Mbp c2d not closing as snug as it should be??

this is my first mbp and it's a c2d. i used to have a pbook g4 and it does not close very well -- there was a small gap when it locked shut..that didn't bother me very much though.
i've been reading that apple fixed this 'gap' in the new mbp's earlier this year. was this the case?
do any other c2d mbp owners have a small 'gap' when their mbp is completely shut?

The gap in discussion differs from person to person, and their perspective. Months ago i read some threads where the gap was uneven and significant which would be an eyesore. There is a small even gap on mine too however that doesn't bother me as a very snug fit would definitely damage the screen through the imprint of the keyboard. I would rather have an even gap on each side than a damaged screen. Regards

  • PB AL 15 to MBP C2D not going well

Tried using Migration Assistant but old PB G4 Al 15" 1.33Ghz always froze as Target Disk on any transfer over 5GB (all that mattered). So moved stuff manually, so no big wonder I'm hosed now.
Please spare me the "wipe it and start over" stuff, installing all the apps & pwd's from scratch will be last resort only, and I manage >60 G4 & G5 Macs at work that will soon migrate to Intel so I need to know how to fix things.
So new MBP 15.4" 2.33Ghz is fine except for:
    1. MBP goes online fine at work (web, POP mail, whatever) but typing 1 character into any text field like Google or banks or anything freezes Safari instantly with BBOD. Firefox is fine. Unable to re-install any Java software update or 10.4.8 combo update
    2. At home old PB & MBP will connect to Belkin FD7230-4 wire & 802.11g gateway router fine (wireless or wired), can ARD & fileshare fine between them, Network pref's show "connected to network 'xyzap'. ..connected to Internet via Airport (or Ethernet, or both)" but the new MBP can only get RSS feeds (with Safari but NOTHING with Firefox, web sites get "ur not connected 2 internet" [Safari] and "Server not found" [Firefox] nor POP mail for that matter, haven't tried FTP yet..)
    x. Why does Migration Assistant fail with target locking up? Tried DU & DW repairs, no luck. On manual moves there were a few files that would kill transfers with "can't read or write" type errors, moving them separately by themselves or deleting got past that.
*** does this tell us? Need some help here.
    Thx, dh

Not much attitude about m&a (migration assistant?), but about these forums, I never get any help here.
On about the 5th wipe and install try used ma after install instead of during (not the 1st time trying that way) and it left a log file on desktop (never did b4) which pointed to the mail.app files that were the culprits, deleted them, wiped & installed again and success moving 1 home directory.
That said it seems clear from posts elsewhere that there are issues with "can't read or write" issues. The G4 PB had no problem with the files in question.
And as to internet connections, also obvious from posts elswhere that there r issues with MBP C2D's and wireless gateway routers (NetGear, Linksys, D-link & Belkin (I have Belkin F5D7230-4US8.01.07, what a POS, worked with a couple all day at work trying to set up WDS / bridging, when their "tech support" hung up on me in 1st 5 seconds with 2nd level guy I threw 'em back to wally world). Dug a bit deeper tonight, plugged the MBP straight into cox cable modem again, no luck again UNTIL reboot cable modem then joy.
So reran AirPortUpdate2006002.dmg but no joy. kaka. So anyway gonna mark this 1 done and post over at "Getting Online & Networking" to see if the help there is any better.

  • Macbook pro not turning on after SMC reset. I have the following problem. Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011does not sleep when closing the screen. smc due loud fan and an X on battery symbol

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo

  • MBP C2D -- display not coming on after sleep, hd is spinning, hard reset re

    HI,
After using my new Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 for a few days, randomly after opening the lid while Macbook has been sleeping the display will not come on, no illumination whatsoever. The hard drive is spinning.
The only recourse I have found so far is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power button.
    any known solutions?
    MBP C2D 2.33 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No, my laptop is treated like a desktop replacement, so it doesn't move. And no peripherals connected.
Hope Apple has corrected the logic board problem by now, though anything is possible as my Macbook is the first production run of the Core 2 Duo.
Will try booting from install disk and repair permissions. Hopefully this is it. (Migration Utility failed miserably when i tried to copy over my user files from my old Powerbook 800. While it said it was doing the copy of my documents etc., it failed to copy any of them across. Migration Assistant even said it was successful.)
    Thank you

  • MBP does not wake after closing lid

MBP does not wake a when I open the lid,

    I have the same problem.
In Leopard I could hit esc a couple of times and it would restore the display. In Lion no matter what I try nothing works except a total power down and reboot.
I can hear the hard drive searching around but no screen.

