MBP battery/charger issue

So, I've been researching this a bit and don't particularly want to drop $130 on a new battery if I can solve the problem without that. I went to my profile and this came up, the computer is plugged into a wall outlet and if it comes unplugged it only lasts about a minute and the computer shuts down.
Battery Information:
Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3530
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 3420
Amperage (mA): -1721
Voltage (mV): 11699
Cycle Count: 411
AC Charger Information:
Connected: Yes
Charging: No
Is the charger messed up or do I need a new battery? thanks!

Normal lifespan of a typical lithium battery is 400-500 cycles. Basically, your battery is old and you need to buy a replacement.

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Ipod 3rd Gen battery charge issue

I have various 3rd gen ipod's and logic boards. parts n pieces etc. here is my issue.... i recently purchased a new battery for 1 of these 3rd gen ipods to repair. when i first plugged everything in and connected usb cable ipod fired up no problems but the battery was not showing any charge. i even tested battery as it was charging with a multi meter. the voltage was slowly discharging. Now... i disconnected the battery and plugged it into a 2nd gen ipod mini and did the same thing. The battery showed a slow charge as tested with the meter. once the battery charged to full 3.7v i then put it back into the 3rd gen and powered it on only to the same effect with no battery charge indication and also a slow drain with the meter test. i've tried this on 3 or 4 different 3rd gen logic boards that i have and with the same results. I'm confused *** is goin on here. any replies please. thanks.

Just how its logic board is programmed I guess.
They make splitter cables which is a firewire and usb cable in 1, so if you have a wall charger you can charge and sync via USB at the same time.

  • IOS 6.1.2 Upgrade-  Battery Drainout, Apps Crashing, Battery Charging issue

After my iOS 6.1.2 upgrade Battery drains out very very fast and Apps Crashing on frequent basis. Called up apple but in vein... Any Workarounds here ?
Till iOS 6.1.1 it was perfectly fine.
The problem is more pathetic with the battery charging. Even though I chagre it for hours, it just drains out in the next couple of hours...

The same problem here.. its just goes on draing out and out...
I have tried several ways of downgrading it but failed..
Try contacting Apple Support in your country.... Else it seems we have no other way then to wait for the 6.1.3 upgrade..
    Anyone with any workaround ?

  • Late 2013 MBP w/Retina Battery Charging Issue since update to 10.10.2

I don't know if this is due to the update to OS X 10.10.2, or if it's just coincidence, but ever since updating, my battery has had issues charging.
When I plug into an outlet, the indicator in the menubar shows that it's plugged in, light on the power cord doesn't light up (not amber, not green, nothing) and the percentage estimate for power remaining doesn't increase at all, no matter how long I'm plugged in for.
I thought it maybe had to do with more things being plugged into the powerstrip, so I tried plugging into an directly into a wall outlet, but that was no use.
The only way to get the battery to start charging again is to restart AND zap the PRAM; clearly this isn't optimal...
Is any one experiencing this type of issue as well? Any hints or ideas as to how to fix it?
    Thank you!

  • Battery/Charger Issues (Early 2011 15" MBP)

So, over the past few weeks, I've been watching the cords for my laptop (and my iPhone) basically disintegrate (heavily frayed, cord is almost completely exposed).
The phone charger stopped working first, so I got a replacement. It isn't one of Apple's own chargers, it's from a third party, but it was working, so I didn't mind.
Anyway, I went to sleep last night with my laptop plugged in, and my phone plugged in to the laptop. I keep it by my bed, because I use it as an alarm.
(There was also another cord plugged into the laptop, charging a game controller.)
Well, when I woke up, my laptop was dead. I figured that the cord had just stopped working, so I ordered a replacement.
The strange thing is, when I press the battery indicator button on the side, nothing happens. The lights don't flash, nothing.
Also, the replacement cord for my phone seems to have stopped working as well.
I thought maybe that having too many things plugged into each other caused them to mess up, but the cord that was charging the controller is still working properly.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be? I just recently had my Macbook repaired, so obviously I don't want to have it serviced again, can't be throwing around money like that.
Also, depending on what the problem is, would I need to buy a new phone charger? (probably an Apple one...)
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

It is traditional to (1) Try Resetting the System Management Controller , then, if nothing improves,(2) take it in for testing/servicing.

