MBP battery lasts about 30 minutes on full charge

Now I'm not the greatest with computers, especially not Macs. I got my MBP about a year and a half ago and I keep it plugged in all the time. On a full charge, I normally get about 20-30 minutes when it is not plugged in. My battery indicator in the menu bar doesn't even warn me. It will tell me I am at 85% and then it shuts down with no warning. Is there something I did wrong or can do to fix this? Thanks!

If you have applecare, you might qualify for a new battery. Also check your serial number against the recall list https://support.apple.com/macbookpro15/batteryexchange/
However, if I remember right, it is a good idea to "exercise" the battery about once a week. Let it run down most of the way. Also, you should calibrate the battery once a month. To calibrate the battery--and I believe Applecare will force you to do this before they are willing to replace the battery (unless it was on the recall list)--make sure the battery has been fully charged for at least 2 hours, then unplug the computer and let the battery run down until it shuts down, then wait 6 hours, then plug the computer back in and let it charge all the way.

  • My iPhone 4 is only 14 months old over dropped very well looke after, one day the lock button stops then the volume buttons, now the headphone port does not work and the battery lasts about 4 hours after full charge I still have a year left on my contract

My phone is 2 months out of warranty, it's never been dropped or miss used yet the past week every day something has gone wrong with it. First the lock button stopped then the side volume buttons. Then the head phone port when I putt headphones in the phone turns the volume
Down automatically and it won't turn up until I take my headphones back out. The battery lasts 4 hours max after a full charge and today I took my phone off the docking charger and all my music has gone! The phone is breaking down more and more everyday what is going on! I know people who have had there iPhones years an non of this happen! I still have a year left on my contract too!

Who is your carrier and what is your coverage with them? If you are with say Verizon, and have Total Equipment Coverage or Extended Coverage, they will swap it out for you under Manufacturer Warrantee.

  • My iPhone 3GS battery lasts about 30 minutes

What can I do about my iPhone GS battery?  I went to Apple store & they told me to remove & then update the software.  I did.  Now it's even worse!  Help!

The Genius Bar has the ability to do battery diagnostics.  Bring the phone in and have them do it.  If the batter cannot hold 50% of it's original capacity, it will be replaced free if still under  warranty, if not then you can pay for the batter change.

  • I bought my iPhone 5 almost an year ago and since the last 2 weeks my battery lasts about 2 hours or less, while before it lastre a whole day. Can anybody tell me why is this happening or how can i solve my problem, please? Thank you.

You can follow these steps to save battery.
    1. Turn on Auto-Brightness - The iPhone has an ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the screen based on the light around it (darker in dark places, brighter when there's more ambient light) to both save battery and make it easier to see. Turn Auto-Brightness on and you’ll save battery because your screen will need to use less power in dark places.
Find it in the Settings app -> Brightness & Wallpaper -> Auto-Brightness On
    2. Reduce Screen Brightness -the brighter the default setting for the screen, the more battery it requires. Keep the screen dimmer to conserve more of your battery.
Find it in Settings -> Brightness & Wallpaper
    3. Stop Motion (iOS 7) -It's really cool, but it also drains battery. You may want to leave it on to enjoy the effect, but if not, turn it off this way:
Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion -> move slider to green/on
    4. Turn Bluetooth Off-  Turn off Bluetooth except when you’re using it to squeeze more juice from your battery.
Find it in Settings -> Bluetooth -> Move Slider to Off
    5. Turn Off Location Services -
This allows your phone to know where you are and give you exact driving directions, give that information to apps that help you find restaurants, and more. But, like any service that sends data over a network, it needs battery power to work. If you’re not using Location Services, and don’t plan to right away, turn them off and save some power.
Find it in Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Slide to Off
    6. Don't Automatically Update Apps (iOS 7)-
If you've got iOS 7, you can forget needing to update your apps by hand. There's now a feature that automatically updates them for you when new versions are released. Convenient, but also a drain on your battery. To only update apps when you want to, and thus manage your battery better:
Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Updates -> move slider to off/white
    7. Auto-Lock Sooner -
You can set your iPhone to automatically go to sleep – a feature known as Auto-Lock - after a certain amount of time. The sooner it sleeps, the less power is used to run the screen or other services. Try setting Auto-Lock to 1 or 2 minutes.
Find it in Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock -> Tap your Preference
Few more things that would consume battery even when not is use are the applications that run in background.
Follow the below steps to quit all running applications.
    1) Double tap on the home button on the iPhone ( this will display all apps that are running in the back ground).
    2) Just click on the tiny red X to quit application ( if iPhone is running on iOS 6 and below) else just swipe yhour finger over the running app upwards to quit ( if running on iOS7).

  • I recently bought 13" mbp 2012 and I noticed that I only got 2HRS max and the only thing Im doing is watch movies on VLC and surf the net. How long does you mbp battery last?

I recently bought 13" mbp 2012 and I noticed that I only got 2HRS max and the only thing Im doing is watch movies on VLC and surf the net. How long does you mbp battery last?

