MBP is missing the "Display" icon in Sys Pref, Display PrefPane file needed

Hi,
I noticed that my "Display" icon under >Hardware, in the System Preferences is suddenly missing. It should be between "CDs & DVDs..." and "Energy Saver" icons. I think I need the Display Preferences Pane. Can anyone send me a copy, I don't have another Mac to copy it from (except a really old 10 yr imac running System 9). I don't know why it is missing, but I can't calibrate my display without it. The "display.prefpane" file is located under system>library>PreferencePanes. My email address is: melissa (at) melissatobiaart (Dot) com
If anyone can send me a copy I would greatly appreciate it!

The file is part of the OS X system therefore it's proprietary to Apple. Furthermore, it's a violation of the Apple Software License to install OS X on more than one CPU at a time (for a single-licensed copy. The Family Pack allows up to five concurrent installations.)
As the AD belongs to Apple it would be against the Terms of Use for us to enable any of the above. Thus, it's both inappropriate to ask as well as to send.
That's my interpretation of the software license. You may choose to interpret it differently or even ignore it, but such actions are best left off of the forums.
I would be more than happy to inquire of the moderators and report back what they suggest.

    Hello jayanand,
You may need to force close all open apps, then restart the phone. If necessary, you may need to reset the phone after that.

New Macbook Pro, no QT icon in Sys Pref for entry of registration codes.  Need to flip mirrored Photo Booth vids and was told QT Pro was only way to do it.  Regardless, need to get icon in sys pref for reg codes.  Thks

There is none in Mac OS X 10.6 and newer. You're supposed to use this download, open the older player, and apply the key there.

I am batch processing in PS 2014 (watermark and saving as jpeg from ps file). I get the message for some but not all 'this file needs to be saved as a copy with this option'. And then I have to save it manually. Does anyone know why this happens? (It is just a plain photoshop file, a watermark is added, then save as jpeg - the jpeg is saved to a different folder than the original photoshop file.)  It happens for about 10 of 30/40  files approximately . Thank you, Kathryn

I believe I have figured it out - I need to flatten the image, even though there are no layers except for layer 0, first.

  • When I drag and drop an icon from the address bar to the desktop is does creat the shortcut but will not display the website icon, only the firefox icon, how can I display website icons?

When I drag and drop a website icon from the Forefox address bar to the desk top, the short cut is created but the icon that appears is the firefox Icon. I want to disply the icon from the website that the short cut refers to. I have checked all I can think of in my computer to no avail.

You have to assign the favicon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click the shortcut: Properties) after you have dragged the link to the desktop.
You can usually find the favicon in Tools >Page Info > Media and save the icon there.
Otherwise use the main domain of the website and add favicon.ico (e.g. mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder.

  • Missing the mic icon on keyboard ipad 4

Please, how do I add mic icon on my ipad keyboard? Thank you!

Yeah...so what?  All you copied / pasted simply shows what devices are compatibile with Facetime.  Nowhere on that link does it say there is an app icon for Facetime on the iPhone.  In fact, with regards to accessing FT from the iPhone it says:
iPhone 4 or later: You can place a FaceTime call using the following apps:
Phone: While on a phone call, you can tap the FaceTime icon to invite the other party to a FaceTime call.
Contacts: Tap the FaceTime icon to place a FaceTime call to the contact you are viewing.
As has already been explained more than once in this thread, to access FaceTime from the iPhone you get to it from within the Contacts or the Phone app.
So just accept the fact that you're providing inaccurate information and go away.

Your OS system files are damaged probably as a result of the power outage causing the hard drive to crash. With any luck the drive may be OK. If so then you can reinstall as follows:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
Unfortunately, if the drive was affected such that Disk Utility cannot repair it (nor can any of the other recommended utilities) then you will have to erase the drive and start from scratch. If this would cause an unsatisfactory loss of personal data files (you don't have backups, do you?) then there are some things you can try to recover your data before erasing the drive.

  • I a owner and administrator. I can't change any file permissions. Help tells me to 'get info' on a file, them click on the lock icon to enter password. The lock icon is not present on any files I 'get info' on. How can I change permissions

I attached an external drive to my macbook pro for backup purposes. I found that the device is 'read only' for me. I read that I could change permissions by selecting 'get info' for a item and clicking the lock icon to submit my password. The lock icon is not displayed on any 'info' window for any file on my macbook, much less the attached drive. I am the only user and administrator as far as I know. What steps can I take to change permissions? Thanks. My 1st post.

How can I tell? The 'get info' window has no lock and under sharing and permissions, on says 'you can only read'. I did a get info on the Macintosh HD and it had a lock on it but said I could only read, for what that it worth.

  • What happened to the 'stop' icon? Firefox is so slow, I need to stop cursor swirl.

I am using Windows XP PRO 32 bit on a desktop
When I updated Firefox last week....(approx 86h May, 2014) so many things changed, one of these is now the cursor swirl is going all the time, well almost...about 80-% of the time I am on FF.........before, I could use the 'X' icon (stop) to stop it....why has this feature been removed? Surely most browsers have a stop icon? Well, I'm not an expert at all, but the ones I have seen all have one, anyway....
I am not happy about all these changes....it's just made things worse, I am getting more notices of plug ins stopping working than ever before. I always thought up-dates fixed these things & made the product better, not worse....grrrrr
Can anyone tell me why it is gone, and if I can restore it, please?
    Thanks
    Sylvia

Firefox uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
*You get a Stop button during page loading that changes to a Reload button when the page has finished loading
*You get a Go button if you modify the location bar content
*Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab

  • What happened to the firefox icon on htm and html document files?

Today I have noticed it for the first time.. The icon use to look like a blank page with a mini firefox icon on it.. Now the htm and html icon looks like a blank white page that is bent on the top right hand corner.. I tried a firefox reset and it didn't help.. I don't wanna do a reinstall of firefox because I want to keep the old firefox download manager and not the new one that is on the right of the search bar.. ( I saw it on my ubuntu linux computer) BUT my computer with the html file icon problem is Windows 7 x64

It didn't solve it for me. I have tried the switch icons, uninstall and reinstall, making IE default and then back to FF, file association (there is no Program group in Control Panel in XP btw, the earlier Contributor poster is thinking only of Win7) and scanned other forums without any solution.
mhtml and html files save fine, but are tagged with the Windows default icon for a program the o/s does not recognise. This causes constant irritation because while quickly browsing data files, my eye falls on the unrecognised file icon and I pause wondering what is the problem before realising it's the Firefox error yet again.
There are FF users on other forums with the same problem too, some devising solutions which work for them but not for others, probably because computers are so individual.
I am a recent convert to Windows XP 64-bit sp2 on a new build. With my previous 32-bit machines, I had no problem. I think, like Apple, Firefox has not come to terms with 64-bit despite it supposedly being "the future." I use FF v12 because I can't stand the look of its successors. However, from browsing forums, I gather it makes no matter what version is used. It seemingly happened after v11 and continues throughout.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Missing the Apps Icon

I recently bought an Apple TV and have been using both at my home and in my classroom.  Since I first hooked it up, the icons for some apps have been missing.  The apps work, their name shows up, but the icon itself does not appear.  Doesn't change functionality, it's just annoying.  There has to be a fix to this.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • Missing the airplan icon

the air plane icon is missing on the dock.  How do I get it back

If you mean Airport, and if you are using Airport (Wi-Fi) the icon for that goes in the Menubar, not the Dock. Go to System Preferences>Network This is from my Snow Leopard 10.6, so it may be different for the OS you are using.
