MBP - not recognising digital camera/CD/DVD

Awhile ago I was unable to burn my brother a CD - I thought nothing of it until I tried to upload some photos from my digital camera and play a DVD tonight.
My MBP didn't burn to a CD, it does not recognise any digital camera (they work on a Windows computer, checked correct wires etc) and I have tried to watch a DVD but it doesn't recognise anything. I can hear a whirring noise which restarts every few seconds as if the MBP is trying to read the DVD, but nothing happens. I can't even eject it.
I am hoping that I may have just pressed something idiotically. HELP!

Nothing annoying about a "bump", Chris. It is easy for an unanswered query to slip off the front screen and get forgotten about. Often, in fact, if someone doesn't give a post a "bump" or post more information people assume that the problem must have been resolved by the poster. Unfortunately many people don't actually let others know that their issue has been resolved.
Have you tried accessing the camera through iPhoto or Aperture yet, rather than looking for the card on the desktop?
The DVD drive issue may well be completely unrelated. Dirty lenses, ageing lasers and incompatible media are probably the three most common causes of DVD drive problems.

Premiere Elements 4 or 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows XP 32 bit.....Yes
Are you set up with a FireWire (iLINK) connection for this DV Data capture?
Yes, as indicated by the 1394 connection statement.
From the screenshot, it appears that you only have 77 GB free space at the save location for the DV data capture. Can you point the Captured Video and Captured Audio to another save location with more free hard drive space?
Have moved to 300GB free space. no success.
Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" for Premiere Elements 4 or 8.0/8.0.1?
worked a few years ago marginally probably on Prem Elem 4.0.  Have rolled-back NVIDIA drivers to 296.10 dated 14 June 2012 with no success
As background if needed, please review the following Adobe document on Capture
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b7 9-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2.html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
Although it targets newer versions, the principles should be applicable to Premiere Elements 4 and 8.0/8.0.1.
    Have read, no fixes.
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
Have removed NVIDIA card and am using on-board DVI port. Prem 8.0 still reports "Microsoft Dv Camera" and not Sony as other programs do. What causes Prem Elem to not report Sony DV camcorder?
    Thank you, will keep trying.

    Hi Sylvia's iMac,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you need to reset the administrator password on your computer. Please follow the instructions in the attached article for information on how to complete this process. The article has instructions for Snow Leopard (10.6) and earlier, but there is also a link within the article for assistance in Lion (10.7) or later.

  • MBA (mid 2013) and Cisco Jabber Video client not recognising any camera

The Cisco Jabber Video client is not recognising the internal Facetime HD camera nor the external USB Logitech Webcam C920.
This was not working from the beginning. Cisco is aware of this issue and promised to deliver a fix in the next release of their software.
After installing the 10.8.5 Update from App Store and the 10.8.5 Supplemental update the Cisco client was able to recognize the external camera.
After that I followed a hint to install the Combo update this should enable Skype to recognise the Facetime HD camera. After installing the Combo update Skype was able to recognize the internal and external camera (by the way the quality of preview video using Facetime HD was brilliant and much better than the internal camera of a MBA from 2012). BUT after that update the Cisco client was no longer recognising a camera.
I run a recovery installation of 10.8.4 - but the result was again a 10.8.5. If I try now to run a recovery install I only get a recovery of version 10.8.5 offered.
I did a SMC reset, a parameter RAM reset, tried to start in saved mode but nothing helped.
Any other ideas how to get a least an external camera working again with Cisco Jabber Video?

Similar problem here. I have a Logitech C615 camera/microphone plugged into my MAC mini running OSX 10.9.3. Today, JABBER could not find the camera (although it found the microphone?). I was running 4.5.7 and so downloaded v4.8.6 and reinstalled: no camera. I also downloaded the cloud version: no camera.
I was not running either Vidyo or Polycom RealPresence at the same time as JABBER
But, when I did run these apps, my camera & microphone both work.
    Suggestions?

  • OSX not recognizing digital camera

Suddenly, neither iPhoto nor Image Capture are opering with or recognizing my Canon digital camera when I connect it. The camera has worked with both programs flawlessly until now.
I've changed the batteries in the camera and have tried the connector cable in both USB ports on my MacBook Pro, no luck. I don't believe there's any preference in my camera for choosing whether the device will appear as a hard drive when connected to the computer. There aren't any error messages, other than in Image Capture: "no camera or scanner detected." More detaiil:
    - version of iPhoto '09: 8.1.2
    - version of the Operating System: Snow Leopard, 10.6.8
    - 13" MacBook Pro
I'm in the process of repairing permissions through Disk Utility. Any other ideas in case that doesn't work?
    Thanks!

Okay--after repairing permissions and restarting, removing the image storage card and putting it back in, the finder does recognize the camera. Whew! I really didn't want to reformat the card and lose my photos!

  • MBP not recognising DVD+R DL

My computer is fairly new, I got it around march-april 2008 and every time I insert the disk it spits it back out. Ive tested and burnt the disks on other MBPs without a glitch so I know its not the disk. Any solutions?
this is the info in system profiler
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-867:
    Firmware Revision: HA13
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO

    1. no one knows. I would imagine before the end of the year.
    2. because there was no dual layer slim enough to fit in the case of the MBP, the one they went w/ is the fastest single layer available on the market that fits.

