Tons of messages. What can I do, what are the out comings, can I trust a new Mac? This is the question.
~ regarding, Karl

As long as everything is working normally, you can simply ignore these messages. Alternatively, you can run Disk Utility from within the Recovery System: that will probably fix the permissions permanently.

  • Reinstall Snow Leopard on MBP late 2007 with damaged display

    Hey,
small question to a not-so-small problem: Is there any way to reinstall Snow Leopard on a MBP with a damaged display? I know a potential buyer, but it doesn't make sense to sell him a notebook without os... I already tried to use an external screen in the hope it would just clone the content from the built-in one, but it uses it as extended desktop...
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

The point is that the display is damaged, like i wrote That's why the screen isn't working anymore...

  • HELP...   Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep.

HELP...   Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep. I straight away uninstalled Deep Sleep, but the problem has increased.
Now when I try to awake from sleep, a grey screen with the apple logo appears with a progress bar underneath it, which slowly moves to the forelast indicator, then it stops and a audio signal starts.  Three bleeps and pause.
Then when I press the on/off botton and restart the system, the underneath error reports appears with the heading  RAPPORTD unexpectedly failed.
    Can any one help?

  • MBP late 2007 what just happened?

I have a 2.66 late 2007 early 2008 model. I was burning a bunch of home videos on to dvd and it just shut off. Not two weeks ago I did an erase and install of 10.6.2 and all was great. Now When I turn it on after this incident I get the chime and then the apple logo. Then I get the circle with the line through it. I am guessing it is the hard drive. How do you know if it is the hard drive or the logic board that has failed? Is there a test to run? Can I use a usb drive with a bootable 10.6 image on it to tell one way or the other? I really appreciate the help!

looks like darwin cannot access the root files on the hard drive, whose directories may have been corrupted in the burning process (personally I won't install 10.6.x until at least release 4 or 5, after reading the reports on Ric's Ford Macintouch at http://www.macintouch.com).
IMHO, if the motherboard went kaput, you'll have no chime and no flashing Apple icon before it shows you the "no passage" sign.... but then I've been proved wrong before (grin).
A quick unix alternative to the Mac way iVmichael suggested would be to test mounting the drive in *single user* mode by holding down the S key while powering on. If you get a black screen with white blurb running down by itself, you're almost home run.
The white blurb would stop at something like:
    localhost:/ root#
Type right just after it (you may have a blinking dot or not at this stage)
/sbin/fsck -fy [note there is a space before -fy]
    and hit Return key.
You should see the low level fsck utility going about its business and checking file extents, directories, links, etc, which is extremely good news (these are the unix workings behind Apple's logo and spinning wheel at start up).
If the list is short you'll get a "The disk yourdrivename appears to be OK".
If fsck finds trouble, and it will surely find orphaned or invalid links and directory counts, etc., it will attempt to repair the problems and it will report a FILE SYSTEM MODIFIED ofter a successful repair (just follow the writing on the screen, it's kinda fun . At this point press the "up" arrow key on your keyboard, which tells the unix shell to repeat the operation, just to be on the safe side. Wait through it and if you get a short list ending as described above, type reboot or exit in SL.
If all went well, you should get your drive back after normal GUI boot up. You should run Disk Utility's Repair Permissions after a normal boot.
If not, then invest in DiskWarrior (http://www.alsoft.com) and / or TechTool Pro (http://www.micromat.com), as both come with MacOS X booting disks and try the revival from outside you mbp. TT Pro can run actual hardware & file system diagnostics on your mbp, even down to components.
    Good luck
I'm no UNIX head, but I find myself doing this routine almost every time I have to restart or do a cold boot.

  • What is the correct replacement optical drive for MBP late 2007?

    Hello all,
I am finally getting around to replacing my failed SuperDrive, a Panasonic UJ-857E.
Reputable online resellers say the Panasonic UJ-867A will work.  I bought one.  It will not work, because the ribbon cable connector is a different shape than the connector on the original drive.
Local Apple store tried to order a ribbon cable that would work, but determined there is no such cable:  there is just no way to connect the UJ-867A to this MBP.
They kindly offered to get me a drive that will work from Apple, but $180 seems a little steep to me.  I asked them for the model / part number of this new drive, but they have so far declined.
Does anyone know with certainty what drive I should be looking for?  The MBP is late 2007, model # A1226.
    Thanks.

