Mbp or mb for photoshop

ok so im off to college next year and i will be doing alot of graphical editing mostly as far as i know running photoshop and illustrator. maybe others eventually. so my question is would a macbook be adequte for running these applications or would the pro be more suited for these tasks?
thanks for you help

Are you guys serious? It has also been my experience that with a glob of extra RAM as well as the dedicated GPU of the MBP that Photoshop performs much better on the MBP vs. the MB. I admit that helping a friend make an album cover isn't the most intense use of Photoshop but when doing the similar task on my sister's MacBook, to me there was no comparison; the MacBook Pro simply felt more responsive. Plus, the dedicated memory on the video card leaves that much more system RAM free for other use. Yes, while Photoshop does utilize "raw" CPU speed and ram, it could also utilize the extra memory of a dedicated GPU, something that certainly couldn't hurt performance. (Just Google "dedicated video photoshop"; seems as though I'm not the only one that shares this opinion.)
And $700?! Where are you getting that figure from? According to the Apple Store website, with student discount, the difference between a high-end MB and low-ed MBP is $400, which is still significant, but certainly not as drastic as $700. And considering the enhancements that the pro model gets, $400 certainly seems reasonable. (I have yet to see another main-stream laptop with a backlit keyboard!)
So ultimately, the decision comes down to whether or not you want to spend the $400 for the pro model. Carefully consider the pros and cons of each model, and also keep in mind that you want to be able to hold on to this computer for as long as possible, at least throughout college. Especially if you're going to continue doing graphic work throughout school, I would seriously consider the pro.

  • Which MacBook Pro Processor for Photoshop and IMovie Projects?

I am a fine art photographer. I use my compuer mostly for Photoshop work. I am now starting to do some video, but nothing too intensive. I am currently using IMovie. I doubt I will ever use finalcut but you never know. So I am planning to get a 15" MBP with Hi-Res screen. the question is which processor? Dpong alot of Photoshop work and a little IMovie, do you think I should get the I7 or should I jsut get the base model? Either way I will max out the ram. thanks
    <Edited by Host>

The CPU isn't as important as you might think. The difference between the slowest and fastest CPU is barely 10% -- and Photoshop should offload a lot of work to the GPU (which is the same, save for the amount of VRAM) for all of them.
Performance-wise, you'd probably do better concerning yourself with the amount of RAM you have installed, and maybe the hard disk speed (best go for the 500G 7200RPM model, or even the 512G sold-state if you can afford it). More RAM and a faster disk will provide greater performance boost than the faster CPU.

  • Where can i find a dutch manual for photoshop cs6

    Hi,
I'm trying to find the dutch manual for Photoshop CS6.
There is a hyperlink available on this page Help bij Photoshop | Archief called Help bij Adobe Photoshop CS5 (PDF), but if I follow this I end up on an "error page" in English telling me that the requested page isn't available.
Can someone provide me with this PDF-file please?
I can download this PDF in English, but it would be so much easier for me to read and understand the subject matter in Dutch.
So, is there anybody out there who can send it to me?
    Thanks!
    Michael

  • How do I save an install file for Photoshop CS6

I need to get an install file for Photoshop CS6 (not CR) that I can use on a Windows PC that, due to security reasons, does
not have access to the internet.  In the past I have been able to save the install file for Photoshop and/or Lightroom on my internet connected PC and then move it to the the target PC on a thumb drive or CD.  But now with the CC and the new "Adobe Installer" I can't seem to see how to capture the install file.
Please let me know how to do this.

Adobe Creative Cloud - has anybody had any luck running Adobe CC on a new mac mini? Does it run slow for Photoshop?

Adobe CC applications are very large and the base Mac mini isn't a good choice because it has only 4GB of RAM and has a slow standard hard drive. To get the most out of ACC you should upgrade the mini to at least 8GB. I'd also choose an SSD or Fusion drive for better performance.