  • Battery charging issues, Doesn't make sense

Hello, and thank you for reading
My situation is this. My friend sold me his old late 2009 Macbook 13". He told me he has never had any issues with charging. I have had it around 5 months now, and over that time the charger has got more and more temperamental.
It only charges when it wants to - sometimes it seems putting the plug in different sockets makes a difference, but I doubt it does.
I have cleaned out the inside best I can, performed the SMC reset several times, I even have 3 different chargers (one official that came with it that seems to work best, one un official replacement ac, and one very very old macbook pro charger.)
I have BatteryExpert app and that says everything is relatively healthy, saying it is on 599 cycles, current charge capacity is 4932 mAh out of a designed 5450.
The battery cell voltages are all at 3.73.
When I say temperamental, I MEAN IT. It stresses me out a lot. All day I have tried different sockets, chargers, extensions, nothing. While writing this I turned my laptop around to face my better and it randomly starts charging (the indicator lights seem to work fine.)
I feel I have tried everything other than taking it to the shop because 1. my nearest apple store is rather far away and 2. I am extremely broke at the moment.

  • More battery charging issues.

Like some other people around here I've been having problems with my battery on my Macbook too. Even though my power adapter shows an orange light I still get an X over the battery icon. I've tried taking out my baterry and unpluging the adapter and holding down the power button and I've tried commandoption+pr at startup and neither have worked. So my battery refuses to charge and is so low I can't have my macbook unplugged for more than 5 minutes without it shutting down. I didn't start experiencing this problem until after I'd had my Macbook for a month or so, so I can't figure out what could be wrong. I took the computer to an Apple Store about two months ago for another problem (I went to restart my computer and it wouldn't fully restart) they rebooted and archived my system (I think that's how you'd say it) and the battery problem seemed to be fixed after that but then it started doing it again after like a week.
    Help, what should I do?

I have been having the same issue, and tried the same things you did. Ultimately, I found out quite by accident that if I unplug the adapter, shut off and then turn on MacBook, the adapter works properly & the battery icon shows correct info.
My question: Since this happens regularly enough to be very inconvenient, is there a fix to remedy the problem??

  • HP dv7-1135nr Battery/Charging Issue

The battery light flashes with computer turned off and plugged into power outlet.  How can I tell if the charging circuit is working. The battery is dead but don't want to replace unless I can confirm that the charging circuit is working.  The computer powers up and works okay when plugged into 102 vac power outlet.

You can run the HP Battery Health check to check if there is any issue with the battery.

  • Yet another 3G battery charge issue/question

    All...
Lately my iPhone 3G is draining it's battery much quicker than it had previously. It will not last a full day. Even with no Safari, games, music, etc. Also, when I charge it, it gets hot, more than usual.
Not sure, but I think this all started when I let the battery completely drain. I partially charged then the battery completely drained again.
I've reset shut the phone off then back on with no improvement. I've had the phone for less than a year. Apple replaced my 1st 3G with this phone due to another issue.
I'm going to let the battery completely drain then will completely charge to see if that helps. Otherwise, any ideas?

I am having the same problem. It barely makes it through 12 hours now, when previously I was used to about 36 hours. It has only started doing it recently, but I'm not entirely sure what I've done to provoke it.
Have seen similar issues in other threads, with people suggesting restoring/updating etc. I am yet to try this so will give it a go, but not convinced it will help.

