MBP APE can not connect to 802.11n only 5GHz

I purchased a 17" MBP about a month ago and then got the APE two weeks ago.
I am running DSL to a Linksys (not WiFi) router. I attached the APE to the Linksys and created a network using 'Bridge'. Everything worked great. During setup I tested 802.11n (b/g compatible) and 802.11n only 5GHz, but left it at b/g compatible. Airport Utility is on my G5 dual 1.8 which is hard wired to my Linksys.
A week ago I lost the connection from my MBP to the APE. I unplugged the APE for a minute and then plugged it back in. I got my connection back. This has happened only once.
A few days ago I applied the APE update to my MBP and everything seemed okay.
Today I tried switching from b/g compatible to n only (5 GHz). When I choose n only from Airport Utility my MBP can no longer see my APE network (this did work before).
I did a restart, Repaired Permissions and I also unplugged the APE. No joy.
Everything is fine with b/g compatible but n only does not work.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Yes, I did run the n enabler when I first set up my MBP and I was able to connect as n only for several weeks. Then two things happened, I lost connectivity which unplugging the APE fixed and a few days later I ran the APE for Intel update.

  • 802.11n only 5GHz or 802.11b/g compatible?

Using a wireless connection to an AE, I don't notice any difference in speed and/or performance with my MB while in the "802.11n only" (5GHz) mode compared to the "802.11b/g compatible" (2.4GHz) mode. No matter which mode, I don't seem to get more than 130 MBit/s. Could someone please provide me the correct AE settings and/or tweaks necessary for me to obtain the optimum speed. FYI, my AE is connected via Ethernet to a cable modem with Charter Communications 5.2 Mb/s High Speed Internet service. (I already installed the 10.5.8 combo update with no problems)

I see you have marked this solved... but would just like to confirm. Are you using download speeds as your measurement?... or moving files within your local network? For the most part, even FiOS... which is generally the fastest internet available for the average consumer... will not saturate the bandwidth of 802.11g. You will not see any faster internet speeds using 802.11n vs. 802.11g.

  • Macbook Pro with Vista does NOT connect to 802.11n

I have a Macbook Pro running Vista and a wifi Linksys WRT350 access point/router, which does 802.11b/g/n. The Macbook Pro only connect to the access point at 802.11g 54Mbps the access point is set to mix-mode. If I set the access point to only 802.11n, the Macbook Pro cannot connect to the access point. If I use bootcamp to load the Mac OS X, the Mac OS X is able to connect to 802.11n. The signal level is pretty good on Vista ad Mac OS X.
    Any ideas?

Usually when connecting a camera only the SD card is mounted, so it is normal to see only the SD card mounted on the Desktop. The camera is not actually the device, rather the SD card (and interface) is. Apparently System Information does report correctly on the camera itself.
Be sure to check at Epson's support site for an updated driver compatible with Lion. You can also download the latest drivers package from Apple: Epson Printer Drivers v2.9 OS X.
Of importance is if the scanner is working. If it is working, then it really doesn't matter, except cosmetically, that the device is reported as a printer. You can report that to Apple via Apple Feedback.

  • Can't join "802.11n only 5Ghz" but can connect to "802.11n only 2.4 GHz"

Using an airport extreme and two MacBook C2D's, I'd like to have the airport create an "802.11n only 5 GHz" network using WPA2 Personal security. For some reason, I can create an 802.11n only 2.4 GHz network and join it, but am unable to join the exact same network using 5 GHz.
Can anyone help me solve this?
I live in an urban environment with TONS of competing networks / microwaves / sonos / cell phones / cordless phones ... on the 2.4Ghz bandwidth and want to use 5 Ghz. What could be causing this problem?

Me reporting back again - I may have narrowed down the problem, on my system at least. I bought a new Airport express with 802.11n capability and I set it up as a separate network to my stereo, broadcasting at 5GHz. It worked fine, and in fact it eliminated the interference problem I was having. Since my computer manages at 5 GHz, as well as the new Airport Express, it means that the problems I have been having broadcasting at 5GHz originate from the Airport Extreme base station. Could be that others are having that problem as well? I'm only sorry that the base station is beyond the warranty period, so I can't return it.

