MBP can no longer access a wired network

Just like week I could no longer access an academic wired campus network.
The IT department says they can see my MBP on  the network, but the MPB no longer can access the network.
I can take the same MBP to another place of employment and gain access to their wired network.
As a caveat this same MBP can access the academic wireless network with no issues.
No thing has changed on the academci wired network since last week.
Thoughts?
Thank you,
Reed

Leopard sets your mac to avoid being a master browser so you don't see other shares in finder.
There are many ways around it but if you run a network with few machines and that is the only mac the fastest is to launch terminal as administrator and issue the following command:
sudo pico /etc/hosts
Add a line at the end with the IP address of your NAS, this is what I have in my hosts
192.168.0.100 Netdrive
Hit option X and save the file. Reboot the machine the NAS will come up immediately

  • Can no longer access disks on network, all of a sudden happend

I have been at this for day’ now and have no results! Can no longer access disks on network.
Connecting to my server (it has one FW HD connected that is in 3 artitions). If I do it over a new window and click on the computer in the network I do see all the disks that it offers for sharing. Clicking one (or any for that matter) I get:
This operation can not be completed because original item for “name of disk” cannot be found.
If I try to mount over cmd K I again see all disks but can not mount any. I get:
    A volume failed to mount.
The volume “name of disk” could not be mounted.
Trying to connect to the server from other machine gives same result. However I can connect between the tow other machines without a problem.
I have another machine in my network and this one I can connect to as always. My suspicion is thus that it is the host I can not connect to where the problem is.
And yes I did repair permissions, and ran Applejack.
This has happened al of a sudden as all was well a few days ago. Any insights?

    Hi orangekay
not sure where you got the idea that I have
bizarre encrypted filesystem plugins and scripts you have manipulating them all the time
because I do not have any such running, just normal Applescripts that do tasks that could be done by hand.

  • Time Capsule - can no longer access on MBP Leopard

For the past 6 or 7 weeks I can no longer access my Time Capsule from my MBP Leopard. However, I do not beleive this is a Time Capsule issue as I am still accessing (and backing up) successfully from a MBP running Snow Leopard. Note, the access and backup were running fine for over a year and suddenly just stopped working. I've done the basics like repair permissions, software update, checked everything. For soem reason, when I try to access, I can see the Time Capsule, I can connect until I get to Data then "mylaptop Sparse Bundle". When I choose that disk image backup - just continues for ever and ever with a dialog box that says "trying to connect" or something like that.
    Any ideas appreciated ...
    thanks

"the current volume could not be mounted". Also "The Current Time Machine backup disk can;t be found".
Has this Mac had any problems since the last successful backup? Such as hardware repairs, especially a new logic board? A full restore?
Is the +sparse bundle+ currently mounted? If so, eject it and try again.
If not, or if that doesn't help, try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 of Troubleshooting.
Interesting to note that the final backup (7 weeks ago) failed - it looked like hourly backups worked and the final one failed ("says in progress" ?)
Yes, that's the partial, failed backup. Since it's incomplete, it won't appear in the "Star Wars" display, etc. Once Time Machine gets started, it will "recover" it, and convert it into a normal backup, with a new date & Time.
After that long without a backup, Time Machine will have a lot of work to do (including recovering the partial backup), so connect via Ethernet if at all possible. It will still take a while, but be 2-3 times faster than WIFI.

  • I can no longer access the web on my IPod Touch through my home wifi network.

I have an I Pod Touch with operating system 4.2.1.  It has worked fine the past year plus.  Suddenly, I can no longer access webpages on it.  When  try to load a website, looks like it is trying to open the page, but it never fully loads and times out. My I Pod indicates that it recognizes my wifi network and I have tried resetting both my I Pod and my router.  Weirder yet, I can access my Yahoo email on my I Pod and if there is a website link embedded in an email message, i can open it and access the page that way.  Any link on the web page opened through my email however does not work.  My home computer, which is on the same wifi network, is working fine.  The only thing that did occur recently was a power outage.
Please help - this is very frustrating.

LTE indicates cellular. Tap Settings > Cellular then switch Cellular Data ON.
If your Wi-Fi is working, then you should be able to access the internet.
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.