  • MBP not closing applications upon shutdown

I was very happy with Lion, until I noticed that my applications are not closed on shutdown. When my computer restarts every application that I do not force quit prior to shutdown opens.
    Any help would be appreciated.

This is not a bug, it is a feature !  From Apple's description of Lion:
Now apps you close will reopen right where you left off, so you never have to start from scratch again. And when you install software updates, you no longer need to save your work, close your apps, and spend valuable time setting everything up again. With Resume, you can restart your Mac and return to what you were doing — with all your apps in the places where you left them.
In the System Preferences --> General pane, there is an option you can unclick that says "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".  That may help.

  • 15" MBP C2D reboots on lid close

Well, it's happend twice in the last 24 hours. I unplug the new 15 MBP C2D. I close the lid. <Dong> The laptop immediately reboots with the lid shut. Not sure if it is a hard reboot or soft, as I haven't had any applications with unsaved work lost -yet-....
The battery seems to be fine and hold a charge well. This reboot thing doesn't happen every time, but now I'm about 2 for 15 in spontaneous reboots after lid closure. (2 for 3 in the last 24 hours).
Anybody else having this problem? I've got the 160GB upgrade and have BootCamp installed.
    -Andrew Hires

It happened once to me - this morning. I was using my MBP C2D while travelling to work, shut the lid, packed it in my rucksack, and when I woke it up from sleep at work I noticed that it had gone asleep at the end of the boot process (just before the login window shows up). The log confirms that it actually rebooted some time after I closed the lid, and that it had not finished writing the "sleepimage" file (This is from /var/log/syslog, please check what your own machine was doing when it rebooted!):
    Nov 15 08:23:32 gazonk kernel[0]: Opened file /var/vm/sleepimage, size 214748364

    Nov 15 08:24:11 localhost kernel[0]: 64 bit mode enabled
I'm also pretty sure that this machine uses a little more time waking up from sleep than any of my previous mac laptops - anyone noticed this?
Btw: I'm not sure I really want this hibernate thing. I think I'd prefer the machine going to sleep real fast. Anyone know how to turn off the hibernate functionality?

  • MBP C2D + Airport Express + WPA frequently loses connection. but WEP OK

many people seem to have wireless connectivity problems with their MBP
-- here is the problem I see with my 2wk old MBP and my wireless setup at home (Airport Express) and at work (Linksys, model# unknown):
    1) MBP C2D + Linksys + WEP = no problems
    2) MBP C2D + Airport Express + WEP = no problems
    3) MBP C2D + Airport Express + WPA = frequent dropped connection, and poor range
    for reference, my previous laptop:
    4) Pismo + Airport Express + WEP = no problems
    5) Pismo + Linksys + WEP = no problems
with WPA (whether WPA or WPA2) and the MBP, I turn on Airport, signal looks strong, but then suddenly disappears. I have to toggle Airport off and on and then (sometimes) I'll successfully re-establish connection - only to possibly lose it again at some random point in time. Or it may work fine for an hour or more - it's hit or miss. no such problem or inconsistency with WEP enabled instead.
both laptops are running OS X 10.4.8. Of course only 802.11b on the Pismo, but results don't change on the MBP whether b, mixed b/g or only g.
The Airport Express is set up as a closed network, it's running firmware v6.3 (though I also reinstalled v6.1 but no change). I've tried many of the various other ideas for fixes - deleted Airport related keychains, etc played with various other Airport config settings - but all evidence points only to WPA as being the differentiating cause.
does this match anyone else's experience?
and more importantly, is there some fix?
thanks in advance for your feedback or suggestions

    Hi!
Used to have same problems. But not anymore.
Here's what I did. I have a DLINK 624 router. not the same model but this could help you, I guess
    1) Disable Super G mode into router.
    2) Choose a 62 character key with a $ in front of it. (go https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm) and use wpa2.
    3) Uncheck the Robutesse Interference (sorry, i am french) in the airport menu.
    4) Change the advanced performance settings from auto to 11 (Tx rate) into router.
    5) Whent into keychains and only kept the one for the active wi-fi. Since I tried almost verything, there where a lot!
Since I did that, no more lost connection for a day now!
Now I am not saying that this is the ultimate fix....but It worked for me.
BTW, did not do the SMC and EFI upgrade, still a little scared after what I read in the forums...I bought my mac book pro last week...how come it did not came with all the upgrade done??!! bizarre.
    Good luck!

