MBP NVIDIA blackout - Change auto login in sys pref's?

I have an appointment in a couple of hours @ Apple Store... I when working at home check the auto login to the main user name I use to save time at boot up. Now I have to bring in my MBP and have them work on it. I have some proprietary stuff on the thing that I would like to have not available to who ever works on my computer, so, the question is HOW do I change the System Preferences for the auto startup to just boot up to the login window when I can't see the screen to use the mouse to change it?

Well, I brought it in without changing the auto-login, and they asked for the login password anyway, so I guess that my question was and would have been moot.
The 'genius' that 'helped' me, tested my MBP and said that it "failed - eligible processor not found" - and that I had to pay the flat rate + labor ($310) + taxes. The claimed resolution was to replace the MLB. Which is what they do when NVIDIA card is the claimed problem since it is soldered to the MLB. So, new questions are...
WHAT is the difference between my NVIDIA problem and the one they are claiming is the covered one???????
What recourses are there for we that have a NVIDIA problem that is not covered (other than biting the bullet and paying)??
I left my MBPro for the repair and it should be back in the store today for pickup. Is it possible the repair shop will tell the store to not charge me for the repair? (RE: Article: T52377)
As a MacAholic from 1984, I'm a bit upset at this...

  • Is it possible to change auto-login to iTunes Store?

When I launch iTunes, I find that I am already logged in to my iTunes Store account. Is it possible to change it to manual logon? If so, how? Thanks.

Store > Sign Out should log you out of your account - if you then sign in to make purchases or to download app updates you will need to sign out out again if you don't want to be logged in when you next open iTunes.  But even though you are currently logged in when iTunes opens, you still need to enter your password any purchases can be made.

  • MBP is missing the "Display" icon in Sys Pref, Display PrefPane file needed

    Hi,
I noticed that my "Display" icon under >Hardware, in the System Preferences is suddenly missing. It should be between "CDs & DVDs..." and "Energy Saver" icons. I think I need the Display Preferences Pane. Can anyone send me a copy, I don't have another Mac to copy it from (except a really old 10 yr imac running System 9). I don't know why it is missing, but I can't calibrate my display without it. The "display.prefpane" file is located under system>library>PreferencePanes. My email address is: melissa (at) melissatobiaart (Dot) com
If anyone can send me a copy I would greatly appreciate it!

The file is part of the OS X system therefore it's proprietary to Apple. Furthermore, it's a violation of the Apple Software License to install OS X on more than one CPU at a time (for a single-licensed copy. The Family Pack allows up to five concurrent installations.)
As the AD belongs to Apple it would be against the Terms of Use for us to enable any of the above. Thus, it's both inappropriate to ask as well as to send.
That's my interpretation of the software license. You may choose to interpret it differently or even ignore it, but such actions are best left off of the forums.
I would be more than happy to inquire of the moderators and report back what they suggest.

  • View Planner 3.5 Auto Login

I am having an issue where I have the GoldenDesktop Setup.  It logs in without issue.  This VM was created with the same customization file as the next set.   Once I use the View Planner to provision the remaining VMs, each have their local admin account disabled.   They do report to the View Planner.  They do start the workload.  However, only the original VM uploads the data.  Any ideas?

Yes, agree.   The auto login was working after the view agent was loaded.  However, once the customization wizard ran, I noticed a few changes.  The admin was disabled and the registry entries were missing under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\winlogin.  The keys needed to login were AutoAdminLogon = "1" (Enabled), DefaultUserName = Administrator DefaultPassword = Q1w2e3r4! .   This was present before the customization wizard.  So, I looked at the customization wizard closer.  On the 4th step for "Administrator Password" you need to set the password toe Q1w2e3r4!.  Furthermore, place a check mark for "Automatically log on as the Administrator".  I also set this value to 10.   After doing this, the login portion worked.
The second issue I had was the .bat file behavior.   It needed to be set to "open this file each time".  Since there were only 50 desktops, I check the box on each and pressed open.  I'm sure there is a setting to fix this.  However, I haven't researched it enough to comment just yet.

  • Problems joining Wi-Fi networks that require viewing a redirect page in iOS 8.1.1? Check your "Auto-Login" setting.

