MBP connected to Sony LCD 46X350A - No Signal Detected

Need help.
I've tried connecting my MBP to my Sony LCD via the VGA output (I believe that's what it is), via the cable supplied when I bought my notebook, but the message on the LCD says no signal detected.
I've went into the System Preferences, Displays and the MBP definitely recognizes that it is connected to the LCD, but I cannot get any picture (No Signal Detected Message on LCD) either by mirroring or using the LCD as an external monitor.
Any thoughts or suggestions from anyone?
Many thanks in advance.

Im having a very similar issue. I was happily using my MBP with an external Acer Display connected, until that display simply stopped working. It now only says 'No Signal' before shutting off. Zapping the PRAM and the SMC didn't get me anywhere, so I'll be taking it to the Mac Store tonight. I'll post what they'll tell me!

  • Can Powerbook connect to sony LCD flat panel fo simultaneous display?

I want to buy the Sony KDL-52XBR2 LCD flat panel and connect my Powerbook G4 using an HDMI or HD-15 Pin cable for simultaneous display.
While the TV specs say it will allow a PC to connect and display, I have had trouble in the past with Mac/tv connectivity because of video driver issues in either the Powerbook or the tv. I could not get both screens to display simultaneously (without parts being cut off at the bottom or sides). Apple would not support my question as the "connected device" (the tv) was not an apple product.
Before I spend the money on a new TV, I would like to know if anyone has had success with "plug-and-play" connectivity to a 42" or 50" plasma or LCD flat panel, in particular a Sony product.
    Thanks in advance for sharing.

There is no reliable way to know if a random TV will or will not suffer from the "overscan" problem where the top, bottom and sides are cut off. Many TVs do this and there is no way to get around it.
What I would do is take your PowerBook to the retailer where you are buying the TV and ask them if you can hook up the PB to the floor model. That is the only way to know for sure if it works to your satisfaction. Either that or, if you have a specific TV and know its model number, you might be able to ask your question again and get an answer from someone that already owns the TV. The AVSforum.com are a good place to check for various TV models.

  • Connecting my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) and listening to Multichannel surround sound.

    Dear all,
I am attempting to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) via the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI. I have successfully connected the two devices and can select "SONY TV XV" in the sound preference pane. I can see and hear what I'd like, however, I can only monitor the sound in 2 channel stereo. I have my TV connected to a Sony 7.1 audio receiver via an optical cable and can monitor 7.1 sound via other sources (Blu-ray, broadcast, etc). When I go into the Audio Midi Setup utility, I am unable to configure my speakers to be anything but 2 channel stereo. I am given the options for "2ch-16bit", "2ch-20bit", "2ch-24bit" and "Encoded Digital Audio". When I select "Encoded Digital Audio", my output automatically changes to Built-in Output. Has anyone been able to successfully resolve this issue? Thanks for all your help!
    Gregg

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

I have tested it with the Moshi (http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/moshi-mini-dp-to-hdmi-adapter-with-a udio-support) and Belkin (http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA342ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter) adapters, both purchased from the Apple Store with no such luck. Have you or anyone else had success with any other third-party adapters?

  • Connecting my Powerbook to Sony LCD

Hey guys, what do I need to plug my labtop into my sony lcd hdtv in order to watch movies?

    Hello,
Depends on what input methods your Sony LCD accepts.
The easiest would be DVI to DVI or DVI to VGA. If you use VGA then your need the adapter from DVI to VGA which came with the PowerBook. If your Sony LCD support S-Video you could use that.  I personally use S-Video to my HDTV however it has the input via SCART to S-Video.
The maximum external display resolutions is 2048x1536.
just checked my sony and i did see an svideo port so im all good then right?  do you have a link of exactly what i need?

  • Pixelmapping to Sony lcd

I have a MacBook pro 13" and Sony bra via kdl-46v5100 LCD. I am connecting them via mini display > hdmi at 1080p60. The output looks terrible. The screen doesn't fill my LCD. There thick black borders. I have overscan disabled because I want 1:1 pixel mapping. My Sony LCD is set to full pixel. Some reason the MacBook pro isn't outputting correctly. It's taking the 1080p and scaling it to a lower res. Is there a solution? I tried switch ResX but the stings are too confusing.

The only thing I can see is that it operates at 120Hz and you're sending it 60Hz ?
And I assume you're using 'Mirroring' but, on a 13" MBP the maximum resolution is 1280x800 so that would explain why you're not seeing 1080 as it can't do that locally.
If you have an external keyboard and mouse try closing the MacBook Pro lid (clamshell mode) and then waking it with the keyboard or mouse, this might give you a different output (long short but could work)

  • Connect to 32" LCD TV from Lenovo T61 with a VGA connector

    Hi,
I am trying to connect to 32" LCD TV 1080P from T61 with a VGA connector. When I do (Fn+Ctrl+F7) I can see the T61's output on my TV if I set T61's display setting as 1280x768. Then If I increase the resolution on the TV the screen becomes black. I want to change the display setting to 1920x1080 so that I can see output as full screen on my TV.
    Notebook setting as follows
    Color Quality - 32 bit
    Refresh Rate - 60 Hertz
How can I change the screen resolution?

