MBP froze now screen is very dimmed but still on froze screen

Hi guys, earlier today I was using my 2012 MBP with not too many programs open. The computer then froze and I let it sit for a bit but it was still frozen. I then shut the computer lid and then the screen was black. I had thought it was turned off but I just realized the screen is extremely dimmed but I can just make Out the words. It's still on the same screen. I have turned the brightness up and I have made a genius appointment.
Thanks,

Alright guys, I took the computer to apple and they said because it's so new they would give me a new one.

  • T400 LCD screen is very dim, but icon lights for HDD, etc. are working

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows what the issue with my T-400 would be if the LCD screen is very dim.  Details include:
    - When I boot up, there's a faint outline of what is going on, but barely noticeable since the whole screen is very, very dim
    - Video card is working okay, because I can operate the laptop when I plug in an external monitor
    - The icon lights for HDD, power, battery, etc. are still working
Thanks so much for the help.

First a question: Is it a CCFL backlight or LED? If it is a CCFL, it could be just the inverter, which is a lot cheaper than the panel. If the CCFL bulb goes out, usually (but not always) there is a red tint to the screen for a while first. The LED backlights are less likely to blow and there is no inverter. (The LED backlight is DC and the inverter convers the DC to AC to drive the CCFL bulb) Do you know which kind of backlight you have? If you don't know, send me your full model and serial in a pm and I'll look it up. Don't post it in the open forum. Also, what were you doing when it went out? Were you doing anything except normal work, like taking something apart or hooking something up?

Don't worry, ok? This is scary to see but we will help fix it for you. How are you trying to activate the phone? Have you tried connecting the phone to a computer and using iTunes to activate it? Activating that way may just do the trick!

  • IPhone was in my pocket and my pants got wet...now the screen is very dim

Hi - I had my iPhone in my jeans pocket and I got soaked. The iPhone had a protective plastic covering on it. Everything seems to be working but the screen is very dim. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on how or if this can be fixed?

Another alternative is silica gel pacs which may be a more effective drying agent. Turn the phone off and leave the phone in a sealed bag with the gel pacs or rice for at least 5 days before tying it again. Never use direct heat such as a hair dryer.

If this doesn't fix it, Apple will replace your out of warranty iPhone (including water damaged phones) for $199.

Also, there are 3rd party iPhone repair services which may be cheaper. Google is your friend to find these.

  • Thinkpad W500 screen - seems very dim. typical? faulty?

Having issues with the apparent brightness of my Lenovo W500 (suspected Samsung display) in reasonable ambient light levels,  I thought I'd try measuring the lux with a tool I found at  ->http://www.tuug.fi/~toni/serendipity/index.php?/archives/12-Luxus-light-meter-desktop-widget-for-N90...  -- just for a more objective, albeit uncalibrated view on brightness.
In each case I placed the proximity sensor directly over the panel, so it was around 5cm "in" from the edge & displayed an all-white window.
    Here's my rough results
    Lenovo W500 (full)                            R=083 L=063 T=060
    Dell 2005fp desktop (normal)                  R=151 L=155 T=142
    old? HP 17" 4:3 (normal)                      R=157 L=143 T=180
    Dell Studio 15 1920 laptop led (in dark room) R=104 L=111 T=110
    Dell Studio 15 1920 laptop led (full)         R=214 L=212 T=226
    Dell Studio 17 laptop led (full)              R=300 L=314 T=297
    ? HP 19" unknown (low lighting)               L=098 R=107 T=113
    ? HP 19" unknown (full)                       L=138 R=153 T=162
From this "comfortable" is IMO in the region 130-150 - the W500 fals way way below this.
    Has anyone else measured?
    What's reasonable?
I believe the spec is around 175-180 -- but that's obviously a calibrated test
The dell 2005fp is rated at 300 yet I score 150 above (though this is NOT on max, just normal)
The dell studio 17 is rated around 317 on full -- and the score above shows this as close
I can only conclude therefore my measurements are in the right ball park
The W500 is on full brightness & using the appropriate monitor.inf under win 7
What I should really do is have a proper colorimiter calibration and measurement done.
The "spec" of the W500 panel is 180-200 I believe - it's clearly not fair to use the numbers literally, but something is very very wrong.
Does this suggest my panel is faulty? To be honest I don't think I've seen a "good" W500 but I wonder if it meets the spec?
Anyone else fancy measuring a "current" laptop for comparison -- especially any other W500 owners (some of which have samsung panels, some have LG panels)

I no longer have W500 but I do remember screen being very dim. Notebookcheck measured a much higher value (130 on average?) even in comparison to other notebooks so I also suggest you try to get a replacement. I guess it is ok to use the manufacturer values when reporting a faulty screen.

  • My screen is very dim

My screen seems very dim on my MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, even under direct light the screen I have to strain to see the screen.

    DrBukk wrote:
My screen is also going dimmer and I have the f6 setting at highest setting. Please tell me how to adjust in sys. prefs?
F6 does not adjust the screen at all. F6 is foir the adjustment of the keyboard backlighting.
Use F2 to brighten your screen.
Under Sytem Preferences, Display pane, also de-select the Automatic brightness setting. This will permit you to adjust the display to your liking. However, it also generally consumes more battery power (if running on battery) to keep a screen at full brightness manually.