  • Problem: DVD-RAM can no longer be read on MBP C2D

The "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D" in my MacBook Pro C2D is said to have read (but not write) support for DVD-RAM media.
During the first few weeks of its lifetime, reading DVD-RAMs definitely worked. But now, no more, no matter what brand of media I try.
All other types of optical media continue to work as advertised (read and write).
I wonder whether this is a physical defect (but then why doesn't it affect other types of media?) or an issue caused by recent sopftware updates (but when I boot from an external DVD-drive using the very original MacOS DVD with no updates at all, why do I still not get read support on the internal drive?).
AFAIK there has not been any recent firmware update for this model. So what can be the reason? Should I let Apple swap the drive? Has anyone else observed the same issue?

    Hey Grant,
thought you'd like to know my "cleaning the lens with a cloth" worked fine - uh... but for about three days only, then back to the same old, same old.
I'd originally slid a business card covered with a lens cleaning cloth (from my camera bag) to clean the lens, and although the cloth emerged mostly pristine, I figured it must've done the trick as the drive started working again.
So this time, I decided to go in deeper. I actually took the whole drive apart - case off, drive out, drive dismantled - and I had a long look around to see if any parts looked dirty or damaged...
I found just one thing - the small silver rod on which the read/write head travels (the servomechanism that moves up and down the disc radius as it reads/writes) had some 'oily gunk' at the point where the travelling-head's 'sleeve' met it -  when I tried to move the head manually up and down the rod, it sort of staggered along. So I cleaned off the gunk with a cotton bud and then slid the drive-head up and down a few times 'till it seemed to run freely.
Put everything back - and fired up my Mac Pro. And the drive has been 100% fine since then - two whole weeks!
Maybe this time I've cracked it? (for my drive at least)

  • Help! I Can't Boot from Firewire Drive (Previous MBP C2D Hard Drive)

Can a hardrive from a C2D Macbook Pro start an i7 Quad MBP?
I just sold my 2008 15" 2.4ghz C2D MBP, (that had 10.6.5 installed), and today bought the newest
    17" 2.2ghz i7 Quad Core MBP, (that has 10.6.6 pre-installed.)
I installed a fresh HD on the 15" before selling it, and kept its HD, and put it into a FW800 enclosure.
+(note: The 15" Macbook Pro I just sold, booted fine from this HD in the FW800 enclosure.)+
Before migrating my data, from the FW800 drive, I figured I would upgrade the old OS to 10.6.6, so it would be a seamless migration.
While up and running on the brand new i7, I could see the FW800 drive with 10.6.5 as a Startup Disk option in System Preferences.
I rebooted holding down the option key, selected the FW drive, and pressed the arrow below to continue startup.
The grey screen with the apple came up immediately, but I was horrified that the spinning gear never did appear, and startup froze at that point. I left it like this for five minutes. Grey screen with apple. Frozen.
So, I held down the power key, shut it down, then restarted holding down Command-S to run Disk Utility in SIngle User Mode, (/sbin/fsck -fy). Disk was okay.
I rebooted into the new internal, installed Diskwarrior 4.3, and checked the FW800, and it had no errors.
I opened Startup Disk in System Preferences, and chose the FW800 drive as the Startup Disk, and rebooted. Same result. Grey screen with apple, and no further...
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this?
Should I be able to boot this new MBP i7 with the HD from my old MBP C2D?
Is there something incompatible between the old C2D and i7?
    Thanks in advance!

That CD2 OS will not boot into a new computer's OS.
    Hi, thanks for replying.
I knew that the switch to Intel from ppc, meant a ppc drive, partitioned with APM could not boot an intel machine with a GUID partition table.
    Do you know:
    1. for certain that a C2D HD cannot boot an i7 machine?
    2. and why?
    Ho Lee MACkeral wrote:
Why not use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder?
I am planning on doing this.
    My old drive was 10.6.5.
The new machine has 10.6.6 pre-installed.
I figured that if I was able to upgrade the old drive to the same OSX first, it would provide a more seamless migration.
I was also concerned that my applications on 10.6.5 might become broken if they were migrated to 10.6.6. I really do not want to have to install everything.

