MBP Nvidia Bootcamp black screen XP install

I have encountered a problem I haven't been able to find mentioned anywhere on the web.
I have a Macbook Pro 3,1
15" LED backlit version
Geforce 8600M gfx card 256MB ram
2.4GHz intel
2GB ram
The problem I'm having is when installing xp (only for certain games and autocad) the screen is black.
the apple support website mentions this for late 2006 24" iMac's and offers a fix, but there is nothing for macbook Pro's
should it be safe to use the iMac MXM update on my MBP, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Just out of interest... was the screen completely black? or was there a very nearly black cursor blinking in the top left corner? I came across that last night when installing Arch onto an AMD Athlon 64 and 7300GS combo... I was using the free driver, and swapped to the nvidia-173xx driver and running nvidia-xconfig worked where Xorg -configure hadn't. The free driver was complaining about a module having a lock on my graphics card, or something similar (yeah, nice and vague ).
Although, being a relative newbie to Arch I could have just messed something up along the way. Tonight's project is to decide on and install a widow manager, so my X experience is more featured than just popping up a VLC client so I can watch a movie... look for some moronic posts in the newbie corner tomorrow

  • Black Screen on install of Windows 7 32 or 64bit on MBP Late 2008

I have an issue installing Windows 7 32/64bit on my late 2008 MBP from a fresh Lion 10.7.1 install. Boot Camp creates a partition just fine, recognizes the Windows install disc and restarts bongs grey screen then only displays a black screen. No cursor, nothing... but if I hit esc twice the machine restarts. I have tried removing and re-creating the partition, resetting pram and repair permissions.
Any suggestions? Is this a widespread issue?
    Thanks in advance.
Processor  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26)

I am having the exact same problem. I have late 2009 MBP with Lion 10.7.1. My harddrive has a partition and everything has been smooth. When I start the installation process, the "mac sound" starts and the screen is grey. It then turns to a black screen with an underscore in the top-left corner, then just remains blank.

  • [SOLVED]black screen after installing nvidia driver from official repo

    Hi!
I have just made a clean install this afternoon and I really can not get the drivers from nvidia in the official rep to work. After booting it just gives me blackscreen.
    What I have tried:
    1. Blacklisted nouveau.
    2. Doublechecked mkinitcpio.conf for nouveao under "MODULES" section.
    3. Rebuilt initramfs by doing
    mkinitcpio -p linux
    4. i tried with a "nomodeset" by entering it in grub.
    5. Last I tried to remove nouveau by doing
    pacman -Ss nouevau
    pacman -R mesa
pacman -Rc mesa (here I double checked the packages and nothing really vital for a full boot of a non-graphical interface (TTY1) is gone)
After Pressing enter from grub I can not see anythin,  except from some text that flashes by, Something about checking /dev/sda6 for any errors... Except from that, nothing. Just a black screen.
I am writing this from my phone right now, please understand if I am doing any spelling errors    (too lazy to chroot ehen in my bed and PC turned off for the night )

I never really tried the intel gpu, nor did I knew that my mb had that compability to actually run with that, since I can not even change to only use the display connection from my cpu :0
Besides, I never really will use the built-in gpu on my proc unless my graphics card crashes, and if that happens, I can just create a chroot and read-on about bumblebee and such
I am right now writing this from my Desktop
I have some minor issues with my KDE environment, the text being so small I can barely read it inside of applications.... except from that I have used "Settings" to change it inside the KDE environment :b
So I can live with it, unless it happens inside games aswell
Anyway, I just did not knew about it, otherwise I would have read 'bout it and tried to fix it before i came here
I know how it is when ya dont get enough info about a problem like "This program won't work, why?" (I am the PC wizard amongst my friends, so I know ya should try everything, use google, and most of all, do not panic, it can and will be fixed :3
But ty anyway for the suggestion Jason, appreciate it!

  • Black screen while installing 64 bit Windows 7 on early 2010 MBP.

    Hi,
I just tried doing a clean install of Windows. After partioning the hardrive my system booted into a black screen. It does not have the blinking cursor like I see on other forums.
I was trying to install a 64 bit Windows 7 on my MBP Early 2010.

Forgot to mention, it is a 13". But I don't think that is relevant to this matter

  • I get a black screen after installing the bootcamp drivers on my newly created windows partition?

I am attempting to install windows 7 on my mid 2007 core 2 extreme iMac. I open bootcamp and do all of the steps except the usb flash drive drivers from apple because the server always fails to load. After restarting, I install windows 7 to the bootcamp partition, and the screen goes black during the "Completing Installation." I wait about an hour before shutting down and rebooting into my Mac partition. I use paragon ntfs for mac and go to the drivers folder and delete the atikmdag.sys file and restart. Booting into the windows partition, I get the error that says "Windows installation has failed because the system unexpectedly restarted. Click ok to restart and redo installation" or something along those lines. Instead of pressing ok, I press shift+f10 and open regedit. After opening regedit, I go into some registry file for the setup (I don't remember where this is located, although I can find it if needed), and I change a value from 3 to 1. After doing this and restarting, It boots regularly with a super low res screen but it boots without problem. I go to the apple website and download the appropriate bootcamp support software and install on my windows partition. After restarting, the screen is black again. I assume this is another video driver problem again because the black screen seems to always be video driver problems; however, its odd that the bootcamp support software would give me an incorrect video driver as it is directly from apple. Would this be the problem or does anyone know a fix? Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Adam

