MBP Keyboard troubles: cmd+c

I have an early 2009 Macbook Pro (5,1).
Recently, the keyboard combination left-cmd + c (ie, copy) has stopped working. Right-cmd + c still works, as does left-cmd + v (paste), left-cmd + x (cut), all other operations involving the left-cmd key, and typing with the c key. Just that combination no longer works.
If I call up the Keyboard Viewer and hold down right-cmd + c, both keys are highlighted. If hold down left-cmd + c, only cmd is highlighted: as soon as I press cmd, c loses any highlight it had.
I'm baffled: the fact that the cmd and c keys both seem to work perfectly independently indicates it's not a hardware problem, but I can't see any software which would disable only left-cmd in combination with c.
Any smart suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I should add: a quick test with an external USB keyboard does not show the same issue.

  • MBP keyboard trouble

    Hi there!

    PROBLEM:
Sometimes when i switching my desktops right left (control+arrows) i have loosing my keyboard sensetive all buttons except CONTROL AND ARROWS (left right). I can swich my desctops by keyboard, but i cant write something. shortcuts are not working too. f9-f12 also are not working.
Before i just reboot my MPM. But if i will push all buttons, swich my desktops go here.
After a while everything starts to work again.
I have this problem about 3-6 times a day.
    How i can fix it?
And how i can have my MBP open and one active external screen?
    Thank u

The "wireless mouse/keyboard firmware update 1.1" is for the old white plastic wireless mice and keyboards , Sean. Is the one you are trying to use one of these, or is it one of the aluminium ones?
If it is the aluminium one, then the update you might need is Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 - http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/aluminumkeyboardfirmwareupdate10.html
None of the updates should be needed to prevent the sort of problem you report though.
Is this keyboard newly purchased, or one that you have had for a while and that ahs worked in the past? It may simply be defective.
The only other thing I can think of, apart from conflict with a third party keyboard driver or the like, is a corrupted system file of some kind, in which case an "archive and install" of the OS might be needed to fix it I'm afraid.
    Cheers

  • Small Liquid Spill on MBP Keyboard... Now not working. Any Help?

I recently spilled a very small amount of liquid on my MBP keyboard (~3 drops), and now the keyboard does not work at all. Any diagnoses or solutions?? I really can't seem to believe that such a small amount of liquid could damage it so much, but maybe I'm missing something! Thanks in advance!

What you are seeing happens when the ambient light level is bright enough so the Mac judges that you don't need keyboard backlighting. If you don't agree and want backlighting anyway, download and install [Lab Tick|http://labtick.proculo.de> to gain full manual control over it.

  • Separate settings for MBP keyboard and aluminium keyboard?

I just bought myself a Apple aluminium keyboard (USB) and have to say I'm loving it. However, there is one small hang-up.
Basically, whatever key-commands I apply to the keyboard are taking from my MacBook Pro's keyboard settings and seem to have none of their own. I had gotten the impression that there was a stand-alone software to manage the keyboard but that does not seem to be the case as far as I can tell after about 30 minutes of searching the net and Apple's website.
Does anyone know a way in which I can have one set of settings for my laptop's keyboard and another set for my aluminium keyboard?

  • MBP Keyboard

Well, I am typing this up on a stupid Dell laptop, and I have a few questions about the MBP keyboard.
Are the keys easy to hit, and not all "blah" like this keyboard.
And exactly what is it like. This keyboards space bar doesn't hardly work.
    Any answers?

I have been a mac user for a long time. The best mac keyboard was definitly the original ADB pro keyboard that they stopped making like 10 years ago.
When I was in the market to buy a laptop a few years ago, I looked into the two options at the time: The ibook and the Powerbook. Believe it or not, I put a lot of weight on the feel and action of the keyboard and ended up spending the extra money ont he Powerbook. During my two year stint in powerbook land, I was continually impressed with the action.
Now I am on my next laptop, a macbook pro and I have say the action is still fantastic. The only problem that I notice with te keyboard is that they keys appear to bend at angles over time. I admit, I'm a hard typist, and so part of the warping could my typing, but I've only had the machine for a short while and at home I mostly use my external Pro keyboard (which is amazing).
Still, I think the keyboard is good, and dispite the slight warping I am still very happy with the keyboard.

  • MBP Keyboard equivalents for PC Keys?

Not sure where to post this question (OSX or here) so here goes for starters.
Are there standard MBP keyboard combinations that perform the functions of certain 101-key dedicated keys? Such as PageUp/Down, Home/End, (PC) CTRL+Home, CTRL+End, etc? I feel like I've stumbled onto a few, yet there are times (in Safari or some Mac apps) where I can't seem to move as efficiently, using the keyboard, as I was accustomed to on my PC. (I realize key combos could vary by software applications---just looking for any "typical" or fairly standard Mac key combos for easier page/screen/spreadsheet navigation.)
    Thanks!

Thanks for the link, RK... lots to absorb, and hopefully some of those might be applicable in other applications. Perhaps it really comes down to which software programs I'm using, and what the developers of those programs created as shortcut commands, since it seems that some don't handle the same keyboard combinations the same way as other programs...
(As an aside, I'm baffled why the various menus (such as Safari) still give keyboard shortcuts by symbol such as \-, for the Option Key, when in fact the MBP no longer prints all the Mac symbols on the keys themselves! (Just the cloverleaf on Command.) So you need a cheatsheet to remind you which Apple symbol belongs to fn, control, option, in order to then try and memorize the shortcut! Still, don't get me wrong---I'm thrilled with my year-old switch to Mac!)

