MBP doesn't recognize FPD2185W Gateway Monitor

I've had the previous model of the MBP and with the VGA adapter, it worked fine with the FPD2185W Gateway monitor. Now with the newest MBP, and with its new display port requiring having to buy a new adapter, the only thing I can do is mirror the display, and the display flickers and changes color at random intervals. Once, after going toggling mirroring displays and detecting them, I'll be able to actually have the external monitor act as an extra monitor, but there's no rhyme or reason to this. I'm sorry, but if I'm being forced to pay money to buy an adapter so Apple can push its new display port, is it too much to ask that it works with existing monitors?

Thanks for your input.  Unfortunately, none of this works at all.  I've tried every possible variation on booting up but the sys pref/detect displays doesn't detect another display.  The strange thing is that once in a while I can get it going but for only a split second.  This is definitely not a cable problem, and the fact that it worked at one point makes me think that there is something inside that is loose or unstable.

  • Mac mini doesn't recognize the second monitor

I have Mac mini mid 2011 with dual display setup - one HDMI, the Second one thunderbolt to DVI adapter.
Majority of times it doesn't recognize the second monitor connected through thunderbolt. Sometimes it start suddenly after a while, I've read there are some issues with the 10.10.2 Yosemite...
Any  suggestions how to sort it out please? Many thanks, this is really a pain in the *** for me, strugling for a half an hour with a monitor...

Thanks lllaass I tried it but doesn't work. I tried with different cables, still doesn't work.
The strange thing is that sometimes it suddenly starts and works smoothly... Really strange problem. I will try a new adapter Thunderbolt to HDMI....
What is the worst, when both monitors work smoothly and I put the computer to sleep or i shut it down, when started all over the monitor is not recognized.
    Ehhh :-(

  • My MBP doesn't recognize my iPhone3

It's been about 19 applications since I last synced my iPhone3 with my MBP (OS 10.4.11) and now the MBP doesn't recognize the phone at all. Doesn't even see it as connected. I have no software updates available when I check and I have no idea what to do.
I wanted to upgrade my iPhone version from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3, hopefully that is still possible. I'm missing out on an important app and upgrading to Leopard at this time is not an option.

I'm afraid you have no choice but to update if you want to update your apps or OS. The minimum Mac requirements are:
    # Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
    # Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    # iTunes 9.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
OS 3.1.3 is no longer available from Apple. Only iOS 4.0.2 is available now. If you're still using a 3G iphone, I would recommend waiting until iOS 4.1 is released before you update. However, you need to update your computer to 10.5.8 or later & itunes to 9.2 or later. If you've got an intel Mac, you can go straight to SL, the $29 upgrade disk will work regardless of what you might read or be told otherwise. Apple no longer sells leopard, so if you went that route you'd have to find a retail disk on someplace like eBay.

  • MBP doesn't recognize Panasonic HDC-TM900

My MBP doesn't recognize Panasonic HDC-TM900 videocamera. I tried to connect both devices through an USB cable, but the camera is not recognized by the computer, no trace of the camera in System Profiler or Disk Utility. What should I do to solve this problem? Any tip welcomed.

It's very possible that the card was not formatted properly inside the camera or you are recording in 1080p60 (or 50) and your editing software does not recognize that format.
    I hope that makes sense

  • What do I do if my MBP doesn't recognize my HDD after a hard reboot?