  • New Macbook Air will not connect to 802.11n, but my old 2011 model will

I have just bought a new MBA 13", i7, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD.
When I connect to my home network I see it as a 802.11n network, but as soon as I log on, I only have 802.11g connection. I still have my old 2011 MBA, and it connects to the n-standard just fine.
I went to the local Apple reseller to have them look at it, but the problem was not present when connecting to their airport extremes.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem, and is there a known fix?
    Casper

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership. If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to  exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different.

  • 802.11n only MBP connects new MP not

When I set the Airport Extreme Base Station to 802.11n only (5GHz) then my MacBookPro (2009) does connect wirelessly, as do the other Airports in the chain. But my brandnew MacPro (mid 2010) does not. Is it possible this one works on 2.4 GHz only and does not recognize the 5 GHz band?
I read something about some Airports being dual band. How can I find out if mine fall in that category?

Something strange seems to happen here. First time I changed to 5 GHz the other AX's in the chain reconnected. But the MacPro did not, even when trying to reconnect with network Name and Password. Then, changing the network from a closed network (Name has to be known) to one that can be seen, suddenly the MacPro did connect to the Airport network. Is there an issue with networks in closed status? (Wireless>>Wireless Network Options>>Create a closed network).

  • Wont connect using 802.11N

My imac can see the name of the network but refuses to connect to it using 802.11N. Its really odd because my Apple TV has no problem connecting to the router using 802.11N

I have the exact same problem but haven't been able to figure it out. My problem is that my C2D iMac 24 (white) will see 802.11n only network, but will not attach to it. Monitoring the network attachment process on Network Utility shows a few seconds of trying, then eventually gives me a small "instruction" saying "See Administrator". That's not so helpful.
If you were having the same problem and had figured it out, I'd love to hear it.
My wireless AP has no WEP or any Mac filtering enabled.

  • I have an Airport Extreme wireless router & I can not connect my Kindle.

I have an Airport Extreme wireless router & I can not connect my Kindle.  Also, my password will not work when a visitor uses it for a laptop (even a Mac) or any other device that uses the internet.  It says the password is incorrect.  I easily connected a Kindle last year, but I got a new one & now I can not connect wirelessly.  I see no tab to create a guest network.  I do not mind giving my password to visitors, but that does not work.

If you temporarily disable wireless encryption on your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), can the Kindle connect to the router and gain access to the Internet now? If so, then I would suggest that you reconfigure the AEBSn to use "WPA2 Personal" for the Wireless Security setting, and then, try connecting with the Kindle again.
As far as establishing a Guest Network, the AEBSn must not be in bridge mode. That is, it should be the only router in your current network and directly conncted to the Internet modem. If it is, then you would find the Guest Networking option on the AirPort > Guest Networking tab:

  • HT4628 some times my internet connection will say it has timed out and I can not connect. but my friends mac never has a problem. How can I fix this?

some times my internet connection will say it has timed out and I can not connect. but my friends mac never has a problem. How can I fix this?

Just confirming, when you have the trouble, the wifi icon is grayed-out or has all bars showing? I believe you are saying that is is grayed-out - not connected to your wireless router.
I have a Mini that started to lose connection to the Internet after the 10.7.3 update but still showed the wireless as connected. If I pinged the wireless router, I would get a quarter of the packets failing to return. The router was a Netgear that supported 802.11N connections. As a test, I set it to 802.11G (54MBps) maximum and the Mini worked fine for a week - no dropouts. And for the other devices that did support 802.11N, while there was a noticeable delay with downloads and pages loading, they still worked.
As another test, I changed the Netgear router to a Billion 802.11N model and the Mini has not had a problems since. (It is still using 802.11g). So it could be your router that is causing trouble for your Mac.
Have a look at some of the More Like This postings in the right column. There has been a number of Mac owners experiencing wifi connection issues and some very good suggestions as to how to resolve their issue.

  • Can't connect to 802.11 N AirPort network with Macbook Core Duo

So with my Airport Extreme, I set the router to be on 802.11n ONLY 2.5Ghz and my Macbook can't connect to it for some reason. But when I switch the configuration on my Extreme to 802.11n (802.11 b/g compatible) 2.5 Ghz, I'm able to connect with my Macbook.
I thought maybe the 802.11n enabler that came with the Extreme didn't work the first time I installed it on my computer so I tried to install it again but to no avail. I came to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my 802.11n capabilities on my Macbook by the test above, but can anyone thing of any other way to identify the problem? Can anyone think of a way to fix this problem?