Most likely the TV won't support higher resolutions via the VGA connector. But there is a workaround.
After spending several hours at a TV store last October, we found an obscure reference in the TV's manual stating this limitation. We also discovered that HDMI will support the max resolution. The T61p docking station has a DVI port that outputs a signal that can be converted to HDMI. We bought a DVI-to-HDMI conversion plug ($75) and took the docking station, conversion plug and an HDMI cable back to the store. Worked great so we bought the 65" LCD for trade shows. There are some settings to play with on both the T61p and the TV that will increase the image clarity significantly. The image is stunning at full res.

  • Sony LCD TV stopped recognizing Thunderbolt port.

So, my Macbook Air is pretty new. Less than a year old. I was hooking the Air up to my Sony LCD TV with ease via the Thunderbolt port.
Now, for some reason, the TV stopped recognizing my signal.
When I plug the HDMI cable from thunderbolt to TV my mac flashes the blue screen (which is good, I guess), but then the TV says "unsupported signal. please check the device output."
I used to not have this problem. The arrangement tab does not open up on System preferences>displays.
I am not sure what to do.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Question RE: hooking up MBP to a 22' LCD

so i have a 22' LCD monitor i want to hook up to my MBP, but the question i have is this: is there a way to keep the notebook closed and still turn on/off the computer?
i would like to have the MBP connected to the monitor and not have to open the MBP to turn it on then close it up etc
    thanks!

Hi - I just gave this answer to someone else so sorry for the copy and paste:
Hi - I have a Macbook (Pro is on order!!) and so cannot be 100% sure that the method is the same but.
    - Make sure you are connected to an external keyboard and mouse and all is working as it should.
    - Close the MBP's lid
At this point it will go into standy. Wait a few secs (perhaps 10 - 30) for it to settle into standby and then hit Enter on your keyboard and/or left click your mouse. At this point it should start up again using the external monitor only.
    Hope this helps.

  • Connecting Soundcard to LCD

I want to play DVD through my computer to my SONY LCD. I'm going to connect the tv using a HDMI cable. But
where I'm connecting it too there are the usual red and white audio inputs. I don't see that on my
soundcard. First of all what are all the inputs om the soundcard for (by color)? Is it on the site somewhere.
Also is there an adapter to be able to connect my soundcard to the red and white inputs?
    Hope that's clear.
    Chris

Hey chrisdis, you didn't imply which X-Fi card you were using but if it has the colored inputs then pretty much all sound cards are uni'versal regarding that. Here are the input descriptions:
Red Conn. - Line Out 3 jack Connect the following inputs on powered analog speakers or a home theater receiver to this jack:
On 5. systems: Front Center and Subwoofer
On 6. systems: Front Center, Subwoofer and Rear Center
On 7. systems: Front Center, Subwoofer and Side Left
Gray Conn. - Line Out 2 jack Connect the following inputs on powered analog speakers or a home theater receiver to this jack:
On 4., 5. and 6. systems: Rear Left and Rear Right
On 7. systems: Rear Left, Rear Right and Side Right
Green Conn. - Line Out jack Connect the Front Left and Front Right inputs on powered analog speakers or a home theater receiver to this jack. You can also connect your stereo headphones with a 3.50 mm (/8-inch) plug to this jack.
Blue Conn. - Digital I/O / Line In / Mic In jack Performs a 3-in- function, supporting Microphone-in, Line-in and Digital I/O connections.
Connect one of the following to this jack:
analog devices like cassette players and other line-level sources
    a microphone
    the Digital I/O Module*
external digital audio devices that accept stereo PCM or compressed Dolby Digital/DTS Bitstream from the Digital output
To Connect your X-Fi to your LCD TV would require a Y adapter, which has a /8 in. connection on one end and RCA connections on the other. These are cheap and available at almost any electronics store. Here's one on bestbuy.com for about 6 bucks,

Ok, I just found this one which might suit you better, it's the complete one you'll need, no extra cables as with the above one, It's from micro center.com but you can find it at radio shack or someplace too.

  • Bluetooth configured but won't connect to Sony shelf stereo

I've configured my MBP with my Sony Micro Component Shelf System (stereo) w/ Bluetooth with no problem. But I can't figure out how to connect them to actually play music. Maybe this is really simple, but I'm new to Mac as of yesterday.
(I was able to connect my old PC to the Sony stereo using a Bluetooth USB dongle.)
    Thanks in advance.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Mac OS X doesn't yet support A2DP which is required for streaming music over Bluetooth. This support is coming in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
There is a hack to enable it in 10.4 Tiger, but it's not perfect by any means:

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.
