MBP Audio Input only works in Garageband?

I have multiple audio/music apps installed. Can't get samples through my line-in via anything but Garageband; which I don't really use a lot. I use a Presonus USB audio interface when I'm in the office but at home or on the road I usually just plug in through the line-in built-in input. I literally can't get any audio to work unless I have an active track being monitored in GB. It's got to either be something I've really messed up or something incredibly simple that I'm missing (anti-feedback?). Here's all I have installed that I know of:
Traktor
Maschine 2
Audacity
Garageband
Soundflower
PreSonus Studio One 2 (basic)
Have checked through system pref/midi settings/audio routing for each of these apps... any ideas?
Thanks

Good Afternoon djLDB,
The resource below explains how to set up an Aggregate Device in the AudioMidi Setup, which may be helpful in configuring your audio interface for sound input/output.  Click on the link for complete details.

  • Premiere CS4 Audio Effects Only Work On Latter Half Of Each Audio Clip

I'm currently working with Premiere CS4 on a Windows 7 PC and running into some audio issues when exporting the video. In the timeline when I playback the preview the audio sounds fine but when I export it the audio effects I applied in Premiere only work half the time. Each audio clip will play in it's raw form for a few seconds and then halfway through playing the Premiere audio effects will turn on. I have two audio tracks in my timeline, one for music and the other for narration. There are 10 video tracks in total for various masks, overlays, title, etc.
The sequence has 18 audio clips in total and each one has a separate EQ, Highpass, Volume, and Denoiser effect on it (most are similar but are fine tuned for each clip). So far I've tried exporting as an AVI, MP4, and WMV but each has the same issue. I've also tried exporting with and without the "Use Preview Files" option on the Adobe Media Encoder to no avail.
Has anyone else ever encountered this type of issue before or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Posting for anyone else who comes across this issue:
I was able to fix this by taking all of my audio clips and nesting them in a new sequence, which was then moved to the main sequence. I kept all the effects on their individual clips.

The Fostex AR-4i and the Line6 Mobile In provide stereo audio input via USB on the iPads and the iPhone 4.
Why can't these devices work on an iPod Touch 4G?

Does the manufactur say it works with the iPod Touch?  Many accessories do not work with all three iDevices (iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone)

  • Audio adjustment only works sometimes

I've been trying to mute the volume on my audio clips with variable results. Basically if I make adjustments to the volume it generally doesn't work but occasionally, and intermittently, it will work. The audio graphs below the clips always change but the actual sound doesn't. I notice from a couple of other posts that the latest update 9.0.4 solves some of these problems but I have this version. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this behaviour?
BTW I am using a MacBook Air with latest Lion installed.

Having the same issue with 9.0.4 installed and .  Audio adjustments to mute audio simply stopped working.

What I was expecting was other people chiming in on this with possible solutions to stream audio only. Aside from simply "buy something new" .
If Apple makes a product that has a separate output for audio and they advertise and sell that product stating that you can use it with AirPlay to "listen to music", then to me it seems pretty obvious you don't need to turn on your television all the time to use these aspects of that product. Of course you need a power lead to watch video, that's something that has not to be said, I follow you there. If however you have to turn on your TV to simply listen to music (despite the fact that you have a dedicated output for music), THAT is imho something that needs to be said if that's the case... That's not obvious, that's just nonsense; why would you need to watch if the only thing you want to do is listen?
Anyway, semantics aside and wether Apple does or does not state certain things, you're answers were also helpful (for which I thank you) because they made me look at this problem from a different angle.  So this morning I thought: if my TV sends a bad off/standby signal to my HDMI and that in turn is blocking my optical audio out, why don't I just unplug the HDMI cable from the Apple TV and only use the optical audio out?
And eureka! I've been enjoying an hour of nice Airplayed music without my TV on!
So thanks a lot for putting me on the right track and sorry if I acted a bit annoyed, but I really felt had a point here. As did you Anyway, nice to be able to have a decent online discussion without things getting out of hand and with the additional bonus that my initial problem is now solved! (which, as a final note, is something very simple that could easily be stated in the manual: "if you want to use the optical audio out of your Apple TV to stream music, it is advised that you unplug the HDMI cable to prevent unwanted standby/off signals". )
    Thanks for your help!

  • Normal audio input not working

I know this sounds really dumb, but i cant get logic pro to simply record input sound through the mini jack input on the side of the laptop. Ive tried selecting it in sound preferences, and also in the logic set up assistant.
But still it starts saying 'these options are not possible; will use computers own' but it wont and record buttons are also not present on the arrange page
should it use core audio? (which is enabled) sample rate is 44.1 by the way
    Thanks

Yes, CoreAudio needs to be enabled. According to the specs, the MBP is a combination digital/line in jacks. You may need to check and see if there's any special configurations for it to be set to line input. As well, you may be required to set up an aggregate device in the Audio/MIDI Setup, as the line in and out may be separated (and a valid CoreAudio device requires both in and output).

  • Dual Audio Synchronization Only works once?

I use Premiere Pro CC and love the features, planned my shot with the "Audio Synchronization"-feature in mind. The problem is that it only seems to work one time, one piece of footage and one piece of audio in one sequence. When I try to do it again the videoclip gets moved in a random way instead of the audioclip. Does anyone know why this is? I am working on a big project now and would really need this to work.
I am on Windows 7 with the lastet Premiere Update.

