MBP mid 2012 crashing, is it the video card?

Hello. I have an mid 2012 MBP with an Intel 4000 graphics card. I think it is causing the computer to crash.
I recently re-installed Civ 5 which ran great last fall. At first it ran OK, then after a few hours of game time my system crashed during a time when the monitor went to sleep (I was walking my baby). This happened a few more times then crashed while open. The system froze and the image was overlayed with some squares consisting of black, green, and lavender bars. At first this only happened when the game was open. The when I tried to reboot I got the beep-beep-beep alarm that means bad RAM(?). So I ran an AHT and it came back fine for RAM and CPU if I understood how to interpret it correctly. Also the system crashed once or twice when the game was not running.
I have tried a partial RAM reboot, a system controller reset, upgrading to 8 GB RAM, and partitioning my hard drive and installing the game in the other partition. If I knew how to get crash logs for the ?panic kernel? I would. Actually, I'm trying to get into code writing and IT so this is pretty interesting. Here is the report i got from EtreCheck

If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.
OOW try the following:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

First, you can install Microsoft's Security Essentials in the Win 7 VM and keep it up-to-date. Second, you can turn off Sharing in Fusion's System Settings to keep the VM environment separate from your Mac. Third, you can look into Sophos Anti-Virus http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-ed ition/download.aspx for the Mac host.

hi i have a macbook pro 13 inch mid 2012 i noticed that the speakers are not that loud unlike before,
now when i play music or videos, the sound is not the same unlike before, then my brother noticed it too because he has a macbook pro 13 inch late 2011 as well, im just wondering whats the problem? the speakers on my bro's laptop is still loud, mine is becoming not that loud much unlike before, tnx!

Check your settings in System Preferences>Sound.  If that does not help, perform a PRAM reset.

If that does not solve the issue, then a trip to an Apple store is in order.
    Ciao.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs or so, then the machine shuts down and restarts.

My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs, then the machine shuts down and restarts. This sequence will repeat seemingly forever unless I shut it down manually.
I upgraded to Yosemite from Mountain Lion a couple months ago, skipping Maverick completely, and I've done any associated updates that Apple told me about. I don't recall which version of Yosemite I have, but I'm sure it is the "latest and greatest".
I've tried re-starting in Safe Mode / Safe Boot and that does the same thing as described above except without the endless restarts. Instead of restarting at some point, SafeBoot proceeds to the white screen and then it hangs until I restart it manually. (I've waited as long os 20-30 minutes with no response).
When I tried the option-command-p-r key combo I never get any chimes or other noises besides the original 1 time boot sound that you would expect to get when starting up a macbook pro.
I was using the mac quite normally (meaning I was doing work I normally do on it and there was no indication of anything wrong) immediately prior to this happening.
The machine is BootCamp(ed) with Windows 8.1 which I use from a VMWare virtual machine instead of natively so that I can have both OSes running at the same time. I also think this is unrelated to my problem. I have been using this setup for more than 2 years.
My upgrade to Yosemite was uneventful and I thought it went well and was very smooth. I don't want to lead attention away from Yosemite, but at this point my problem does not seem related to the upgrade.
    Any help is appreciated.

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Hey everyone,
I want to install windows 8 32bit on my mac pro (mid 2012). I upgraded the windows 7 I already had, but now I dont have drivers at all...
I searched drivers for the windows 8 32 bit but couldn't find any...
    Any solutions guys?
    Thanks a lot.
    Sincerely,
    Chiponn

There's been an update for OSX ML which addresses the issue for installing Windows 8 on bootcamp.
It's NOT recommended that you Upgrade.. However, the way to get the drivers is:
You'll need an external USB drive formatted as FAT for this.
    1) In OSX, start the Bootcamp Assistant
    2) Press Next
    3) UNTICK 'Remove WIndows 7 or Later Version'
    4) TICK Download the Latest Windows Support Software from Apple
    5) Insert USB drive
    6) Press CONTINUE
The drivers should download, and copy a WIndowsSupport folder onto the USB drive.
I did notice that Windows 8 still requires beta drivers for some aspects such as VGA (the Radio HD Card), which you can get on the AMD website.
Futhermore, why are you using Windows 8 "32" bit when you blatently have a powerful 64bit?
Anyway, hope this post helps ;-)

  • Kernel Panic - It's the Video Card or What?

I've been experiencing this since the last week, i'm using the Macbook Pro (Running Lion 10.7.3) and at one moment the screen start to flicker (Look at the photo) and then shows the Gray Screen of Death. When i turn off then ON, the Macbook Pro screen goes with the apple logo but Pink. After some attempts i can finally boot and use it for about a day and then it does it again.
This log is from yesterday, for me it's very strange because i havent installed anything, i refuse to think it the VIDEO CARD.... because when it works it just work fine.

I read online that some mac products in 2011 were put on the market defective , you can get a warranty extension or even a replacement mac?

