MBP C2D 2,16 GHz instantly shutdown when unplugged

Morning.
Since today my MBP C2D instantly shutdowns after appr. 2 sec when the power adapter becomes unplugged. If I only unplug the MBP for less then 2 seconds it remains working.
And without power adapter it's not possible to start the the MBP. When I press the on/off button, it clicks, the fans and the HDD begin to race but after less than a second it shutdowns.
I've tried three PRAM resets and three SCM resets without fixing the issue.
What's wrong? What can I do to fix my MBP?

The only thing that strikes me is that you have all zeros in the Pack Lot code, the Firmware Version, the Hardware Revision,and the Cell Revision, where mine has numbers. I don't know if this is even significant, since my battery is for a 17" machine and is I think a later model.
I am wondering if there is a mechanical problem with the connection between your battery and your MBP--maybe a bent pin or something so that the battery is not engaging properly. The connection might be good enough for the System Profiler to recognize the battery, but maybe not good enough for the battery to run the computer.
Inspect the pins on both the Mac and the battery, and see if you can see what the problem is. If nothing is obvious to you, you might want to have a trained professional take a look, like either at an Apple Store or an AASP.

My HP mini 110-3000 acts up recently.
It randomly shuts down.
Only when unplugged. (On battery)
No error message shown.
This happens when battery power is around 60%
It's definetly not thermal, the netbook lasts forever when plugged in. (unless running on battery makes it hotter ???)
But it doesn't feel any hotter. It's just warm to the touch, normal.
I also did the battery test as suggested, says that everything is fine.
Worked fine just a month ago.
The battery would drain normally, with warning message around 12% then sleep around 9%.
Now, it shuts down around 60%.
It was bought less than 19 months ago... I would expect something a longer lifetime.
Any hint would help.

19 months is on the short side but in the range of normal battery longevity. Given your description it is extemely unlikely to be anything other than it just needs a new battery.

Forced Shutdown when unplugging

Hi, sometimes when i unplug my wireless USB reciever, the screen goes grey and tells me that i need to turn off the computer by holding the power button. how do i fix this? thanks

I think I get the main idea of your question. You have a LabVIEW installer (executable + run time engine (RTE)) that you want to install while other exes are using that run time engine. However, when you try to run your installer, you have to shut down all of your exes using the RTE. Something you could try is not including the RTE in the installer. In effect, you'll only be copying an exe to the computer and the RTE isn't even touched. So the problem should be solved by leaving out the RTE. Post to let us know if that works out for you. Thanks!

Bad routers w/MBP C2D

OK, the other thread related to this topic:

So I am starting this new thread, as well as a thread of GOOD routers that work ok. When posting, only post your router that IS NOT working with the Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo via wireless, and it's model number. NOTHING ELSE!

I will start with the first reply...

Apple airport extreme base station 5.7 and airport express 6.3, WPA2 personal, randomly drop connections and fluctuate signal strength (15-5 bars).
My first mbp c2d which I shipped back and a new replacement mbp c2d (pure apple software out of the box osX 10.4.8 + 2006-007 patch, no 3rd party, no data transfered from an old pbG4) randomly drop connections (can easily re-establish, thou) and the signal strength fluctuates between 15 and 5 bars, which cuts the average download speed by 50% (e.g. 4Mbit/s)compared with an old pbG4 which (on the same network) never drops connections and is on average faster (10 Mbit/s ) when close (~3 yards) to AEBS or AE.
In a larger distance (~45 feet) from AEBS the mbp c2d has better signal and download speed than pbG4.

MBP C2D Battery Issue (Please Need Information)

I recently bought a MBP C2D 2.16 Ghz 1gb RAM
ive read all stuff about the battery problemas mbp's have presented.
I have my mac about 3 weeks ago.
Until now battery seems to work well, and i haven't had any problem at all...
The only thing that worries me is that in what ive read it says the battery may present problems if cycles are under 300...
Mine has cycles of 30... What does that mean ?
Should I worry, should i ask for a replacement ?

Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms:
* Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
* Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
* Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
These symptoms
31 Charge cycles with Full charge capacity : 5323 is more than ok buddy. Better than my battery.

Describe WORKING mbp c2d airport internet connection with stable signal

As I read many reports about problems in different configurations and after 2 weeks was not able to find a working solution for myself yet, may I ask users who do have a working and stable airport internet configuration to describe it in this thread? Only WORKING configurations please.

I replaced my 4 years old airport extreme base station (AEBS, newest firmware v5.7) with the netgear WPN824 router and my mbp c2d wireless internet access problems are resolved. 802.11g only, WPA2-PSK. I see a steady strong signal on my mbp c2d (11-15 bars) and download speeds in the range 10-15Mbit/s. Also my older pb G4 and dell c2d have a quick steady wireless connection to the WPN824.
With AEBS my mbp c2d signal varied between 0-15 bars (occasionally dropped connection) and the download speeds on the mbp c2d were in the range 3-14 Mbit/s, but on average 50% slower than with the WPN824.

Help deciding between 13.3 MBP 2010 2.66 GHz C2D vs 13.3 MBP 2011 2.3GHz i5

What I need:
* Most intensive stuff would be using photoshop and or primier once in a while.
What I like about the new MBP 2011:
* i5 outperforms C2D when it comes to video encoding, filter processing, etc.
What really concerns me about MBP 2011:
* Persistent heating issue complains.
* 320M being better than HD 3000 for image processing/editing.
While performace matters, so does the longevetiy of the laptop. With so many heating issues, will MBP 2011 be a good buy, so should I stick with the tested and proven MBP 2010?

Thanks for your input. The price is not really that much of a factor since a refurb 2010 model is almost the same price as the new 13.3 i5 MBP. I agree that performance generates heat, but lots of discussion here has been on consistent kicking in of fans in the newer model which generally seems to be running hot even with less intensive usage. Anyone with the newer model and lion can shine some light on if the issue has been fixed with the newer updates?Thanks!

MBP's just run vicious hot. i have woken up too many nights with mine burning my crotch. has to be some long term effects from that... you need to just manage the problem by keeping it raised on a cooling platform. i have gone as far as filling a ziplock baggie with crushed ice, and running the machine on the ice pack. best to be sure there is air that can pass below the machine when operating.

Temperature-related startup failure in MBP C2D

My MBP C2D fails at startup when rebooting after normal use (means web surfing and playing music with iTunes) and temperatures in my MBP's CPU cores have been ~50C or more by Temperature Monitor.
At startup DVD-drive makes it's normal eject sound, but then nothing, screen stays black. There is no startup sound or gray screen. I need to shutdown computer, let it cool down and after that it will start again.
Hardware test doesn't find anything and reseting PMU, PRAM or SMC doesn't help.
Problem seems to be temperature-related. Solutions?

Sorry for posting a not-so-helpful reply, but I think perhaps there is something wrong with the temperature sensor(s). The processor should shutdown only when the upper temperature threshold is exceeded. I suppose the hardware test cannot be run when the machine is still "hot"? I would call AppleCare...

PB AL 15 to MBP C2D not going well

Tried using Migration Assistant but old PB G4 Al 15" 1.33Ghz always froze as Target Disk on any transfer over 5GB (all that mattered). So moved stuff manually, so no big wonder I'm hosed now.
Please spare me the "wipe it and start over" stuff, installing all the apps & pwd's from scratch will be last resort only, and I manage >60 G4 & G5 Macs at work that will soon migrate to Intel so I need to know how to fix things.
So new MBP 15.4" 2.33Ghz is fine except for:
1. MBP goes online fine at work (web, POP mail, whatever) but typing 1 character into any text field like Google or banks or anything freezes Safari instantly with BBOD. Firefox is fine. Unable to re-install any Java software update or 10.4.8 combo update
2. At home old PB & MBP will connect to Belkin FD7230-4 wire & 802.11g gateway router fine (wireless or wired), can ARD & fileshare fine between them, Network pref's show "connected to network 'xyzap'. ..connected to Internet via Airport (or Ethernet, or both)" but the new MBP can only get RSS feeds (with Safari but NOTHING with Firefox, web sites get "ur not connected 2 internet" [Safari] and "Server not found" [Firefox] nor POP mail for that matter, haven't tried FTP yet..)
x. Why does Migration Assistant fail with target locking up? Tried DU & DW repairs, no luck. On manual moves there were a few files that would kill transfers with "can't read or write" type errors, moving them separately by themselves or deleting got past that.

