Mbp battery care before storing laptop for 2 months : anything special I should do?

Do I just shut it down or should I empty 50% of the battery as if I were leaving for 5 months?
Do I remove the battery?
Thank you!

Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your notebook and battery at the proper temperature.

  • Hi everyone i have just bought new Ipod touch 32 GB and upgraded to 5.0.1 and it it worse now my battery doesn't last long for more then hvvour. what should i do?

    Hi everyone,
I have just bought new Ipod touch 32 GB and upgraded to 5.0.1 and it it worse now my battery doesn't last for more then two hour.
what should i do? it is seriously big problem.
    Please help me.......

This is a general comment, not directed to anyone, and not to be taken personally by anyone.  This ongoing screw up with the new upgrade (5.0.1) is getting to be a **** SHAME.  In no way can APPLE or anyone else for that matter not know by now that the upgrade is terribly flawed.  The Ipod machines themselves are super great products, and I enjoy mine to the max.  However the upgrade once applied ruins it.   And at least, not to my current knowledge,  there haven't been any fixes forcoming.
In my opinion Apple should own up to that fact and warn folks that, even though the upgrade was presented with the best intentions, IT JUST AIN"T WORKING.  And not to download it until further  notice. This noticication could be done through the retail sales outlet, online, what ever.
I liken this to a pharmaceutical coming out with a new vaccine, encourage everyone to use it, then discover it's bad to the degree it causes it uses to become sick.  Rather then pull the vaccine they keep on allowing unsuspecting ones to continue to vaccinate, and become sick.  What a shame!

  • I want to store my ibook.  Can I take out the battery and simply not use it for months?

Just bought a new imac and want to mothball the laptop.  Can I simply remove the battery and not use it?
Do I have to recharge the battery every few months?
Can't see the point in leaving it plugged in as its not being used, yet in case I need it as a back up would like to keep it.
    Any comments on proper procedure?
    thanks.

    From Apple:
    Storing Your MacBook Pro
If you are going to store your MacBook Pro for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (ideally, 22° C or about 71° F) and do one of the following to preserve your MacBook Pro battery life:
Discharge the battery 50 percent before storing your MacBook Pro.
When storing your computer for longer than five months, discharge the battery to approximately 50 percent and then remove it from the MacBook Pro. If you are storing your computer for an extended period, recharge your battery to 50 percent every six months or so.

  • Macbook 13 worked fine without a battery for months, suddenly no longer turns on

A couple years ago my friend gave me her old MacBook 13 computer. It was already old for her, so I'm not exactly the year it's from It has 10.6.8. Batteries for this MacBook and bootleg ones similar have a tendency of swelling, so I've had to buy a bootleg battery off Amazon and EBay a couple times. In April the battery had swelled up and I settled on just letting it run with out a battery so that I could save up to buy a better battery. It worked fine for five months, other than the obvious fact it had to remain plugged into the wall at all times and it was significantly slower. But it worked. Yesterday morning I booted up the laptop out of sleep mode and it went to my login screen and died. No warning, no systematic shut down, just black. This would usually only occur if it was unplugged from the wall, but everything was still plugged in. I checked the chord and it seems to be fully functional. I tried pressing the on button multiple times, it just wouldn't turn on. I left it plugged into the wall for about 2 hours and it miraculously started up with the start up noise and the grinding of the hard drive. I used it for the rest of the day for work, but then while typing up a document the same thing happened again, a shut down with no cause. I left it on the charger all night, hoping what happened before would happen again, but it's been over 12 hours and it's completely unresponsive. The adaptor is really hot and so is the part that is magnetic and attached to the computer itself.
I've ordered another bootleg battery, but it doesn't arrive for another two weeks. I have an online course at my university that I absolutely need access to my computer ASAP for. Is there anything I can do in the meantime, or is this purely a battery related issue that will be solved when my new battery arrives?

A hard drive really shouldn't make grinding noises. It's possible the hard drive has given up on you. Notebook hard drives typically last 3-5 years, though some may last longer.
If you're near an Apple store, I would highly recommend you make an appointment and bring it in for the techs to evaluate. Diagnosis is free and they can give you an estimate for the cost to repair it.

  • Should I always plug my laptop to the charger or should I let the battery die before recharging my laptop

Hi, I have a macbook pro.  I use it a lot for college and I was wondering, should I always plug my laptop to the charger or should I let the battery die before recharging my laptop? Is there a difference?  The battery of my laptop is supposed to last how long?
    Thank you alot!

  • Storing printer for few months

do i need to do anything special when storing the printer for a few months?

