MBP randomly selecting/erasing text as I type

I'm using a MBP 1,1 (dual-core 15") from 2006, and it's getting really cranky in its old age. For the past few months, it's occasionally frozen up for several minutes at a time, beachball spinning, with the HD making little grind-grind sounds.
Now, as I work, it's occasionally moving my cursor all over the place as I type -- to other sentences or even to other windows -- and selecting & deleting words or whole sentences during typing. It makes it impossible to use normally.
I've tried safe-booting and zapping the PRAM; it still does it.
Any thoughts?

Joanne Murray J2 What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what operating system (including 32 or 64 bit) is your Premiere Elements installed? Forgive the questions if you have been there and done that, but I do not want to take anything for granted that might hinder a speedy resolution to your issue. Are you opening an already created title that is sitting on the Timeline in order to edit it in the Titler or are you trying to create a new Title (Default Text or other)? Do you know how to work with the Selection Tool and Type Tool in the Titler? Once I know what version of Premiere Elements that you are using, I will give you specific how to details. Thanks. ATR

BB Curve 9300 doing random things, won't let me type my unlock password, send/receive texts or phone calls

I have had my BB Curve 9300 for 1 day, today it appears to be doing random things, when I try to type my unlock password it is putting random characters in. Its also sending random text messages out and I am unable to answer any calls? Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like this could be a software issue. Have you upgrade any of the software or changes any settings or put a different OS on the phone?
If Not
I would suggest taking it back to where you bought it and have them issue it as an OBF (Out of Box Failure). Afew BBS have this problem and usually they come with a 7 days warranty in case of a manufacturing fault. Should that be the case I would recommend that you take your 9300 back and demand for either a replacement of for them to fix it for you free of charge.
But should you have changed something or added new software then the fault lays on you and you're responsible for the fixing of the BB.

Can't select vertical text formatting since Win 7

Please help.
Have recently upgraded to win 7 and now I cannot select any text formatting options in the drop down text menus. I can see them, but the drop down menu buttons don't work.
Has anyone had this happen?
I have spent so much time on the computer and it's so hard to get any work done.
Advice would be much appreciated
I would like to go back to XP but the computer guy says that's not possible.

Your solution means that I can now use the tools in the tools palette, but no luck with being able to use the text selection drop down menus.
It's quizzical. I can select the fonts by clicking through file the file path> type> font. Just not through drop downs.
Any thoughts anyone?

If you searched the notes, as Dan proposed (and didn't find anything relevant), and the answer to the Greg's question is positive, then I would suggest regeneration data basis and ConsArea due to data model inconsistency.
If it doesn't not help - open customer message to SAP.

Selection screen text not appearing in other than engllish language .

Hello All,
            On selction screen I have 3 select-option and 2 radio button for that I have the selection text maintain in 'Selection Text".
            When I login to system using French language then on selection screen only select options text is appearing in French language and Radio buttons text is not appearing in French language, it appearing in English language. In the program where I have maintain the selction text one column is there name as "Dictionary Object" which has the check box. In that, for select options check box is check in Dictionary object but for Radio button that check box is in disable mode.
             So how can Radio buttons text is appearing in French language when login through french language.

You've two options. One, log in in French and maintain the texts for the radio buttons directly. Two, use tx SE63 to maintain the texts for the radio buttons in French.
The select-options are automatically translated because their texts come from the data dictionary, and (as presumably they're SAP standard types), they're already translated as part of the French language pack. But the radio-buttons you have to do yourself.

You're having the 'bad' NVIDIA card kernel panics...

If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.

Why doesn't the clock just decide what colour it is going to be? If you need to pass the colour choices in, just let the clock accept a collection of colours in its constructor or something. I don't understand what bit of this you are having problems with as you haven't really explained. Please also use code tags.

Why can't I copy text from these types of webpages (usually Korean blogs)?

I want to copy the text on Korean blogs, but I can't even select the text... or anything on the page (not even pictures). Anyone know a workaround for this? I'd really appreciate it!