To verify that 'n' capabilities are enabled:
Open Network Utility (found in the Applications > Utilities folder)
Under the Info Tab, choose Network Interface (en1)
In the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), the 802.11n capability is installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n capability.
If your MacBook has the "Core Duo" processor it does NOT have 802.11n hardware. Only the "Core 2 Duo" MacBooks have the 802.11n hardware.

  • IPhone 3 can not connect to new nets

Hi, I have an iPhone 3 and it has the problem that whenever I want to connect to a new wifi point access I introduce the correct password and the device says "It is not possible to connect to "NETNAME"" though my iPhone is near to the point access router, it is so near that I even put the device next to the router. This problem didn't happen before, I was able to connect for example to my university's wifi or office's wifi. They changed their nets, so I had to connect again for the first time and then it would be automatic to connect, but I can not connect for that first time, although the net is similar to the mentioned before. What can be the problem? PD: I can connect to my house wifi's but my device has to be really near to the router, its signal caption is really poor.

    IPhone 3 G can only connect to Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g.
Maybe because of that since you have no problem connecting to your home wi-fi.

  • Can an airport express 802.11n extend range of Netgear base stn?

can an airport express 802.11n model (i think it is two years old) work as a range extender for an existing base station (it's a netgear station, not an airport base) without having to hook up an internet cable to the Airport Express?  --Bishop

Virtually no chance that the Express is compatible with a product from another manufacturer, but you can always give it a try.
Apple designed the "extend" feature to only work with other Apple routers.
If you have already been trying to do this and cannot, I think you already have your answer.

  • Can not connect outside of Lan to with rtsp PVC2300

I have the following cameras set up at my office
    1 - PVC2300
    2 - WVC54GC
    3 - AXIS 225FD
    I have a BEFSR81 Router
I have a computer on Windows XP running the surv software to record.  Everything with that is good.
    I also have 2 desktops.
I have been playing around with the rtsp feed with the pvc2300, but have run into a few problems.
1(a).  I can not connect outside of the LAN with RTSP with either the VLC player or quicktime.  It connects and asks for a password and then just hangs.
The PVC 2300 local address is 192.168.1.102 with ports 554, 5000-5010, and 6970-6999 forwarded on the router.  What am I missing?
1(b) I can successfully connect with my blackberry bold, although when I try to change the default port (554) to something else (I would like to RTSP my the AXIS camera as well,  so I will need a different port) it connects on my bold, but then says server is unresponsive. What am I missing here?
    2.  The voice with the PVC 2300  using http outside of the LAN (internet) lags quite baddly and is choppy.  This happens without fail when I have all 4 cameras running, which I understand is upload bandwidth problem.  But it also happens when I connect to just the PVC2300.  I do have a connection to all 4 cameras inside the LAN to the XP running the surv software, but that is it. Is the my router acting buggy?  I have unplugged the router for 5 sec, and it fixed it for a while, but it always comes back.  I have donwloaded the latest firmware for the router and PVC 2300 and that didnt seem ot fix it either.  Suggestions?
    3.  This is more of a question.  I know the mobile streaming of the PVC 2300 does not include voice.  Is there an app or way that I can just get it to my Blackberry.  Even if I didnt get the video, voice is sometimes more important to me.
I hope Ive been clear enough in my description, Im very self taught (google is amazing), but I am in no way a techy.
Thank you in advace for your help.
    Colin

Glad to hear you are successfully using the SWVMS16. That program is really cool and useful. I just cant tell you how that model of Linksys Router can work for you here (that is not a model we support on this community as its not small business)
Regarding RTSP access, are you also including the mobile.sdp in the URL?
RTSP:///mobile.sdp   I noticed in the camera GUI with the newer firmware, you can specify an access code under mobile settings after checking the enable mobile streaming box.  That word may be what you have to include, so check that too...
Try this locally first and then remotely is the easiest way to see if you got it right, then it just becomes a routing or firewall issue to figure out.
But your forwarded ports look right and should be opened.
Under advanced settings, you can define an alternate HTTP, HTTPS or RTSP port
