MBP read commercial disks but not its own
My Mac Book Pro will read commercial disks (DVDs) like movies, books on CD, etc. And it can write disks (DVDs). But lately it cannot read the disks it writes. I tried the disk the MBP wrote on another computer and it read just fine. So I am confused. Why can it read and write DVDs but not the ones that it writes?
Any ideas
Only idea is that your SuperDrive just may not be that "super" any longer. Take the machine to an Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on the optical drive. Be sure and take some of the DVDs that you've been able to write but cannot read.

I read a lot of discussion but I didn't find the same problem.
So I have a MBP 15", 2.16Ghz intel core duo, and 2 Go RAM.
I have the 10.5.8 version installed, and I want to erase the disk and do a re-install of 10.5 because I've got some bugs :
- my MBP starts really slowly (about 15min),
- it bugs when I suspend the activity (black screen, nothing works... I have to push the "ON" button a longtime to stop the mac, )
- and other ponctual bugs.
The problem is that my MBP don't read the installation DVD (leopard or even Tiger).
It reads the DVD, I heard that the DVD turns, but after 3/4 try, the MBP ejects the DVD.
But It reads Blank CD, DVD (many zone)... Only the installation DVD is not reading.
I've already try :
-to begin in safemode (with SHIFT button => it is not ok)
- to push "C" key" at the restart (it's not ok, the MBP eject before blue screen.. it seems that the MBP is waiting to eject the install DVD to start)
- to create an other account (not ok)
- to restart the V/P RAM 5 times (not ok)
So, Is there a solution ? If the Mac can read sometimes CD or movie DVD, that mean that the otpical drive isn't broken...

(sorry if there's some english mistakes !)So, I've tried to start in target disc mod with a firewire.... Not lucky, I can read in the "information System" that my firewire is not recognized. It's weird because I can charge my ipod with firewire, but the target mode doesn't work !!!

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

PDX index works in adobe reader 9.4 but not in adobe X !!
Hello I have some commercial genealogy DVD's, bought a few years ago, with PDX files on them that work fine with adobe reader 9.4 but not in adobe reader X. Adobe reader X says they are invalid PDX index files. Ofcourse adobe says that version X is Backward compatible and I must contact the vendor of my dvd's !!!.
Does anybody else has this problem ?
I do not have the pro version so I cannot rebuild the indexes myself.

I actually contacted my vendor and he is sending me a new disk free of charge . He told me he had to destroy his whole stock of cd's that contains old pdx files. -
Why can I see other peoples' WiFi networks but not my own?
This is a problem that started when an engineer came to replace our TV's set top box as well as our router a few weeks ago. I'll run through everything in quick bullet-point form...
-My flatmates are able to see and connect to our network with no issues at all on their XP laptops.
I, on the other hand, can not see or connect to our network at all. However, I am able to see other WiFi networks.
-Days of rebooting and replugging the router, my iMac and AirPort card prove fruitless.
-Throughout all this, the router is sat on top of the set top box, which is sat on top of the TV. I move the router down so its sat next to the TV and a plant. I'm able to see and connect to our network with no issues.
-Three weeks later, the problem has returned. I can't see our network but my flatmates aren't affected.
-Thinking it may just be poor reception in my room, I set up my Mac in the front room a couple of feet away from the router. I detect other networks, but still not my own.
-More unplugging and rebooting later, hallelujah, I can see and connect to our network. I take the Mac back to my room and try from there. No luck. The familiar XBoxLive8973498374, BT-HomeHub8934897, TalkTalk439847 (etc) and Sofia networks come up in my networks list as usual but not our own SpeedTouch459873439847 (etc).
We have a Thomson ST 585 router and I have an iMac G4 with the original AirPort card. Short of buying a new router, does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it?This is what MacStumbler sees when my Mac is situated a couple of feet from the router in the front room:

Our network is the one labelled SpeedTouch. As you can see, my AirPort antenna seems to be working perfectly. However, the SpeedTouch connection (and only the Speedtouch connection) would be lost intermittently for several minutes at a time.

The SpeedTouch signal strength is obviously not as strong but still reasonable. I don't seem to have any issues anymore; I can see, connect and stay connected to our network with no real problem - but I haven't changed any settings on the router. -
I have home sharing on in iTunes but can't see my library when I use the computers icon on Apple TV. iTunes does display my purchased tunes but not my own imports.
I can play my own tunes by selecting them on my iMAC and directing them to Apple TV. I think that I should be able to see my entire library on Apple TV shouldn't I?
Am up-to-date with iTunes and using Mavericks OS. I am connecting to Apple TV with an Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-FI and a brand new Apple TV.