  • My first gen 3g iphone photos are not recognised by camera wizard - it sees the phone but nothing else no files - it is not locked - ?

I have a new 4g Iphone - Telstra (Australia)  disabled my old 3g and enabled the 4g so the 3g is just enabled to show contacts and photos etc.
I want to download my photos and contacts from the 3g.  trouble is that my internet is dial up only at home and impossible to use as too slow.
So my itunes is now out of date (not current module 10.5 + etc.) and the 3g phone is also not operating on the latest ios.
BUT the itunes does sync the phone - but it seems to only sync from computer to phone - so my camera roll on the 3g is not on my computer - therein lies the dilemma - I don't know how to download the photos.  I cannot update the ios on the 3g and it seems that might be reqired to "back up"
So first question is how do I back up (not sync) my 3g to itunes.
Do I need to updates its ios first and update iteuns first (in which case thats impossible)
So what else could I do.
It seems the other thing is that even if I could back up the 3g the Itunes won't recognise the 4g as the 4g is ios 4 or something and the itunes is not up to date.
SO I thought I should just use camera wizard or a photo package like iphoto or kodak easy share.
But with camera wizard my computer recognises the 3g phone BUT nothing else.  It is greyed out for options, and ini Windoes Explorer it shows it as a camera but when you right click it has no "properties" - and no files show up at all...
it is like it seems the camera and then nothing else.
    THE CAMERA is not locked.
    WHAT shoudl I do?

also - when I use camera wizard it just tells me the phone is busy or in use  and I should retry.
If I use it through windoes explorer - it shows me the camera to computer symbols and a line moving between then but bombs out saying camera is busy.

  • MBP not detecting video camera via FireWire 800

    Hey all,
I bought a MacBook Pro late 2008 mainly for video editing. Also, I purchased a 3rd-party FireWire cable because Apple doesn't distribute them here in Singapore (-_-).
I've tried many times to connect my 2 video cameras to my Mac and NONE of them turn up in iMovie. It can't possibly be the cable because the store sells them to many people because Apple doesnt distribute them and none came back complaining it doesn't work. And us Singaporeans will go to lengthy methods to get back our money if products we bought don't work.
My 2 video cameras are both Panasonic and they are
    NV-GS90
    NV-MD10000
The first one is a small one while the second one is a professional camera.
If the cameras can't connect then my whole purpose of purchasing the Mac is defeated. I called Panasonic and they said that it should work fine with the Mac, no drivers needed (Applecare told me to check with them for drivers).
Anyone can provide a solution? T-T

While you were in the store, did you connect any other FireWire devices to your computer to find out whether or not your FireWire port is working? You should certainly do that at the first opportunity, now that you've effectively eliminated a bad cable as a possible cause of your problem.
You may also want to run the Apple Hardware Test that you'll find on one of the discs that were shipped with your MBP. That may be able to identify a problem with your FireWire port.
Apple generally doesn't make or sell cables — there's not enough money in them. Apple leaves that market to third-party vendors, who supply them at lower prices than Apple could or would. And FireWire 800 is far from new: all or most new Macs have had FW800 ports for more than five years now.

  • Skype not recognising web camera

I have tried everything to get skype to recognise my web cam again. It used to work fine in a previous version of skype but now nothing seems to work. I have tried reverting back to an earlier version and only get the message "page not found". Skype does recognise the microphone in my camera so I am able to do NO VIDEO calls, but I have seen sooooooo many complaints about this problem with sooooo many ideas from people trying to help and NOTHING works. The suggestion that going back to an earlier version is STUPID. You tell me I have to go back in time to fix YOUR **bleep**up. All I want to do is use Skype free to call video like I used to be able to do. Why does this program recognise the mic in my camera and NOT the camera.......... My suggestion is that Skype should be promoting OTHER free to call programs from other companies, as they dont seem to care about what caused this problem to happen to so many people, and seem uninterested in fixing the problem.. I am running Windows 7 on a desktop and laptop. If anyone can help please email me at [Mod edit: Please do not include personal/private information when making a public post. Thanks!] and I live in New Zealand.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Mac G5i no longer recognising digital camera

This was working fine one day and then not the other, Previously whenever I plugged in my Pentax Optio S5i via USB port it was picked up immediately and I could copy over photos. Now nothing happens I go to System Profiler and under USB it's there, so the computer knows its plugged in but when I choose Image Capture it says no device connected, I am at a loss. Apple Online Support couldnt help they made me reset my PRAM and NVRAM but that has made no difference. My Applecare disk passed everything... I read somewhere about reinstalling from Pentax's website the camera's driver but it doesnt work as its for version 8.6.... I am at a loss. Can anyone please point me in the right direction.
    IMAC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi Jimmy --
Well, this one has me stumped, too, at least for now. I'm continuing to research it, but so far all I've come up with is an archived thread where somebody appeared to have the same problem as you with the same camera following an upgrade to iPhoto 5.0.4: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=953982&#953982
Unfortunately, as you can see, the thread doesn't indicate if the problem was ever solved.
Finally, just so we're clear, you're not getting any other error messages except for the "device not connected" message from the software (iPhoto, Image Capture), even though the device appears to be recognized by the hardware (i.e., System Profiler). Right?
I'll keep looking, but in the interim, perhaps a post in the iPhoto forum is worth considering, if for no other reason than it might reach a different set of Discussions users, some of whom might even have your model camera and/or have experienced your problem. Also, I have yet hit the Pentax support site, but that might be another source of potentially valuable information(doubtful, but worth looking).
    Hmmmm.

