MBP restarting itself lately
Hi,
My MacBook Pro (2011, 15”, 2 ghz/8 gb ram/10.10.2) has been restarting itself lately, 3x in the past 3 days. I though Safari might be causing it but today, it happened as Picassa was looking through a new folder I let it look at. That gave me a grey screen telling me there was a problem. The other restarts just went to a black screen and restarted. NONE brought up the Crash Reporter on restart. (I’ve found that to be flakey over the years…)
Where should I start in trying to remedy this. I did do an Apple Hardware test a few days ago, on the net, and it didn’t find any problems using the short exam.
I’d be happy to share a log but don’t know which one. I can zap the P-Ram if you think that’s a good idea. Maybe I need to reset the SMC?
Many thanks for any help.
Cheers,
John L
I'm not seeing how I can delete the rpcsvhost. I can keep quitting it but I have a feeling it won't come back. It's only appeared after each time I've replaced the RAM. Never seen it before that, though I did trash CleanMyMac a day or so ago and I've seen that it has been connected to that. (I didn't uninstall CMM. Maybe I'll need to do that...)
I haven't zapped the P-Ram. I'm hoping the recall will fix things. I've fixed permissions - the latest had lots needing fixing, one from an Apple update of an Epson printer! I've also verified the drive and it's ok. In January "the volume was found to be corrupt" and I repaired it. ("Incorrect number of files had links"(?) and "volume bitmap needs repairs" are all I can read of my bad handwriting in my notes...)
I've EtreCheck a few times and am wondering about a few kernel extensions but it didn't think anything was wrong. Some are from apps I've used for years with no problems and are all up to date. One was from an app I don't have anymore (ScreenFlow - the net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio.)
One highlighted in red for the first time just now:
Problem System Launch Daemons:
[failed] com.apple.msrpc.netlogon.plist
Here's the whole report. Thank you for all the help.

My ip5 auto restarting itself lately, how to stop this problem?
It cannot just change itself. If it has not been changed by someone using the phone, then the only other thing I can think of is that the phone is on a corporate Exchange account, and the passcode has been changed by the administrator. If that is not the answer then the phone will have to be restored.

MBP restarts itself on its own
I own a MBP 3.1, with 10.6.7 installed.
Now and then, especially when it's under load (switching to Safari while a movie is running), the MBP restarts the OS and goes back to the login screen. It doesn't reboot, but all unsaved data is lost. No sign of problems on the logs, doesn't even log the reset.
What do you think might be the problem?
Thanks in advance!Disconnect all peripherals from your computer and run Apple's Hardware Test - Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test

Ok so my MacBook Pro shuts itself down and restarts at least 4 times a day. Usually this happens when im away from my computer and its been idle or sleeping or whatever it does, however just 30 minutes ago this happened while i was using it and then it wouldnt restart it just kept showing the loading "apple" logo with loading bars comntinuously spinning... I had to shut it down manually and then it took an extra long time to load before finally loading to the user login page. Now generally... upon start up after this "panic" i will recieve a"Panic report" that says something aloong the lines of...

What the HECK is happening and whats causing this???? How do i fix it?That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
My MBP is restarting itself - HELP PLEASE!!!!!
I was having trouble with my MBP not turning on, so I called support and they told me to do that whole Hold down Apple, option, r, p, power thing. Well that was on Tues. Not only did that not fix the problem but then it caused a whole new one. Now my computer restarts itself. SO if you turn it on, it will restart 6 or 7 times before it even gets to the blue Mac OS X screen. Then it will just keep restarting by random. I have only had the computer 31 days, and I have contacted support like eight times. When I contact support to help with the restart they told me to take the battery off and hold power for 5 seconds. That has not fixed it, and if anything it is just worse. I called back, and they said to take out the RAM and reinstall. The thing is I just dont understand why that would fix it, and I bought the computer because I am a senior in College and I have my final project to edit, so I bought Final cut. I have everything for the project on here and if I loose it I will not be able to graduate. I guess I just dont get it, I payed $3000 for something I cant get to come on or stay on correctly. Please if there are any other options besides sending it in!!! Help me please!!! Feel free to e-mail me if needed [email protected] Thanks
I had the same problem. Took the macbook pro to the Genius Bar the first time and they said they couldn't replicate the problem. Brought it home, and it randomly restarted in an hour or so. Took it back to the Genius Bar and they replace the logic bord. Did absolutely no good, still kept restarted. Realized my time was too important to be wasted by a couple of "genius" chimps so got in touch with customer relations. They replaced it immediately and I have been happy ever after.