RogerOkay, so HomeSharing is not working. Most likely due to a network issue.
Is the ATV and computer running iTunes actually on the same network? Many new routers create seperate networks for the wired and wireless portions of the local network. -
I just want to report inconsistencies in synchronizing 4 machines. ALL four were introduced to syncing in the last week or so under the latest Firefox. No account was open under the older sync method.
3 machines below run Firefox 33.0. The Windows XP machine runs Firefox 32.
Two Win 8.1 PCs sync well between each other (can see each other's tabs and bookmarks).
A Win7 Starter Edition PC syncs nothing in & out, even though the Sync icon turns when clicked on.
A WinXP PC communicates its bookmarks and bookmark folders to the Win8 PCs, but NOT its tabs. After the commands HISTORY | TABS FROM OTHER DEVICES in the Win8 PCs, no tab from the XP computer shows up, even though the XP computer has open active tabs.* How do I turn on sync logs:
# Open about:config and turn on: services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess and services.sync.log.logger.engine.bookmarks
# Restart Firefox and look at: about:sync-log
# Logs and error messages will be located here

IPod shows up as disk but not in iTunes on Yosemite
Hi,
I have an iPod classic, previously owned by a different family member on a different library. I wanted to erase and get my own content on. The problem is that it does come up as a disk in Finder, but not in iTunes.
I have used on various other computers (all Yosemite), no problem. Just on this one it doesn't work.
I have tried to create a new library, same problem.
I have tried under a different user, same problem.
All other iOS devices work fine.
Same problem for all iPod (classic, nano, ...) which show up as disks, but not in iTunes.
The only difference is that I have Yosemite Server running on the same computer. Not sure whether this could be the reason?

Do you have two different catalogues (One for you and other one for your husband)

In Elements organizer go to File>Manage Catalogs and check if you have any catalogue listed of your name.
if yes, double click on that catalogue and it will open the media on that catalogue. -
Bought an ipad 2 for christmas but it won't connect to my wireless. My modem/router is an Arris 653 B eurospec DOCSIS. The wifi works on an unsecured network I have in the bldg but not my own network. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm not familiar with your router but are there any buttons on the front or back of it because sometimes you need to pair the router in order for your PC, laptop, phone or iPad to connect wirelessly with it?
From the routers I have used there are normally two buttons on the front or back (apart from the power button), pressing one of them allows you a few minutes to enter the required password on your iPad. Best look at the instructions for the router. -

After viewing & closing an image, can delete it, but not its containing folder.
I’m going through a bunch of old files to see what I can git rid of.
When I view and then close an image in Photoshop CS6 I can delete the image file, but not its containing folder, which stays locked, even after closing Photoshop. Restarting and closing Photoshop again usually enables me to delete the folder — but not always. Sometimes I have to close everything and log out and back in to be able to delete the folder. (BTW, Acrobat and Illustrator also share this problem.)
When you have, as I do, hundreds of files to go through, this becomes a real hassle.I suspect Photoshop, as a part of the file open operation, has set its current "default directory" to the folder in which you're working. You could prove that by opening a file in another folder and seeing if the prior folder is still unable to be deleted.
Are you using Bridge in any part of this process? Seems to be a better match for what you're doing.
If you'd rather not use Bridge, have you considered using Windows Explorer and a viewer application instead of Photoshop to look through these images? IrfanView or possibly even Windows Photo Viewer with a codec pack come to mind.

My Mac Mini will read some commercial DVDs but not others.
I have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I've had it for a couple of years now and just recently decided to run one of the video ports out to a wall mounted LCD TV for viewing both internet tv and DVDs. However, turns out my DVD player (SuperDrive, and rarely ever used ... maybe 10x since I bought the thing) won't read certain DVDs. For instance, it will mount and play Charlie Brown's Christmas, but not Pirates of the Caribbean. It appears to be a 'new dvd' vs 'old dvd' issue. Is that a real issue? Is there software I can install that would cause the drive to mount and play my newer DVDs? I'd appreciate any advice here. Thanks.
I have a new mac mini w/o superdrive but I can play all dvd's on the superdives in my MBP and my iMac. The MBP is new but the iMac is 2007 vintage. You may want to try cleaning the lens in the drive. Radio shack and others sell cleaning disks.

Delete songs from disk but not itunes
Alll mu music (150G) is in iTunes/iCloud, which is great for my iPhone 5. However, I have a classic iPod (120G) that won't sync unless the music is on my hard drive. So, I started downloading the music onto my hard drive but ran out of space... so I'm wondering how to delete the music from my hard drive but not iTunes so I can reclaim the hard disk space.
You can do what you say you want to do on the face of it, but it doesn't make sense. Yes, you could, if you wished, delete the media files in your iTunes folder that are associated with a particular entry in your library. You would then see a trimmed down version of the entry in the iTunes window and of course a message that the file could not be found ( a ! ). I'm not sure why you would want it this way in your case. The bottom line is, if you want to sync to your device the media files have to be on the computer. If there are files you do not wish to sync you can delete them. You can add them to iTunes again later but they will be put in as new entries so you will have to re-create playlists that contain those entries.