That listed 7 hours is with very limited use. Low screen brightness, low keyboard backlight, No WiFi or bluetooth.
Most I have ever gotten from my 15" 2011 model is around 5-6 hours and that was with very light use. Just Web, Chrome, and email, thunderbird, and Wifi.

  • Does allowing the Battery to drain to 0% depletes full charge capacity?

I bought a Macbook pro 17-in intel core 2 duo 2.4Ghz from the Phiippines on July 10, 2007 and brought it to Ireland couple of days after. Later, I upgraded to leopard 10.5.2 with 4 Gig memory. Auto updates have been installed since its first use. The only problem I encountered (except for some Safari quitting unexpedtedly) was in the battery.
Here is the record of my MBP battery use:
    Battery information
Battery : MBP 17in Rechargeable Battery
    Model: A1189 10.18V 68Wh
    Serial: 6 _ _ _ _ _ DVYF1A
    My Battery practice:
    - I wait for 5% remaining charge before I plug the charger
    - At several occasions I forgot to plug the charger before remaining charge goes to 0%
    - I usually unplug the wall charger as soon as full charge is indicated.
    - I sometimes leave the wall charger plugged for several hours after green light shows.
    - I use my MBP for an average of 12 - 14 hours a day. At times I dont shut it down and just allow it to go to sleep mode.
    - Calibrated about 10 times.
    Record of Battery Life/Charging
Battery Cycle Life (based on istatpro) Full Charge Capacity (based on MBP)
    1 100% No Record
    62 100% 6492 mAh
    66 100% 6484 mAh
    100 100% 6484 mAh
    300 98% 6213 mAh
    301-317 95-99% 5850 - 6109 mAh
    318 83% 5254 mAh
318 (at 3908mAh or 53% remaining charge MBP suddenly shuts down)
318 (MBP shuts down if wall charger is unplugged) Tried calibrating and resetting SMC but did not work.
I then checked if my MBP is still covered by the one-year warranty despite more than 300 battery cycles, no bulges present at apple website https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do (here you have to enter your MBP serial number)
I brought my MBP for check up here in Dublin, Ireland and indeed the problem was the battery. They replaced my battery with a new one without cost.
Thanks Apple my new battery now has a Battery Health of 100% with the following initial cycle records:
    Battery Cycle Full Charge Capacity
1 (33% remaining charge as soon as I received it) 6810 mAh
1 (I then used the remaining charge up to 1%) 6726 mAh
    1 (full charged) 6810 mAh
1 (full charged) I let it rest for few hours then checked 6879 mAh
    2 (full charged) 6879 mAh
    3 (full charged) 6876 mAh
    4 (full charged) 6830 mAh
    5 (full charged) 6845 mAh
5 (full charged) I let it rest for 1 hour then checked 6868 mAh
    6 (3% remaining charge) 6829 mAh
I forgot to plug the charger (battery drained to 0%) 6492 mAh
Notice the sudden drop of full charge capacity in cycle 6? How do I recover the lost charge capacity? Does letting the battery drain to 0% depletes its full charge capacity?

The short answer is that yes, completely draining the battery has a slight negative impact on full charge capacity. The full charge capacity does fluctuate a bit over time, but the general trend is downward no matter what you do - there's a continuous chemical reaction occurring in the battery, with a finite life.
However, I note that you state +I wait for 5% remaining charge before I plug the charger+; if you are doing this because that is what you need to do, i.e. you do most of your work away from a power source, fine. But, if you are doing that because you believe that's best for your battery, that is incorrect. The 'old' NiCd batteries performed best with full discharge and full charge. The 'newer' Li-based batteries do not have this requirement, and in fact perform better over time when used frequently but 'lightly', avoiding full discharges (except for the occasional battery calibration, which allows the OS to more accurately determine the time to charge and discharge).

  • Why does my MacBook Pro's battery only lasting about 30 minutes since upgrading to OS 10.8?

I had absolutely no battery issues with my new MacBook Pro 15 inch until I upgraded to the new OS Mountain Lion. Now, my laptop is hot—CPU Heatsink, 135 degrees, and enclosure base 93-95 degrees. Additionally, the battery now only lasts about 30-45 minutes on a full charge due to the fans running from 2000 to 3500 RPMs. Someone else have the same issues?

Is the 135 degrees Celsius?  If so, that is very hot indeed.  Fans always run at a minimum of 2000 RPM. At this temp, fans should be running at something like 6000 RPM!  Something is heating up your computer.  In Activity Monitor, with "All Processes" selected, which processes are using the most CPU, and how much are they using?
If the temperature is in Farenheit, this is not so very hot and the problem with your battery is elsewhere.
Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller ... ?

  • MBP Battery Dies Within 5 minutes!

    Hi All,
I have a Intel C2D 2.2 MBP. By chance one day, it went dead whilst using battery only after a few minutes. This happened a few times so I did the battery recycle thing a few times but the problem still exists. Every-time I try to run from batter only, within les than 5 minutes, the battery gives up and my MBP shuts off. the Battery indicator however always shows full/100%. The battery information shows:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 65336
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 65336
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 11951
    Cycle Count: 56
Also, I never get any low battery warning before it just shuts off! Why is this happening and what can I do to rectify it?
    Many Thanks,
    Suave!

