MBP overheating, fan control apps not working

Hi, everyone.
I know there are tons of threads out there about MBPs overheating. I've read most of them, but I couldn't find one with my specific problem, so I'm posting.
I have a 13" unibody MBP I got in late 2009, running OSX 10.6.8. It has been reaching high temperatures (70+ degrees celsius) for about half a year. I installed smcFanControl and have been running my fan at high speed (6000+ rpm) consistently. It's noisy but it keeps my laptop cool, so I don't mind.
A couple of days ago my fan started making awful whining noises. I figured something was obstructing the blades, since my laptop does get pretty dusty in the places I use it. I'm planning to open it up and clean it out (with compressed air) once I get the time, because I figure it must be pretty dirty inside.
Now I have another problem, though. smcFanControl has stopped working: even though I set the fans to run at 6000+ rpm as usual, they are only running at at most 2000 rpm. I tried another app (Fan Control) and it doesn't work either. It's like the fan system management has stopped responding to the apps, or to the temperature of the laptop.
This means my laptop is getting frighteningly hot. It's reached 93 degrees celsius about fifteen minutes ago. Right now I'm not doing anything but typing this, I don't have any programs but Chrome and a word editor open in the background, and it's at 78.2 degrees celsius…but the fan is still running at only 811 rpm. I can't get it to go any higher with my fan control apps. I can barely feel the exhaust coming out of the back. Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/5nTBq.png
Is it possible this problem could be caused by a dusty fan, something obstructing the fan, obstructing the cooling passages in the laptop, etc? If so, will cleaning the laptop fix it? I don't know what else to do.

The Apple Store genius bar will clean it for free. Since you got it in late 2009, it's about that time to get your fan checked out.

I purchased a new MacBookPro and used the Migration Assistant to make the transition. All my Adobe apps made the crossing but now my CC controls do not work. When I open my CC account (Photography) it shows no apps and neither will it allow me to set up and run a sync folder. I see that you have concerns about your operating temperature of your computer while using resource-heavy applications such as gaming applications. I have an article that will address some of the concerns you have mentioned:

While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Mission Control does not work!!!!!!!!

Hi all,
I have recently Reformatted my mac and made it into 1 partition of 500gb just to run mac os x. I did it with the discs the laptop came with.
After OSx install was complete, I ran the os x lion downloaded from the app store and installed it too. After completely updating the system with software updates and my other software like ms office, vlc, flash, iLife etc.
I have found that the mission control does not work sometimes. It allows you to swipe from screen to screen but when when you swipe up.. It hides the top apple bar but nothing else happens.. Everything else is fine so far.
When I turn my mac on. If it gets stuck the only way to make it work again is to restart. Which is a bit annoying.. Plz tell me if it's a bug or something.
If that happens to someone else as well?

Does it work ok if you create a new user?
To create a user account:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Users & Groups. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and type an administrator name and password.
Click the Add button below the list of accounts, choosing a type of account Standard is fine) from the New Account pop-up menu.

I wanted to add something here that may or may not be accurate, since I was suffering the exact same issues (on an iPhone 6+, and replicated on an iPhone 5 patched to 8.0) you were describing Nick. In an effort to trouble shoot this I picked up one of the third party tools that allows you onto the iOS device file system. I've been trying since Friday night to reproduce the conditions that cause the issue but haven't quite narrowed it down. Including this here in case the Engineers are poking around in the discussion boards and are trying to reproduce this.
This is an iPhone 6+ running 8.0 (12A366) connecting physically to iTunes 11.4 on a MBP running 10.9.5 (13F34; fully patched).
Here's what I did last night and this seems to have worked (meaning, I can sync music now without issue at least for syncs this morning; will confirm tonight by syncing again):
Turned off iTunes Match on the iTunes library I am syncing from
Unchecked all non-AAC music files (Apple lossless and MPEG audio both; these were just flat out refusing to copy over, claiming to have copied but coming up with the exclamation point when accessed on the device via iTunes; none of these lossless or mp3 files have been an issue in any previous version of iOS, meaning they are all of the correct sample and bitrate to be used and can sync to other devices in the household running iOS 7)
Removed all music from the iOS device (by deselecting music syncing)
Hard rebooted the iOS device after disconnecting it; rebooted the iTunes library host
Reconnected the iOS device and fired up the third party app (this is the part I do not recommend, but I was eager to try to figure out what the root cause was)
Removed the iTunes library files on iOS (this is something I had done between other factory resets earlier to force the iOS device to rebuild the library; to rule out library corruption)
Removed any "music" folders remaining on the iOS device (this is also something I had done a few times which had had no effect)
Removed any saved artwork (this was something I had not done before, but I too had noticed a strange correlation between it stopping working and the artwork being synced)
Disconnected and rebooted the iOS device again (forcing a recreation of the iTunes library database files)
Reconnected the device and started syncing small playlists (50-100 songs). In increments it all seems to be syncing up now without issue
The two new steps this time around that seem, at least at initial glance, to have solved the problem are stopping syncing any non-AAC music media files and the deletion of the existing artwork folders on the iOS device. Syncing appears to be working, even after disconnecting and reconnecting the device.