  • Iphoto does not recognise my cameras anymore

Up to a week ago my iphoto 11 running snow leopard worked fine and now when I connect my 2 canonixuis 85 is the computer does not see them nor does it open the iphoto program. 3 weeks ago I got the new Lumix waterproof (i think FT3) and it connects fine though has it's own lead. I tried a different lead for the canons and still nothing.
A little frustrating as have a heap of photos to download onto the computer. I searched last night and they said to go to disk utility and do a repair disk permissions and still nothing (but I didn't have the camera connected nor turned on.
I keep the computer always updated so can't remember if in the last few weeks there was a update that may be causing this glitch.
Any help from anyone would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your help, very much appreciated, but I have identified the problem. Once I deleted the nokia sync software (for photos and videos only), turned off the computer and came back later, turned on the computer and hooked up the 2 cameras everything worked fine.
Just to be a pain to myself I loaded up the nokia software again and bingo the computer no longer sees my cameras - deleted software again and yes the computer and iphoto now see the cameras.
Just for additional info the nokia software allows the the so called sync to happen but iphoto opens but it doe not prompt for photos / videos to be downloaded straight into the iphoto but into a folder on the system via the nokia sync software and then you go into iphoto and imovie to do a import into those programs. What I am guessing is this round about way of getting photos into a location that you are use to is a little painful, and I believe it interrupts with other cameras and since they don't have additional software nor can nokia sync see them the connection sits in limbo land meaning while the nokia software for n9 is there nothing else can be downloaded from other camers.
Solution - delete nokia sync software from the computer and use works computer (PC) to down load the odd photo and video to a usb stick and bring it home.
Hope this helps someone else out there.

  • Device Manager Can not recognise the Camera

From the first day I installed my iPhone the camera would not connect to my PC. In the device manager my camera comes up in Imaging devices as "iPhone" with an ! inside a yellow circle (Not Triangle)I have deleted the driver and reinstalled it several times, and it is as if it can not find the driver or it does not exist. I also deleted the USB "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" and reinstalled it and rebooted several times. In the device manager I believe the device should come up under Imaging devices as "Apple iPhone" instead of just "iPhone".
iTunes syncs fine and I can even send photos to the iPhone to the photos app as an album, but I can not get the iPhone photos off the phone except via email
Does anybody know the solution to this problem?

Oh my gosh! I was having this problem, too! I found the solution, tho. It really worked!
I was having a pretty serious problem that started when I upgraded to iPhone 3.1. While iTunes recognized my iPhone, iPhoto didn't.
And if I opened iPhoto, I couldn't see the camera. Same with Image Capture - it said no device detected. I know there was no problem in 3.0.
Luckily, there are other ways to get the photos off the iPhone, and luckily iTunes recognizes the phone, but that of course is not the point.
Good news is that I believe I found the fix. Click through and I'll see if I can explain it.
For some reason, it has to do with photos saved to the camera roll that were not shot with the iPhone. In other words, photos saved from email or screenshots. I have no idea why that would be, but once I deleted the non-shot photos, iPhoto launched normally and all was right with the world.
The problem is mentioned several times in the Apple support forums and everyone with it is running iPhone 3.1 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Restoring the iPhone, rebooting and repairing permissions from the Snow Leopard disc has no effect. The only fix I've found is my weird one.
Anyone else seeing this problem? Anyone find a different fix? Please let me know in the comments or interact with me on Twitter or Facebook.
    Thanks and thanks for calling.

  • Why does image capture not recognise mac camera

When i go onto image capture, it says there are no camera's or scanners. How do I find the original camera that came with the mac (there is definitely a camera on the mac)? Is this possible?

Image capture is for importing/copying images off a camera memory card or from a scanner. It doesn't activate the built in camera. For that open Photo Booth.

  • Migration Assistant on MBP not recognising my old (Leopard) Mac

I have a new MBP and I'd like to migrate some of my account from my old Mac running Leopard. When I run Migration Assistant on the MBP it can seem to find the old Mac. They are connected via ethernet and a modem/router and I am able to see and login to the old Mac via Network Folder on the MBP.
Is it possible to use Migration Assistant in this way. What alternatives do I have, obviously doing a TIme Machine isn't an option being Leopard on the old Mac. I could manual take Mail folde, iTunes folder r and Safari bookmarks and forget the rest but figured there's a way to get Migration Assistant to do this.

Did you do software update on your old mac right before you tried this? You need to make sure it's got the latest version of Migration Assistant that it's compatible with.
