MBP power adapter

I have noticed that lately, after I got my new battery from Apple, (it malfunctioned and I got a new one under warranty), that my power adapter has gotten louder and louder with its buzzing noise. I told Apple about it before I received the new battery, and they said that it was normal, but I don't think it's normal anymore. What can I do about it?

If you already contacted Apple about it, there's little you can do about it. If you have brought it into your Genius Bar and they have said it is within normal limits, there is nothing Apple will do about that.
You can purchase a new one, or a used one on eBay or the like.
For the record -- I administer about 15 MBA's in my office, and not one of them makes any sound in the power adapter.

  • Traveling with my MBP power adapter ??

I have a 2.16 Intel MBP. We use 110 current where I live and our power cords have the same prongs as the US cords. I will be in Europe in a few days and wanted to know if the adapter that came with my MPB would have any problems with the 220v European current. The adapter says 110v-240v on it, but I wanted to be sure by asking anyone here if they would expect any problem.
    Thanks in advance.

A tip for other devices you can read the label right on it where it will say the acceptable input voltages , such as 100-240 V and frequency , for example 50/60 Hz. Most power supplies for computers and the like are all dual voltage.
Buy a plug adapter from a $1 store in any ethnic neighborhood or at a radio Shack. Some of these "kits" are outrageously expensive and include plug adapters for countries you will never see in a lifetime.

  • MBP power adapter on MB?

I have a MocBook, and my partner has a MacBook Pro. I know that my (MB) adapter can safely be used on his MBP (although it will take longer to charge the battery than the correct adapter), but does anyone know if I can safely use his MBP adaptor on my MB?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Lots of misinformation, guys.
There is absolutely no problem with using a higher wattage MacBook Pro adapter on the MacBook. Works just fine and a lot of guys here use it.
However, there is no real need for the higher wattage adapter on the MacBook, no advantage. The MacBook power needs are far lower than what the Pro adapter supplies. No warranty issues here, y'all.
What you shouldn't do is use the Macbook adapter on the Macbook Pro. The Macbook adapter doesn't have the power capacity that the Pro will want during heavy CPU use.

  • Alternating LEDs on MBP Power Adapter

    Hi,
Just before New Year I noticed that my adapter's charge LED had started alternating between green and orange every two seconds or so; I'd left the MBP to recharge over lunch. Since then it's continued to do this once the battery reaches full charge. The various OS indicators of battery charge (menu bar battery icon, System Profiler's Power Information etc) all switch every ten seconds or so between 'charging' and 'charged'.
There's a few similar stories like this in the discussion list; anyone else seeing this behaviour too?
I've tried resetting the SMC, but this didn't fix the problem. I have not tried resetting PRAM, because others who have tried this have not reported success.
My battery has run 37 charge cycles according to System Profiler and CoconutBattery. Current capacity is around 80%.
    Here's my system settings:
MacBook Pro, 2GHz Intel Core Duo
    1GB RAM
    OS X 10.4.8
    Boot ROM Version: MBP11.0055.B08
    SMC Version: 1.2f10

Well, I've received and calibrated my replacement battery, and all now seems well. No more alternating LEDs, so I guess the duff battery's behaviour was confusing the charge routine somehow. If you're getting alternating LEDs, I'd suggest checking that your battery is eligible for exchange. The road goes ever on...
Actually, I did notice on the old battery that a very slight gap had appeared between the metal bottom plate and the plastic shell at one corner. A careful sniff revealed that something (very faint) was coming from this gap, so good thing I exchanged the battery when I did.
    Back to work and play.

  • Mac Book Pro Power Adapter with USB charge ports?

Does anyone make a MBP power adapter with 2 USB charge ports? It seems logical to have one power adapter that charge your MBP, iPhone and iPad all at the same time while minimizing the things one would have to carry on travel.

    Hopefully!
I said to them "you dont even need to put the ports on the brick itself, put it on that little wall plug adapter thingy... that way if you only want to charge your iOS devices you can leave the brick in the bag!... Fingers crossed and thanks again for the help tjk!

  • Can using a MB power adapter with a MBP become a problem?

I got a late 2008 Macbook here and a early 2008 Macbook Pro. I noticed that the power adapters are of different size. When I use the power adapter of the late 2008 Macbook with my early 2008 Macbook Pro, it gets quite hot which, I assume, is due to a higher power requirement of the early 2008 MBP.
    Can this become a problem?

Although I cannot say for your particular combination, the general rule tends to be that a power adaptor that is lower in power rating than what was issued can run the computer or charge the battery, but not both. There are time when you need max power. It's obvious from Apple docs and reports here that the MBP can draw from both the battery and AC power under extreme workload condition. In such a case the battery would run down, something less likely to happen with the proper adaptor.
I have a pre-owned PowerBook G4 17" that should have a 65W power adaptor but came with a 45W unit. It will not start on AC power without some charge on the battery. That's the stuff you can encounter.

  • MBP w/ MB power adapter?

has anyone tried to use the MB power adapter with the MBP? or the other way around? I'm scared to try, but having both computers it'd be nice to use just one powercable...