  • Can no longer access a network drive

After upgrading to OS X Leopard (10.5), I can no longer access my network hard disk. I use a Linksys Network Storage Link that has a 320 GB hard disk attached to it. In Tiger, I could go to the Network icon in the Finder and connect to the disk. Now the network icon does nothing. Any ideas? THANKS.

  • After installing Mountain Lion two drives on my network cannot be accessed.  I am using Parallels to utilize QuickBooks ERP.  The programs and data are on the drives that I can no longer access.  Suggestions?

After installing Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro, I can no longer access two shared drives.  Diagostics cannot solve the problem.  I am using Parallels to run Qucikbooks ERP on these shared drives.  How do I get my Mac to see these drives and access them?

Don't know what to tell you, but I also have an AEBS-Gen5 with a MBP Retina and Mac Mini using WiFi. Both are running Mountain Lion and I don't have any WiFi connection issues. Two iPhones in the household use WiFi with no issues along with a printer and 2 Windows 7 laptops.
First thing I would try is to shutdown all computers connected to the AEBS. Then power off the AEBS and finally the cable/DSL modem. Then reverse the order and power on the cable modem, wait for all the lights to be solid, power on the AEBS, wait for the light to show solid green; then power up a computer that uses WiFi.
If the above doesn't work, you might try repairing permissions via Disk Utility. If that doesn't help maybe a PRAM reset would work.

  • Can no longer access Netgear Router

We have been using a Netgear MR 314 router for years for both Wireless and Ethernet wired activity on our G4, G5 and MacBooks. We recently upgraded to Safari 4.0.1 on all 3 machines. Internet, file sharing, screen sharing, home networking all work just fine.
What mystifies me is that I can no longer access router data (192.168.0.1 + password) to do whatever on any of the machines with Safari 4.0.1. I click the tabs on the router (Wizard, Advanced, Maintenance) and nothing happens beyond the 'Welcome' screen. In order to get access to the router I have to use a Dell XP machine. Then I can get into the router with no problem. It's not a big deal, but any ideas?
Yes, yes - all of the MAC ID's for all computers and wireless adapters are still in the router configuration table as tested today with the Dell. So, again, any ideas ??
    Thanks

From what you describe, it seems that Netgear deliberately chose to make their web-based management system for their routers focused on Windoze and it's browsers, so either they're using non-compliant HTML, or they're browser sniffing and rejecting anything that isn't IE or Firefox on Windoze. You should complaint to them and let them know how upset you are. There's really no excuse for that, especially since they don't disclose it prior to or after you buy it, and it just shows how lazy they really are when designing these systems.
You should open Safari's Preferences>Advanced window and enable the Debug menu, then go to that menu on the menu bar and use the User Agent sub-menu to select a different browser (Firefox for Windoze) and see if that will give you access again.

  • Can no longer access Graphite Base Station, Please help

For no apparent reason, my DP 800,10.4.11 can no longer access my Graphite Base Station. For years I have had no problems.
But this morning I lost access to my base station. I entered the PW as usual, but it did not allow access. I verified the PW in Keychain (and the base station name), but again I struck out. The machine is otherwise fine (or so it seems).
I have done the following, all unsuccessfully:
    • Shut down with cold restart
    • Zapped PRAM
    • Safe Booted
    • Created a new account/User
    • Ran DiskWarrior
    • Rebooted Base Station
    • Reverted to a week old backup, still no joy.
I can successfully connect to the base station with my iMac, so I am certain the base station works.
I know nothing about this stuff, but it now seems the problem is with the Airport card inside the DP 800. Is this likely?
What if anything else can I do to either isolate the problem, or better yet, fix the problem?