I have a MBP 13'' Mid 2010 2.4GHz 4GB. I work on Lion, with BootCamp and Parallels installed.
Two weeks ago, I used Parallels to open up Windows for the first time since months. I think, maybe for the first time since i migrated with TimeMachine from a Backup. Windows worked fine. In the end of my session, I put it to hibernate by just closing it. Later this day, I opened it again and the monitor froze. I made a hard reboot which resulted in the folder with the question mark. I thought "crashed hdd". I exchanged the hdd for a new one and started up SL Install from the DVD. SL Installer (more exactly: the Disk Utility) does not even recognize it as a HDD! I put a third HDD as external USB which was recognized and I installed SL there. Later, I even put my "crashed hdd" in an other case => works also, I can boot from it! But still as I write to you know, I work from a boot off an external hdd and the disk utility in SL does not recognize the internal hdd. The SuperDrive works fine. Apple Hardware Test did not give any results. PRAM-Reset was done. The laptop even still is stable under stress, calculation, gaming and everything.
Yesterday I used Windows again, now from the USB-Drive. It worked fine and I turned it off in the evening. Today, when I tried to boot from the HDD => Folder with question mark! Now it's working again as I'm home, and I'm not sure if this is because of 1) Luck 2) a PRAM-Reset 3) pushing Alt during the boot. I have to say: In this two weeks I didn't need to push Alt during boot for the Mac to recognize and boot from my USB-Hdd.
I'm afraid that my LogicBoard is slowly dying... can somebody explain me what happened?
Is it possible that BootCamp destroyed something of the hardware? Moreover, what more can I do to "reset" my MacBook to its original state, additionally to putting a new HDD in it? I think and hope that no hardware is damaged, so a total reset of all possible properties could probably help me. Will I have to flash the EFI? Is that even possible?
Thank you all very much for your help!
    Greetings
    Tobi
PS: At the moment I think of my laptop as of a patient having a heart transplant on a cardiopulmonary bypass: Everything works fine, but many important part happen outside of the real body!

    Hello, Grandma Mo.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would first make sure all updates have been processed for the computer and iTunes.  You may need to place the device in recovery mode before iTunes will recognize the device.  Here is the article that explains that process.

  • MBP doesn't recognize my new Nec projector

    I'm using a late-2008 mbp (2.53 c2d) and had recently bought a Nec NP-M311W projector.
downloaded the "image express utility 2" that nec made for macs.
I cannot connect it in any way I tried:
    1. macbook pro is connected wirelessly to router, the nec projector with ethernet to router.
result: the utility doesn't see the projector.
    2. connect the mbp and projector with wplud and playe USB cable, the projector is supposed to autorun an exe file for windows users...
    3. soon I'll try with miniDisplay to HDMI when I get the adapter.
please help... cannot use my new projector.

That was a bad decision, you may have lost the data.
If you want to try to recover it you will need some data recovery software, and you need to stop using the drive at once. Don't use it until you have recovery software.

  • MbP doesn't recognize external HD anymore!?

    Hi,
I know there are some disscusions about this topic, but nothing is really like mine problem I think.
So my problem is; suddenly my mbp did not recognoze my external hd anymore. I was watching a serie from my EHD, and I wanted to click to the next episode.
My mbp said; 'external hard drive in 'save mode'. So I tried to get it back through disck utility, I checked my settings in finder. I tried to start up my mbp a coulpe of times. Tried to start it up in save mode, single user mode and all the other tricks. Nothing worked.
Then my seconds problem came up. My mbp got stuck in the save mode. It did not wanted to start up at all. So I made a appointment at the apple store to get it ficked. They said to me to try to start it up with the option key.  So that I can start it up from the right harddrive (witch was my external probably)
So I did that and it worked. Made a back up of course. But my mbp still does not see my EHD. no where. Not in disck utility or anything.
I know my EHD still works, because I see the light, and hear it somethimes. I also tried to let it work with a other usb cable and other inputs.(it did not work)
I want to try to solve this problem by my self firts before I make a new appointment at the apple store. but I need a little help from you guys.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem, anyone with experience with this?
Please help me out here please.
    Thanks allready!

  • MBP doesn't recognize my portable hard drive anymore

    Hello!
To provide some background on my issue, my portable hard drive format was NTFS, and I wished for it to be FAT-32.  I was trying to transfer some files over from my Windows computer to my Mac, however it wouldn't work due to the formatting.  To change the formatting, I used some third-party software and started the conversion (without formatting the drive so that I could keep all my files) however mid way through the process, my stupid laptop entered sleep mode and stopped everything.
When I tried to re-plug the hard drive in my Mac, it didn't show up in the finder, but the Disk Utility did find it.  The model I have is the iStorage DiskGenie portable hard drive.

  • MBP doesn't see mini DVI cable port?

I am trying to use the mini display port on my MBP with a DVI cable connected to a ViewSonic projector. Each time I connect the cables, the MBP resets the display and comes back as though nothing has changed. When the projector is connected, the image displayed is the Apple Universe home page without any menu bar or dock. For some reason when I open iPhoto or any other program, the projector doesn't recognize them and simply keeps the home screen image only.
My MBP doesn't recognize that the port is being used.
How can I get the MBP to see the projector so that I can use the MBP to display a slide show? Any help at this juncture would be appreciated.

