server. I just migrated through using the assistant and didn't change any of the settings yet.
The Mini is sitting headless downstairs so I used to log in remotely using Chicken of the Sea VNC. Now it no longer is visible, nor do the computers show up via network.
It's been a while since I set this network up and I know that 10.4.8 has altered some of the security. What do I need to tweak??
    Cheers,
    JC

A router separates two LAN networks and creates two broadcast domains. The standard Microsoft workgroup browsing will only list what is inside your LAN and never something outside or across a router.
If you want to access what is on the other side you must manually enter the share with its IP address. If the computer you want to access has IP address 192.168.100.12 then you enter \\192.168.100.10\share.
But as you want to be able to share freely inside your LAN anyway, I would suggest you set up the WRT as wireless simple access point. That way, you only have a single LAN and a single broadcast domain and thus you can find all other computers if you check for other workgroup computers. Instructions how to set it up as access point are here.

  • Moving Library to New MBP and restored iPhone

Shortly after I acquired a new MacBook Pro, I had to restore my iPhone 3G and lost all of the media stored on the phone. What is the easiest way to copy my iTunes library from my PC to both the MBP and iPhone. First inclination is to 1) sync the iPhone with the PC to get the music on it, then 2) sync the iPhone with iTunes on the MBP.
    Does that sound doable?

  • Put SSD in new MBP and it's slower

Alright guys so this is something I've been trying to figure out but haven't had much luck.  Previously I had a mid 2010 15" MBP that I put a crucial M4 SSD in.  When I installed the SSD I was getting a read speed of 268 Mb/s and a write of 239 Mb/s.  So yesterday I upgraded slightly to a late 2011 15" MBP and I pulled the SSD out of my old laptop and placed it in my new.  I did completely wipe the SSD and reinstall yosemite.  But when I run a speed test now my write is only 120 Mb/s and my read speed increased dramatically to 390 Mb/s as it should since this is sata 3 capable.  My questions is why would the same SSD be slower in a newer laptop with better specs.  Thanks for any help on this one!

If you run your car into a tree, do you expect the manufacturer to repair it for free?  Using a MBP and drinking at the same time is hazardous multi-tasking.  Don't do it.
    Ciao.

  • Upgraded to new MBP and now I can't bounce?

I recently upgraded my MPB and now for some reason, when I bounce, the file is empty/silent. I am using all the same gear and the same templates I used on my old computer. Nothing has changed except the computer. I went line by line through every setting with the old computer and everything is the same.
Any insights? I tried bouncing in every format both offline and online. Same results. I also opened the file on my old computer and it bounced just fine.
    Help?

Have you tried trashing logic prefs? Or perhaps copy the prefs from your old computer to your MBP, and substitute the current prefs there.
Have you looked in System Preferences... and checked the sound settings?
As a last resort, you can try zapping the PRAM, although that resets every system setting to defaults. Before starting up, press shift-option-p-r (a 'chord') and lift after the second chime.

  • Just Got New MBP and need to reinstall Software

I just got a 15inch MBP and installed Final Cut Studio 2 which I did not know was 55 gigs. I want to install it on an external HD so I want to reinstall Leopard with my disc I received when I bought my MBP from Apple. Will I still get all of my extras such as ilife with my install disc and will it restore it to factory (as I received it when I first bought it?) Thank you!

An 'erase and install' will remove EVERYTHING from your harddrive, and if you've already got Leopard installed, that's your only option.
Reintalling Leopard will NOT install iLife; to my knowledge there are no Leopard+iLife 08 install DVDs. . . just Leopard DVDS. I may be wrong, as I have an old Mac and not a new one, which may come with a software package I've never seen (but I'm getting my GF a new MBP for Christmas!!). I think you need to (and should have) a seperate iLife 08 disk with which you can reinstall iLife.
A couple of questions and some advice:
-I assume you have at least a 120gb harddrive. Why do you want to install FCP2 onto an extrnal DVD? If you plan to use that space to store media, it would be a better idea to store the media (i.e. the video footage, etc) on an external drive and keep your FCP application on your internal HD.
-Also, if you are going to run FCP on an external HD, get a FIREWIRE 800 external HD. They are quite a bit more expensive, but I had a LOT of problems just using FCP1 to edit footage stored on an external USB HD . .. I can't IMAGINE the problems you would have running FCP2 off of a USB external HD.
-Thinking about it again, where are you going to store your footage? On the same external HD as FCP? I think that will work . . .
    Looking forward to hearing more!

  • Help with new MBP and iTunes

I need some help fast. I bought my wife a new MBP and in setting everything up we inadvertently setup a new and wrong iTunes account. We haven't transferred anything yet, I want to get this account off her computer before I bring everything from her Win 7 machine.
Can't find any specific instructions, can somebody help me out?
    Thanks!
    Mark

It's late so this will be rather short:
    1.  Make sure you update the older version of iTunes to the latest version
    2.  Go into iTunes Settings and Authorize iTunes with your Apple ID and Password
    3.  In settings, turn off Automatice sync
    4.  Connect your iPad and once recognized, right click the device from the left side of the the iTunes screen
    5.  Transfer purchases
    6.  You can then sync
A lot to digest and I don't have the time to walk you through every step.  If you need to, google the points and you'll find lot's of information on where to find these in iTunes.