  • Power button stuck? Battery charging issues

I have an ipad 1 and a couple of weeks ago, the power button stopped working. I can no longer lock screen or power off. The thing is that since that day, the power off slider keeps flashing on and off, even when using the ipad. It is especially annoying if i am watching something. When i try to power off using the slider the ipad just comes straight back on and continues to flicker.
After getting somewhat used to this issue, the battery completely went and so i plugged it in as normal and left it there for a few hours. When i went to check on it, the ipad had not charged up even one little bit. I have tried multiple outlets and even purchaced a new adapter and lead for it. This is highly frustraiting as i cant even try and power it on due to the button problem and when i do a reset nothing happens.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thankyou

If underwarranty make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store for service under the warranty.  You can alos go ther without warranty coverage but if the iPod is devective yu will have to pay for a replacement iPOd ($99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity)

  • Powerbook G3 Battery Charging Issues

    Hi All,
My Powerbook G3 (with a new Newer Technologies battery) is not charging correctly. It charged at 100 percent for the first 2-3 cycles and has been falling steadily since. Now it won't charge past 28 percent. Thinking it was a battery issue, Newer has replaced it three times since January. What could be wrong?
    Chris

    Kathy,
Possibly a few of these comments and suggestions will help...
    - You have the Powerbook G3 Series M4753 a.k.a. "Wallstreet".
    - If the lithium ion battery is several years old or even the original, it may be shot. Normal life span of these batteries is approximately 3 years.
    - When you press the little button on the battery, do any of the LEDs light up?
    - Since the Wallstreet is apparently running off the power adapter, do you see a lightning bolt in the menu bar or one in the Control Strip at the bottom of the screen? This would at least indicate the charging system is functioning.
    - If you see no lightning bolt, shut down the computer, then reset the power manager:
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Simultaneously press Shift-Fn (function)-Ctrl (control)-Power.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the PowerBook computer.
If the power manager was properly reset, you will see a brief flash of the sleep light and hear a brief runup of the fan.

  • MBP Battery Charging Strategy

    Hi,
I'm a college student and I just got a new MBP. I'm planning on using this computer for as many of my 4 years at college as I can, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to maintain my battery capacity. I will be using the laptop as my primary computer, so whenever it's in my dorm, it will be plugged in and running on AC at all times. When I have to go to class, I will sleep the laptop, wake it up in class, and then sleep it again, and take it back to my dorm room and plug it in again to charge.
My question is this: A "charge cycle," if I understand it correctly, is just one "charge"-worth of battery, right? For instance, say I get 2 hours on a full charge. If my class is only 50 minutes and I only use the laptop for 50 minutes of my 2 hours and then take it back and charge it fully, I have another 70 minutes left in that "charge cycle," right?
In other words...it's not beneficial to use my laptop unplugged in class and then WAIT until the battery goes all the way down to recharge it, right? As long as I have AC power I should use it (there's no memory effect or anything?)
I know about "cycling" the battery about once a month. I am doing that now as the computer is new and will do that monthly.
    Thanks!

Bought MBP last week and full charge capacity was 5300. Did battery calib 2 days ago and noted that now full charge is only 5038.

  • MacBook Pro Battery/Charging Issues

I have an early 2008 15'' MBP with 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2gb of RAM that I bought in August of 2008.
In late 2011, I bought a brand new battery for it because the battery would only last for around an hour.  For a month or so, the new battery worked fine, but then I started to see that it said "not charging".  I took it to the store and they replaced the battery because it was still within warranty.  Again, the computer worked for a month or so, but again has started saying "not charging" again.  At this point, I'm not sure what to do.  Unless by a fluke I have two bad batteries in a row, it seems as though the computer might be the problem.  Thoughts?
    Also, FYI:
-I've reset the SMC and that did nothing
-I cleaned out both the mag safe area and the connector area on the battery
-I've tried shoving the battery in harder
-I'm not sure if this is relevant, but in 2010, Apple took it and repaired something on the logic board (i think).  I can't remember what exacly they did, but they did tell me that whatever they fixed was a known problem with my model.
    -The charger is brand new
Thanks in advance for the help!!

Don't be bashful, go to the Apple store with your receipt and have the battery checked out.  You may very well have won/lost the bad battery lottery.