  • MBP CD w/256Mb video or MBP C2D w/128Mb video?

    Hi.
Its a shame i am writing my first post in a PC machine..but the reason is im going to buy a MBP very soon.
Im going to use the machine for Architecture software (AUTOCAD 2D n 3D running on windows), Adobe creative suite CS2, etc...
The question is: should I buy a MBP CD w/256Mb Video or MBP C2D w/256Mb? both have 2.16GHz and 1Gb RAM.
Im going to buy it from the refurbished section and both are very close in the price. U$S1599 for the MBP C2D w/128mb video and U$S1499 for the MBP CD w/256mb video.
Could someone give me a hand with this decission? thanks a lot.

If you are going to use the current version, 2007, of AutoCAD you might want to check the the system requirements. The difference with this version is that it does make use of the GPU although I'm not usre how much a difference VRAM will make.
Regarding your choice though, I'd probably go with the Core 2 Duo model. It runs cooler, has 802.11n capable hardware and is capable of 3GB RAM which will be important for apllications like Adobe Photoshop. Be aware that the 2.16GHz C2D model has "only" 128MB VRAM.

  • MBP in lid closed mode, will the display get to hot?

i run my MBP in lid closed mode all of the time, as i have a Cinema Display hooked up. i'm not too worried about the MBP overheating, but i was wondering about the display getting extra hot from the MBP when it's closed. i do have a radtech microfibre cloth on top of the keys as protection...
    should i be concerned?
    17" MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm interested in this issue too, as I intend to get an MBP but use it with an external screen and keyboard most of the time.
I'd also like to know about ventilation - where does the cooling air come from and go to? What parts need to be kept clear, and which bits can I have up against or close to a bookshelf or hutch or whatever?
    Thanks in advance.
PS, I think the glossy screens look fantastic, but also think I'll go for matte since they are more practical.

  • I don't think my MBP slept after closing the lid - it was hot when I woke up

I just came back from an overseas trip and hooked my late 2013 13" MBP retina back up to the LG external monitor. When I went to bed I closed the lid. What I expected to happen was for it to stay awake for a certain number of minutes. Then the external monitor display would go black indicating it was asleep. But because an external monitor is connected it would wake up as needed for Carbon Copy Cloner at 3:30 am. But then go back to sleep.
However my MBP seemed too warm when I just came downstairs. The body and lit were noticeably warm.
Shouldn't it eventually sleep and not be fully awake in clamshell mode in this situation?
    Thanks,
    Doug