    Some things to try:
Create a new Location in System Preferences > Network. (Start from scratch; don't do it by modifying an existing Location.)
Turn off WEP encryption on the base station.
Physically move the base station and/or computer to overcome possible wireless interference in the original position. (Note: the base station does not need to be connected to the Internet while you test wireless connectivity.) You can also try enabling Interference Robustness (on both the computer and base station) and changing the wireless channel.
See whether the DP 800 can connect to a different wireless network.
I'm somewhat surprised you say you entered the password "as usual." Under the typical settings, your computer would remember your network and its password and join it automatically. (I know you haven't declined to store the password in the Keychain.) Moreover, your reference to the "base station name" strikes me as odd, as you do not need to know the base station name in order to connect to the network. Did you mean the wireless network name? Or might the password you have been entering be the base station password, instead of the wireless network password?

  • I can no longer access homesharing on my phone since updating to ios6. Is there another step to take?

I can no longer access home sharing on my phone since updating to ios 6. What else do I need to do?

I found whats happening at least partialy. My 2 iphones that wouldnt participate in shared library and ipad2 had false logins in music setting.
I tried log out under music, and log in, and it said it can't log in.
same time, funny thing happened, app store is also unreachable.
I only restored in itunes my ipad2 for testing (it was suggested by apple via apple support chatline) and it worked, I can connect to shared lib only with ipad.
Alas, it partialy downloaded my library???? and it had errors in it.
I restarted router, itunes server, ipad (resetting network settings and loosing all my 20 or so connections I have for different places!) and ipad works.
My wife's iphone managed to log on into music settings to home sharing, but it only downloaded partialy itunes library. I am not restoring it since Id loose a lot more!
My own iphone4 isn't managing to connect into home sharing.
I have tried to solve this for a week.
New firmware of asus RT N66U gorgeously capable router and all the things I did came to nothing.
I think it's n iOS wifi communications problem, and only apple can solve it.
no idea how to complain to them....
Needless to say, my iphone and ipad manage to connect everywhere else.
It looks like the network they use the most, are most affected by this!

  • WRT54G2 - can no longer access router webpage after changing setting

hello i've started gaming again so i ended up configuring a static IP using the network and sharing centre in the control panel and i'm online with the fixed IP, and i had some ports forwarded in my router web page and everything has been working great the past 2 days. however, earlier this morning i could not join any games all of  a sudden even tho i played 1 when i just got up, so i went to my router home page and changed a setting, i'll link a screen shot, i'm pretty sure i just changed the local IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.10 (which is what i set it as 2 days ago in the control panel network tcp ip4 thing)  it's possible i modified somethin in the dchp server section but i was nearly convinced that was disabled anyways. http://screenshots.portforward.com/routers/Linksys/WRT54G2/Basic_Setup.htm is the link if it helps
anyways like the thread title says, i can no longer access the router web page which was 192.168.1.1, instead all i see is a sickening  image about something called internet information services!? talk about a weird thing to see when i expected to see my router web page. but it's related to microsoft so it's not malacious at least. any ideas on how i fked up so bad and how to fix it, so i can see the router web page again, and edit the settings back to the way it was this morning

I can't access either and c ant get a connection plugging in my laptop I got a new modem and I'm trying to configure my modem to my wrt54g2 and lost
Hi randallel, you may have to do a hard reset before reconfiguring your router with the new modem. To do the proper reset, please press down the reset button for 30 seconds while the power is on. Release the button and unplug the device. Plug it back in and reinstall the settings based on the type of Internet connection that you have. Hope this helps.

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Try:

  • Macbook pro can no longer access windows file share.  'This file server is available on your computer'

    Hi all,
We have a consultant who uses a macbook pro to access the internet and a windows share within our network.  He has been accessing the internet and the windows share fine for over 4 weeks and overnight he can no longer access the internet or this windows share.  I have got the error down to a specific windows share which is actually a share on a DC hence the loss of internet.  When this user plugs in via ethernet he can view all network locations as expected and can access everyone succesfully bar this specific one.  Everytime he tries to access this share he gets the following error: 'This file server is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally'.  I have another macbook pro that can successfully access this share.
I have tried renewing leases, browsing the network in finder, using 'cmd + k' all produce the same message.
The user is running Mountain Lion
    Any ideas?
    Adam

Find and delete the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist file.  This is what keeps track of all your current server share mounts.  Maybe the file is corrupt or something.  Once you delete it, reboot the machine and then try again.  Don't empty the trash until you're sure everything works after the reboot.
