MBP randomly shuts down when on power
The last couple of days I have experienced several times that my macbook pro suddenly shuts down while I am working. I have read about others experiencing the same problem while running the MBP on battery, but I am running on power.
Two months ago I got new battery and main board because of a short circuit when I pushed the power button.
Any ideas what to do?
It is to early to say, but I suspect it may have something to do with my airport express, because every time the MBP have shut down, its while I have streamed music from iTunes to airport express.
I am using a 6 months old Macbook Pro with Mac OS 10.5.4
You might try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and/or PRAM (Parameter Random Access Memory). Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM?
The SMC controls some of the sleep functions.

MBP randomly shuts down without warning
Lately my MBP has been randomly shutting down when not plugged in to charger.
No warning, battery isn't low (usually about 50% charge), and the machine just turns off completely and won't turn back on until I plug it back in.Here's what that shows (not sure what to look for):

MBP randomly shuts down every few hours (while plugged in)
MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009
3.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Battery has been shoddy for a few years now. Only lasts about 15-30 minutes, but I just use the power cord.
Recently, the MBP (with cord plugged in) has been randomly shutting down every few hours. Immediately prior to shutting down, the status bar says the battery is fully charged, and I can unplug the cord, and there are no issues. When restart the computer, the battery will now say it's anywhere from 0-60% full.
The fact that the MBP shuts down even with the cord leads me to believe it's a logic board issue. If that's the case, what's the best option?
I figure I can either:
1. Replace just the battery and assume the healthy battery will weather any logic board lapses
2. Replace both the battery and the logic board
My local Apple Store said they could replace the logic board and battery for $300 total.
Is this necessary, and if so, is it worth buying the parts and trying to replace myself?Yes, it's the flat-rate depot repair.
Ok, you've (mostly) answered my primary concern... I was wondering what would happen if it turns out this isn't a logic board issue, and if my $310 would go to waste. The thing is that, right now, my MBP appears to be working perfectly fine until it randomly shuts off, which can take a few hours. So, if the depot replaces the logic board + battery, the MBP appears to be working there (I can't imagine they'll test it for more than 5 minutes), the depot sends it back, and after hours of use, I still have the same issue, I'll be able to get a refund, yes?
If so, I'll probably just opt for this deal since replacement parts on eBay appear to be about the same price.
Thanks for the help! -
MBP suddenly shuts down when using the superdriveP shuts down when u
Randomly my husband:s MBP shuts down when using the super drive. What could be the cause of this?
Appreciatte your HelpYeah, I hope it is just a firmware-problem. AND that Nokia will release an update soon. The version on my phone now is 021.013, and it is from July. A firmware update is long overdue now, especially after all the other problems reported with this phone. And btw I have turned the phone on and off several times without this helping to fix the radio-issue...
I guess I will have to return the phone soon, if Nokia is unable to release a fixed firmware. -
My daughter has a recent 13" MBP running 10.6.2. Lately, since the 10.6.2 upgrade, the machine has taken to randomly shutting down. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. This evening she lost a couple of hours of work because of this (and not saving often enough). Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't found much on the forum.
Rick.I agree with previous posts.
I was having similar issues and here's what I did:
-download the combo 10.6.2
-repair permissions
-update 3rd party applications (i.e. Flash)
-repair permissions and verify disk to be sure (again)
-reset PRAM
-restart
-reset SMC
-also did a hardware test from the Apple Care Tech Tool
Sounds like paranoia but all of my issues were frustrating - kernel panics, application running slowly, random restarts, hot temps, fans 6000+ RPMs, iDVD, CPU spikes, slow start and shut down, etc.
As of now, no issues and everything is running smoothly. Actually, SL is running faster than ever before. Flash websites are operating fine.
Hope this helps for anyone else.

Is there a way to have the nano automatically shut down when external power is removed?
My old ipod shut down when I disconnected the external power, a useful feature when using it in the car. Can the 6th Gen nano be configured to do this?
Not that I'm aware.

When unplugged my MBP randomly shuts down and won't start up again
When my MBP is unplugged it randomly shuts off and won't restart. To get it to boot up again I have to plug it in.
Today I was using my computer for about 15 minutes unplugged and it just shut down by itself. I was right in the middle of typing something and it just cut out. The other weird thing is I don't get a low battery warning, nothing, it just shuts down.
Then I press the power button to restart and I get nothing. Even when I pull the battery out and put it back in nothing. I pressed the battery level button and it blinked rapidly on the lowest 2 lights. Keep in mind I was using my computer unplugged for only 15 minutes immediately after unplugging it from the wall after it had been charing for 15+ hours.
This makes no sense. Please help me.
-JacobSounds like a bad battery and/or problem with the PMU (power management unit) and/or memory.
"Half the start up sound" is a bad sign as it means it's failing the normal start up tests (I'd guess a Memory problem)
Reset the PMU and run the Hardware tests from Install DVD1 (hold down d at startup) and see what it reports. -
Mac shuts down when 90% POWER and its PLUGGED IN!
I recently took over my husbands mac pro OS 10.4.11. At first, all was going well. Then I noticed one day, it shut down on me and I was like, that's weird, I had no warning. I did see other postings about this so it must be common or an issue with the battery. The thing is, its plugged in 100% of the time when I use it...if I do not have it plugged in, well, it shuts down after about 5mins...if that. I am not sure what is going on. Does anyone know (if it is the battery), roughly what a fix like this would cost? I read on other posts that you need the battery info, etc....this is what my mac says: Anyone have any idea just looking at this?? I greatly appreciate it!!!!!