  • MBP - late 2007 - external monitor stopped working

I have a late 2007 MBP pro, 17" monitor.  I have been using a 30" dell monitor (3007WFP) as an external monitor for home use.  It has been working fine for 4 years.  Last night the monitor stopped waking up from sleep and now only gives a blank screen even after reboots.  The monitor seems ok ( it goes through the self-test routine normally), and I have tried different cables with no success.
I have tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM  on the MBP but that too did not fix it.
The monitor has an orange LED light on the power button indicating the power is connected (though it is not blue which would indicate it is receiving a signal).  It also recognizes that is has a DVI hook-up (or else it would repeat the self-test).
The MBP detects the external monitor (or at least seems to - it is listed as a display and allows me to choose a resolution, although obviously that does nothing since the monitor is completely black). I haven't yet been able to get another laptop or monitor to test the other components to make sure the monitor is ok.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you

Your on the right track when you said "I haven't yet been able to get another laptop or monitor to test the other components to make sure the monitor is ok.".  Also include a different cable in that scenario, if you can.
    Ciao.

  • MBP late 2007 startup problem - Help!

I have an MBP from Nov. 07 that only displays the magnifying glass search icon upon startup. When I restarted in safe mode, I download the latest firmware update and installed it carefully following the instructions. When my computer automatically restarted, it still only displayed the magnifying glass search icon. So here I am in safe mode, without a clue what to do to fix my poor MBP. Help!

If it starts up fine in "safe" mode, amandamuses, it is very unlikely to be a hardware issue (though there are a couple of situations where airport card or bluetooth problems can cause such things) .
If it isn't directory corruption, (follow the process with Disk Utility suggested by PBookie but "Repair Disk" as well as "repairing permissions"), then my next step, before checking things like RAM, would be an "Archive and Install" of the OS. THis will usually resolve situations where a computer will start in "Safe" mode , but not in the normal fashion.
If you have any peripherals attached (especially third party keyboards or mice, USB hubs, external hard drives etc) you should also disconnect them while you are "troubleshooting".
    Cheers
    Rod

  • MBP 15" 2007 with internal monitor off, main monitor signal on external monitor

My MBP 15" 2.2 2007 2 MB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8600 internal monitor has no video after startup.  If I connect my Apple Cinema Display to it, the video of the main monitor is on it, and the internal screen stays off.  If I hit the "Detect displays" switch, nothing happens.  I have tried the following:  reset PRAM and NVRAM, reset SMC, repair permissions using Mac OS X Lion Disk Utilities, and Onyx software as well.  I have also formatted the MBP and reinstalled MAc OS, and the problem persists.  Can anybody help?  Many thanks in advance

No problem... happens to all of us.
Glad it was simple - you wouldn't have liked my next few suggestions!!
    Thanks for the star...

  • Imac 24" late 2007 with image persistence -- any fixes that worked?

So there seem to be quite a few people with screen burn-in/image persistence on their imacs. I am one and I have tried Apple's solution as documented in:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2807?viewlocale=en_US
I've tried the white background for a few nights, no go. I also always had screen sleep set to 10 minutes.
The image persistence I get look like left over text/window borders and smudges much like these:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulbeattie/3672732489/in/set-72157620740779954/
I have also tried jscreenfix and LCDscruber on various patterns for a few days now and I can't get rid of these artifacts.
I suspect heat may be part of the issue. If I leave the imac off overnight and turn it on in the morning, my screen is fine. Wait a bit for it to warm up and the image persistence is back, however, turning up the fans failed to resolve the issue. Room temp is not bad -- about 26c. I've also tried cleaning out dust, but that didn't change anything.
Has anyone with this problem actually gotten it fixed? What worked?
Message was edited by: taii: Just to add, the location is just about dead center and spreads out roughly 4 inches in any direction. This puts it around the hard disk. The hard disk temp is 58c. The CPU and GPU temps are at 49/63c. The power supply is at 78c. This seems a bit high? The powersupply is in the upper left corner though and there is no image persistence in that area.

    Hello
I don't have any exact figures as how much the temps went up as i didn't monitor it that closely before, as everyone who owns a iMac knows they can get quite hot.
Last night when i checked the temp on the GPU was 78 degrees celcius and i belive that thats a good 8-10 degrees more that it normally was with Leopard.
If i try and hold my hand behind the screen to the left where i believe the power unit is located it gets to hot for me to keep my hand there for more than a few seconds at a time.
I don't have the other numbers available right now but i can post them tonight when i get home.
I also had the problem before Snow Leopard but not as bad as with Snow Leopard. When i was using Leopard it normally took quite a long time for the problems to occur. I almost only got them if i wasn't using the computer and the screensaver or power saver for some reason failed to start, it was also quite easily fixed by just activating the screensaver or powersaver for a while.
    My conclusion is as follows:
    1. The iMacs has probably always had persistance problems.
    2. The iMacs gets quite hot
    3. After Snow Leopard the Imacs gets even hotter and this affects the percistance problems so that they grow worse
All this accordign to me is clearly related to the hardware itself, i.e poor cooling, poor quality components and so on, nothing points to this being a user or usage problem and i therefor think that apple should address it accordingly.
I'm in Sweden and my nearest Apple Store is quite far away and getting hold of someone at apple in sweden to discuss this matter with is easier said than done.