  • Is it possible to change the video card of a pavilion g7-1075dx?

So, I have an HP Pavilion g7-1075dx Notebook with Windows 7. I'm an avid gamer and wish to play the newest games. However, there's one problem thats keeping me from doing so. Alot of the newer games require newer video/graphics cards. This particular laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. The newest games seem to require ATI Radeon HD 4850 and above. This is the only thing thats keeping me from playing games like Starcraft II on the highest settings OR in the case of Star Wars: The Old Republic, it almost keeps me from playing the game, period, due to the graphics being too much for my current card to handle, causing massive lag. I was hoping I could change the video card. Upgrade. However, i've heard that with most laptops or notebooks you can't upgrade anything other than the RAM. I'm hoping anyone on here can help me out and tell me if it is possible to get a new video card for my laptop. We don't have a desktop computer so this laptop is my only hope for a long time to play newer PC games.

Alright, let me put this in a simpler message: Does anyone know if it is possible to change the video card currently in my laptop, the HP Pavilion g7-1075dx, for a newer and better one. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 to ATI Radeon HD 4850 or higher.

  • What are the video card requirements for running a 23" cinema display

What are the video card requirements for running a 22" cinema display(clear acrylic case) w/ a PC? My motherbaord is AGP. Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi Lionel,
As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

  • Can I attach an external monitor to my iMac G5 (ALS) if the video card is dead?

I don't know for a fact that the video card is dead, but the screen on my iMac (PPC/ALS) 20" gradually started flaking out over several months and is now dead. Computer boots up fine and I'm looking at it through target mode right now.  I want to keep using the computer if I can, so I am wondering if I can attach an external monitor through the DVI slot even if the video card is kaput.  I'd like to get an opinion or two on this before I buy a used monitor and cable.  Thanks!

You have found the answer. If the video chipset is OK but there is a fault in the internal display or its cabing, an external monitor will work. However, if the video chipset--which is farther "upstream" in the system--goes bad, the option of an external monitor is off the table.

  • Can I upgrade the video card in my 2009 iMac with the new ATI 2 GB VRAM card?

I am looking for more video RAM for video, CGI and animation work in Blender.
I may purchase Final Cut Pro X in the near future and I need to make sure there is enough video RAM to be able to work with this version of FInal Cut.
I, currently, use Final Cut 4 Express and though this runs fine, through Rosetta, on my current setup, I fear this much newer version may need more graphics power than I have, now.
I, also noticed some lag when working with Blender.
No where near as much graphics or video/animation lag as when I using Blender on my old G4m but it's still slightly noticeable.
I realize I may have to install this myself.
Can I purchase, somewhere, Apple's 1 or 2 GB ATI card seperately or from a third party vendor and install, myself.
I have seen posts that tell that the 27 inch iMac has a removable video card and is not soldered to the logic board like in the 21 inch models.
If true, is there a complete procedure for the iMac breakdown, installation of the video card and reassembly procedure?
My iMac only has the stock 256 MB VRAM graphics card.
If the take down looks more difficult than I feel I can attempt, I have an Apple authorized reseller, repair facilty here, in my area.
Could I purchase the card and have them install it for a fee?
ThanX for all of the info and advice, in advance
    Michel

You will need to check if your model originally was offered with a custom build option that included a different graphics card. If so, you may be able to have it done; here is a fellow who managed to do it on a 2011 iMac (graphics card not soldered) and the model originally offered a better card option:

    Is this yours:
    http://everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-3.06-27-inch-alumin um-late-2009-specs.html
In particular, click on the link in this section of the specs:
I'd check either with Apple and/or an AASP to see if it can be done with yours or if yours is one of those where it is part of the Logic Board/soldered to it.

  • My hp m8100n freezes so I want to replace the video card

I bought this computer a few years ago and lately it's been freezing a lot (pretty much freezes 5 mins after I turn it on). It's to the point where I have to press the power button and turn off the computer.  I'm actually not sure why but this tends to happen when I'm trying to watch videos online or just playing games (even solitaire).  I've updated all the drivers from the website and that doesn't seem to work.  I read on some forums that this is a problem with the video card so I want to replace it with another computer's video card but I know nothing about computers.
I'm wondering if anybody could tell me if I have to know anything before I go and plug in another video card. I know the m8100n video card is on the motherboard, do I need to disable it before I install the new card? or can I just put this one on?  I just don't want to break the computer.
The video card is ati radeon x1600 pro 256 mb and I'm pulling this from another computer in my house (that comp's dead so I'm pulling parts out and using it in other places).

    Hi,
    Many things can cause freezes.
If you are using a wireless keyboard and/or mouse then replace the batteries.
You might be having a heat issue.
    Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any.  You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink and the system fan.  Plug your PC back in and give it a go.
Don't install the ATI Radeon x1600 pro 256 mb video card as it needs a bigger power supply compared to the 300 watt power supply in your PC.
