MBP Hangs on Reboot

After installing the latest update of Safari I notice something odd after I rebooted but I guess my machine rebooted ok. Now it appears to have shat the bed and I can only reboot OK 1 in 20 times.
Here is what happens: On a reboot, black screen, annoying gong and gray screen with LARGE apple logo and spinning wheel - all seems ok. It appears that the computer is not in the usual hi res graphics mode as the apple logo is bigger / lower res that normal. After about 30s or so computer's screen flickers orange, white and the machine appear to be locked up. Spinning wheel is no longer spinning and there is a line of blocky green character on the screen above the apple logo - I still see the gray screen with the stopped spinning wheel. Funny thing is that now I'm finally back on my machine after trying to reboot it for 20 mins or so.
I've tried the usual stuff, P Ram reset, permissions etc. Hope it's not my Nvidia 8600 GT as I know some were bad but I've had no other problems other than this strange rebooting issue.
Your suggestions peeps?

Have you tried a safe boot? Hold down shift key on boot. At login screen click restart. Let reboot continue normally.
You might check into the Safari area where many seem to be having issues with this update (I have not yet installed it, based on the reports I see there).
Some 3rd party apps and plugins such as PithHelmet raise heck with Safari. And it does not seem to always work correctly with the anti-phishing doodad turned on.
Here's the link to the Safari forum:

I wish you well.

  • After upgrading to ICS my Xperia mini (ST15i) hangs and reboot itself?

Ah I was very happy after getting official ROM of ICS but my happiness goes down very soon because now I'm facing many problems with my phone.
It is hanging most of the time at least once or twicw in a day, sometime hangs and reboot itself but sometime I have to estart it by remove the battery. When it hangs if my battery is at 90% and I remove the battery and put it back and restart it then it goes down to near about 70% or less.
Phone dial pad is very slow to open than 3rd party softwares. Back and Option key response very slow. I know this could be performance issue but this is too much.
However many apps goes to hang, mostley my browsers I wa using Boat and Dolphin HD browser and after upgrading I tries Chrome which also hangs. My phones battery drain so fast now also my phone heat too.
I tried to contact the support thorugh E-mail but still yet no reply so I'm here to ask this please help me guys. I have very slow bandwidth so please suggest me the good way to solve this problem. I don't want to downgrade but if its neccessary then I'll.

regarding the phone/dialer download Dialer One
regarding your battery life, you should check which apps are causing this
charge your phone 100% use it as you normally would then once it reaches 10%
settings > battery > take screenshots of this list an the graph, also tap on each item and take screenshots post them here
delete taskillers, antivirus, battery apps, ram apps as they slow down your phone, drain your battery and cause a lot of issues.

  • PIII Celeron hangs or reboots when "Waiting for UDev uevents to be..."

    Hello
I want to mention that the only way I can boot a Linux kernel on this machine is adding "no-hlt" option. Additionally the Arch installation image reboots shortly after the boot loader's menu is printed, perhaps due to requesting the "no_hlt" instruction.
So I placed the contents of Arch installation LiveCD on the hard drive and installed GRUB using Knoppix.
The problem is that when Arch installation image boots the system hangs or reboots on this stage: "Waiting for UDev uevents to be prcessed", or here with debug option. Sometimes it hangs 3 lines earlier, but more often it reboots.
So it's hard to recognize the exact reason of the issue.
May be I need to bypass some uevents? Or there are some failsafe boot options of Arch installation image?
    What can you recommend?

  • Upgrade to Solaris 10/08 hangs after reboot

I upgraded to Solaris 10 10/08 however the system hangs after reboot.
I had never any issues with its previous versions. Any thoughts?

To be sure I upgraded to the latest BIOS.
Both kernel debugger and single user mode do not work.
This seems like a serious issue in my opinion.

  • WLAN 4402 Access points hang or reboot

We are seeing a very strange issue in our WLAN setup. Our access points hang or reboot randomly. We have WLAN controller 4402 with 25 Cisco 1020 Access points. Our syslog server shows for some access points rebooted. While others just hang and then come back online after 10-15 minutes. We have similar code 3.2.78.0 running at other sites and everything seems to be stable, therefore we do not want to upgrade or install a new code. Any suggestions, or help will be highly appreciated by the experts.
    Thank you
    Ismail

The errors we saw were "[ERROR] spam_lrad.c 1840: AP 00:0b:85:66:77:88 associated. Last AP failure was due to Configuration changes, reason: did not get join response"
We called Cisco TAC, got the case escalated to the highest level possible, till we got hold of the actual developers of the code. Gave Cisco engineers the Sniffer packet information of the wlan controller and AP.
Finally Cisco engineer found a bug in the code 4.0.179.8 The bug will be fixed in the next release.
    Thank you

Strange, I have just updated to 10.7.1 (via SW update) on my Macbook Pro and now the system does not boot. It restarted and now hangs since minutes with the spinning wheel on a grey screen. Anyone experienced this, too? Any solutions?