The Envy 5530 has printheads integrated into the ink cartridges.  If you can store the printer in a cool place that is not subjected to temperature extremes that would be best.  Turn off the printer using its power switch and wait for the printer to finish parking the printheads before unplugging the printer.
If it is not possible to store the printer in a cool place outside of temperature extremes you could alternately remove the cartridges and store them.  Get a sandwich sized Tupperware container and fold a bit of paper towel and put it on the bottom of the container with about a tablespoon of water.  Put the cartridges on their side and make sure the nozzle plate does not touch anything, either the sides of the container of the other cartridge.  Seal the lid firmly in place.  If possible put this in the refrigerator or some cool place for storage.
When you return allow the cartridges to return to room temperature (while still sealed in the container) for about a day before installing them back in the printer.  It may be necessary to run a few cleaning cycles to get the ink flowing properly again.

  • Ipod touch 2g not used for months, battery drained and taking way too long to charge

I had an ipod touch 2g that got wet a couple of months ago. They were inside a jacket pocket when the rain started pouring. After that, the screen only turn white when turned on. I just had the LCD replaced, but since i havent used it in months, the battery has been drained. I plugged it into my PC to charge for a couple of hours already, but its still not enough. The lowbatt icon is there, but iTunes still doesnt recognize it despite being plugged in for a few hours already.
Does it really take this long to charge an ipod touch that has been completely drained and not used for months? I'm worried there might be other problems besides the LCD when it got wet before. Should I have it checked again for battery charging problems? Or am i just being impatient?

I tried charging it through the adapter, still got the same problem. So i had it checked again and the battery apparently also needed to be replaced. Haven't had any problems with it since then!

  • I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED. After some months of use my MBP died. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was to blame

I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED.
After some months of use my MBP died outside USA. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was faulty.
After I came back to US I took my MBP to Apple store and was told that there is liquid damage in the system. My question is that if there was liquid damage why did my MBP stop displaying the battery status right after  the battery was changed secondly why didnt the apple verified Service centre tell me that there was liquid damage afterall I paid them the money for diagnosing the problem.
Is there a process i can followup on this problem

These are question you would need to ask that service center.

  • MBP running out of battery power before sleeping - Help!

    Hi
My MacBook Pro has been running out of battery power before the memory-saving sleep mode kicks in, so it dies with a little click of the HD. It's not a hibernation state as when I reattach the power supply it boots up a new session.
I've noticed this since upgrading to Snow Leopard last year, but put it down to an old battery that had 45% charge and wasn't powering the MBP properly. I now have a replacement A1175 5600mAh battery which is giving me 2-3hrs usage (which I'm pleased at), but now it still dies before sleeping!
I have tried to cycle the new battery, but can't. I have reset the SMC several times, with no effect.
I used to cycle the battery every week or two, running it down until it would no longer wake from sleep, recharge overnight etc, but now I can't do this because it will die before sleeping!
I've read quite a few articles over the net about this issue, but there seems like no cure. It's really annoying me now as I frequently work on the move and a dying MBP could potentially be disastrous.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Is there something I haven't tried yet? I think it's a late '06 MBP.

If you are not getting a warning, then there is something amiss with your battery. If a SMC reset and calibration does not fix the problem, then you may need to make an appointment at the genius bar and arrange to have your battery tested.
My old battery started doing the same thing--shutting down without warning. I replaced it, and the replacement battery started doing the exact same thing. I then returned the replacement, and the next replacement battery behaves in a normal fashion.
My first battery was worn out. My second battery was defective. My third battery is good.
Your battery should still be under warranty. Go back to where you got it and show them what it is doing and see if you can get a replacement.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro Battery: How can I protect my battery when not using computer for a long time period 3-months ?

    Hello,
In 2014, I am expecting to be out of the states for a long period of time which is over 3 months. I am not planning of bringing my MacBook Pro with me. As a result, what would be the correct procedure for the battery in order to preserve it in the best condition when I return back and use the battery normally.
    Many thanks for your assistance!

This is the article for non-Retina systems.  Not sure what to do fro Retina units:

I would also keep it with a friend/familymember you can trust to not take it out during that time and play frisbee with it to control humidity levels and temperature and access while unattended.

  • "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" for Lenovo g530

Hey there,  I'm a complete tech numskull, so pardon me if this is incredibly naive.  I recently made an impulse buy of an off-brand "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" with the hopes of using it in a car with my Lenovo G530.  I haven't gotten it yet but after purchasing it, I noticed the power adapter that came with my Lenovo  is "AC."  Is it possible to us the DC adapter with my laptop, where my cord says "AC"?  I obviously don't want to fry my laptop and was wondering what I should look out for.  The adapter was pretty cheap, which is another red flag but it also means I won't be out much if I made a mistake in buying it (ebay purchase).
Thanks in advance for your input.