Are you having problems joining previously used Wi-Fi networks that require you to view a login or redirect page (say to accept Terms of Use) first?  The problem could be your Auto-Login Wi-Fi network setting.
I found numerous cases where I could not access in-store Wi-Fi networks (Nordstrom was one), hotel networks or in fact networks where you had to first view a Terms and Conditions page or where you had to login via a web form.
These were all networks I had used before.
This appears to be due to the "Auto-Login" setting assuming that once you (re)join a previously known network you can just go ahead and use it without further action. When the iOS device receives an error trying to use the network, it silently drops the Wi-Fi association.
If this is happening to you, follow these steps:
    1) Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi
    2) Select the network you want to join
    3) When a check-mark appears next to the SSID, press the "i" button on the right hand side
    4) Set Auto-Join however you want, but shut off the Auto-Login switch
    5) Now attempt to use the network and you should be presented with the usual redirect page with terms you must accept or where you must login to use the Wi-Fi network in question
This cleared up the issue for me everywhere I had previously been having issues.

Just let me get one thing straight...you don't change don't do this for the PC you have your router plugged in to?
    "For Vista:
    1. Open Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center, Manage Network Connections
    2. If Wireless, Right click on your Wireless Network Connection, otherwise, Right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties
    3. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)
    4. Click Properties
    5. Tick Use the Following IP Address and enter the IP you want to use for that PC. I would start at 192.168.0.100(D-Link) and work your way up on each additional device. The second device would be 192.168.0.101, the 3rd, 192.168.0.102 and so on. Like I said, different brands of routers use different IP's, so it could be 192.168.1.100 and so on, so you will need to know the IP address of your router first.
    6. Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 on all pc's and devices
    7. Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1(D-Link) or whatever your router's IP is on all pc's and devices
    8. Tick Use the Following DNS Server Address and enter 192.168.0.1(D-Link) or whatever your router's IP is and click OK.
    9. You will need to do this on all Vista Pc's"

  • Auto login and password problems with Safari after OS 7.0.4 update?

    Hi all,
I updated my IPad 4 to OS 7.0.4 , now Safari won't auto login to my favorite forums and won't remember my user names or pass words. I checked in Safari settings and Names/passwords and auto fill are on. Have restarted a number of times but no change. Any fixes?
       Thanks.

Make sure Private Browsing is off.
Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

  • Background auto-login at boot

I have a G5 running Leopard that I'm using as a print server. I would like to set it up to automatically login into a certain account when it boots up—to start up my printer RIP—but I'd like to hide that boot process from any users who happen to be around at the time. Assuming I have fast user switching enabled, is there a way to script a login as a background boot process?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Here's what I think you mean:
-you want your computer to auto-login to a certain account on boot--see Sys Prefs -> Accounts -> Login Options
-you want to start a process at boot -- try using Lingon (http://sourceforge.net/projects/lingon/files/)
-you want to hide the existence of the process you started from anyone who might be poking around in Activity Monitor/top/ps -- 1) you can't; 2) why would you want to?
-you want to be able to use fast user switching and still have your process running -- set up your job in Lingon as a "System Daemon"
Is that what you mean? Please ask if you meant something else.

  • MDT 2012 - Auto login settings were gone at the end of the deployment

I need to make some PC for public use (Has a local user account that no need to login)
There's no problem for me to created the local user account and and its profile folder by using custom tasks.
The auto login settings also successfully set by modify the registry or use Sysinternals - Autologon.exe
But after the last restart of th PC (I set to restart at the end of the deployment), Windows stuck at the login screen.
Then I found that all the auto login settings were gone (Both in the registry and netplwiz).
Since this custom task is place near the end in the Task sequence (which means there should be no other task that can influence it). So, I suspect may be the Group Policy reset all those settings.