  • HT201364 I have a Macbook White Late 2007 with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. 4GB SDRAM & 500GB Storage running OS X Lion. Can I Upgrade to OS X Mavericks

    Any help for this

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Mavericks needs a Late 2008 Aluminum or an Early 2009 or newer MacBook, so your Mac is not supported. You are running the latest Mac OS X version for your MacBook.

All this has started in the last few days.  Fine (if a little slow, too long on beach balls, but nothing like the one minute rolls I'm reading about ...) up until then.  Only new update was last iTunes update! and I haven't opened iTunes?
    any ideas?

  • MBP late 2013 won't connect to TV with HDMI cable

Yesterday I connected my MBP (late 2013) with a SCEPTRE TV using an HDMI cable and it worked perfectly.
I wake up the next day and try to connect it again but the TV says "No Signal"
I didn't touch the set up in any way so nothing changed physically.
    Please help

  • Black screen after upgrading ram (macbook pro late 2007)

    Dear Community,
I am willing to donate 100 USD to anyone who is willing/able to provide concrete resolution to this problem.
I am a professional freelance videoeditor and my job is currently stucked due to inability to boot my macbook pro again.
After upgrading the RAM of my MBP (late 2007 model, 17'' display, Intel 2.4GHz Dual Core processor), the screen went black and the system did not boot any more.
    I tried to replace the orginal 2 x 1GB DDR2 533 CL=5 SODIMM (single rank) with 2  X 2GB DDR2 800 CL=6 SODIMM (dual ranks).
After the memory upgrade, the system was restarted, I heard a short beep, but the macbook showed a black screen instead of booting properly. The mainboard was powered, the fan was moving. I saw a green led turned on on the center of one side of the macbook.
I tried to mount the previuos 2 x 1GB DRAM SODIMMs, but nothing happened. The system keeps not booting even with the original memory.
I tried already several procedures suggested by the user manual, related to SMC Intel controller reset (with battery and without battery and charger), but those were not effective in restoring the normal operation of the macbook. The system keeps not booting with exactly similar issues (black screen, fan on, short beep after power-on, green LED on).
I also tried to swap the memory DIMMs into the memory sockets. I tried to use a different combination with 1 NEW 2GB and 1 OLD 1GB  DIMM. But the problem is still there with similar sympthoms.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE OF HOW TO SOLVE THIS?

My best guess is that you have fried the RAM with static electricity charged up in your body. According to OGELTHORPE a beep on startup is because of no RAM, if when installing you did not do it correctly, you could have fried the RAM, which then your mac will not recognize it. The same with the old RAM, if you tried to re-install it and didn't pull up your sleeve and rest your arm on the inside of the chassis, then it is fried, or if you didn't wear an ESD band and connect it to the the chassis, then it is fried.
Seen as though you can't startup your mac, I can't say to do an AHT, buy some new ram, and start with the lowest one you can, so its cheap for ya use a different company incase is that;) Crucial.com is really good, I got an 8gb upgrade from 2gb. Let me tell you, it's great!
    Reply back;)

  • Retail Leopard fails to install on Late 2007 MacBook

I had need to wipe this machine clean and attempted to install a Retail version of Leopard. When I boot from the DVD, I get the message:

I don't see why it won't install. I bought my MBP late 2007 just after Leopard came out because I wanted to run Tiger. Mine qualified for the Leopard upgrade DVD which had 10.5.0 on it. I recently installed Leopard and everything went well. Are you certain you have a retail version and not the upgrade DVD? With the upgrade DVD you need to have Tiger installed to use it so I don't think you can wipe the drive clean. 9A581 is the version that comes on the upgrade DVD. you should be able to do an Archive & Install or an Upgrade.
Did you install Leopard with the upgrade DVD that came with the computer? That's not the same as the retail version.
The basic rule is that the Leopard DVD must be either the one that came with the computer, or a newer retail version.

  • How to enable SATA NCQ/AHCI in MacBook (Late 2007)

I am planning to upgrade the HDD to a bigger SATA-2 model.
I would like to ask does *MacBook (late 2007)* with *Mac OS X 10.5.2* natively support NCQ / AHCI ?
Do I have to enter the BIOS to *enable the AHCI* function of the HDD?

They all have a bios but you don't access it like on an old windows installation. If the drive is compatible, it will work.
Wrong, EFI is NOT BIOS. They are two separate things. They do the same job, but EFI does it more efficiently due to the fact that it is a lot newer. You do not require BIOS to run EFI, or the other way around.
This sounds more like a semantic discussion rather than the original poster's query whether or not something needed to be done in order to access a larger drive. Perhaps he used the term "BIOS", but we all know there have been means of updating the firmware on MacBooks, even if it isn't a traditional BIOS reflash.