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 667mhz not 675mhz or 800mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed.
This is from one review of PNY RAM:
"These modules are actually 800Mhz. PNY no longer makes or sells 667Mhz modules. Not all computers that require 667Mhz are compatible with 2 800Mhz modules. They refuse to down clock properly. This is especially true with a number of Core 2 Duo MacBooks. Spoke to PNY support, they flat out told me that yes, they sell 800Mhz modules in 667Mhz packaging. If you RMA a module that is 667Mhz (or supposed to be 667Mhz) they will replace it with an 800Mhz module as they no longer have any 667Mhz SODIMMs, not even for RMA replacement!"
These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model

  • Black Screen while installing Windows 7 with BootCamp

    Hello all,
I try to install windows 7 by using Boot Camp but when I restart my computer for Win7 Reboot, there is black screen with no activity. I waited maybe 20 minutes but no any process. Even I could not see the Win7 boot animation. Only black screen. Could you help me ?
    Thanks in advance

It is good to see that it is indeed a USB2.
The support software on the USB is used in the Pre-boot environment setup and provides drivers for Apple specific hardware, GPU, BT, Mouse, etc. You can verify that by looking at the USB contents. The DVD contains generic drivers when hardware is not recognized as defaults to use. Apple does enough 'secret sauce' to make them different. The following does not explicitly state the USB2 need when using the DVD Installer and mentions W8 (not W7).
From Boot Camp: Creating an ISO image from a Windows installation DVD - Apple Support
Insert a blank USB 2 flash drive that is a least 16GB in size into a USB port on the computer. Boot Camp Assistant uses this drive to store the Windows 8 install media and support drivers during installation of Windows.
Note: This flash drive needs to be formatted for the FAT32 file system and must use the Master Boot Record partitioning scheme. Use Disk Utility to check the format of the flash drive before proceeding, and partition or erase the flash drive if necessary.
I suspect the GPU is not getting the correct driver and the Installer fails. The Generic VGA should work. From the OS X side, can you see files in your BC volume? If yes, can you look for logs in the BC volume at the following locations.
    ./Windows/Inf/setupapi.dev.log
    ./Windows/Inf/setupapi.offline.log
    ./Windows/Inf/setupapi.setup.log
    ./Windows/Logs/SetupCleanupTask/setupact.log

  • Boot Camp - Black Screen after installing Windows 7

    Hello guys!
I have tried to install Windows 7 several times and so far no success.
Everything goes fine until I complete Win7 installation.
Then when I install Boot camp drivers the computer prompts for reboot.
After the login screen, I am able to log in, but the screen turns into BLACK!.
And I cannot do anything but shut it down with the power button. I can still hear that the laptop is on, but screen stays black.
I have tried removing the ATI and NVIDIA Drivers as recommended in this forum:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=840528
But so far I get the same result over an over.
Anybody is facing the same issue?
    I have MACBOOK PRO
    MAC OS X 10.6.8
    AMD Radeon HD 6490M (ATI)
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
Quad Core i7 Chip, 4GB RAM 500GB HD
    Please Help!!

I did install : Display Driver +  Catalyst Control Center dowloaded from AMD support website:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/bootcamp-win7.aspx
The result is still the same - BLACK SCREEN
I rolled back to initial configuration.
Then I installed the AMD driver.
In device manager it shows as the AMD  Radeon HD 6490M driver for the display/Graphics card
Everythig is fine until I install the Boot camp drivers.
Then after the reboot I face the same issue.
However the driver for AMD still stays there in the devive manager.
    Any other ideas, suggestions?
    thanks!!

  • Black Screen for Install of Windows 7 on Mac Pro Early 2008

I have a mac pro early 2008 with lion 10.7.4 and boot camp 4.0.3 I think... anyways the problem I have is when I am in boot camp, and configure the HDD partition, then the machine reboots... when it reboots and starts up boot from the install DVD (legit retail copy) I just get a black screen on both monitors. No curser, nothing just a black screen, same as I get when the machine is off! the little white LED lights are on and nothing...
I can hear the DVD spinning up and down a few times then that just stops too...
I have tried resetting the PRAM, pulling the power and watch battery inside for a few minutes, I tried the "fix" that is online for the imac problem with the answerfile and got no different resutls with anything, still the same probelm.
I have the OEM ATI Radeon video card 512MB.
    * as a side note, I was never able to download the windows support drivers prior to trying the install... I tried and tried for the last two days so this time I "unchekced" that box and just went for the install...
Any help will be greatly appriciated, thank you :-)

  • HT1492 windows 7 boot camp black screen after install

    Hi,
I have installed bootcamp on a 2010 white macbook with os 10.7
Windows 7 was install all the updates for apple and windows where completed. Everything was looking good and running great. This is my work computer and it has run boot camp previously on another macbook with the same specs.
When I restarted the computer to comfirm that all was good with both partitions the mac is running great, but the windows just locks on the black screen, no cursor, no windows starting.
I tried to start with the install disk in but after the black and white instruction screen the computer went back to the black screen.
I deleted the windows partition and tried to re-install but just got the black screen straight away and it will not even load.
When i did this I noticed that Parallels had been install on the computer I tried to start it and the windows 7 is asking for the install disk to be inserted and restarted to fix problems. I insert the disk and tried to restart but nothing happened again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As i need to do school reports over the next week!
    Thanks LC

Did you create a snapshot of Windows in Parallels to fall back onto if it won't work?
It sounds like to me you didn't pass validation, did you ignore those warning bubbles in the bottom corner?
Take the machine to a local PC/Mac geek and have them find the problem, it's too involved to go into here.