I had the same problem, and these were my solutions:
Comment out the relevant lines in LTICleanup. I tried to avoid this, in case any updates to MDT reversed the change. Also even if I documented it, it might not be apparent to another technician years down the line. I prefer to leave the MDT files unchanged.
Create a script that runs after the task sequence has completed. This is the option I chose, and it was a bit more complicated than it appeared.
What I did was as follows:
Create a new AutoLogon Script application.
The "application" must consist of two script files: install and autologon.
The "install" script does the following:
Copy the "autologon" script to a temporary folder on the local drive
Create a new scheduled task which runs on startup, as the SYSTEM user, and runs the "autologon" script (using schtasks.exe)
The "autologon" script does the following:
Create the relevant registry keys to enable automatic logon.
    Delete the above scheduled task.
    Reboot the workstation.
In the MDT task sequence, create a new task at the very end, which installs a single application. Choose the AutoLogon Script application.
    In your CustomSettings.ini, set FinishAction=REBOOT
So at the end of your task sequence, the workstation will reboot. It will then run the autologon script after boot up, but will not autologon. When the script finishes, it will reboot again, at which point it will autologon with the details you specified.
It's a little fiddly, but works for me.
Johan Arwidmark has another method here, which might be even easier - http://www.deploymentresearch.com/Research/tabid/62/EntryId/122/Final-Configuration-for-MDT-2013-Lite-Touch-now-with-Autologon-support.aspx

  • How do  I get this machine to auto login?

I have an admin account. I have made sure that in the security pane, the 'disable autologin' is unchecked. I have created a master password, and yet this mache ALWAYS asks for a password on login.
This is driving me (and my family - with young kids) nuts!!
How do I get it to boot straight into the os?

Hi Brian, have you checked in sys. prefs. > Accounts > Log in options > that automatic log in as .. is used? There's a drop down box menu to select the user to log in as, that should do it. As Kiràly suggested, you should not let anyone log in as Admin. - make up a standard user while your in Accounts and log in auto. with that account - it's a lot safer.
    Best wishes,
    Robert.

  • After 9i (9.2.0.1)Install on Windows 2003 cannot login as sys/sysdba/system

    Hello all,
    I need to someone's help.
I just installed Oracle After 9i (9.2.0.1)Install on Windows 2003.
I can only login using scott/tiger.
    cannot login as sys/sysdba/system
I used Oracle dtabase Configuration Assistant. At the last step it asked me if I want to change sys and system passwords, I did. However, I cannot verify if system took those. The default combinations system/manager sys/change_on_install are not working.
As well as my new passwords.
    How can I resolve it?
    Thank you in advance,
    Sonya

Recall what you used and you should be able to login .
    OR
On windows create new password for sys user. This should work for you since you are on windows OS
back up the file in you ORACLE_HOME/database/PWD<SID>.ora
    Create a new one using
    orapwd file=...database/PWD<sid>.ora password=<new password> entries=5
    stop the oracleService<SID>
    start the oracleService<SID>
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect sys as sysdba
    Enter password: <new password>
You should be able to login with this new password created

  • Auto login issues to iTunes Store password incorrect

Running Windows 7 with iTunes 11.  When I open iTunes and it attempts to auto login I get an error message that my password is incorrect (see image below). I can type in the correct password and everything works fine until I close iTunes and reopen it, then I get the same error.  Steps I have tried to resolve issue: 1) Logged out of iTunes, 2) deauthorized this computer and reauthorized it, 3) Reset warnings and cache.  All to no avail.

When you change your USER ID (which is generally your E-MAIL), Itunes for some reason gets confused... Any apps, music etc. purchased off the itunes store before you made the change still bring up the original USER ID to update, authorize etc. So if you try and enter the password without changing to the new user ID, even if the account is technically the same, you're going to get "incorrect password" or "can not connect to itunes" or possibly "account doesn't exist". I found this out the hard way when I upgraded from XP to Windoze 7.

  • Disabling Auto-Login Option

How do we disable Auto-Login option in OBPM 10GR3 because I get the following error:-
You have the autologin option enabled and the session for this execution has expired .

So nobody else has been bitten by this stupid bug?
Anyway, it happens on a pure VGA console too, so it has nothing to do with the video driver. And I take back the “more of an inconvenience” part – it is freaking annoying that one can not just properly change the runlevel. Oh well…

  • How can I turn off the auto login on Netbook running Ubuntu OS

During the initialisation of the machine AUTO LOGIN was already highlighted.
Unfortunately I only noticed it as I hit the next key.
How do I turn off the auto login?
I think I change the /etc/gdm/gdm.conf , but would like confirmation as this is a slightly different version of Linux.
    malcolli

Decided to give the full Ubuntu system answer to this and it works just fine.
In a terminal issue the command: sudo /usr/sbin/gdmsetup
This will bring up the gdm gui and there you can turn off auto login, and the timed login.