And another Apple Care chat session. But I still can't figure out exactly what's going on, and we seem to be going in circles.
Hello, Doug! How are you doing today?
    OK. And you?
I’m doing really well, thanks for asking! How can I help you today?
Well, I tried talking about this via chat support earlier, but was getting wrong information, so I thought I would try again and take a different approach to how I ask .
I’m currently reading through the chat transcript to get a strong understanding of what you were going through.
If you read over the chat you can see we digressed into a separate question about whether the "turn hard drive when possible" mattered to the internal SSD and he said it did and pointed me to a support page which said it did NOT and then he said, "there you have it! have all your questions been answered" but none were so I gave up.
    Anyway...
Basically it's just this. My MBP is connected to an external display. In the energy settings I have my MBP set to not sleep when the display sleeps so I don't lose some Terminal SSH connections when I'm working.
But when I'm going to sleep I thought I would let it power nap and cool down.
But I've noticed the MBP is warm in the morning. Also I noticed that open SSH sessions were not broken. So I think my MBP is not going to sleep.
Perhaps the computer thinks it’s going into Clamshell mode since it’s connected to an external display via HDMI, correct?
I did read in help that if you hold the power button down 1.5 seconds an option dialog will appear and from there I can select sleep. I did that, but this morning it is still warm and the connections were not broken.
Let me look into this, I want to do everything I can to make sure you’re getting your questions answered this time.
Yes, I believe you are correct. That it is just going into clamshell mode, and even though I manually selected sleep from the power button option it is ignoring that.
It seems to immediately sleep though. Instead of timing out, the external display goes black, reports a loss of signal and then goes into its own power save mode. So it appears to go to sleep.Yet it is warm in the morning, and the open Terminal sessions, which I would normally expect to break, are not broken.
Okay, so there’s still network communication going on, and you’re used to that terminating.
It shouldn’t be possible, but that could be what’s going on here. This is an interesting one, and I can see how you’d expect your Mac to be a little cooler to the touch if it’s supposed to be sleeping.
Okay, so there’s still network communication going on, and you’re used to that terminating.
Let me check our resources on this. It may be a great opportunity to speak to a senior advisor as well.
I just came back from a trip and during the trip there was no external monitor and I didn't experience this, even though the energy settings are the same.
The network is my home wifi. On my trip, it was my friend's home wifi.
So the external display is really the big variable here I think.
    Probably so.
I could just power off the external display before I close the lid as my next test before I go to sleep next time. But I sort of wanted to know what was happening. Especially since I intentionally manually selected sleep.
I’d like to check with a senior advisor if that’s okay with you.
    Yes, please do check.
    Also - another thing.
I notice my keypad and hand rest - the whole top surface - has become noticeably COOLER since we began our chat. So I'm wondering if there is stuff in the display/lid itself which might be causing the warm temperature, rather than the body (which is what I would have expected with the display off). Or it is just able to "cool better" with the lid open?
That’s another interesting observation. I think either way, the concern still remains whether or not the computer is actually going to sleep. The display of all things should not be producing excessive warmth.
Do you hear any fan noise when you wake your Mac?
    Or right beforehand?
Yes, you are correct about the main concern. I thought maybe there was something in the logs I might be able to check to see if it actually was asleep or not.
I have never heard any fan noice from the MBP.
Okay. I just wanted to make sure. My hands-on experience with a new Retina display is limited, I’m not sure what the fan actually sounds like compared to my traditional MacBook Pro. I’ll go ahead and consult with my senior advisor since our troubleshooting steps would indefinitely cause us to get disconnected.
Thanks for your patience as check on this!
I just found this terminal command to check on the last sleep time:
    pmset -g log | grep sleep | tail -n 1
It does report that it went to sleep at 2:42 am which sounds right:
    8/2/14, 2:42:25 AM GMT+9 com.apple.sleepservices.sessionTerminatedSleepService: window has terminated.
Unless that means sleep ENDED at that time.
Interesting. I’m glad you found that. It’s a little beyond the level at which I know OS X, But I’ll have some answers soon enough.
    OK. Take your time.
    Thanks, Doug.
I believe I found more information, though it still doesn't explain why the SSH connection didn't break.
    This command:
    pmset -g log|grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake "
will report all the sleep/awake occurrences.
For the last few days it reports:
7/30/14, 11:16:09 AM GMT Wake Wake from Standby [CDNVA] due to EC.LidOpen/Lid Open: Using BATT (Charge:99%)66 secs 7/30/14, 11:17:15 AM GMT Sleep Clamshell Sleep: Using BATT (Charge:99%) 10830 secs 7/30/14, 2:17:45 PM GMT+ Sleep Maintenance Sleep: Using BATT (Charge:97%) 11542 secs 7/30/14, 5:30:07 PM GMT+ Wake Wake from Standby [CDNVA] due to RTC/Alarm: Using BATT (Charge:96%) 41 secs 7/30/14, 5:30:48 PM GMT+ Sleep Clamshell Sleep: Using BATT (Charge:96%) 10823 secs 7/30/14, 8:31:11 PM GMT+ Sleep Maintenance Sleep: Using BATT (Charge:94%) 7/30/14, 9:29:02 PM GMT+ Wake Wake from Standby [CDNVA] due to EC.ACAttach/Lid Open: Using AC (Charge:94%) 8/2/14, 2:06:18 AM GMT+9 Sleep Software Sleep pid=78: Using AC (Charge:100%
So (if you can look at that neatly, one line at a time, it shows it was in fact going into clamshell sleep until I manually put it into sleep.
Then at 2:06 am it went into "software sleep".
Then at 2:42 a it went into something called "maintenance sleep"
at 3:30 am it was awakened by CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) and did not go to sleep again after that.
    So maybe:
    1. The sleep is quietly keeping the SSH connections alive and,
    2. CCC is not properly putting the MBP back to sleep after doing its 3:30 am backup?
Doug, I’m going to go ahead and transfer you over to a Senior Advisor now. They will discuss this with you further. Does that sound good?
    Yes, thank you.
You are now being connected to another Advisor. Please standby.
Okay, so your external display is not sleeping?
    It is sleeping.
It times out in 15 minutes normally.
After I close the MBP lid.
Just like the energy settings say it should.
And when I did the forced sleep via the power button the external display immediately went black and reported loss of signal and then went into power save mode.
So I assumed it was asleep.
Okay, so, the Mac is not sleeping or the Display?
What I'm trying to find out is if the Mac is sleeping or not. The reason I was prompted to ask was because in the morning after I wake up I notice the MBP feels warm to the touch. I would expect it to feel cold if it was sleeping. Also, a terminal session with an SSH going did not get broken.
Okay, I think I understand now. You are looking for answers about the sleep status of your Mac. I understand your expectation of a cold Mac, and I am here to help.
Thanks. Did you notice my pmset command outputs near the end of my chat with the previous person?
So, In Energy Saver, there is a setting to wake for network Activity.
    Yes. It is checked.
However, when not connected to the monitor (like on my previous trip) that was not enough to keep an SSH session going.
Okay, so this would explain to me why the Mac would be warm to the touch. If there is a SSH session active.
Typically those shells would break when the lid was closed.
Okay, with a Display attached, the system expects to operate in Clamshell mode when the lid is closed.
    This is all expected
    Which prompts two questions:
    (1) Even if I force it to sleep with the power button followed by selecting "sleep" from the options and
    (2) Even though the pmset output indicated it went to sleep and not into clamshell mode?
I am not familiar with the pmset
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pmset
In computing, pmset is a command line utility to manipulate power management settings under the Darwin and Mac OS X operating systems. It can assign sleep settings, schedule sleep and wake times, and display power information.
pmset indicated it went to sleep at 2:06 am. Anyway, as I reported above with the previous tech person.
Okay, pmset is not supported by AppleCare, yes it is a Terminal command, but it is there for Developer use
So... where are we left? That you think it was in clamshell mode even though I manually forced it into sleep mode and the logs indicate it went to sleep? I'm just still left not quite understanding what is happening.
I guess I'll just try a test next time with the display powered off and see what happens. I need to go now. Thank you. I will end the chat for now.