MBP Overheating & Fan issue--strange

So...here it goes....
Quit all my applications this afternoon and closed the lid on my 15" MBP to put the thing to sleep (around 4 pm). Placed said MBP in my computer bag and headed home. Went to get it out of the bag (7:30 pm) and found that the entire compartment was really hot and the computer was screaming hot (everywhere) & the fan was running endlessly! This is the first time anything like this has happened with this laptop.
I did update the firmware to deal with the fan well over a month ago & my OS is completely up to date...
Anyone know what could have caused this?? I'm a bit concerned that this could have led to a major meltdown or battery ignition (considering the isulation of the computer bag!)

I just received my MBP C2D and as soon as you hit the power button, the fans come on and don't shut off. Its extremly loud. Sounds like a jet engine. I tried everything to stop it. I installed SMC Fan Control, Fan Control, and Core Duo Temp. The fan controls seem not to affect my fan rpm speed. Core duo temp says my core temp fall between 30C and 45C always. Every few hours (like 4-6 hours) the fan will shut off for 1 sec and then start up again and sometimes stutter on and off. Occasionally the fan will shut off for awhile after like 12 hours, until my MBP goes to sleep and then when it wakes, the fan comes on at full speed and remains on forever. I can shutdown the MBP and as soon as I hit the power button the fans come back on. I ran the apple diagnostics rom cd1 and all passed. I did notice after I entered the test that the fan speed went way down until you could barely hear it but I knew it was on. I suspect that my fans are stuck on at wide open rpm. I wonder if software may have a fault that could cause this. My MBP software is all up to date. Any tricks out there to diagnose this problem or fix it? Please help!

Had the same problem as you. App would terminate when launched.
Solution to working You Tube app:
-Go to playstore
- Uninstall app (it doesn't remove the app, only removes the update)
- "Et Voila", working again.
This doesn't correct the problem, it's just a workaround for you to be able to use youtube app again.

Office Web Apps 2013 - Word app not working on Sharepoint 2013 but Excel does

We had some problems with Office Web Apps 2013 not working with Lync, and the status of OWA was unhealty so we decided to install some updates for OWA.
We have downloaded November 2013 update for OWA.
We found out a guide for putting updates on OWA and done this steps:
* Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine
* Installed the november update
* Restarted OWA server
* ran: New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl https://owasrv.domain.local -ExternalURL
https://owasrv.domain.local -CertificateName "certname" -AllowHttp -EditingEnabled
* Restart-Service WACSM
- checked in IIS in the bindings if the site useses the correct certificate
Then we went on Sharepoint 2013 and ran some commands:
* Remove-SPWOPIBinding –All:$true
* New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName owasrv.domain.local
* Set-SPWOPIZone –zone “external-https”
Now here are the funny things:
* Excel word app on Sharepoint 2013 works
* Word APP not working (screenshot)
* Lync 2013 powerpoint still not working (screenshot)
* status of OWA is healthy

Control center not working on iPhone 6 plus when in landscape mode

I has a iphone 5 before it , and there's no problem with the control center, now with this expensive iPhone 6 plus , the control is not working when the phone is in landscape mode , when the screen tapped repeatedly, I can only see the little tab of the control center but I can't able to bring it up.
Anyone has this problem?

For some initial troubleshooting on this issue where you're unable to open the control center on your iPhone, please first restart your iPhone, and if the issue persists then reset the iPhone.

Default Mail app not working with yahoo mail. Won't update.

Default Maill app not working with Yahoo Mail.
It stopped working the other day. I tried everything but it wouldn't update new mail. The yahoo account itself is fine because I can see new mail on Yahoo or a yahoo app.
I tried deleting the account and putting it back on, but now it has 0 mail in any part of it. Nothing has synced.
What do I do?

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.

H8-1287 Beats Audio controls do not work in Windows 8.1

I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 and installed the IDT High-Definition audio driver from HP's website. The surround sounds seems to be working but the controls do not work to modify the EQ etc. I've seen the problem has been resolved for Envy laptops but all the links for the software appear to only be for the notebooks and not compatible with my desktop system. I've downloaded the available software (IDT High-Definition Audio driver) found under my HPE HI-1287 product from HP's support site but the Beats audio control panel doesn't seem to make any sound quality changes. Hopefully there is a driver somewhere compatible with my desktop system that allows controling the audio properly. Thanks.

I understand that the Beats Audio Console is not adjusting the audio settings on your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1287c Desktop PC running Windows 8.1. According to the HP Pavilion HPE h8-1287c Desktop PC Drivers page there are no Windows 8.1 drivers for your computer. I can only assume that this means your computer is currently using Windows default drivers or Windows 8 drivers and the Beats Audio Console is not able to interact properly with the currently installed driver.
All I can recommend is that you check back periodically to the drivers page I linked above and see if Windows 8.1 drivers have been created. Other than that your only option at this time would be to use the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) to restore your computer back to Windows 8 where the Beats Audio Console has drivers that are compatible.