  • Replaced Broken/Cracked Screen On My T510 Now Screen Is Very Dim

Hi, I replaced a broken/cracked screen (which was working fine with backlight) on my T510 with another LCD screen and now I can't see anything unless I hold it at a certain angle in bright daylight. I've read a little around this topic and some searches have suggested the LCD convertor may have been shorted so I replaced with another but still a no go. Others searches suggested it may be a fuse that I may have blown on the motherboard, if so is this an easy fix? As I can seen the screen is working, is it something to do with the backlight? Any thoughts/advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

Backlight system consist of three components:
    1) MB
    2) Inveter
    3) Lightsource
At the moment you don't know where the fault is, so you have to test each of components. Start testing with lightsource. You write that your previous screen had working backlight. If you still have that screen, connect it to your current inverter. If backlight is working on broken screen - backlight on your current screen is faulty. If backlight is not working test another component - inverter. Here you have 2 options:
    1) Check for output voltage using Voltmeter (be sure to chek if you Voltmeter can handle HV that will be between output terminals).
    2) Get inverter from eBay or any other after-market source. Most of inverters are generic, so search by manufacturers model number instead of Lenovo/IBM part number.
If it is still not working with new adapter 0 your MB will have to be replaced.

  • Screen goes very dim after 3-minutes using Leopard

Has anyone had the same experience? I have tried all energy saving settings without success!! Its similar to the screen dimming that MBP users experience with Tiger (I could get around this by unplugging the power supply, and plugging it back in again) only with Leopard the screen goes very dark, almost to the extent that you can't see anything on the screen, and there appears to be no workaround. It takes hold without fail every time the notebook is left to sit untouched for spot on 3-minutes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's a consistent 3 minutes to lights out I'd suspect the Energy Saver setting has got 'stuck' somehow, it might be worth trying a Parameter RAM reset - hold down apple/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing.

  • My screen is very dim what do i do?

i have a very dim screen and im not sure what to do

Did you already check settings for the brightness in the Settings on the phone?
If you have set them to max, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, set it up as new device, explained here:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device

    thanks for your support.

You should be able to do a google search to find the latest firmware for that camera. Looks like it is Version 1 (and they are up to Version 3 now).
I would start by updating the firmware.
Did you set your camera to have a static IP address? I struggled A LOT with this as I am not a network type guy, but what I found most helpful was to set a static IP address on the camera (and set one outside the normal range) (I used 192.162.1.67). Rebooting routers, etc, caused all of your DHCP ip addresses to renew and change, and I *think* that I was ending up with IP address conflict of some sort.

  • IPod 4th gen's screen was glitching, now the screen is half white, but still works.

Hello everybody! I couldn't find the solution to my problem anywhere on Google so here I am and I really, really hope you guys can help me.
My iPod 4th gen has been acting up lately. Last night, the screen kept flickering and glitching. This happened the first week I got my iPod, but it stopped after a bit and it never happened again until now. I thought this glitching would stop after a bit, but this morning, I still found my iPod in the same state (if not, worse).
I think the problem is yesterday I plugged my iPod into my laptop and none of the USB ports could pick up my iPod so I plugged it into my ancient computer to see if there was something wrong with my cord, but my computer was able to pick up my iPod and so I left it there to charge. I also downloaded the latest version of iTunes onto that computer because the iTunes on that one was really old. After, I plugged it back into my laptop and it worked again. What I'm thinking is that maybe the computer did something faulty to my iPod and messed it up. I think that's what happened the first time also when my brother used my old iPod nano charger (had it for five years) to use it to charge my iTouch.
Anyways, my iPod now has a white screen in the middle and I can't see anything at the bottom, but the first half of the screen is still visible. Also, my iPod still works. I can click on apps, view photos, listen to music perfectly, it's just the screen is all messed up and everything is just super bright.
I've tried resetting it by holding onto the home and the on/off button but it doesn't do anything. I was hoping I wouldn't have to restore my iPod, but it looks like I have to maybe? Do you think I should let my battery completely drain and then plug into my laptop or something? Any suggestions besides dropping by the Apple store to check it?
    Thank you in advance.

I would restore the iPod. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults.
If still have the problem then you have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • On iPad2, the screen is very dim when opening an iBook only.

The display is normal on all settings except when opening an iBook.  I turned auto brightness off and on, but neither setting made any difference.  I first noticed the problem prior to upgrading to the latest version of iOS, and after upgrading, the problem was fixed for several weeks.  Now it's back to dim books.  Also, the Kindle books and other apps are normal brightness.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
Also, iBooks has its own setting for brightness (in the format/themes section- looks like aA in the upper right when a book is opened). But I'm not 100% sure how independant of the overall brightness setting it is.

  • IMac froze, now I can power up but can't open any applications...

Ok, forgive me if this has been asked 1000 times already, I don't have time to trawl through every post one here.....
Last night I was happily using my iMac, got a new email and when I went to open it everything froze. I could still move the mouse cursor around the screen but couldn't minimize, quit or force quit any applications. I could also not shut down/restart the system as normal. I powered off using the power button and rebooted from there. OSX started as per normal but I still can't open any of the applications. When you roll the mouse over any of the program icons it tells you what they are but won't open them. I also still cannot shut down the system through Finder and cannot force quit either.
Apple's technical "help" line has suggested restarting in safe mode etc, but is there anything else I could try to resolve the problem?

Hi Tom, what were the results of starting in Safe Mode, does that sort the problem? If it does then it gives us an idea where to look. If not try Repair Disk.
    Steps for using Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair.
If you repair errors run it until no errors found.

The problem is that if it happen to me twice in one week it will happen many time. APPLE, FIX YOUR BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