These sites uses a script to (somehow) disable selection. To copy from these sites, you might need to disable JavaScript. There is an on/off button type extension that you can use to do that quickly/temporarily.

Perhaps there is a more targeted workaround, but since I do not read Korean, it's challenging to investigate.

Select List/Text Field

On my form I have a dynamic select lists What I want to do is that, if the required value is not in the select list, then the user can type it in. Then on saving the record the value is added to the select list.
Any ideas appreciated

I guess the easiest way to do that is to put a text item next to the select list.
If you don't find the value, you type in there.
Or you could add for ex. an other in the select list and when that's selected, the text item gets visible.
Next to that you want a process that handles the insert into the table.

Selecting Through Text to a Layer Beneath

I am having trouble selecting a layer that is beneath a layer of text. This layer of text has several lines in it and I can see the layer beneath. If I use the move tool with auto select on (and set to Layer, not Group), I should be able to select a layer that matches the top-most item that I click onto in my document.
So if I have a square laying on top of a circle and I click the square, the layer with the square is selected. And if there is a layer of text on top of the square, I am able to auto-select the text by clicking on any letter. BUT the problem is that I need to be able to select the square even when I am clicking between the letters and lines of the text layer.
Right now, I have to click outside the complete "boundaries" of the text to get to the layer beneath (by "boundaries", I mean the top an bottom and left and right sides of where the text exists on the layer... and this happens no matter if the text was created by dragging out a text box or not... i.e. point type or paragraph type).
If memory serves, I could do this in Photoshop CS1 just by clicking between letters or lines. As long as I wasn't clicking on a "pixel" of text (yes, it is live text, but I hope you get my gist), I'd be able to select the layer beneath.
Any help? I cannot find any setting for changing this. I hope I'm not stuck with this... THANKS!

OK...further:
In my reply above, I was testing with and referencing PS CS2. My reply simply detailed what you were talking about, in different, metaphorical terms. I rather blindly ignored your question about any differences between Photoshop versions.
So, I opened up PS 7, and tried the same thing...
Layer 0 (promoted from
Background)
Rectangular Shape Layer
3 lines of double spaced text, all of which fit well within the area defined by the shape layer.
With "Auto Select Layer" checked, and "Show Bounding Box"
UN
-checked in the Options Bar:
Start by clicking on "Layer 0" and it becomes highlighted in the Layers Palette.
...Click on the edge of the Rectangular Shape Layer, and the Layers Palette reflects this selection.
...Click on one of the letters, and that text layer is selected, as shown in the Layers Palette.
...Click on the space between the lines of text, and the rectangular Shape Layer is again selected.
BUT!
If you CHECK the "Show Bounding Box" option, the space between the lines of text no longer has the "Click-through-to-the-shape-layer-below" capability. You have to click outside of the "TBB".
Now, let's compare that behavior to the way it works in PS CS2; The significant difference is this:
It doesn't matter whether you have the "Show Transform Controls" box checked or UNchecked in the Move Tool's Option Bar choices, that space between lines of text no longer has the "Click-through-to-the-shape-layer-below" capability. That "sheet of glass" that the text layer sits on is ALWAYS there, so you have to go round the side to get at the box underneath.
NOTICE! The difference. Not only has the behavior changed, but the name for the function in the Options Bar has changed from "Show Bounding Box" to "Show Transform Controls." Because I updated directly from PS 7 to PS CS2, I don't know what took place with any changes in PS CS (1). And since I don't use PS CS3, I don't know if anything else has changed.
Sooo, bottom line is you'll just have to experiment, and figure out what works best for you, and then just resign yourself to the fact that it's just the way it works now.