Not much attitude about m&a (migration assistant?), but about these forums, I never get any help here.
On about the 5th wipe and install try used ma after install instead of during (not the 1st time trying that way) and it left a log file on desktop (never did b4) which pointed to the mail.app files that were the culprits, deleted them, wiped & installed again and success moving 1 home directory.
That said it seems clear from posts elsewhere that there are issues with "can't read or write" issues. The G4 PB had no problem with the files in question.
And as to internet connections, also obvious from posts elswhere that there r issues with MBP C2D's and wireless gateway routers (NetGear, Linksys, D-link & Belkin (I have Belkin F5D7230-4US8.01.07, what a POS, worked with a couple all day at work trying to set up WDS / bridging, when their "tech support" hung up on me in 1st 5 seconds with 2nd level guy I threw 'em back to wally world). Dug a bit deeper tonight, plugged the MBP straight into cox cable modem again, no luck again UNTIL reboot cable modem then joy.
So reran AirPortUpdate2006002.dmg but no joy. kaka. So anyway gonna mark this 1 done and post over at "Getting Online & Networking" to see if the help there is any better.

MBP C2D - Problems burning Double Layer Discs

I encounter massive problems when trying to burn DVD+R DL Discs. The MBP C2Ds internal drive is supposed to burn DL media but the only way to burn them is under win xp using my external philips ED16DVDS usb2 burner. Nero produces coasters using the internal matshita burner.
Under Mac OS Toast as well as Mac OS X give me error messages before starting to burn.
The Media I use is called intenso DVD+R double layer. Intenso media has worked exceptionally well for my needs over the last years. This is no cheap stuff.
I am thankful for any suggestions.

After using my new Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 for a few days, randomly after opening the lid while Macbook has been sleeping the display will not come on, no illumination whatsoever. The hard drive is spinning.
The only recourse I have found so far is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power button.
any known solutions?

No, my laptop is treated like a desktop replacement, so it doesn't move. And no peripherals connected.
Hope Apple has corrected the logic board problem by now, though anything is possible as my Macbook is the first production run of the Core 2 Duo.
Will try booting from install disk and repair permissions. Hopefully this is it. (Migration Utility failed miserably when i tried to copy over my user files from my old Powerbook 800. While it said it was doing the copy of my documents etc., it failed to copy any of them across. Migration Assistant even said it was successful.)

Comparison of 15" MBP i7 to 15" MBP C2D

Greetings, Just set up my new 15" MBP i7 2.3 Ghz; 8gb RAM and 500gb 7200 rpm hard drive. Replacing my 2 year old 15" Core 2 Duo (C2D) 3.06Ghz with 8gb RAM and 500 gb 7200 rpm HD.
After seeing all of the bench mark test I was thinking the new machine with it's Quad Core technology was going to smoke my two year old C2D. Results so far: not so much...
They both load apps about the same speed which I assumed as that has more to do with the hard drive speed than most anything else. So far I'm shocked at how well the C2D, as outdated as it is, is holding up. In test with Aperture, the i7 is a bit quicker loading large pics and utilizing third party apps like Nik software, but not by much. Granted, I'm just starting to play around and these aren't scientific test, but I'm hoping I'll see some better results when I really get into editing large files in Photoshop, or dealing with video.
However, if you have a high end C2D take heart...you're still in the game!

My Core 2 Duo Mac is the first computer I've ever had that I managed to use all the CPU power, and that's only because it's the first computer I've ever had that was capable of Handbraking and BOINCing. Real world, the CPU is almost always overspecced, there is never quite enough RAM, but the hard drive is the real bottleneck.
