MBP C2D:  Who's waiting for Revision 2?

I've been waiting months for the MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo to come out and now that it has I think I'm going to wait a little longer. Given the number of technical and quality insurance problems with the recent line of MacBook's, I'm concern the 'first out of the shop' will have to go right back into the shop for repair like so many others that were first revisions.
Anyone else going to wait it out like me to see if the machine is stable before making a purchase?

Remember, judging anything by these boards is like judging the health of your community by visiting the Emergency Room. Only people who have problems come here, the people who don't have problems never come here. Looked at that way, it's remarkable how few people come here.
I'm just thinking its better to wait till they get any bugs worked out.
I think you're being wildly adventurous. Why not wait for Rev 4, which will hopefully fix the bugs that were introduced in Rev 3 while sorting out the bugs in Rev 2 that were missed in Rev 1.
More seriously, the time to upgrade the machine is when you need to upgrade, not at some point in the future when everything is 'perfect'. If you can wait to upgrade, then you don't need to upgrade.

  • Should I buy the MBP retina now or wait for the new one?

    Hey
I wanna buy a new MBP retina 15" before my uni starts in fall so after like a month and a half. I already have a 2011 MBP but wanna get a new and better one so I am just wondering what is the latest 15" retina by Apple? and when is the approximate date for the release of new retinas? like I mean if Apple has a date for new releases like it has for iPhone and iPad usually like to know if it worth waiting or not
    Thanks

I haven't heard anything as far as a new retina models. I just upgraded from a 13" mid 2012 non-retina pro to a 13" late 2013 retina pro. Either way I don't think there will be any major improvements to their retina pros if they do release a new one in the fall. I would say go ahead and get your retina now. Also Apple has a reuse and recycle program along with a student discount. You can take your old mac in and possibly get a store credit towards a new one but I doubt you'll get a huge discount. For my last MacBook, I would only have gotten about $350. But make sure you get what you need in it when you buy it because you can't upgrade the parts.

  • Wait for revision?

I am in the enviable position of being able to order a Macbook/Pro on the work account since I'll be able to run Windows for work and Mac for me. Like everyone else I've been reading everything about the initial batches. I think I'll go with the black Macbook as it's more business-like and probably a better travelor than the Pro model (and it looks like my old 1400 sorta). And it has less issues.
My question is: Do manufacturers make minor revisions to the motherboards, Rom and internal stuff when they roll out a new product? In other words, is a week 30 version likely to be less troublesome than the first few batches? I am in the middle of nowhere so the nearest Apple store is 200 miles away and I don't relish the thought of traveling 3 1/2 hours to sit at a genius bar to be told "they all do that".
And also, is a gig of Ram enough to run Parallels while still accessing the Mac OS? My Windows machine runs OK with 512.
1ghz 12in PB Mac OS X (10.4.6) and some really old stuff

    Hi Mark,
the answer for that question is nobody knows except the apple people and the person that incharge on the product development and manufacturing, so could be yes or no, you might have to compare the firmware version from time to time, which is time consuming and very impractical.
The only thing that I can think of is : this forum made them elevate the quality control standard based on issues pop up in this forum.
And I used to use 1400/166 c for quite sometime, and I like the 1400 casing better but I love this new MacBook keyboard better compare to 1400.
If you have budget, go for 2 x 1 Gb, better upgrade to the fullest so you are not wasting those 2 x 512 mb if you do stagering upgrade.
Just consider upgrade the memory yourself, it is cheaper and apple has the instruction for you. If you manage to install piggyback memory upgrade on your 1400, then you will have no problem to upgrade MacBook memory yourself because this one is easier.

  • MBP C2D unable to boot on external OSX 10.4.8

I have a Mac mini CD and a external HDD, both are installed with OSX 10.4.8. My Mac mini can boot on both OSX. However the MBP C2D is unable to boot on both (mac mini CD in target disk mode, and ext. HDD), it can only boot on the built-in OSX. When I tried to boot that two OSX, first it loads for a while and then freeze at a white screen. Sometimes the white screen may even blink vigorously.
I even had made a disk image of the OSX on the ext. HDD and restored it on my MBP C2D's internal HDD. The same freeze still happened.
Now it seems that the MBP C2D is not compatible for OSX other than its origanal one.
Can anyone confirm the existence of the problem?

