MBP not coming back from Sleep in Retina MBP

Hi. I've recently bought a new Macbook Pro. Everything is working great except one problem with the Sleep.
Sometimes, when I try to wake up the Mac from sleep, everything stays black and I have to turn it off. I've been able to reproduce this by doing the following:
1) Connect the MBP to power and put it to sleep by closing the lid.
2) Disconnect the power while asleep
3) Open the lid.
Does anybody know if this is Software or Hardware?
Thanks and regards,
Gonto

  • Satellite P850-30W - Fan does not run after coming back from sleep mode

    I got a Toshiba Satellite P850-30W with bios 1.90.
Sometimes the fan does not run at all after coming back from sleep mode on windows 7.
This has happened twice (maybe more times without me knowing), and Ive had the computers for a month.
Normally the fan starts running when the CPU gets over 50 celsius, and stops under 50 celisus...
I tried running Prime95 when this fan-issue occured and the computer temps got dangerously high (close to 100 degree)! the fan did not start at all
...this error could potentinally damage the laptop...
to get the fan running again I have to restart windows
    anyone else experienced this?
I guess the fix would be to never use sleep-mode...or toshiba needs to fix it with a bios update.

What kind of answer do you expect here in user community?
Exact info about the fault? I dont think that somebody would be able to provide exact answer but just speculations
In other Forum you can read about Satellite notebook; but is it exacts the same model?
No, it seems to be an L650 series. Its completely different series .
From my opinion its not software related problem.
    BIOS issue?
Well, in case it would be a BIOS issue, the problem would appear always and not sometimes after being shut down 200 times.
It could be a hardware related issue. Memory? Maybe
In my personal opinion to get more details hardware diagnostic software should be used in order check the hardware for possible malfunction. Thats my personal opinion

  • After upgrading to 10.6.6, major problems coming back from sleep mode

I updated my macbook from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 and now it is unresponsive frequently after coming back from sleep. The computer stops responding and I have the spinning beach ball on the screen forever. I couldn´t find any correlation with the programs I am running.
I used Onyx to clear all caches, rebooted, etc but nothing seems to help...

I have the same issue, I've found though that it seems to happen only if i goto sleep mode after logging out of my mid-2010 MBP. As long as I remain logged in and put the MBP to sleep it does not lock up with the spinning beach ball.
This lock seems to happen just as I click on my name to login after waking my MBP from sleep.
I have no peripherals, except maybe the power adapter, but it seems to happen regardless of if the power adapter is plugged in. I've done repair permissions in safe mode as well as disk scans.

  • MBP 17 2009 LCD does not turn on after coming back from sleep

    Hi,
    I feel like crying.
I bought my 1st Mac 3-4 days ago and I have not regretted anything more than this.
1st some mov files that Quicktime windows can play but Mac does not (feel like pulling my hair why as the videos with same settings taken with same camera before I got the mac work perfectly from flash drive.
2nd the nVidia 9600m stopped being detected no matter what I did, next morning it magically re-appears (alongwith many things that vanished magically for e.g. options on right clicking images never came)
3rd the MOST BUGGING AND CONSISTENT
I close the lid, it goes to sleep. It has never come back from sleep. The screen will never turn on. Then I force shut down keeping power button pressed. And even after 2-3 restarts the screen doesn't come up. I wait for 2 min and then start. It starts working.
    ANY IDEA WHY?
I use a usb mobile braodband modem (Huwaeii telecom's) and have a silly feeling maybe that might case something. But even that doesn't.
My next guess is temperature. I am working in 30-40 degree celcius room temprature range. Maybe that is it.
I think Mac is overrated and it breaks my heart saying that as I spent $2300 over it which is a HUGE amount in my part of the world. I needed it for Final Cut Pro.

I am sorry I do not understand the response. You're saying this is a known issue? Or are you suggesting/asking "IF" it is an OEM issue?
Because the whole problem I have is the "IF". I am not able to comprehend what is the problem.
And Yes the machine is 6 days old. Calling technical support doesn't help.
Apple doesn't look obsessed about customer satisfaction in India (My Luck i bought it from the only iStore in my area, hope they correct it).
The nVidia 9600M is sometimes there sometimes not. Lately even simply starting the machine does not make the screen turn on.''
Is there a debugging to-do list? Oh I am so "OS X"-impaired.
    Thanks,
    Rachin

  • Error: ME is in recovery state (also does not come back from sleep)

    Hi,
my name is Ifor and I bought a Lenovo X220 (4290-44G) exactly 2 years ago.
    The following happened:
-I noticed an error while booting. The screen said: ME is in recovery state. After that I noticed my computer won't wake up from sleep after I closed the lid. So I installed a fresh windows 7 ultimate install. All the drivers have been downloaded from Windows Update or the Lenovo site.
The error still is not fixed, so I updated my BIOS with the newest .iso file from the Lenovo support site. The error still persists!
Also, my processor gets really warm and my screen sometimes flicker. I've had no problems or what-so-ever before.
All I found was this link and I updated my bios already: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19456189.aspx
I would be really grateful if someone could help me.
    Kind regards,
    Ifor

Same problem with my T420. The Intel(R) Active Management Technology - SOL (COM4) doesn't work either.
Fresh windows 7 pro installed, latest BIOS from Lenovo, flashed CMOS, installed drivers with Lenovo system update software...

