MBP display checkerboard after sleep

Hi Guys,
I found yesterday after opening the lid of my MBP once I got home from work that the screen had turned into a multi-coloured checkerboard of 'fuzzy' patches.
Doing a hard boot didn't resolve the issue as it did the same thing, then cleared and got 'stuck' on the blue screen that flashes up on boot. The second time I did a hard boot though, it came good.
I have read elsewhere that this is something to do with the logic board.. Anyone else having the same problem?
I use an older CRT monitor at work as a second display and I am pretty sure unplugging it had something to do with it the first time, but it just happened again after waking the computer from sleep. (Running Motion 2 at the time)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Guy's,
I bought my MBP last Thursday and it was working fine until 2 days ago when I got the checkerboard after only a few minutes of use. Hardware check gave back the Failure code: 4SNS/1/40000000:'Tm0P' which I sent to Apple but no reply yet.
I'm bringing it back to the shop first thing tommorrow morning. I don't have time to wait a week or two for them to fix the problem especially if their "motherboards" all got the same hardware onboard. I haven't been able to spot any stories by Apple about this issue.
Looks like Apple has a QA issue with their ATI-X1600, or that the QA issue is ATI's all the way.

  • Mbp wont reconnect after sleep

Used to be able to just put to sleep by closing cover and reopen. It would reconnect before I had it all the way open. Now I have to connect it manually every time. Only happens at some locations - other locations still work. Read somewhere about similar WiFi names but not sure that is the problem.

  • Main display blank after sleep under Mavericks

I use a NEC Multisync LCD 2690 as my main display, and a small Hansol H550 as a secondary one; when waking up from sleep, the NEC is blank and everything is crammed up on the Hansol. Under Lion, I could go to the System Preferences, choose Monitors and Detect Monitors to force the displays to correct themselves but this feature is absent under Mavericks; any idea how I could correct this without having to perform a complete restart each time the Mac Pro goes to sleep?

Found the so-called missing feature: in System Preferences, choose Monitors and hold down the Option key to get the Dectect Monitors button. Still, loosing the main display after sleep is a BIG bug...
P.S. I’m working with a French system, the naming of the features might be slightly off.

  • MBP shuts down after sleep when 2% battery left

Sorry guys if u find it irritating to see the similar question again n again but i couldnt stop myself from asking this...
i have my mbp just 3 weeks old and i tried to callibrate the battery just few hrs ago...i continuously used my mbp until the battery level reached to 2% (the warning message showed when it was 6%)...just then i had to received a phone call. When i was busy talking, i noticed that the mbp has gone to sleep mode...but when i returned (2-3 mins later), i found it shut down...
well, i think it should have remained to sleep mode but it didnt...then after an hour i connected the power cord and switched on and noticed a progress bar which i saw for the first time....i have been charging it for 40-50 mins, now...
also the health of my battery keeps fluctuating between 95-100 %...istat shows this...is this normal???
So what i want to know is, Is this normal for mbp to shut down when the battery reach that low?? OR there is some problem in my MBP???
if there is should i be going to my mbp reseller shop for service or it is something i can handle myself????
    thanks in advance..

then how am i supposed to callibrate if it shuts down before completely draining the battery???
and what about the battery health % being fluctuating? my battery have completed only 9 cycles and the health shown at the moment is 97%

  • Mbp running slow after sleep mode

My MBP runs extremely slow after sleep mode (closing lid). It seems like Safari will take up much RAM. But I use a memory freer which supposedly should solve the problem. So after all I am not sure what is the real cause and what could solve this.
BTW it runs normally after a reboot.
Mine is a mbp 13" refurb purchased in March, 2012.
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM

I too have been noticing problems in slow behavior after sleep mode.  It has gotten so bad I have been restarting it regularly or shutting down much more regularly.  It behaves almost like normal after a re-start.
It is almost like the hard drive is failing? Last time this happened I put a new HD in.  I am usually running a large number of different programs, always multi-tasking, which has been a mac fortie. Seems worse with the last few updates.  My I mac is 24" imac 2008 model. replaced drive just before apple care expired.

  • MBP w/Retina Display Problem After Sleep

I have bought a MBP Retina Display 15" in July 2012 and until recently I did not have any problems with my Mac. However, I am having the same problem as the one in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt0tS8KJKuQ
There seems to be no problem if I don't leave my mac on sleep for so long but what is the sleep function and power nap for in the first place. Is there any solution to this.
    Thx

Hardware does fail occasionally, but part of why I would take mine to an Apple Store would be for an opinion on whether the problem was hareware or software. Since it has been less than a year since your bought your MBP-R, it is still under warranty, just not eligible for free phone assistance. If you have neither an Apple Store nor a trusted repair facility available to you, that will make it tougher.
Do I understand you to say this only happens after it has been asleep for a longish time? You can keep it from happening by waking it up sooner or by shutting down when you expect to be away for a longer time? I'm not sure what that tells us, but it in interesting.
Do you by any chance have a bootable copy of your system on an external disk? Preferrably one that was made before you started experiencing the symptoms. If so, does the MBP-R present the same symptoms when booted from that copy?

  • 17" MBP , display settings after wake from sleep

My display will be very dim after waking & I will have to move the display slider in sys pref.to brighten .It doesn't always happen but I would say it happens about 80% of the time. This in turn somewhat defeats the calibration I have done with a HueyPRO. Is there a way to lock this setting ? No padlock on this pane in sys pref.
I do not have the auto adjust display checked. I do have the display to prompt a password from sleep for security. I am the only user but have a second "trouble shooter" acct.that I have yet to use.
    thanks

would this be a warranty issue ?

  • Display dark after sleep

This is annoying. It happens inconsistently but when it happens it requires a restart- any ideas?