It is really bad. Does the Apple support line help? The support line in my region is not that "pro".
For the issue, I had never experience something like that on a Mac, neither MBP CD nor Mac mini CD, they can boot from each other's OSX or OSX on ext. HDDs.
I am really surprised by this problem on MBP C2D. I think it should be software issue and every one using MBP C2D should have the issue, right?

  • Waiting for mountain lion

I'm still "waiting" on mountain lion download.  Tried last night.  Waiting.  Shut down & went to bed.  This morning it showed "paused."  Tried again.  "Waiting."  Again.  Question:  how do I stop the "waiting," and, like, um, actually download the thing?

    DjABu,
You really need to get a life. Go out, take a walk, go to work, go to sleep, read a book, watch a movie....if you are just sitting there waiting for a magic email to appear, then whether it is 1 hour or 72 hours, it will seem like an eternity.
You are not the only person in the universe (hard to believe, I know), and you are also not the only person who is waiting for this FREE upgrade. So chill out dude! You'll get it when you get it....

  • HT5639 unable to pair my iphone 4s to my mac using bluetooth been to apple store who have told me there is a clitch and to wait for undates to cure the problem ?

unable to pair my iphone 4s to my mac using bluetooth been to apple store who have told me there is a clitch and to wait for undates to cure the problem ?

I have my iPhone 4S paired with my macbook retina, so hexonxonx's reply is incorrect.
After you pair your phone and your computer, go into network preferences on your computer. Click the bluetooth pan, check that you see your phone and click connect.
    That worked for me.
If I click connect from the phone it tells me that my retina mbp isn't compatible and it forces me to forget this device. If this happens just repair it...
    Good luck

  • Anybody gonna cancel order for 17"MBP C2D if shipping gets delayed again?

Just wondering if anybody else will want to cancel their order if our "updated" shipping date estimate is pushed back again. This is my first Apple (not including my ipod) and it has been a bad experience so far. I was looking forward to my new mac world but right now my trusty PC is looking better and better. If the delay was for something other than supply issues I might not want to get on this sinking ship.

I feel your pain...I ordered the new MBP C2D then cancelled the order, because I wanted to wait for some more feedback. I had ordered a custom configuration and when I called Apple to hold the shipment until I was got back to them they said that normally they won't do that and with it being a custom config it was not returnable. If i cancelled before shipment I would be able to in essence get a refund but in that case I wasn't even being billed for it since they don't charge the credit card until it is shipped. this all happened last night (sunday). I was made aware that if it were shipped anyway because it had already been built I could still return it for a refund since I had made the decision and it is on file with Apple before fedex got their hands on it.
fast forward to this morning.....Fedex got it before Apple pulled it from the loading dock......in the end, I don't really mind the situation. I will just drop it back at fedex. apple didn't pressure me into keeping it and even helped me expedite the return. I also don't need a replacement computer, so I am not in a bind.
Also, I guess, it i needed a new 'puter I would be ****** off with the delay....on the other hand, I would anticipate any delays or problems if I needed a new one.
good luck and hang in there....you won't be disappointed (i hope)
    Eric

  • Who has a good MBP C2D display?

Sincerely, I need to know from people of have a good MBP Core 2 Duo display.
Because I just went to a Best Buy (sadly, we don't have Apple Stores over here) and had a look at a MBP Core 2 Duo matte display. I could see the uneven illumination and the white brighter stripe at the bottom of the screen. And there seem to have lots of discussion concerning the display issues!
And comparing to an iMac 20"inch C2D display, the MBP C2D had nothing to envy.
Please post your comments and recommendations! (I'm hesitating for an MBP replacement between a new MBP C2D or iMac 20" inch. I'd be ready to give up portability to avoid big issues like uneven illumination.)