  • MBP keyboard - similar to the aluminum 2007 keyboard sold separately?

    I love the MBP keyboard.
Does anyone know if the "feel" is the same as for the USB (wired) aluminum keyboard sold separately (which I'm considering getting for my G4)? see: http://www.apple.com/keyboard/
I wish the wired one had a lighted keyboard, but I can't find that info.
    Mrs H

I have the USB keyboard, and the feel of pressing down on the buttons is soft, similar to on the MBP, if that's what you're asking. The buttons are spaced a little further apart than on the MBP keyboard, and you get more keys (plus the fn key is on the right instead of the bottom left). A bit heavier than you'd expect, considering it's thinness. Overall, considering that I find laptop keyboards to be too cramped, causing me to mistype a lot, I'm really glad I bought the thing.
Oh, and sorry, but no backlight.

  • Mbp keyboard nonresponsive, screen freezes, ideas?

My MBP keyboard and screen freezes; any ideas on a fix?

Reset the SMC (may take 2-3 attempts) and also do a PRAM reset. Instructions are in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets. If that does not fix the problem then please post an EtreCheck report of your computer in your reply.

  • Where are Home, End, Page Up, Page Down on MBP keyboard?

I just bought a MBP-15 after spending my entire computer life with Windows.  I have a fairly sophisticated spreadsheet that I created in Excel that I now want to use in Numbers.  But I'm hung up on the simplest thing - Home & End.  I've read other postings and guides related to the keyboard, but everyone else seems to indicate that there are already Home & End keys (and Page Up/Page Down keys) on the keyboard.  I have none - at least none that I can find.  I just have the standard MBP keyboard, including the F1-F12 function keys (plus fn, option, control, command, & arrows).  All of the key remapping posts talk about their use in text like a Safari e-mail.  For spreadsheets, Windows lets me take a formula in 1 cell, ctrl-c to copy it, then shift-end-down and ctrl-v to paste that new formula to the end of the existing column.  How is this done in the Mac world?  Very frustrating so far.  If it matters, I'm using Numbers '09 with Lion.  Any and all help appreciated.

    Home: fn-left arrow
    End: fn-right arrow
    Page Up: fn-up arrow
    Page down: fn-down arrow
Actions in Numbers may not match those in Excel.
"For spreadsheets, Windows lets me take a formula in 1 cell, ctrl-c to copy it, then shift-end-down and ctrl-v to paste that new formula to the end of the existing column."
(Enter and confirm the formula in the initial cell if it's not already there.)
    Select the initial cell.
Scroll to the bottom row using the thumb on the vertical scroll bar.
Shift-click on the bottom cell to select it and all cells between it and the initial cell.
Go Insert > Fill> Fill Down.
    OR
Select the initial cell (containing the formula)
    Copy (command-C)
Scroll to the last cell as above.
    Shift-click on the last cell.
    Paste (command-V)
Numbers design model favors documents containing several small single purpose tables, not large ones. The maximum size of an individual table is 255 columns by 65355 rows. In practical terms, then limits are much smaller in terms of deteriorating performance speed.

  • New to mac, want to know more about the new MBP keyboard

What is the difference between the previous and current MBP keyboard?? besides the color??
Thanks for telling me, I really wish to know more since i saw some people are not happy with it.
    thank you very much

By default the contentPane is a JPanel with a BorderLayout.
    When using:
myFrame.getContentPane.add(new JDesktopPane());the desktopPane is added to the Center of the BorderLayout. When using this approach you can still add you statusBar to the BorderLayout.SOUTH. The statusBar is completely separate from the desktopPane. This is the option I prefer.
    When using:
myFrame.setContentPane(new JDesktopPane());you are replacing the contentPane with the desktop which would mean you would need to add your statusBar to the desktop directly. This means as you display internal frames they can be painted over your statusBar

  • Keyboard Troubles (MBP 15")

    http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7659/photo5wr6.jpg
I took my keyboard apart to clean it. I put it back together and everything worked perfectly, except the Alt and the Ctrl keys. Both of them, the tiny grey circular plastic springs ripped off of the plastic sheet under the keys.
I cannot get them to stay put long enough to put the keys back on. My question is:
Will glue hurt the keyboard? How else do I fix this?

Try using a tiny bit of adhesive for flexible plastic or rubber. That should work.
Let it set before popping the keycaps back on.

  • MBP keyboard and track pad not working

Today the keyboard and track pad on our mac book pro laptop just stopped working. The mouse connected to it by usb continued to work but we can't type or anything. We tried the ^F6 keyboard shortcut but it did nothing since of course the keyboard isnt working. And it is also not the number lock key. The computer was working fine all day up until now. It is just under a year old. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. It appeared yesterday and then magically "repaired" itself. My MBP was fine today. Tonight the problem is back. No response from the keyboard and track pad. Track pad works fine using a USB mouse. My problem appears at start up. The cursor is in the usual upper left hand corner. It can't be moved. Restart, sleep then restart do not solve the problem.