Ok so, I made a deal with the local PC shop, I will be trading my time as a photographer for a large portion of the cost of hardware that they would otherwise not be selling. Some things they will have to order but most of the things I need even the high end stuff they already have. So Money is of no object.
I am running into issues with my current system being that it is nearly 6 years old and I custom built it for under $150 Monitor included. Since then I have upgraded my Camera Equipment as I have become more and more sucsessfull with my photography business. I am currently shooting 16.7 Megapixel files with my Canon 1DS Mark II and 22 megapixels with a rented hasselblad with a Phase One Digital Back. Frankly my 700Mhz machine just isn't cutting it. It's time to upgrade.
Now Normaly I would go All Mac and Get a top of the line G5 Quad processor unit fully upgraded however I am still young and dont have good credit dispite all my efforts and they just wont finance me. so this local PC shop is my only hope. Thus I need a top of the line system.
This computer is going to be expandable so I need to have extra drive bays so a Full Server Tower is in order I think!
Also I am opting for aluminum Case because it is more conductive than plastic and should help radiate some of the heat this GOD BOX is going to Generate.
I could use some specifics for each of the areas, if anyone has experience with high end systems and would like to recommend hardware I am all ears. The information is only a light template. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but get the same error message.

Which version of OS X do you have? It's not clear from your post whether "installed an upgrade" means you just installed PSE 13 as an upgrade or you installed an update to PSE 13, like ACR 9 or 13.1. Please clarify.

  • Advice needed on monitor for Photoshop and Lightroom use

Hi. I am aserious amature photographer wishing to move to the next level and sell some of my work.
I just had a custom pc built to work with the new copies of Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3 I bought (lots or RAM and HD space, ssd, etc....)
The last piece of my system is to purchase a monitor. I want to be somewhere in the better then Best Buy but less than NEC/Eizo range in price, or between $500 - $900. I have worked with cameras since the early 80's and moved to digital several years ago but the only post processing I have done is with Photoshop Elements.  I would be doing mostly prints to sell but also need to have a web site to do so. Will also use the pc for daily net surfing... but do not game or watch a lot of video on the pc.
Being really new to this whole process I have a few questions.
The first thing I need to decide is whether I need to look for a wide gamut display or not.
I realize the whole chain must be 10 bit (Adobe -OS - graphics driver - graphics card - display port.
I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3, Win7 64 bit, Zotac ZT 50701 10M video card (which uses GeForce GTX 560  fermi and an nvidia chipset. It does have displayport). I am having a hard time determining whether my video card actually supports wide gamut (10bit).
Standard vs Wide Gamut? Is wide gamut important enough to deal with the issues it brings (calibration, viewing things other than PS and LR or color managed, which appear to be rare?) Is sRGB good enough for most prints (don't do fine art, mostly nature and portraits but starting to do some HRD things). If wide gamut is the way to go I have no problem with that and have the time to learn about calibration, color management, etc... But I also want to make sure the juice is worth the squeeze.
24" vs 27"? Is there any advantage to one or the other when editing photos?
IPS vs PLS? I realize they are similar but are there differences worth noting?
Glossy vs Matte Anti-Glare? seems to be a lot of comments regarding the anti-glare coating, mostly poor. Yet I can see issues using a glossy screen in my study with a window to my back.
One manufacturer vs another? I realize Eizo, NEC and LaCie are at the top of the heap. But with my budget, after upgrading my pc and camera equipment, I can't make that work now. So I need to choose from the next group down (Dell, HP, Samsung, Asus...)
One or two monitors? It looks like many (mid-grade) wide gamut monitors do a lousy job of displaying anything but color managed sites. Is that necessarily true of all the mid-grades? Or can some be used for graphics but as well for routine net surfing, MS Office, etc...? Or am I better off getting two monitors, one for graphics and one for the rest? That would pretty much limit me to 24" or less given my budget (used to using a Dell 21" TN monitor that oddly crapped out just as my new pc was done).
The more I read reviews the more confusing it gets. There seems to be a difference of opinion even among pros on whether to go wide gamut or stick with an easier sRGB. Realizing a standard gamut monitor would be cheaper, I do want to make the right decision up front, given my budget.
The one thing I have found astounding is that there is nowhere to actually see many of the monitors I am considering. We live in Nashville TN but my wife is from Atlanta Ga so we drove there a few weeks ago to visit family and for me to visit monitor shops. Even the largest ones there (Fry's and Microcenter) had minimal IPS monitors, a few Dells and HP's. The knowledge of their sales folks was so poor I finally gave up. Felt bad about this until I posted this on another board and got a reply from a guy in LA (second largest city in the US) that he wanted to see a particular monitor and there was no place even there to do so.
Anyhow, here is what I have considered:
24" Wide Gamut: Dell U2410 and Asus PA246Q. Dells appear to be good IF you get a good one. The Asus appears to be a clone of the Dell that gets a lot of good press.
27" Wide Gamut: Dell U2711 that also gets a ton of good reviews
24: Standard Gamut: Dell U2412 and HP ZR2440.
27" Standard Gamut: Samsung S27A850D and Apple Cinema- The Samsung uses PLS technology versus IPS while the Apple is a glossy screen that will work with a pc.
Sorry for the long post. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Not trying to talk you out of setting up a 10 bit pipeline, but it's still not very mature, and it really isn't a necessity to get a good editing experience.
Personally I find advantage in using two 4:3 ratio monitors for Photoshop work.  All my panels are on the right monitor, while pretty much the entire left one shows the Photoshop main window and the working canvas space.  My desktop is 3200 x 1200 pixels overall, and I find having the panels remain visible all the time is important.
Regarding whether a wide gamut is important...  Will you be printing to devices that deliver a wide gamut?  What other things will you be doing with your system?
It's not a no-brainer whether a wider gamut monitor is always "better" for everything, since it can accentuate the differences between the output from color-managed and non-color-managed applications, and it's definitely true that not everything is color-managed.  With a monitor that's close to sRGB, for example, you might find Internet Explorer output acceptable, while using a wide gamut monitor will result in garishly oversaturated IE displays.  On the other hand, FireFox (with a settings tweak) seems to get color management right, so there is an alternative.
I think, as John has implied above, you should work to get your head completely around how color-management works, soup to nuts.  If you don't, there will always be things that are a mystery or which surprise you at the wrong times.  Being able to order a print and have it come back with the expected color can be very important, as you might imagine.