I know you were asking if anyone does have a good MBP C2D screen.. but mine is pretty horrible. 17", uneven backlighting all over the place, and a very definite brighter bar along the bottom. also there are lots of 'pinched' areas around the edges where it seems like the display is fastened together, and there very bright patches in these areas.
I get used to it and mostly ignore it while working, but when you start up the machine and it's all grey, it's always a sudden reminder that this screen is awful. it's actually a bit embarrassing given that my machine is the absolute flagship laptop that apple are currently shipping. a director/3D animator friend who saw my machine for the first time the other day was impressed by everything about it, the design, the power, the silent performance.. but when I started it up again and he saw the restart grey screen, his jaw dropped.. 'omg, take it back, that is appalling' is what he said..

  • What's the typical benchmark for 17" mbp c2d?

Did anyone here run the bencmark testing?
    my feeling -
#1) machine is running just cool (a little hotter than my previous compaq laptop)
#2) hard disk making some noise
#3) speed is just fine, I assume the speed will boom after installing leopard since the c2d is 64-bit architecture
    #4) screen is georgious

    You ask:
"what's the typical benchmark for 17" mbp c2d"
On a dusty/ sticky table, 4 little round feet near the corners of the unit, leave their imprint on whatever the mbp has been sitting on. They do smudge if you'rre not careful when you pick it up, then they smudge or your fingers can leave a mark in the dust too.
    Couldn't resist lol

  • HT3529 my iphone broke, is there anyway to see who is texting me or calling me while i wait for my new phone?

my iphone broke, is there anyway to see who is texting me or calling me while i wait for my new phone?

Through iCloud, a user is able to share (and sync) all content between iOS devices (and Macs), including messages.
    • Syncing between iOS devices
If you have an iPad or iPod touch, activating iCloud in those devices with the same iCloud account of your iPhone will allow the text messages you initially recieve from your phone to be delivered to the additional devices.
    ➞ Limitations
The caller must be an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) user.
The caller must be sending the text to your iCloud account (e-mail address), not your phone number.
    • Syncing to your Mac
If you have a Mac (iMac, Macbook, Mac mini, etc), 'Messages Beta for OS X' will allow your computer to act as a text messaging machine, as well ― just like your iPhone.
    ➞ Limitations
The caller must be an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) user.
The caller must be sending the text to your iCloud account (e-mail address), not your phone number.
Unfortunately, phone calls, which all of the other iOS devices, except iPhones, don't have, cannot be received.

  • For those who are impatient for the Iphone 5 delivery. I got mine and didn't wait..

If you are impatient and want the iphone 5 in your hand the very next day, I suggest going to the apple site and place an order for in store pickup. Originally I placed my order with verizon and had a 3-4 week wait. Then I decided to cancel the verizon order and I got myself one the very next day and didn't have to wait for long delivery dates. Here is how I did it:
    1) Go to http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/
    2) Notice the message "iPhone 5 is available in limited quantities. Buy it at your favorite Apple Retail Store or choose in-store pickup when you buy online between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m."
    3) I have noticed that by the time you fill out the form information at 10pm, the iphone 5's are out of stock at your local store in probably 5 minutes. So they sell out really fast. So what I did to bypass the form was to login with my appleid and pre-fill the form around 9:30pm and SAVE it to the cart.
    4) At this point, I needed to know exactly what store I wanted to pick it up from. I chose 3 stores around my area in order of preference in case if one didn't have it in stock I could move on to the next without wasting any time thinking about it at the time of checkout. When 9:55pm rolls around, I logged into my saved cart and checked out picking the store I wanted.
    5) Then entered my payment information and picked it up the next day.
The only disadvantage to this approach was you may not get your preferred store, but this didn't bother me too much as I didn't want to wait 4 weeks for my phone. I hope this helps some people. If there are questions, I will try to answer.. Good luck to those still waiting!!