  • Pavilion dv6-1230us Black Screen after installing Windows 7...Please Help

    Hi,
I recently installed Windows 7 and everything was working fine until my computer went into hibernation.   Before this, I installed all the drivers and software from the HP website for my computer for Windows 32 bit setup.  After my computer went into hibernation, my computer will not start up in normal mode; rather, it starts in safe mode only.  When its starts in normal mode, the screen just turns black and nothing happens.  The login screen comes up perfectly fine but after I login at startup, the screen just turns black.  Please help, I don't know what else to do whether it is a driver or software issue from the software from the HP site.
    Thanks,

Ive had this problem in the past and im aware that you need to install the correct display / bluetooth drivers for windows 7 for the iMac 27" 2.8Ghz i7 4GB ddr3
i have Lion installed and up to date with Bootcamp Assistant 4.0.1
i wanted a fresh windows 7 install and didnt think that i would need to mess around with downloading drivers etc. WHY with the release of Lion and the updated version of Bootcamp Assistant (and it downloads 'windows support software' prior to install) do i get the black screen!!
THIS IS SO ANNOYING as i live in a poor broadband area (2mb max) and each time i install to get this working it take AGES to download 'WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE' which doesnt address the issue
c'mon Apple your better than this!!

  • Black screen after installing Boot camp Win7 on iMac 27 late 2009

I've run out of ideas as to how to fix this problem. I have a late 2009 iMac quad i5, Mountain Lion, 12GB RAM, 1TB HD (recently exchanged under extended warranty).
I stopped counting how many times I have tried to get this up and running but I followed a whole bunch of 'how to's' on the net, including the official Appple guide, but I always end up with a black screen. I insytalled it from scratch using both, Apple drivers on CD and SD card and I can confirn that they installed correctly during my last try. That time I first installed Win Vista, then upgraded to Win 7. I took out the install DVD after first restart and left the SD card in its slot (correctly named, as suggested by Apple). the installation finished, the screen went dark for about 5 min, then the computer rebooted, the screen went dark again for another few min and after that the vomputer restarted again but this time all stayed dark and nothing happened for the better part of an hour.
I also restarted from the Win install disk and tried to remove the ATI drivers using command lines, as suggested in one post.
I need to run Win in Bootcamp because some application I use are very demanding so I need Win to run natively. In an earlier attempt I managed to boot Win7 from the Bootcamp partition in Parallels and I installed the Apple Drivers in that environment but it still resulted in a black screen. I also tried to remove the ATI drivers from Drivers directory manually in MacOS mode but the System wouldn't let me edit the Syustem folder at all, not even in Root user mode.
I understand that I'm not the only one with problem and I feel for you, but please refrain from "me too" posts becuase it doesn't really solve my problem. Thank you.

I presume that you've followed the instructions for sideloading the iMac Windows drivers into your install via USB stick? (wasn't aware the EFI recognized the SD slot as storage on boot. Now i know)
I always found more success in just slipstreaming the drivers and install.xml file onto a custom Win7 DVD rather than the USB approach when trying with my Late 2009 27" iMac. The Win7 installer needs that enclosed .xml file in the driver package to tell it where to find the drivers so that they be loaded when the Win7 image extracts itself.
If you're using mountain lion, then you should be receiving the proper Win7 driver set. If you wanted to create a custom image, then you can use an ISO file, the driver package and disk utility to make something you can use. Either that or you learn what edits your install.xml file needs to point the installer properly and check it manually.
I don't know what links you have so i'll just include everything:
Installing boot camp on a Late 2009 iMac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
Direct link to Late 2009 iMac-specific Windows drivers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL995
I'd try a USB stick and the iMac-specific driver set. It should steer your insolent windows installer correctly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bootcamp Black Screen iMac 27" (Late 2012) GTX 680 Drivers?

This is easy, same problem for everyone.
Using bootcamp to install windows 7 from an .iso in a USB (just because there is no DVD drive anymore on the iMac), after restart the imac a black screen come up and nothing happen.
I think this is because the drivers for the GTX 680 MX 2GB is missing on the USB.
Where to get them and how to fix this problem?
the solution that apple has right here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173 it doesn't work at all, just because the driver that you download from there is for an ATI Graphic card.
    How to fix this please.
I bought this very expensive imac because it is so powerfull and I want to use designing software with windows and use at the same time mac OS.
Please don't tell me about Parallels or VMware xD.