  • 2008 iMac, display not coming back after sleep, requiring SMC reset and more.

I have a 24" 2008 iMac that's recently started giving me migranes starting a couple weeks ago. It's the kids' shared computer in the bonus room, and one of them comes in and tells me it's not working. I go in, and it seems like it's off, but I can hear the fans going. Won't respond to mouse, keyboard, even hitting the power button that usually pops something up warning that I'm about to shut it down with people still logged in. So I hold the power button down to force it off, wait a minute, and turn it back on. I hear the superdrive sounding like it's trying to load a disc, but there's nothing in there . . . keeps making that noise again and again. No startup chime, no display, nothing, just the superdrive sound. Can't get it to boot. I come to the support site and go through resetting the SMC - unplugging it for 15 seconds. That at least takes care of the superdrive sound, and I get the startup chime, but no video.
I go a step further, unplugging it and plugging it back in while holding the power button down for 10 sec. When I hit the power button after that, it comes on, display nice and bright, but the fans are now running full speed. Another article tells me to reset the SMC for that, which I do, and now the fans are working properly and the system is working again.
Problem is, I wind up having to go through this whole thing every other day. If I follow the steps of unplugging it, holding the power button down while I plug it back in, turning it on and booting up, shutting down and resetting the SMC to make the fans slow down, it will work. But it's random as to when it happens, and I'd really like to know why it could be happening and what I can do to fix it for good and not have to go through the whole thing to get it back up and running. Is it simply on its last legs? Do I need to restore the OS (Snow Leopard upgrade)? Do I need to take it to the Genius Bar and pay them to look at it and diagnose it, and God knows how much to fix?
Or, do I recycle it and just bite the bullet and get a new one? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
    Andy

the first thing to try is resetting the pram/nvram

if this doesnt work it could be a loose display cable.

  • MBP will not wake up from Sleep

    Hi,
I installed Leopard successfully on Friday, and since then, my computer does not wake up from sleep about 50% of the time.
When I open the lid to attempt to wake it up, I hear the normal CD drive clicking sound (not the best way to describe the sound, but I don't know how else haha), but the screen just remains black. I cannot tell however, if it is a) waking up and the screen is remaining black or b) not waking up at all. The only way to remedy this is to hard to a hard shut down with the power button and then to power back on.
Anybody else experience this or know what could be causing this? I never had this problem with Tiger in the 5 months that I had it on my MBP.
    Thanks for the help!

Just installed Leopard on my original 15" MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. Last night, I had several applications open (Safari, Transmit, Timbuktu Pro) set up in separate Spaces. I closed the lid to put the machine to sleep. The sleep light was pulsing normally.
This morning, when I opened the MBP, the screen came on ok showing the last Safari page I was on and the Airport Indicator showed that it re-connected to my wifi as normal. However, the cursor was scrambled (the was a vague set of dots but no arrow where the cursor should be). This "scrambled cursor" moved around the screen when I moved my finger on the trackpad but the computer did not respond to any mouse clicks or keyboard input. I tried commandoptionQ to force quit but no luck. Eventually I had to press & hold the power button to force a restart & the computer then started up normally.

  • Just upgraded to OSX mavericks on macbook pro mid 2011 version. Having a big issue here that whenever my mac comes back from sleep, i.e after I open the lid, the screen flickers and there is an error of Finder not opening properly. Any fix to this?

Just upgraded to OSX 10.9 mavericks on macbook pro mid 2011 version. Having a big issue here that whenever my mac comes back from sleep, i.e after I open the lid, the screen flickers and there is an error of Finder not opening properly. Any fix to this?

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • MBP Will not wake properly from sleep-flash of screen and keyboard for a bit every few seconds.  Under guest account, wakes up just fine.  I also cannot unlock various padlocks to change settings in e.g. system prefs. security?  Any help, I'm dyin!

Not waking up from sleep-flashes lighted keyboard and screen, and I cannot unlock the padlocks in the system to change settings, look at keychain, etc.