I am running Lion 10.7.5, Adobe Photoshop CS6, scanning slides on my Epson V600 and can no longer use the scan application or the plug in for Photoshop. Should I revert back to leopard in my time machine to finish scanning my family slides?
In 10.7 there is not a twain that works with Photoshop for importing with all the options needed to scan transparencies. I noticed that when I was scanning in October 2012 I was still using CS6 so somehow I was managing to be able to use all the scan features.
They sell 2nd party software (VieScan and Silverscript)which I found to be just mimially OK and very hard to use.
I just want to scan like I used to.
Can I use time machine to go back to an earlier operating sysytem LEOPARD,  and then do my scans and then save the photos and them go back to the LION system?
I spent 7 hours trying crazy solutions - downloading Windows CS2 Photoshop and then using a program so I could run it on the apple. Then I couldn't figure out how to put a plug in for the scanner in the stupid windows Photoshop program. Googgling the computer like a mad woman trying to ask questions. I am not giving up...
    Please help if you can...
    Thanks...

I assume you've tried using Image Capture. Give VueScan a try.

I have a computer running windows vista that I pay per month for photoshop, I want to use photoshop on two other computers I have, not that it matters but they are both identical hardware wise, and software one runs xp and the other runs vista, I can upgrade but I am not intrested in other os. When I attempt to download I am told that my os is no longer supported. Now i know that I could find an offline version and should be able to get it installed but im not sure of a safe site that provides the iso or install exe. I want to use the other two computers because they have touch interface early computer/tablet highbird. thanks in advance.

Michaelt65951582 I am sorry but you will need to run at least the minimum operating system to use Photoshop.  You can find the system requirements at System requirements | Photoshop.  I would recommend upgrading to Windows 7 or later.  You may find that your computer can support the more recent operating system depending upon the hardware installed.