Your projector is in Extended Desktop mode. Press Command+F1 to switch to Mirrored mode, in which whatever is displayed on your built-in screen will also be displayed on the projector. Or leave it in ED mode and drag the windows you want to project off the appropriate edge of the built-in display to move them onto the projector.

  • Using old Gateway monitor as second display for Late 2013 MBP?

    Hi all,
I'm currently running OSX 10.9.4 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina Display. I recently took an old Gateway LCD monitor (with DVI and HDMI ports) off of someone's hands and was wondering if I'd be able to use it as a second display for my MBP. I have a DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. If this is doable, instructions would be great.
    Thank you!
(Yes, this is a repost. I realized I posted the other one in the wrong section, and I was unable to move sections.)

I have, using the adapter, connected them via the MBP's HDMI slot and the other monitor's DVI port. The monitor turns on, but the Mac doesn't recognize the other display. The other display is simply blank after it's initial turn-on screen.

  • What is the best method to connect Gateway FPD2185W External Monitor

    Hello,
I just bought a new Macbook. I would like to connect it to my larger Gateway FPD2185W external monitor. The monitor is maybe three years old, and has VGA, component, S-Video, and DVI inputs. Which type of connection would work best? I have a mini-DVI to VGA connector from Apple, but the display doesn't look the greatest. I'm still new to using the MacBook, so help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

There are some settings on the monitor that might be affecting how it looks when running from VGA. There should be a "tuning" function, also known as clock phase adjustment. There is an AUTO button located on the side of the monitor. Press it and see if it helps the picture quality. Also under the Video Adjust menu are settings for Sharpness and Noise Reduction. Those settings can often interfere with good picture quality, so you might try playing with them as well.
Of course, you could always switch to the DVI input for the best image quality, but that would require buying another adapter from Apple and also a DVI cable if the monitor didn't already come with one.

Everytime I get a message saying that this software is not supported on my system. Can anyone tell me why I can't install the updates?

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

  • 2012 Macbook Pro 15" doesn't recognize VGA monitors plugged into displayport

We have a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" (and a 2010, and a 2011).  The 2012 doesn't recognize VGA/DVI (old) monitors plugged into it, but it does recognize new DVI monitors.
What gives?  I'm not even sure how to diagnose or attempt to treat this.
    2012 Macbook Pro
    OS X 10.8.3
    Wacom Cintiq
    Vuzix iWear
    etc

Does it see, recognize, any usb devices?
Have you tried a smc reset?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't fix it and no usb device is being seen by that port then you have a hardware problem and you need to take the system to apple to be fixed before your warranty runs out.

  • Samsung 27" monitor doesn't recognize my MacBook Pro

Hi All....I bought a Samsung 27" monitor ( S27B350H ) last night to use with my MacBook Pro laptop.  I connected a HDMI cable from the monitor to the HDMI/DVI adapter then connected it to my MacBook Pro.  Monitor doesn't recognize my MacBook. Why?
The CD that came with the Samsung can only be opened on a Windows machine.  I don't know/do Windows.
There is a floating box on the monitor screen that switches between the word Analog and the word HDMI.
Do I need to do something in the System Preferences > Display section to get the Mac and Monitor to recognize each other?
    Appreciate any help or ideas.
    MSW

The Mac does not use Drivers for specific displays, so nothing on that CD will be useful anyway.
Instead, the Mac uses a highly parameterized display driver for each graphics card. When the display identifies itself by name and capabilities, Mac software automatically sets the parameters in the Driver for optimum performance with the stated display capabilities.
The problem comes when a display does not properly identify itself. No picture.
    About this Mac > ( More Info ) Graphics & Displays ...
... will show you whether the display has reported it NAME and CAPABILITIES.

  • Macbook air 13 inch 2012 doesn't recognize external monitor...

Hello everyone I'm having a slight problem with my macbook air and I was hoping that someone here could help.
I am using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to connect my Macbook air 2012 13 inch to an external monitor. When I connect my computer to the monitor my computer doesn't recognize that it is infact connected and acts as if nothing is connected.

I followed the steps on the link you provided for resetting the SMC and also did NVRAM reset but now, when I open the lid, it doesn't come back up, instead it just beeps 3 times and never comes back up.
Not sure what to do about this now.