  • Input only working once with JTextField

    Hi,
I've created an GUI with one JTextField, a JTextArea and a JLabel that I use to display an imageIcon. I want the user to be able to input text into the JTextField without having to click on it with the mouse. I've used requestFocus() to do this and it works the first time. I then clear the JTextField using setText(""), so the user can enter more input. After I do this the cursor is still flashing but when I type nothing comes up in the JTextField. I've tried calling requestFocus() after setText() as well but it didn't work either. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • AirPlay audio stutters - only works when mirroring

I have a 3G Apple TV, which I use to stream audio content from my iPhone 5 and 3rd generation iPad. When I try to stream audio from those devices via AirPlay, it stutters horribly. If I enable mirroring, it works fine. If I enable mirroring for a second and then disable it, it also works fine. So, everytime I need to stream audio, I have to turn on mirroring and then turn it back off again - quite a pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix it? I have read numerous articles on optimizing my WiFi network and router/AppleTV placement, and have optimized all aspects of the network as best I can. AppleTV shows a strong signal and has no problems streaming content using the AppleTV menu itself (Netflix, iTunes, iTunes Match, etc).

I also am having trouble with AirPlay on Apple TV 2 (iMac on 10.7, iPhone/iPad on iOS 5). I found a workaround using the Apple TV: turn AirPlay off/on, then go into the password screen and immediately exit (i.e., don't set a password). After exiting the password screen AirPlay begins playing.
I hope Apple recognizes this as a bug and fixes it soon.

  • Add to iTunes as an Audio Track only work for TTS voice Alex

I tried to select a whole document and right click "Add to iTunes as an Audio Track"
However I notice that if I chose a Voice that is not the default "Alex", (e.g a British English voice Daniel) the audio track does not read the whole document that I selected. I tried a few other voice it does the same, it stoped at some point at the document. When I choose System voice "Alex", it reads the whole document.
Also I am using a voice that is not Alex for my text to speech voice and it all work fine when I use "speech-start speaking"
Is this a bug or something?

    HI christos,
Make sure to select the text you wish to convert into an itunes spoken track. and then after using the command check in itunes. to see if the track shows up.

  • Garageband Quits Every Time I Change Audio Input/Output

Hi. I own a Plantronics headset that came with MacSpeech Dictate when I bought that software a few years ago. It shows up on my Mac as a C-Media USB Audio device.
I'm trying to use it with Garageband. So, in Garageband, I've gone into Preferences and the Audio/MIDI section.
When I choose the C-Media USB Audo device as either "Audio Input" or "Audio Output" (I want to use the headset for both), Garageband asks if I want to "Change audio driver" and I then click yes. Then Garageband has a status bar saying "Initializing audio driver." Then, before it finishes initializing, Garageband quits. This happens every single time.
So, I'm not sure what to do. I don't even understand why Garageband is looking for a driver when my headset is a USB device that works with all programs -- it's not a MIDI keyboard.
Sometimes, after I restart Garagband after the quit, I see that it has changed the device. But this happens more frequently for the Audio Output Device. For instance, the C-Media device is now selected for Audio Output. But I keep selecting it for Audio Input as well and Garageband keeps quitting and when I restart it, the Audio Input device hasn't changed and still says Built-in Microphone.
I can't imagine I'm the only one who's had this problem. If anyone knows the solution, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks!
    M

Thanks for the reply. it got me halfway there. Now it will open for the audio side, but still crashes as soon as I switch to Midi.
There were no Midi configs in my library, but there's a folder full of them in the main Library. Most of the files in there I don't care about, but there are several that I don't want to lose. Should i trash the folder and then re-install the ones I want?

  • USB audio input to voice-over tool not working

with FCE-HD on iMac i have system preferences set to USB-122 Tascam box for audio input/output (works great with GB for instance) but when i try using it for audio input on FCE and the voice-over tool set to USB-122, i hear no audio, the level meter doesn't more, etc, its still taking the audio from the built-in mic.

  • Audio input and internal problems

    Hey
Before you tell me to check my sound system preferences and change that i already have and yes its all they way over to the right and its been over to the left and everywhere but my mic is terible, i can shout away and it about picks me up, only when i tap the wee hole where it lives does it pick up well.
I aint sure whats wrong there? Any ideas?
Also i aint sure if my Audio input is working as i bought myself a small mic and it dosent work it says the sound card needs to have a stereo condenser microphone output...whatever that means...
Any help would be much apreciated
    Guy Phenix

    Hi,
A stereo condenser mic output is one that powers the microphone you are using. It sends some electricity up the wire to the microphone to power a small amplifier inside of the microphone. Your microphone will not work without this small amout of electricity (called phantom power).

  • Mac mini audio input

It says that the mac mini has "optical digital audio input/audio line in" (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=br owse&mco=9BF2D40D&node=home/desktop/mac_mini), but i've tried two microphones now and neither work.
Both work fine on my PC.
I've checked the audio in volume and it's turned up to max.
How do I get audio input to work on my mac? Do I have to buy an apadter? It says in the specs that it supports both analog AND digital input...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
As an alternative to a pre-amp to bring the mic up to a compatible line-level signal, you might want to look at something like a Griffin iMic (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/) which would resolve the problem via USB.
