MBP doesn't restore after battery depleted

I have a 2008 13" Macbook pro. I have this caffeine utility which is really handy if I want the screen to stay lit but sometimes I forget to plug in and my battery dies. It used to restore after my battery ran out (that gray screen with the bar near the bottom) but now it either hangs when it gets to the middle or I get a message in a box telling me to hold the power button down and restart.
I know I should just be more careful and not let my battery die but it's a real bummer when I lose what I was working on.
Would this be resolved by buying a new battery?

The best solution is to invest in a backup drive, and backup with an application like Time Machine. Even if your HD explodes, you have a backup.
Getting a new battery may not be necessary, so long as you keep track of your battery. Download a free app like Coconut Battery. It installs as a desktop item, and you can consult it at any time.
Also, consider using your machine while it's its plugged in. This saves your battery for when you really need it.

  • Not going to sleep after battery depletion, just crashing

My Blackbook had some intermittent battery issues last week, so I got a new battery. The new battery allowed the battery meter to start functioning properly again, but it still doesn't go to sleep when the battery is completely depleted, it just crashes hard.
I have already reset the SMC firmware, is there anything else I can do to try and solve this issue, or does it have to go to an Apple store? Would they have to replace the logic board in order to fix this issue? I'm sure hoping not, as I know that's a $300+ job.

  • IPad doesn't load, constantly restarts, and doesn't restore after iOS 8.1 update attempt.

    Hello all.
I have an iPad Air 16gb with 4g Verizon Card. My iPad was working perfect until I attempted to update to iOS 8.1. It went through the normal update routine but when it restarted that's where all my problems began. It would go almost to where the iOS would kick on but I got the Apple blue screen of death for about 2 seconds and then it would restart. It's been going through these motions ever since never going into iOS. After doing some research, I finally found out how to emergency restore the iPad by turning it off and turning it back on holding the home button until the itunes/lightning plug symbols come on the screen. Plugged it into my computer, loaded itunes, and attempted to restore. I downloaded a fresh iOS 8.1 update and the iPad would turn off and turn back on with the update bar below the apple symbol. After the bar appeared, the bar remained unchanged so nothing even loaded. Then a few minutes later, I received "itunes could not connect to this iphone. an unknown error occured (0xE8000084)." and then got the "iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013)." Not really sure why it's saying iPhone either. I tried this three times getting the same result. I just tried restarting the computer and doing it again and yet I get the same result. Does anyone have any clue why this is happening and how to fix this? This is very frustrating because I'm in the military stationed in Italy but I'm about 3 hours away from the nearest Apple store and, not to imply anything, but they may not even speak English and having to take the train risking nothing getting solved. Any other ideas or help would be appreciated.

    Hi rsa12985,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that errors with iTunes errors and issues with your iPad not turning on can both be very frustrating and concerning. In this situation, with the unknown error 4013, I would suggest following the steps located in the attached article.

  • Ipad doesn't charge after battery warning

After a battery warning, the charger that came with the iPad will not charge it. Message indicates that the charger will not work with the iPad. One has to shut down the iPad and then start it again. At that point the charger is recognized and the iPad will charge.

If it says 'not charging' when plugged into the wall with the iPad charger, then your ipad may have issues. Try resetting it, holding the home and sleep key, past when you see the red power off and until you see the silver apple.
If you reset it, plug it into the wall with its charger and you still get 'not charging' then it may be time to take it to the local Apple store and have them check it out.

  • No sleep after battery depletion

    Hello guys!
I have an MBR from 2006. In the last time I noticed that when battery reach about 10% my computer is turned off without any warning. Today was the second time.
It's my battery (I still have the original battery) or as I read in one of the posts I should reset SMC?
    thanks!

