MBP not reading my galaxy s2 and sd cards

Hi Everyone,
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII unfortunately and since I have updated to 10.8 ML it keeps showing on my computer that the disk is unreadable, it also does this with the SD card so I can't put anything on it and tonight it also won't read a DVD, also saying it can't read the disk.
I know it's ML as my iMac is still on Lion and reads the phone, SD card and DVD. Has anyone had a similar problem???
Thanks in advance.

The gold standard for determining whether or not a problem is being caused by software is to perform a system recovery, which reverts to the original factory software installation.
The knowledge base article at http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Recovery-Options-Creating-or/ta-p/268269 has all the details about how to do that.

  • CD/DVD drive does not read all DVD formats and regions

    Hi
My Teac-dw-224e-a does not read all DVDs formats and regions.
It does read CDs but no DVDs at all.
Not DVD-R and not even regular DVDs. I have checked the region of the DVD.
I have reinstalled the driver and also tried with different software.
    What can I do?
    Please help!

    Hi
It is possible that your DVD drive has wrong region settings.
In this case it is not able to watch all possible DVD movies from different regions.
Of course you can change the settings 4 times. But after this changing the settings are fixed and its not possible to change it anymore.

That error message suggest you have a permissions issue. Make sure you have full read/write privileges for the Drive/ Folder location that you are copying the files to.

  • MBP Not Reading HSF+ External HDD/Bootcamp Win7 Is ?!?!

Hi - this is a strange one to me. After creating separate partitions (NTFS/FAT32/HFS) for my LaCie Ext-HDD, I been able to shuffle data between my Mac and PC computers (teach in a lab). However, one day - for no specific reason - all drives except FAT32 would not read. But what's more odd is that the HFS is readable only in Win7. What's more strange is that the NTFS drive is not, and is only readable in OS X (via some 3rd party software).
Has anyone experienced an HFS HDD that's not readable in OS X (Snow Leopard)?
Any advice on how to retrieve my data in OS X (the BC-Win7 is not large enough to support the data transfer) ?
    Thanks so much in advance!
    ACV

I have a similar problem... tried to install winXP on an external HDD (read in FAQ after there you are not suppose to ><)
anyway after I installed XP my mac cant find any bootable partitions (had OSX 10.6.3 and Win7 working perfectly)
the wierd thing is when I boot off the intallation CD I can only see the Win7 partition and it says its empty.. even after I removed the HDD from my mac and hooked it up as an external HDD to my mac desktop the Win7 partition came up empty aswell but the mac partition was nowhere to be found...
I really need my data back from my Mac partition I dont really care about what was on the Win7... please someone tell me there is a way!!

  • Firefox 4 will not not download statements from bank and credit card sites like pervious fire fox releases

I have a Mac Pro Laptop and I can not down load bank statements or credit card statements to my download folder using Firefox 4. Your earlier versions would down load those files directly into my download folder. I would like to reload the last version of Firefox but there is no place to do that. I need to be able to down load these statements. Because these companies have requested to go paperless and I saw no reason not to comply you have now put me at a very interesting position sense I can not save my statements through the internet using your browser. Please let me know if you are unable to correct the problem so I can find a browser that will work.

Nothing happens when I try to download file. They are PDF file or files that can be open in Adobe Reader

  • MBP Not reading certain CDs

    Hi,
We've just bought a brand new 2GHz MacBook Pro with an extra 512Mb RAM installed (by Apple). After dutifully downloading about 400Mb of updates, including upgrading it to OSX 10.4.7 and downloading a firmware update (everything went fine), we started to play around with it.
First disk I put in was a Futurama (Season 4) DVD - Apple DVD Player asked to confirm the region selection and said that "The region could only be changed 5 more times" - the disk played fine through both DVD player and Front Row.
Next, I ejected this and put a music CD in (Jools Holland: Swinging the Blues, Dancing the Ska), but the MBP just spat this out. Next, I tried the Office '04 Student Edition installer CD, and after about 3 mins of clicking and whirring, this got spat out too. Thinking we had a dead CD drive on our hands, I tried 3 more music CDs - all worked fine -opened up in iTunes and Front Row and played fine. I even tried the installer CD for Photoshop CS2 and this worked fine, so did the Mac OSX Installer DVD (only software DVD to hand...). A CD that was burnt on our G4 Tower also worked fine
I tried the two problem CDs in my G4 PowerBook (OSX 10.4.5), and they worked absolutely fine.
I've done the basic troubleshooting things - reboot, repair permissions, reboot again, create another user account to see if the problem still exists, and there's no change - the two CDs keep on getting rejected by the MBP.
What's going on here - is there an easy way to resolve this problem without taking the laptop on a 3 hour round-trip drive back to the Apple store? Everything else about it's fine - there is a slight whine but nothing at all to moan about (only noticable when actually listening for it). Are there any prefs files I can trash?
The MBP has the SuperDrive, whereas the PB only has a DVD/CD-RW Combo drive.
    Thanks for the help

The region limitation is explained here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60183
While there are some region free DVD players, none of the ones I've seen on Macs are.
Also Macs don't support Copy Protected CDs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106882
Disks you've created on media which is not compatible with the drive may also pose a problem:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58641
I've also found a lot of bad media out there. Media stored on spindles have a tendency to last much shorter than media stored in jewelcases.
The fact the Office disk got spat out suggests the drive or the disk in question may be becoming dirty.
While there are disk drive cleaners out there, if your machine is under warranty, I'd recommend you stick with having AppleCare take care of it. Note, with notebook computers you often don't have to drive anywhere. Just call AppleCare, and they'll ship you a box to have it repaired by their service center. Before you do that, backup your data, and be sure to keep track of any case numbers they give you.
    As for your MacBook Pro:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303365
is recognized as something to contact AppleCare about.

