MBP not displaying to external monitor at startup, but does after login

After I installed Yosemite my MBP will not automatically display to my external monitor (HDMI) when I start it up. I have to first login to my MBP and then my external monitor is immediately recognized and my mirroring desktops works as intended...as it did before I upgraded to Yosemite. I have no idea why the signal to my external monitor doesn't/will not work upon system start up. Anyone out there know??

Did you find  a solution? I have the exact same problem. I just install Yosemite and did not have the problem before.

  • MacBook will not display on external monitor in clamshell mode

    System information:
    13 in. MacBook (2.4Ghz Intel 2-Core)
    10.6.7
External Display connected with Apple DisplayPort VGA adapter
    Apple Wireless Keyboard
Generic wireless mouse that connects to a USB stick plugged into the MacBook
This is dirving me nuts because it was working perfectly until about 2 weeks ago. I was following the pocess outlined here. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
    Here is what happens now:
MacBook display and external monitor are in mirroring mode. All devices are powered on and plugged in.
Close MacBook lid. MacBook goes to sleep. Blinking LED.
Hit spacebar on the Apple Bluetooth keyboard. The LED changes to steady on. However, the external display never shows the desktop. I've tried Command-F1... nothing.
If I open the lid again... the MacBook goes back to sleep.
I then have to pull out the DisplayPort VGA adapter to wake the MacBook up again.

You could try resetting the SMC and see if that helps.

  • Early 2011 15inch MacBook Pro not displaying on external monitor

I have an early 2011 15 inch MacBook Pro and I tried to connect it to a Samsung U28D590D 4k display.  My computer is recognizing it as a monitor and saying that the output resolution is 2560x1440, which is what I expected considering my graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB and my chipset is an AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256VRAM.  I just don't know why its not displaying on the monitor.  Any help will be very appreciated.

i did manage to get a little step further and get my mac to ask about resolutions but it still won't appear on the monitor

  • T530 - Dual boot not displayed on external monitor when docked

    Hi,
I just got my new T530, loaded all my applications and data from my T61. The T530 is connected to the 4338 docking station.
I have Win 7 on the internal disk, and Win 8 on the ultrabay disk.
Dual boot works fine when undocked, but when docked and the lid is closed I don't see the dual boot selection on the external monitor and the PC boots into Win 7 (which is my default OS).
When cold or warm booting I also don't see the Thinkpad splash screen.
I did not have this problem with my T61 when docked. There the splash screen and dual boot selection was displayed and I was able to select which OS I want to boot into.
Any ideas whet I can do here?
    Thanks

As I came across this it's a matter of the two graphic cards and how they are shared.
The Intel always drives the Laptop-Display and the analogue port, the digitalports at the docking are all driven by the Nvidia Card.
The splashscreen will always be displayed with the intel card and therefore not be visible with the digital ports at the docking.

    Hi a,
Check the setting in Sys Prefs > Displays.
Try a different adapter and/or cable.

  • Elements Organizer 8 - some WMV are not displayed properly in the Play Video but are in Play Vide

    Hello:
Elements Organizer - some WMV are not displayed properly in the Play Video but are in Play Vide on Full screen. What's the problem? Wrong codec?

Because WMV's can contain a lot of flags, like DRM, they can exhibit odd behavior, indeed.
Usually, AV files will display in their native resolution, i.e. in their set Frame Size/Aspect Ratio and with their set PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), but sometimes those flags are missed, or are altered by other programs.
Remember, WMV's are designed to be streaming delivery-only, and are not intended, or designed to be edited. Most NLE's (Non Linear Editors) will allow them to be edited, but will require extra processing to do so. As is mentioned, WMM is designed around editing that delivery-only format, but most others are not.
There are many other formats/CODEC's, that ARE designed to be edited by the vast majority of NLE's, such as DV-AVI Type II's.
The best workflow is to NOT bring WMV's into the mix, unless one is using WMM exclusively. Converting those to an easily editable format/CODEC will always be the best course of action.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Page not displaying in Safari and Internet explorer but showing up in Mozila

    Hi,
I bought this pre-made template which I would like to use for my website. When I upload it to my website and try to open the pages like "Contact us", "News", "Team members" and so on, they are not displaying in Safari and Interner Explorer, but they DO show up in Mozilla. Also, the pages I created myself do show up in all browsers. I really need to fix this problem as I already put a lot of effort to create my web site and now it is not working online. I would really appreciate some help. Here is the link to the original template:

For cross OS browser compatibility (and no "embed" tag code) you should consider using javascript:

Actually it sometimes gets a little further, the display will dim and the pointer will appear and then whoop it will turn off. if i do a verbose start up, it will finish all the steps, the white screen will appear and dim and then it will turn off.

iPhone 4S will not charge. Can see battery icon but does not charge

    Hello Kbeaty531,
The following article provides some good information and useful troubleshooting steps for situations where your iPhone appears to not be charging.
iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
If you see the image below, charge the phone with an iPhone USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
You should see this image when iPhone begins to charge:
If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning iPhone off and then on again.
If the issue persists, try resetting the iPhone while connected to the iPhone charger.