You could try an SMC reset, hirohito, but if this is the original battery in your MBP then it is almost certainly just getting too old to function properly under load. Take it to an Apple Store or authorised service provider and get it tested.
The internal resistance of Lithium batteries increases with age (and to a lesser extent with use). When the resistance increases to a certain level it is no longer able to deliver power at the expected rate. Once this occurs you will experience unexpected shutdowns instead of the computer going through the normal sleep processes. The computer may also start to shut down suddenly, even with lots of charge left, if you use it for any CPU intensive activity such as rendering video, or even possibly watching a "Flash" based movie on the internet.
Many users have found that with the batteries in the pre-unibody MBPs they are lucky if they can get two years of life out of them. You have done well to have yours continuing to behave for as long as it has!
    Cheers

  • Satellite L10-104 doesn't start after battery totally empty

    Hi,
after I left the laptop over the weekend without the AC charger the battery was totally empty. So I reconnected it to charge the battery for one day.
Now, when I press the power on button the green LED on the front illuminates for approx 3 seconds - nothing else happens. No HDD sounds, no coooling fan noise, nothing on the screen.
Does anyone have some ideas what I could do to make it run again?
    Thanks,
    Christian

    Hi,
I took out the battery for one day, put everything together and tried to start up - nothing.
Then I took out RAM, HDD and some other module that's accessible from underneath and put the power cord in, tried to start - nothing.
I even disassembled the whole notebook and hooked up only the motherboard with the power line (of course CPU, GPU and cooling fan were still attached) - still nothing. Only the green LED in the front lights up for 3 seconds.
My guess is - its time has finally come. However I never expected that after a complete discharge of the battery.
Thanks for your help. I'd appreciate if you have any other ideas and since the notebook is 5 years old I guess I will not take it to a service technician.

  • OS X doesn't load after battery failure

    Hi!
I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro and my battery is almost dead, today I forgot to connect my Mac to the plug and the Mac just shut down due lack of battery (i don't get my warning anymore). When I tried to boot again, it gets stuck with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel
    What I've tried so far:
    > boot with partition recovery and fix disk and permissions
    > reset of PRAM and NVRAM
    > tried to boot with safe mode
None if this worked! not even the safe mode. I don't want to install everything again, though I have backups on my time capsule and I am safe on what regards data.
what else can I do before I go with the install?

    Hi!
I managed to fix it, I had to install OS X through partition recovery and it worked. Now I have some libraries corrupted like aperture, but I am rebuilding it just right now. All should be fine now.
About the battery, no, it isn't recharging okay. Nowadays I can't last with battery for more than 40 minutes, I'll have to replace my battery soon...

yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!

  • MacBook Pro 17" (Late 2007) not starting up after battery calibration (depleted)

Hi, I have spent most of today skimming through the advice given on these forums, but to no avail. I cannot power up my MBP. Since it is Sunday, I will give my best to find every piece of "soft" advice to try before giving up my daily workhorse to the official Apple Support.
    Machine specs:
    MacBook Pro 17" Hi-Res pre-unibody (2007)
Second battery - original bloated about a year ago (lasted 4 yrs! of continuous use)
    SSD primary, HDD secondary drives
    6GB om RAM
    2.4GHz C2D
    MacOS 10.6.8
Logic board replaced a few years back with faulty graphics (re-call).
    This is what happened:
I decided to recalibrate my MBP (replaced, non-original NuPower) battery over the weekend.
I'm using my laptop at home and at the office, plugged in mostly. So it was advised to perform this procedure for the sake of a healthy battery.
Dreained it to the state of sleep nd then waited for the sleep light to go off.
A couple of hours passed after that when I returned to my desk and plugged in the adapter.
The LED went on GREEN (weird, I thought, but hoped it just did not pick up the completely drained battery right away).
Let it rest with that state for several hours. LED remained GREEN at all times.
Tha laptop sat still on the desk the whole time...
    This is what I tried:
Unplugged, took battery out briefly, replugged - GREEN indicator.
Tried another adapter (60W instead of the original 85W), that adapter showed green as well.
Tried my AC adapter to charge another MacBook - charged fine, AMBER light.
    - THIS MEANS the problem is with my MBP unit (incl battery).
Unplugged, took battery out, held the power button for 5secs (SMC reset), reassembled - no improvement
Tried all key-combos, held power button for 10secs
Took the battery out and tried to bott with plugged adapter, this normally works fine, but now nothing - no sound whatsoever
    - THIS MEANS the issues is not with the battery, it is with the power management.
Sad thing is, that if it is the motherboard somehow that got damaged by itself, it means the end of this fine and capable machine. It is not worth the investment of a replacement motherboard and buying them from ebay is not a sustainable option
Tomorrow I will swap AC-adapters and batteries with an identical model of a friend. I will let you know.
I expect little you can help me with, but for future reference, the story might prove useful for similar cases. I was upset and surprised mainly because of the timing - not powering up after drained battery during calibration process.