  • New MBP not reading *SOME* DVDs

    Hey guys,
I became the proud owner of a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro yesterday, and absolutely love the thing. However, one small problem.
For the most part, it does play discs. I've watched several DVDs, have installed iWork, used the AppleCare disc, installed VMWare Fusion AND installed XP as a virtual machine. The problem is that a select few DVDs won't work - out of 50 or so different seasons of TV shows, the only two to do it so far are Disc 2 of Family Guy Volume 6 and Disc 1 of American Dad Volume 3. The computer will sit there trying to read them, it keeps spinning it every ten or so seconds as if it's trying to mount it, and in the end I just have to eject it - it never gets recognised and isn't displayed in Finder, and isn't recognised in XP via VMWare Fusion either (all DVDs mentioned are Region 4, by the way, which is the region that DVD Player is set to already).
However, the discs are recognised and play without fault in my April '08 alu iMac...
I'm thinking that it's the discs themselves, and that the superdrive in the MBP simply can't read them, as it has no problem reading any other DVD, these two are the only ones doing it. The OS X install DVDs are recognised, by the way.
Should I be worried about it being an actual problem with the superdrive?
Message was edited by: Ivan P

Given that 48 of 50 discs are read correctly, the likelihood seems high that the discs that won't play are at fault. The drive in the MBP may be slightly more sensitive to minor dirt or damage than the other drive(s) in which those two discs are read properly.

  • IPhoto 11 v9.4.2 not reading JPGs from camera and crashing

it reads the first 3 or 4 then stops dead in its tracks. when i hit 'stop' it says the device has been prematurely ejected! then the circle just goes round and round and nothing loads then it comes up with 'can't read this type of file' - and they are all JPGs!

It sounds to me like there is faulty hardware here - the cable or the USB port on the camera or the Mac. If the link to the camera is being broken during import then it's likely that the database has been damaged.
First off, try and track down that hardware issue. If not you will continue to have the problem.
To try and fix the Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Imac will not read a cd rom and I cant eject it!!!!! Help please

I have bought yesterday a new imac 24 inch with snow leopard. I was loading my music and pictures so I inserted a cd in the drive. The icon does not appear on the desktop so I can not open it or drag it in the recycle bin. I have tried to use the eject button on the keyboard and that does not work. I tried all other suggestion on this discussion board:
I put it to sleep and then woken it up with the eject button. Did not work.
I Logged out user and tried eject button. Did not work.
I tried to restart keeping the mouse button down but I got a blue screen with the spinning wheel for ages.
Now the imac will not shut down anymore unless I push the on/off button for few swconds (if I try through the apple menu I get the blue screen for ages with the spinning wheel).
I went on the disk utility in applications and tried to eject from there. I get a message that says I should close the programmes that are using the disc.... but there aren't any as far as I can see.... Any ideas????? Thanks

I posted this twice in error and the issue was resolved thatnks to advice in the other post.

  • TS1292 After I scratched the code on the iTunes gift card I could not read the whole code and I do not have a gift receipt, What do I do to redeem my card?

After I scratched the back of my I Tunes card, I couldnt read all the code numbers and do not have a gift reciept, what do i do to redeem my gift card?

If the page that you posted from doesn't help then you will need to try contacting iTunes Support (you will probably need to give them images of the front and back of the card, normally I'd also say the receipt but you can see what they say) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes

  • MBP not reading CDs or DVDs under Windows/Bootcamp

Well after searching the net, talking on the phone to Apple for near an hour, and visiting a licensed repair shop, I still have no idea whats causing this problem.
Basically I bought Windows XP SP2 and installed it on a partition last August. Everything worked fine, then I upgraded to SP3 to enable it to run GTA4. Since then, it has refused to read any CDs or DVDs, although they ALL work fine in the Mac partition. As I didn't need discs to run the programs I had installed, I lived with it until yesterday, when I decided to reinstall Windows, giving it a bigger partition. The first part of the process went without a problem, however when it booted up in Windows and asked to reinsert the disc to continue with the install, it did what it had been doing before, and refused to read the disc. (it was the same disc I had used originally - thought I'd throw that in there).
So now I'm stuck with a half installed Windows partition with no way of getting ahead. I have updated my firmware, upgraded to 10.5.8 from 7, done a hardware check, and nothing has changed. The fact that no one seems to know what is going on doesn't help! Has no one else had this problem? Would really appreciate some help!

    Hi Joey
    Reset the iMac's SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
then restart with PRAM and NVRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    and test the Disc Drive.
The early white Intel iMac models had 17, 20 and 24" display sizes and the aluminum Intel iMac models only come in 20 and 24" display sizes?

  • I moved to a new place I am trying to connect my Apple TV to a new tv, I connected to power and hdmi but my tv is not reading the Apple TV and my Apple TV light is on all time and can't turn it off by remote

how to connect my apple tv

It's possible the TV doesn;t support the same rersolution as before.
Does the LED flicker when you press remote keys?
If so try holding menu and up arrow together for 6 seconds to cycle display resolutions.
If possible try a different HDMI cable/HDMI port.
If all fails you may need to do a restore as described here:

  • My ipad3 w/ camera connection kit will not read my SDHC Class 10 memory card.  Should I try directly from the camera or does ipad not support class 10?

Connection kit will read class 6 cards but not class 10???

I use an 8GB SDHC Class 10 card & it works with my iPad 2. Make sure the 30-pin adapter is fully seated into the side of the iPad.
Here's another way. Import the pics to your computer. Then you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