Suffering with the same battery issues here.
Apple replaced this battery under warranty last april after the original battery
failed with the same issue and now... here we go again.
    System Profiler also indicates:
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 65337
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 65337
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12300
Cycle Count: 14 <--- Gone bad after only 14 Cycles?
I had the original batery replaced at the apple store, unfortunately it appears the replacement was also defective.

  • Updated ipad 2 now battery last about an hour?.

Can I download an older version of ios? this new one is a battery vampire. With no new apps and all apps closed in background ipad now barely last over an hour compared to 5-6 before. if you surf the web you can watch the battery drain around a percent per min. Anything i can do?

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • Presario CQ42 275 TX - White-Q red-screen startup lasts about a minute

My colleague has the same laptop, but the red startup screen just takes about 3 seconds.
Please tell me how to shorten this startup time for my laptop from about a minute to about 3-5 seconds.
    Thank you.
(My laptop uses Windows 7 Professional.)

Some bad device driver or a bad device is causing the slow start time. Do you maybe have a memory card in the reader? Have you added any hardware to it? Do a full hard drive scan in the BIOS console. Check the Device Manager and see if there are any driver issues.

  • Battery, mac book pro, last night i had a full charge and woke up to a red light at 93%

my battery has been replaced once, seems to be fine, until just recently, at my cabin out of phone service area, charged my laptop to 100, and in the morning it was at 90% usually stays plugged in with a full charge all the time, checked power in system info battery says normal, does it sound like natural battery wear??????? replaved the battery 2 years ago........ any thoughts would help,,,, OCD geeez, jason

It's normal. The battery will charge to 100% and then stop charging, until its charge state reaches several percent less, after which it will charge again.
This is an intentional design consideration, to maximize your battery's longevity.
im also in an area where my phone drains quickly as its looking for service, comes in and out, airplane mode fixed that
Are you asking about your MacBook Pro, or an iPhone? The answer is the same in either case, but an iPhone will consume more power in an area of weak cell service.

  • Thinkpad Twist S230U - Battery Issue (Only 1 hour on full charge)

    Hello all,
I'm desperate here. I purchased my Twist from eBay and from that time I've had a battery issue. I was only getting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes off a full charge before it died.
I mostly just tolerated it and had to keep close to an outlet as I assumed the battery was just bad.
In the last week I decided to do someting about it and bought a replacement battery, opened up my laptop, and replaced the old battery with the new one.
Hopeful that my problem had now been remedied, you can imagine my disappointment when the issue was even slightly worse. Now I get an estimated 1:06 on a full charge.
I installed BatteryBar and it tells me "Capacity: 13,870 mWh of 14,060 mWh" and "Battery Wear: 66.9% of 42,480 mHw".
I'm running Windows 8.1. I've replaced the original hard drive with an SSD. I've installed the "Lenovo Settings Dependency Program" and "Lenovo Power Management Driver". I've tried changing power settings. Nothing works.
A one hour battery life is just miserable. Can anyone provide some insight as to what may be done? I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks for the response!
It seems that with Windows 8 there is not a "battery gauge reset" feature included with the Power Manager as there is in other versions of Windows.
Right now I'm trying what is considered a "manual reset" that I read about online. The battery was charged to 100%, now I'm allowing it to drain completely, and then I'll plug it back in and allow it to charge fully.
Is this an appropriate method to reset the battery gauge, or should I be doing something else?
    Thank you.

  • HT201401 My iPhone 4S with iOS 6 is draining battery in large chunks and after full charge drops to 1% within 15 mins why

I am so frustrated right now as I have to have my iPhone constantly on charge.  After full charge it can drop from 100% to 1% in 15 minutes even when not it use.  It often die whilst displaying 35% and will only come back on after charging which shows it in red zone empty needing charge.  The red battery pic can remain for over an hour before it regains any life!
Any suggestions done all the usual
    Reset
    Removed email accounts
    Killed off open apps
Turned off battery draining things like Siri etc
    Phone is 1 year old
Help as I can't afford a new one and need this for business too

    My observation are:
    Pros:
    4. Notificaion now use any address while position is used, not only address book.
    5. Great DND mode with auto swithcing.
    6. MUCH more faster Safari work.
    7. Great and funny way to reload messages in mailbox.
    8. Separate footer for each mailbox -GREAT!
    Cons:
    1. WiFi - works as it was.
    2. Apple map. I think it's good that google went out. Apple will develope own service and it will be better. For the moment I found Apple map less usefull, but it knows the way between Russia and Finland when Google doesn't.
    3. No overheat observed... Today I was thinking that iPhone became hot, but it was on sunsine...
    4. As it was 100% at evening - 100% at morning so it is now the same. While usage also the same.
    5. Yes, I'm also don't know what is this for..
    6. So what? I don't care.
    7. Appstore became MUCH better!