Regarding the occasional system hang on reboot people are experiencing. I have two troubleshooting suggestions to help you get to the login screen, but aren't solutions to the problem of whatever is causing the system hang. 1) I find my hangs are usually solved by removing my USB devices from the 2 USB ports (via USB hubs) and rebooting. 2) Furthermore, if I boot into verbose mode (holding command+v right before the chime) (sometimes after removing the USB devices, sometimes not), that usually helps the boot process along, either due to just chance (I don't know why booting into verbose mode would help it surmount the initial hang, but it seems to work sometimes) or some other reason.
    Good luck.
Yeah that better be one big fat good luck there, because that advice is not going to help anyone that is having this problem. Not one little bit. Some kind of magic that Verbose Mode casts will fix it? Uh, no. That would be a figment of your over-eager imagination, Verbose Mode doesn't change anythig. Oh and by the way, in order to get to this stage in the probelm, you would have had to use verbose mode to get the error message.  I can only assume that you sir are the real troll here, because our friend above asked a question that is worth merit and consideration, given the compatibility disaster that Apple has on their hands. To call it a disaster is not in the least bit an exaggeration.
We're going to have to ignore This is not an "occassional system hang", this is a serious problem affecting my MacBook Pro 17" and my iMac 27"., and it occured on both of them for me after installing Lion Server.

Phone hanging and rebooting after the use of some applications like, for example:
    - video recording, the phone stops recording and reboots or stops "processing video" and reboots
    - "Global race" game. It runs for a few seconds or minutes then reboots
    - Wifi surf: after some time, reboots
I recently updated the phone to V20, before with the V12 the phone was running fine.
Of course I have "hard resetted" my phone two times, and re-applied the V20 update one time.
I've also re-formatted my two memory cards with the phone.
All of that with no success. Before I had a N70 and never have this kind of problem.
I seriously think It's a V20 issue. Is there any possibility to let it know to Nokia itself, for confirmation and correcting it in a future f/w release ?
I think you need to take it badly to nokia care points.

  • System hangs on reboot/shutdown after kernel upgrades

I've been experiencing the problem that, whenever pacman upgrades the kernel, the system hangs on reboot or shutdown.  It only happens on the first reboot/shutdown after a kernel upgrade.  I've noticed it consistently for a while now.
    To reboot, I issue:
    # reboot
    To shutdown, I issue:
    # shutdown -h now
I should also mention that I typically reboot after kernel upgrades because hotplugged storage devices (USB, SD) fail to be detected unless the system reboots.  That is, devices plugged in during the upgrade remain usable, but plugging in something new appears in /dev.  There may be an obvious reason for it that I'm missing, but it's never bothered me enough to look into it.  Not sure if this and the reboot/shutdown issue are related, though.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

When Apple Hardware Test says there is a problem, there definitely is a problem.
But like many diagnostics, it does not catch everything.
It can increase your confidence that you do not have gross flaws. The Hardware problems that remain may be more subtle ones.

  • MBP (2.33 C2D) + USB not working over time + beach ball hangs on reboots...

Over the last month I've been having annoying problems with both my left and right USB ports not recognizing any devices (mice, keyboards, usb sticks, phones, disk readers, cameras, ipods) after a few hours. My MBP does not sleep during this time. The disk is always on and the screen sleeps after 15 minutes.
The only solution to this is to reboot. But then another problem arises. I get the beach ball of doom on the blue screen just before the machine is supposed to reboot. I once left the beach ball to do its thing for an hour. Still hanging.
The only solution to the above problem was to hard reboot by holding down the power button. The problem with all this is that, I rarely get a proper reboot/shutdown, and so I always return to my computer to have all settings unsaved. Very annoying and counter productive for me.
Anyone else having the same problems? Any quick fixes available besides taking this to the Apple store (which is to be a last resort for me).

The report looks clean to me.

  • Early 2011 MBP 13 random reboots (no Kernel Panic logged)

    Hi,
    Problem Description:
My MacBook Pro randomly reboots at least 1-2 times a day. I cannot find a kernel log because each restart is a double one.
Let me explain the problem further : 1. Im doing something (nothing specific..no specific app) on the mac 2. The screen freezes and becomes unresponsive ( I know a reboot is coming)
    3. I get the gray screen which says "Your computer restarted because of a problem..." ...this is followed by the white screen with the apple sign..it loads for a few seconds and it reboots AGAIN..this time i hear the chime...loads into the OS normally ...works until i either shut it down / put it to sleep / another random restart (varies from 1 hour to 6 hours )
    Things I've tried :
    SMC / PRAM reset
    Erase Drive and TimeMachine Restore
Apple Hardware Tests / Diagnostics all pass
Verify / Repair permissions / disk (did this a million times)
    Reindexed Spotlight
Erased Drive and did a clean install and MIGRATED files from TimeMachine
Safe Mode ( THIS did not have random reboots...also fyi ..i didn't try this for long)
    Logs Data:
Since I don't have the .panic files. I am pasting a chunk of the log before and after the PROBLEM.