Why does the content of my emails not show on the main Mail page but does in the Inbox list of all emails?

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • MBP will not connect to external monitor

I am using 13" late 2011 MacBook Pro. I used to be able to connect it to an external monitor, but recently, I have not been able to.
When I plug it into the monitor, the screen on the MBP will flicker blue and freeze, but the computer never detects the monitor.
I have tested the HDMI cable, and that is not the problem.  Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

    Morning aeck692,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573
It may not hurt to reset the Mac's parameter RAM.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
    Hope this helps,
    Mario

  • MBP not connecting to external VGA display

    Hello everyone,
I have an issue with my MBP (13", Mid 2009) and my external monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 2343NW).
I'm connecting the display using a simple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
The problem is that it is not a consistent issue. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I set up the external monitor as the main one (when it is connected), but since the very beginning I did this, I had problems setting the screen resolution. Sometimes it recognised the optimal resolution and used it, but sometimes it did not, it used something like 1024x768 and I can't set the appropriate resolution in the Preferences Panel since it is not available.
Some of the latest times I tried to connect the display I tried to wake up my Mac with the lid closed (using a usb keyboard to wake it up) to force it to try and connect to the display. But now even this "trick" does not do anything (the Mac just wakes up and lightens its own display, even if the lid is closed).
Also, when I connect the VGA cable to my adapter, the monitor turns from its "no signal" message to a black screen, while when I connect the adapter to my MacBook, it does not react in any way (does not show the typical "light blue screen" that usually says *I'm connecting to some external display, wait a second*)
I also have another Mini DisplayPort to HDMI that I use to connect to other peripherals, and it works fine..
Also, the monitor works fine on another PC.
    So.. I can't understand what's going on!
    Whay would you suggest?

    Hi,
HDMI to VGA cable won't work, you need a converter to convert from digital to analog. The following device is one example:

  • Win XP SP3 Doesn't Boot Up on New MBP When Not Attached to External Monitor

Ok, here's a weird one for you.
New MBPro 15", bought 45 days ago. I created an NTFS partition, and successfully installed Win XP, and with the updates, got it to SP3.
When my laptop is connected to my Acer external monitor, it boots up fine. It takes a while (45secs to 1 minute) to even get to the Windows loading screen (unlike my wife's 13" MB which is nearly instantaneous to load Windows), but it does eventually get to Windows.
However, if I'm not connected to the monitor, it may/may not get to the Windows screen, but it never gets past it. E.g., it never lets me get to the login screen, or to the actual windows desktop itself. My only recourse is hard booting it and going back to Mac OS.
I've erased and created a new partition and reinstalled WinXP once, to no avail.
I'm guessing it's a video driver issue given that it works when plugged in to a monitor (although when plugged in, i have no issues with display on the laptop or monitor).
I have the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT display adapter. I've also installed the suggested NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator. (I can't think of anything else that might be at issue in terms of drivers).
I was going to just go in and disable drivers, although I think that may be high risk, so I thought I'd check with y'all.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Same problem here, spent half the day figuring out what was causing this, now I find another victim. Here's what fixed it for me: Restart WinXP with your ext. monitor connected, login to admin acct, go to "Start" menu>Control Panels>Printers and Other Hardware>NVIDIA Control Panel. Expand the Display folder on the left side and select "Set up multiple displays", then select the "Use only one display" radio button and make sure your laptop display is entered in the "Select the display you would like to use." box. Approve the changes and now it should restart without the ext. monitor connected.

  • MBP not displaying on HP ZR24w monitor

    Hi
My 2011 MBP recongises my HP ZR24w monitor (see pic below). But it doesn't display on the monitor. I have connected it via a Neet Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. I've rebooted, switched sources on the monitor, toogled between mirrored display in system setting etc. No joy...
Update: Forgot to add... The monitor is usually my main monitor on my Mac Pro and was working this afternoon, so I'm sure the monitor is working.
    Any help greatly received
    Thanks
    Wayne

The driver download pages for many HP products are currently down, but you can download the full featured Windows 7 x86 drivers for the Officejet Pro 8600 n911 from HP here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40120/bi-108858-3/OJ8600_1315.exe This may not be the latest version and for the firmware update you will need to wait for the HP site to get back up or you can do a firmware update from the front panel of the printer assuming the printer is connected by wired or wireless LAN (not USB).

  • Windows won't display on external monitor on MBP

I've tried every combination of the Windows ATI control panel (w/BootCamp), but I can't get output on an external monitor (mirror or extended desktop). The computer thinks the desktop is extended, because I can move windows out of sight in that direction. The only time I see something on the other monitor is in OS X (works fine) OR during boot of Windows - I see the Windows XP boot screen.
    Anyone have any success?

Since I heard other people had DVI
connections working, I tried that, and it worked.
Then, I plugged an analog monitor back into it, and
that worked too! Seems like it just needed a kick
    (weird).
I too have tried all manner of combinations and restarts to get Windows XP output to SVGA data projector. I get picture during windows start up and then it disappears - never to return once XP has loaded.
What order do you use to link up all the bits? is there a way to toggle external monitor in XP via boot camp on a Macbook Pro?
