MBP goes to sleep and only wakes up for a moment... then sleeps?

My MBP started doing this today. Open the display, it wakes up for 1 second, then it goes to sleep and the screen disappears...? I tried to reboot in safe mode but it does the same thing again. Cant get it to stay on for more than a moment... any tips?

What new features are you mentioning, specifically?
The bulk of advancements w/SL are under the hood it would seem.

Restart your phone,hold the home button and the off button down till the apple symbol comes up. If that doesnt fix it , you need to do a restore in itunes by connecting to itunes , click on your phones name to the left, then click restore in the center of the screen and restore from backup.

I assume you have checked your sleep settings in System Preferences>Energy saver
I also assume this has just happened recently and spontaneously, not after installing any particular hardware or software or you would probably have mentioned it...if anything new has been added recently, obviously just remove it!
It could be the battery - have your tried it just on mains? If it's a pre unibody MacBook try it without the battery at all. This could happen if you have a non-Apple (cheap Chinese) replacement battery.
Try NVRAM, PRAM & SMC resets (Google if you don't know how)
Try booting from the install media and repairing or reinstalling OS X. (Back up first!)
Just out of interest if you boot from a DVD or go into Open Firmware or Boot Select modes, does it still sleep after 30 seconds or is it just in OS X?

My iPad doesn't seem to charge when plugged in to my MacBook Pro if the MBP goes to sleep. My iPhone continues to charge even if the MBP is closed. Is that normal?

My iPad (3rd Gen) seems to stop charging if it is plugged into my MBP if either the iPad is closed or if the MBP goes to sleep. My iPhone charges whether the MBP is awake or asleep or even if the MBP is closed. There is a screen display that shows the iPhone is charging. The iPad only has the tiny icon at the top of the screen that show it is charging. However, the battery's % charged does not increase if the lid is closed when I am charging the iPad if the lid is closed on the iPad or if the iPad off after pressing the on off button. Is this normal?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Thunderbolt Display Turns Off/MBP Goes to Sleep in Clamshell when MagSafe unplugged

My battery is fine, but I can't use my 2011 15" 2.2ghz MBP + Thunderbolt Display in clam shell mode without being plugged into power from MagSafe. Disconnect the cable, Thunderbolt quits and MBP goes to sleep.
This drains battery by being constantly plugged in.
I updated my the TB firmware today when prompted. Problem existed before and after.
Let me know what's up, very annoying.

The internal battery could handle the extra power needed when using the external display, but OS X (or maybe the firmware) doesn't allow clamshell mode without external power.

After upgrade to lion my mbp goes to sleep when connected to power adapter

I recently upgraded to lion and noticed that my MBP goes to sleep even when it is connected to power adapter. I've set the pref to never sleep when conneced to PA. How do I make it to stay awake? Why did this change in Lion?

Acrobat X Pro is gone and only the trial for XI Pro is installed. Can I get X back?

I have CS6 Design Standard. On the seldom-booted (2x/month) Windows partition of my MacBook Pro Acrobat X Pro is gone and only the trial for XI Pro is installed. Can I get X back?
I don't know how/when/why the trial was installed because Windows is running for only a few hours a couple times a month. The most reasonable possibility is the App Manager. If it says there's an upgrade available I just click the button and pay no attention to details. I suspect amateurs like me aren't going to notice one additional character in the name, if that's what happened. If that is what happened I'll never use the app manager again for fear of replacing fully functional apps with trial versions with short lives. Of course I am open to the idea that I did else something stupid.

The application manager should not have installed a trial version and XI is not an update for X. The manager should only install updates for the existing version.
To get AA X back you will have to reinstall it from your original media.

If you mean iOS, select the iOS device in iTunes then click Update.

When I open my newsstand, it only stay open for a second then shuts down. It started after I updated my software to 6.0. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Try quitting Newsstand completely - double tap home button, delete it from the multitasking shelf - then launch it again.

HT1338 My macbook pro goes to sleep randomly and only wakes up when i tilt it

I bought my new macbook pro last june in miami and somehow it just goes to sleep on its own in the middle of doing anything.
Clicking, pressing the start button, the space bar or anything won't wake it up. Tilting it or lifting the computer would. And that's scaring me. It just did it 4 times in a row and i am just browsing the web
Anyone know if this is a hardware thing or the software is going nuts or my mac is haunted ??

Check your current setup (I left my MBP as "3")
go to Utilities > Terminal
After you launch Terminal, the first step is to determine which sleep mode your Mac is currently using. You can both view and change the sleep mode using the Unix program pmset. To see your current settings, type (or, copy and paste)
pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
press 'enter'
You should see something like this:
$ pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
hibernatemode 3

also, I enabled this:
go to Utilities > Terminal
type in sudo pmset lidwake 0 then "enter"
it will ask for your password. type it in, that's it!
Now, when your computer is sleeping with the lid closed, when you open the lid nothing happens until you press any key ... nice: keeps it off when accidentally opened, like in a backpack?

MBP goes to sleep, won't wake up!?!?

Recently my MacBook Pro has began going to sleep, either after not being used or after I shut it, and then it won't wake up and has to be restarted manually, which costs me data, time, etc.
I've researched the problem, but haven't seen anything that sounded exactly like what I am going through.
Plus I'm not the best at fixing stuff myself (lets just say I'm not going to get hired as a MacGenius anytime soon).
Help me! I'm writing my National Board Papers right now and need my machine to be reliable!!!

I have just started having the same problem. I used to be able to use the MBP for a few minutes, leave it on the table and let it go to sleep. Come back anytime and it would wake. Now it won't, and I have to go back and plug it in to get it to wake. I have just now noticed that the battery is almost drained. I used to be able to do this for a couple of days without charging, and now it won't make it 12 hours.
The battery being almost drained would explain the no wake, but now the question is why it is draining so quickly even in sleep mode. Especially when I used to tell everyone how great the MBP is, and how long the battery lasts and how quick is starts up. Of course I was telling this to all my co-workers where we are stuck with the company issued Dell.
I think this may have all started after upgrading to 10.5 or iLife08, as those are the only two programs that have recently been added.

Hello, i've read here http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20131025154203251 and somewhere else, that in Mavericks, pressing the Power Button once, puts your screen to sleep.
But after reading here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5869 seems that it doesn't.
I also noticed that by pressing it once, your mac goes to sleep, but not immediatly.
So is the only way to put only the screen to sleep is by using Shift-Control-Media Eject (⏏) ?

@speleofool Thanks for posting and congratulations on the new device! The Nexus is a great phone! Regarding your issue about waking up, this is very odd for a new device. I did some research and it seems this is not a known issue with the phone. I would recommend doing the following steps:
Settings>Apps>Choose all Apps>choose System UI>clear data>force stop.
This will stop your screen from freezing and wake up when it should. I would make it a practice to clear data from apps that give you trouble. I hoped this helps. Thanks.

Gestures quit working after MBP goes to sleep

I have a MBP running the latest software-- 10.8.1. When my laptop goes to sleep and runs screen saver, I am no longer able to do trackpad gestures of any kind after it awakens from sleep. If I reboot or sign out, the gestures return. This does not happen, or didn't before I upgraded to 8.1 when screen saver functions were turned off... It's getting to be a pain. Any suggestions?

This is clearly related to the screen saver, because if I disable screen saver, let my MBP sleep, trackpad gestrues still work when it wakes. Anyone know what is causing this?