Still cannot unlock system prefs/users etc.   Also, many applications are returning errors like:  "failed to obtain the necessary authorization"  or " '' failed to obtain permission" so I've attached a portion of my log, showing when I attempt to unlock (or click on the padlock) in system preferences - User Accounts:

  • My Outlook prompts for password every time it comes back from sleep or started

I've Microsot Outlook for MAC 2011, version 14.4.1 installed on my MAC Book Pro Retina Display with OS X Version 10.9.2 and everytime my outlook comes back from sleep or is started or there is a little fluctuation in Wifi signals, prompts me for my email password. I checked the option of save my passord, deleted all previous passwords from Keychain but it doesn't works, so please help. My email at my official domain (not free domains) address is configured perfectly and my send and received is working fine.

I have that problem in Outlook, too. When I get the Yes/No dialog box, I simply click "No" and my machine continues to receive mail.
It's most certainly a pain, but coming out of sleep, your network doesn't kick in for a minute or two. I don't think that it's really a bug in either OS X or Outlook: it just takes that minute or so for the network to wake up.

  • Green pixels on external monitor with MBA coming up from sleep?

Has anyone else experienced green pixels on external monitor with MBA coming up from sleep? I can get rid of these pixels either restarting MBA or switch off the monitor for a five secs and then switch it back on. These pixels do not show up within screenshots.. or neither on MBA own screen but they do reappear on external monitor (used with mini DP-DVI-adapter) after every sleep cycle.
http://ssh.nbl.fi/~nbl4264/gp/ (few pics where these green pixels appear on)

I have the same issue with my new macbook.
When i wake the computer from a partial sleep the screen flickers and i get line distortion through the image.
If i put the machine to sleep unplug the mini dvi adapter and replug it in and wake the computer up the problem disappears.
The issue is also intermittent doing about 3 times out of every 10 wake ups...
If anyone has any suggestions it would be great, I a using a new Dell 2208WFP monitor.

  • Satellite U400 wont turn on & when on wont come back from sleep mode

I have a Satellite U400 and its a year and a few months old.
In the last little bit it has been acting up, and it started with when the computer goes to sleep and goes to the black blank screen it will not come back from that.
The only way to do anything is hold in the power key till it turns off and then turning it back on. This brings me to the warning screen I have turned my computer off incorrectly. It has been doings this for a few weeks and started randomly out of the blue.
Then just today it wouldnt turn on at all, I was pressing the power key and the key itself would light up, and on the bottom right hand side the little lights would light up but wouldnt turn on, I kept pressing it over and over and over again and finally it did turn on. Once on I only used it for a few mins before turning off again and then would do the same thing, I kept pressing the bottom till it turned on. Its been on now and hasnt turned off again.
Not to log ago I had to reformat my computer due to me forgeting my password and had locked myself out of the computer. About a week after that is when the issues started. I am not all that computer smart, to be honest, I do understand something things, I can follow step by step to do something.
I really dont want to pay to have it fix I want to just do it myself and soon as its in great shape and never had any issues before.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be, or why it could be?
I am thinking about reformatting again as I am worried that didnt work out right the 1st time or something.
Or if this is something that needs to be repaired does anyone have a clue on the cost of it?
    Thanks ^_^

    hi aev270,
sounds like a serious problem to me.
try the following: take out battery, cd-rom, hdd and try again.
if it starts up without this components - you got lucky!
this means it probably a software issue (but i dont think so - sorry)
do you see the toshiba logo / bios messages? no - the you are in trouble.
this strange behaviour could depend on many things: defektive components like ram or grafics... or (badest thing) the mainboard...
if you have still warranty on it you should go to a servicepartner having the system checked.

  • Sometimes when I open my laptop back from sleep, I get a black screen with the cursor showing.

Recently I've been getting this weird problem where my macbook air will show a black screen with only the cursor visible that I can move around but nothing else can be done to get to the desktop. The only way is to close the lid and wait for around 10 or more seconds and then open the lid again to bring the laptop back from sleep and hope that the laptop goes to the lock screen and then to the desktop. This works often but sometimes the only solution seems to be to restart the laptop. This also happens when I tilt the lid to the point where it is almost closed and when I tilt it back the screen presents the above state. Theis has been happening often now and it is almost impossible for the above not to happen atleast 2 to 3 times a day. iThis is a relatively new problem that has been occuring since the past two weeks or so and never happened to me on my Macbook Pro 15 2011. My current system is a Macbook Air 11" 2013 Haswell 1.3 Ghz 4GB RAM 256 GB SSD. Now I dont want to have to send in my laptop if I dont have to if there is a way I can solve this myself. Anybody else have this problem?

    Hello tseten,
I would be concerned too if my MacBook Air was not waking from sleep appropriately.  For an issue like this, I recommend resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