Partial selection of Text in Editbox

Please help me with this..
In an Edit box, I want to highlight/select a portion of the text programmatically.
For example, if there's "Some Text" displayed in the text box, I want to select only "Text".
(I am implementing auto-fill (autocomplete) feature in a user defined form.
For that, I need this functionality.
When user starts typing "S", I need to put "ome Text" in the textbox programmetically, as highlighted text. So, if actually user wanted to enter "Scene", instead of "Some Text" suggested by my autocomplete, he need not manually delete the remaining text)
In a google toolbar, if you type any characters, you are getting a popup window with all the matching entries, right?
I want a similar functionality in SBO.
So, Please tell me if you can think of any Multi-Line control in SBO
-In which items can be selected
-Which can display multiple items at a time .
I tried with all the controls of screen painter.
Nothing works..For example, in Pane combo box, only a single item can be viewed at a time.
Grid works, but it is not appealing to the user, for this purpose.

I'm trying whether there are any work-arounds.
I'm using sendkeys, and trying the following:
1. Sending RightArrow keys, to position the cursor in the correct position. (i.e, right after the text entered by the user) - I could achieve it!
2. I am sending Shift + End key to highlight the remaining text - It doesn't work:(
But, in the Eventlogs, it produces logs for Shift+End key, so sendkeys works. I don't know why the text is not highlighted.
Please give me ur inputs.

Spotlight is randomly selective

Upgraded to Tiger mostly for Spotlight, to cross-ref. my research papers, except that Spotlight is randomly selective, i.e. doesn't find all the documents all the time, not even when looking for special terminology, appearing only a few times.
Not only spooky if it can spot a document for one word but not for the next, but worthless as a research tool.
Please help me!
(No spelling mistakes, I've even tested copy and paste)

Sto, the following post by John McGhie, Microsoft MVP, Word and Word for Macintosh. Consultant Technical Writer, Sydney, Australia may help:
"Spotlight can look at only the first 100,000 bytes of any file. The question is whether or not the words you are looking for occur within bytes 0 to 99,999 in the file as it is written to disk. In Microsoft Word files, the text is not necessarily stored in the file in the order in which it appears in the document (in fact, if the document has been edited much, you can guarantee that it isn't...)
A Word document internally is a collection of "pieces", some of those pieces  are text. If a document were to have, for example, a graphic in the running  header, plus a large table of styles and numbering formats, it could well be  80 or 90 kB down the file before you even begin to see "text".
As an interesting "test", save a copy of that document as "text only". Word  will write it out to disk with the text in exactly the order that it prints,  and the file will contain nothing BUT text. Then, chances are Spotlight will find the search string perfectly. Open the text version of the document and save it as a Word document. Chances are, Spotlight will still find the string, because there's still nothing much between the front of the file and the search string. Now throw a few graphics into the document, attach a template and update its styles, and move a few sentences around. Make sure one of the sentences you move is the one containing the text you are searching for (note: I said "sentences", not "paragraphs", we don't want to make things too easy for it...). Save the document and close Word. Chances are that at that point, Spotlight will be unable to find the text, because now it has been moved within the file so that now it's below Spotlight's search depth.
In a typical Word document, something like half of the bytes in the file are  not "text", they're formatting, graphics, styles, numbering, languages,  fonts etc. All the usual paraphernalia that distinguishes a Word document  from "text". And makes it difficult for search engines to index..."

Now some would ask, why stop indexing at first 100,000 bytes? Well, not only could it take a lot of time, but the resulting storage could be enormous. As a developer of massive database search and management applications, a recently imported 340mb text file containing 250,000 records ended up at 1.5 gigs. Without indexing, what took 3 minutes to find something, takes less that a second with indexing.

Why do I get Underlines even with None selected in Text Decoration

How to select unselectable text

How do I select unelectable text on Safari so I can copy and paste?

Rather than repeat the reply I recently provided to a similar question, take a look at the ASC thread "...select and Copy Text from A WEB SITE...". My reply explains how to access a Google cached text-only version of a webpage. In brief: type "cache:" at the beginning of a web address and press the Enter key. Click on the "Text-only version" link. This is only one method, but is generally effective when needing to copy text. One caveat being that it won't work on pages that aren't cached, as may be the case as you traverse deeper into a website or visit more obscure ones. Depending upon the technologies involved, there are other instances where it will fail; certainly when the text presented is in an image format.