I have similar problems using MBP w/Cinema 23". Sleep used to work but after the latest upgrade it is erratic. Various errors: Screen sometimes flickers on external monitor at boot; screen goes black while attempting to enter the PW before hitting "enter"; If I get the display Ok on monitor, when I close the lid I can't restore the display from sleep. This worked OK for the first five weeks I've had the combo until this week's software upgrade (downgrade, apparently?). Once, and only once, I used "restart" from the Apple menu and it appeared to work but when in mirror mode (usually keep that off because of differing resolution between notebook and monitor); could not repeat that success. I've changed every setting I can find to no avail.

  • Cannot resume external display/monitor after sleep

    Hi,
I am using the latest MBPr with yosemite OS. I connect to second display using the thunderbolt to VGA adapter. After returning from sleep stage, the external monitor will not display anything. It just say no signal from my MBPr. I need to disconnect the cable and reconnect it back to have the signal back normal. This never happen in maverick.
    Pls help.

Same problem here, except I am using straight HDMI.  Very annoying.

  • Abrupt change of display-color after sleep

I POSTED THIS IN THE iMAC DISPLAY-SECTION OF DISCUSSIONS BUT NOBODY REPLIED:
After I wake up my iMac 27, after it was in sleep-mode
for some hours, colors look different for less then a second (warmer),
then it changes to something more cold/bluish. The change is exactly like
a manual change of the calibration/monitor-profile via settings.
There is NO blackscreen between the change of the colors,
    like I said: exactly like a monitor-profile-switch.
I didn't change/add a different profile than the standard yet.
Is my monitor faulty and/or what's happening with it?
PS: I can't tell if the "less then a second visible"-profile is superior,
but i'd like to test it, if possible I installed all the latest updates.
But amongst them there wasn't that firmware update. Maybe
cause I CTO'ed the iMac a few weeks ago.

Haven't experienced this on my i5 iMac, but my monitor is hardware calibrated with a custom profile (first thing I did when I switched it on). I use the ColorMonki device.
I would recommend you hardware calibrate your monitor and see if the issue re-occurs. If it does contact Apple Tech Support for further advice

  • 2011 MBP Temporarily "Freezes" After Sleep?

I just bought a 2011 i5 13" MBP recently and occasionally when I wake it up from sleep it will wake up normally, and I can see everything on my screen, but when I try to move the pointer or do any functions (maybe opening spotlight?) it won't respond for maybe ~15 seconds?, and then it works fine.  It only does it every 10-15 "awakenings" or so, but it's still annoying when I want to get something done quickly.  Anyone else have this issue?

I used to have that problem as well, try going to system preferences and having the computer require a password after waking, worked for me.

  • MBP re-awakens after sleep with lid shut with Mavericks update

My MBP seems to want to re-awaken itself after I make it go to sleep by closing the lid!
This has started since the last couple of updates. Weirdest thing - it would go to sleep after I close it, and then after a while it would try to re-awaken with the lid shut, and it keeps doing it over and over again.
I noticed that the machine was hot, one day when I came home, and then I realized that it was hot because it keeps wanting to come awake after I closed the lid, and noticed it the last couple times I went to bed myself!
    What is this weird glitch?
    Thank you.

    Hi 24Golfer,
Take a look at the article below and verify there isn't a sleep preference set that's causing the issue with your portable.

  • MBP black Screen after Sleep Mode

My MBP goes to sleep but I get a black screen and it won't wake up after pressing keys or mouse. The only way to wake it up is to hold the power button down and restart. The white indicator light stays on and it sounds as if the computer is running, but nothing will wake it up. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when I open my computer after it has been sleeping, the screen will not come on. The only way to fix it is to either hard boot it, or press the power button, then enter, then press the power button again after a bit. The latter tells me that the computer wakes up, just not the screen as I can correctly shut down the computer with key strokes. Mine is an Early 2008 (non unibody) MBP.

  • MBP gets frozen after sleep

Hi! I have an early 2011 15" MBP running OS X 10.8.2. For some time I experience a problem which happened rarely in the past and got more and more frequent and now it happens always.
The symptom is that whenever I leave my MBP running with the display black (I configured the upper left corner of the screen to switch it off) for some time after like 3-5 hours it gets forzen. When I move the mouse the screen comes back, and the program running in the top window responds sometime, but latest after the first attempt when I try to switch to any other running programs or click the Apple menu, it hangs and nothing works any more. (Usually the CPU fans are on top speed but I'm not sure wether it's always the case.)
Then I press the power btn for 10sec and restart it. If I'm luckey the system boots if not is does not and either a question mark or a folder icon appears on the grey background. Then I usually reboot it in repair mode and lunch the disk utility, and make it repair all the problems, but it rarely finds any.
This behaviour is experienced even with no programs running (so after a fresh restart), so I don't think it's related to any of the user software. Yesterday I also tried to reinstall the system completely but it didn't help.
I have a feeling that it might be related to the indexing process, because after such a forced reboot, a long indexing starts usually; but if it were the reason, others might have the same issue i guess, so I'm really out of ideas...
Any hints/help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

Try starting in the Safe Mode and see if you get the same results:
Starting Up in the Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode
Also try using another account to see if you get the same results. Disk Utility doesn't repair permissions for your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  'resetpassword' (without the 's) and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Mac Mini won't remember display profil after sleep

Hello! I'm posting this for a friend who experiences issues with its new Mac Mini.
The system won't keep its display profile setting when waking up from sleep. My friend have to go to System Preferences to select the right display profile manually, each time.
The display is some 17 inches CRT most probably connected by a VGA plug.
    Any idea?

It could be the FW disk is not mounting early enough. Did you try holding down "Option" at startup, the using the Startup Manager to select the disk?
See Startup Manager: How to Select a Startup Volume. You may need to wait until the scan finds your FW disk.