Dreained it to the state of sleep nd then waited for the sleep light to go off.
A couple of hours passed after that when I returned to my desk and plugged in the adapter.
Did you wait 5+ hours?  Per article - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7261 "After your computer goes to sleep, turn it off or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer."

  • MBP 2010 13'' completely freezing when loading from sleep after battery drain

    Hi all,
Ever since upgrading do Mountain Lion, everytime my MBP 2010 13'' goes to sleep after battery drainage, it freezes in the last "dash" of the waking up process. Furthermore I noticed that the background during wake up is not my dimmed desktop anymore as it used to be on Lion, it is the Apple logo on a white background (similar to Power up screen). I experience no other freezing stated by the community that are attributed to ML, iTunes or Safari, only this one when recovering from sleep. This last time I waited a couple of hours before power down, only resulting in abnormal heating. Already tried fully charge, fully recharge, reboot, cmd+opt+p+r, ... Anyone has this? Is it a known problem being somehow addressed by Apple? Thanks in advance!

So can anyone tell me how can I open an issue on this for Apple? Thanks.

  • I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED. After some months of use my MBP died. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was to blame

I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED.
After some months of use my MBP died outside USA. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was faulty.
After I came back to US I took my MBP to Apple store and was told that there is liquid damage in the system. My question is that if there was liquid damage why did my MBP stop displaying the battery status right after  the battery was changed secondly why didnt the apple verified Service centre tell me that there was liquid damage afterall I paid them the money for diagnosing the problem.
Is there a process i can followup on this problem

These are question you would need to ask that service center.

  • My photo want sync and my you tube doesn't work after update and my battery drains fast.

this new update doesn't work like i should work my photo doesn't upload my you tube doesn't work & my battery drain faster than ever now

Synching new photos from iPhone to the new Photos app on the iMac is incredibly slow. Placeholders for the photos do appear but the content stays white (initially) then black. As an example, I started the Photos app some 15 minutes ago and am still waiting for the synch of merely 11 photos to complete.
Since I agreed to pay 4.99 euro per month to extend online storage to 200 GB, I would expect flawless behavior. I am disappointed.

  • MBP shutdown 2 sec after disconnect the powersupply. Battery 100% at 5372mA

    Hello
I think my MBP has a defective Mainboard.
The Battery is 100% loaded, 5369mA left, but when I disconnect the powersupply it shutdown within 2 seconds.
Till now I never hat real problems. 1 year again Apple send me a new Battery because the case was deformed.
What could be the problem? Everything else works normal. Very frustrated because as supporter I am not always able to run on main-power. I have tried to reset the PRAM without any result.
Are their some other things I can check?
    Regards

Well, it seems you are not the only one out there with this problem. Since the update to 10.5.6 last weekend, I do have the same issue: when disconnecting power supply, MBP shuts down, or when in disconnected in sleep mode, MBP is shut down. MBP cannot be started without power supply on although battery is fully charged.
Checked the battery status (see below), seems fine to me. Also did suggested work around, without success. Earlier known problem, which was solved with Battery Updater 1.3 is not causing it as BU 1.3 is installed.
It is just a long shot, but might be the update to 10.5.6 have some unwanted side effects to MBP Intel 2.4Ghz?