You can use the MBP adapter for the MB - it will only draw the power it needs with no harm to the MB. The MB adapter will power your MBP, or charge the battery, but not both. No harm there either (like the MagSafe airline adapter, which powers the computer but does not charge the battery) - it's just not the most efficient set up.
    Hope this helps...

  • Using Alu Power Adapter with The new MBP Unibody 2009 ? (Both 85 Watts)

    Hi,
Can i use the Power Adapter off my Aluminium MBP 2.5 GHz,15" intel core 2 Duo (MacBookPro4,1), with the new Unibody 15" 2.66 GHz(MacBookPro5,1)?
    They are both 85 Watts.
The Power adapter for Aluminium is :
    Input : 100-240V - 1,5A 50-60Hz
    Output : 16,5-18,5V, 4,6 A Max
    Delta Eletronic
The Power Adapter for Unibody is :
    Input : 100-240V - 1,5A 50-60Hz
    Output : 18,5V 4,6A, 16,5V, 3,6A
    LiteOn Technology
    Thanks for The Lights.

    That's correct, I meant to type 85W.
Can anyone advise what the impact will be of using older 85W adapters with the new MBP's that come with a 60W adapter?
Is there a shorter battery life in the long-term, or is the new battery designed to cope the same with either of these power adapters?

  • MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging?  Help

MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging?  Help

Both the system and the charger are still under warranty. If you feel you have a defective part you should take both into apple to be checked out and replaced if found defective.
I also sugest you buy the applecare extended warranty before your standard one year warranty expires, you can only buy it during the original one year warranty. Once that has expired you can no longer buy it.
To fix any mac computer once out of warranty is expensive and even more so for the retina models.

  • MBP discharges battery even while power adapter plugged in.

Just recently, my MBP started discharging its battery even while the power adapter was plugged in. Eventually, it goes dead and shuts itself off, then starts recharging. I've turned off bluetooth and airport, going to a wired/plug in mouse, but that doesn't stop it, nor does changing to "better energy savings" while on Power Adapter. While it is going down, time of course remains "Calculating until full" -- I've checked the pins, and even spent 3 hours yesterday driving to the apple store, waiting, getting a new batter from the genius, and driving back home. Then it happened again with the new battery this morning, after it was fully charged last night.
    Any suggestions? thoughts?

Have the MBP repaired via AppleCare. Just let them know what it's doing. I'd guess at a fault in the charging circuit, but this is obviously not normal behaviour!

  • MBP 5,2 wont turn on without power adapter runs fine after started even if unplugged

I have a Mid 2009 MBP 5,2 3.06 c2d 8gb-ddr3-1066 that wont power up without its power adapter however works fine once its started without the power adaptor for the full 4 hours battery life. I can put the computer into sleep (closing the lid) and open it and it works fine. When I push the power button I hear the fans spin up then it dies and if i keep pushing the power button then sometimes ill get to the login screen before it dies but it starts fine with the power adaptor.
I hate to spend $3200 and have it only last 3 years but its so embarrasing to have the computer not work in front of my coworkers.
I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM still unsuccessful in startup.
The computer stated just dieing on me out of nowhere initialy causing much grief and lost data but after resetting the SMC it seemed to have fixed the sudden shutoff issue.
Anyone else have this problem? Perhaps my battery is bad? Logic boards cost as much as a macbook air from what I've heard. Anyone have a 5,2 with this problem as well?

This problem isn't limited to the 5,2 model. My 2007 MacBook 2.16gHz model 2,1 exhibited the same problems that were initially "fixed" by the resets but now is out of commission with a dead logic board. You've done the things you can do, I'd recommend you take it in for service.

  • Mid-2009 13" MBP says "not charging" but seems to be slowly charging with power adapter

I have a mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM.  I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging."  I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have.  It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old.  It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential.  The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening.  The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.
Any ideas if this is a battery, laptop, or power adapter problem?  Unfortunately, I don't have a second power adapter to test that idea.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Recalling another similar thread, I can recommend you thoroughly clean the male and female MagSafe connectors. The gold pins and pads must be shiny bright and totally debris free. Use a Q-Tip moistened with alcohol, disconnect the power brick beforehand. Also, make sure the rubberized area around the connector in the Mac, where the magnet lies and the steel ring around the cable connector nestles, is completely free of anything that can prevent the two from fully mating and ensuring a tight grip. Here's more info, look at the pics on #7: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713  (click on the triangles to have them drop and show the pictures)

  • When The MBP is plugged in (power adapter) what happens with the battrey

I have the newest Macbook pro, the one you cant take the battrey out from..
I just want to be sure, when my macbook pro is using the adapter, the battrey life time is being saved, is that correct?
I ust to plug in my iPod and another hardrive for time machine, i just want to know that the both of them wont eat my battrey, and anyway, that i use my battrey correct by using most of the time the power adapter and not the battrey...
thanks for the answers to come...
    **sorry for my lame Eglish...**

+when my macbook pro is using the adapter, the battrey life time is being saved, is that correct?+
Even when you have AC power connected there may be times it draws power from the battery as well, that's the way it's designed to manage power peaks.
Apple suggest you use the battery for a while every day then re-charge it and every couple of months re-calibrate it for best long term performance.