For instance, it has been plugged in all day and my battery icon (at the top right) shows 98%...but the power cord (normally green light shows, is orange)...it just shut off on me about 5mins ago again. No warning, no programs saying they will close, just went black. No hibernation, etc...I had to push the "on" button to get it back on...It's so frustrating. Almost like it has had enough and goes off or like it's dying....So even though the battery shows fully charged, it still just shuts off....and I can be in the middle of typing or web surfing, etc...it doesn't happen when I just have it on but not using it (like a power saving thing)..it shuts off even when it is actually being used. I have no clue what to do.

MBP Randomly Shuts Down!!
I have had my MBP for a year now and everything has been working great until recently. About a week ago it randomly shut off while I was on the internet. The battery was about 60% full and I just thought it did this because it got too hot. Today the same thing happened, however, this time it was not hot. I tried starting it back up 3 times and every time it shut down during start up. Any ideas on what might be going on here and how to fix it?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)Hi,
Does it happen only on battery ?
If it occurs, contact your nearest CMAA for an exchange, maybe your battery is one of the Sony's Burning series -
Mac mini shut down when i power off my samsumg led smart tv
I'm new to mac mini. In fact Mac at all. I use my samsumg led smart tv as display using hdmi port # 4 in my tv. I have also other devices connect to my tv like my apple tv in hdmi also. I don't know why but when i power off my tv, my mac mini stop to work (like a shut down) and when i power on again my tv i must press the power button on my mac mini in order to use it again, it is no longer list in my listed sources on my tv. My apple tv don't have the same behavior, when my tv is back, I just have to select it again in my source list and it will be back there. Is there something I should change or know in order to have my mac mini always available. I'd like to be able to connect to it from other places using vnc, but right now it's always shutting down and even if I try to power on it after my tv close, it wont when my tv is power off. Somebody can help me? Thank you!
Hi Linda,
Unplugging it from AC power will drain the PRAM Battery in short order, thereby losing setting, like Monitor resolution.
You can test the Pram Battery by disconnecting from the Internet so Date/Time doesn't update before you see it, shutdown, unplug AC for a bit, startup & check Time.
In Sys Pefs>Displays, can you set the resolution? -
Satellite A300 shuts down when the power adapter plug is inserted
Hi people
When i connect power cable to my toshiba sat a300, it shuts down immediatly. I can use it on battery normally without any problems.
When i boot in the safe mode, it works properly without any problem with the AC Adapter connected to the Notebook.
OS is Windows Vista
What is the reason? what i can do to solve this problem?

I can start the Notekook with the AC Adapter plugged, but it turns off before to reach the Welcome Screen or reboot. I tried straight to install Windows 7 with a another HDD . As soon as only the installation files are loaded, the system starts again. I do not reach times the beautiful blue window, of where the actual installation can be started.

MBP started shutting down when moved
I've had a 17” MPB for several months and it’s worked fine all this time, no problems. Upgraded to 10.4.9 a few days ago, didn’t start experiencing this problem until today. Here’s what’s happening:
I'm using the laptop at home. I close it up (which puts it into sleep mode), put it in the briefcase and take it to work. Open it up, it’s shut down. Interestingly, I push the power button and the sleep light comes on for a second, and then the computer starts up and goes through the regular boot cycle.
I then have to go connect my laptop to a digital camera in another part of the office, something I do routinely. I download the pictures, unplug the camera, lift the laptop up and it just shuts off instantly.
I reboot, leave it on the bench where it sits, run Cocktail to go through all the Unix scripts, repair permissions, clear caches, etc..., then do a restart, thinking hopefully that will clean things up. Once it’s started back up, I pick it up to bring it back into my office and again it instantly shuts down.
It seems to be fine if I just don’t move it, but if I move it, boom it’s just gone. This is a problem for a laptop.
Any ideas? If I can’t quickly get this remedied, I have a huge problem.OK guys, figured it out, sorry to waste anyone’s time. After I entered my post above, I unplugged the computer to re-test and the minute I unplugged it shut down. Before, it wouldn’t shut down until I picked it up and moved it. So I wondered if the battery was properly seated. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that before. I guess I thought if I could unplug it and it stayed on that the battery had to be in there.
Well one side was unlatched. I pushed it back in and away we went. All seems well at the moment.
Sorry again. -
Randomly shuts down when closing screen...power related?
I'm not 100% sure this is power related, but I see all kinds of other posts about similar phenomena. I'm posting anyway because I didn't find one that is exactly the same as this issue. If there is a thread I missed, please point me to it.
Anyway, here's the problem. Sometimes when I close the lid of my macbook to put it to sleep it will restart. It will play the startup sound almost as soon as I close the lid. This happens without regard to whether the computer is plugged in or not. I have checked software update, and it's not telling me I need a firmware update or anything. I even tried downloading a firmware update that was recommended for some issues, but my mac told me I didn't need it (so I didn't install it). I would appreciate any suggestions.
I have a second issue which may or may not be related - sometimes my macbook will not wake up from sleep, and I have to hold the restart button. This also happens without regard to whether the computer is plugged in. Again, suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! You might try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and/or PRAM (Parameter Random Access Memory). Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM?
The SMC controls some of the sleep functions.

Stalls when trying to export media to HD 1080p 25fps PAL
Hi, I'm trying to export the media to HD 1080p 25fps PAL but it stalls about 10% into the export. I am able to export the sequence to Youtube 1080p 25fps PAL though although I don't know if this is suitable for TV broadcast quality. Does anyone know