  • Temperature-related startup failure in MBP C2D

My MBP C2D fails at startup when rebooting after normal use (means web surfing and playing music with iTunes) and temperatures in my MBP's CPU cores have been ~50C or more by Temperature Monitor.
At startup DVD-drive makes it's normal eject sound, but then nothing, screen stays black. There is no startup sound or gray screen. I need to shutdown computer, let it cool down and after that it will start again.
Hardware test doesn't find anything and reseting PMU, PRAM or SMC doesn't help.
Problem seems to be temperature-related. Solutions?
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sorry for posting a not-so-helpful reply, but I think perhaps there is something wrong with the temperature sensor(s). The processor should shutdown only when the upper temperature threshold is exceeded. I suppose the hardware test cannot be run when the machine is still "hot"? I would call AppleCare...

  • MBP C2D unable to boot on external OSX 10.4.8

I have a Mac mini CD and a external HDD, both are installed with OSX 10.4.8. My Mac mini can boot on both OSX. However the MBP C2D is unable to boot on both (mac mini CD in target disk mode, and ext. HDD), it can only boot on the built-in OSX. When I tried to boot that two OSX, first it loads for a while and then freeze at a white screen. Sometimes the white screen may even blink vigorously.
I even had made a disk image of the OSX on the ext. HDD and restored it on my MBP C2D's internal HDD. The same freeze still happened.
Now it seems that the MBP C2D is not compatible for OSX other than its origanal one.
Can anyone confirm the existence of the problem?

It is really bad. Does the Apple support line help? The support line in my region is not that "pro".
For the issue, I had never experience something like that on a Mac, neither MBP CD nor Mac mini CD, they can boot from each other's OSX or OSX on ext. HDDs.
I am really surprised by this problem on MBP C2D. I think it should be software issue and every one using MBP C2D should have the issue, right?