Why does my 2010 MBP keep restarting itself after upgrading to Yosemite?
This problem actually started once I upgraded to Mavericks - my MacBook Pro will randomly restart itself every 30 seconds - 15 minutes or so. I don't really have a good estimate of the occurrence though since it is so random and there seems to be no rhyme or reason. The only thing I can say is that it pretty much always restarts if I am resizing windows. When I upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks, it kept restarting itself but now it restarts twice every time! It's added an additional restart in the middle of the boot up screen. I reformatted the drive, reinstalled the original software and then reinstalled all the software upgrades and the problem persists. I know I should probably take it in to see a Genius as my best guess is that there seems to be an error with the graphics card, but I'm a college student on a very tight budget, so if there's anything I can do myself to fix this that would be great! Any help is appreciated! Here is the text from the last kernel panic:

I downloaded this app: https://gfx.io/ and set my graphics card to "integrated only" and it has solved the problem. Just remember to always set it to "integrated only" if it's not already set to that after anytime you restart your computer. -
My mid 2010 MacBook Pro keeps restarting itself
For some reason my 15' MBP will restart itself. The screen will go black and it will just reboot. It happens a couple times a day, and it gets very annoying.
Here are the problem details:

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Any help is appreciated!
ThanksThe panic was apparently caused by "Hamachi." I suggest you back up all data and then either update or remove the software according to the developer's instructions. Restart and see whether there's an improvement.

Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting Itself and then totally crashed
Dear all.
I am using Macbook Pro 13-inch (i7 2.9 Ghz, 8 GB DDR3, 750 GB) with OS X Maverick (10.9.4).
For the last few months, my Macbook Pro kept restarting itself and I usually ignored this issue until yesterday, my MBP fail to boot up, only display the grey apple logo and rolling icon below for almost 30 mins.
I tried the safe mode and reset NVRAM method and it still fail to boot up and sometimes a black text appears (aka kernel panic).
Then i took my macbook pro to the nearest Apple service provider and the technician said that it was probably due to the 750 GB Hard Disk since the HD itself is a faulty product, therefore we can't find any 750 GB HD nowadays. So he recommended me to replace my current HD with a new HD. I took his advice and I replaced it with 1 TB Toshiba HD. And then the technician reformat my MBP and installed the OS X Maverick. My Macbook pro able to boot up now.
However the next day I still find my MBP keeps restarting itself (until now) and take note that I didn't install any new softwares, I only updated the available updates in Apps Store for the OS, iBooks, and iTunes.
Can anyone recommend me what to do? Is this a Hardware problem or software problem?
I'm thinking to switch back to OS Lion to see whether this is mainly due to OS Maverick.
Thank you.Unfortunately yes. Since the computer is unable to boot up, that part of the software starts BEFORE the OS would. Last time I had this problem, it turned out to be a faulty GPU (soldered to the logic board) and i needed to replace the logic board. If you wanted to, you could indeed back up your personal data (you should ANYWAY, no matter what you do) and you could try to do a fresh install, but I'm fairly confident you are experiencing either faulty ram, or a faulty logic board.

IMAC unexpectedly restarts itself
I was updating an IPHONE 3G for my mother to use. During the update my IMAC began restarting itself constantly. I stopped the update on the IPHONE 3. Since then, my IMAC randomely restarts itself. I have tried turning it off, removing all cords, power, mouse, keyboard and then restarting after a minute or two. it seems to stop for a short period, but then begins again. HELP
BDAqua wrote:
Have you tried just sleeping it at night?
It appears to be graphic card related.
Have you blown the dust out lately?
Thanks very much for answering.
Sleeping the iMac at night would work, I'm sure, since it's only on a cold restart that the unplanned restart occurs. Not as satisfying as curing the issue, though.
Apple Hardware Test reported nothing wrong with the graphic card, but the computer is not cold by the time the test is run, so I guess that could still be it.
I'm sure there is dust inside after three + years. Apple didn't really want me to open up my iMac, but this Core 2 Duo model can be opened by lifting off the glass with suction cups, I believe. Maybe I will do that and dust, and see if that helps. There might even be something I can reseat.
Also, I believe that on my next cold startup I will try single user mode and see if that prevents the restart.
Thanks for your suggestions. -
MBP shuts itself down during sleep
My MBP shuts itself down durning sleep... or, stays black when I open the lid after sleep. The hard drive is on, but no key pressing will get it running. I have to hold down the power button, til it clicks off; then press it again to boot up from scratch.
Today, I booted up Console and under messages found this:
7/28/12 4:56:21.519 PM Firewall: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.254.1:64508 from 192.168.254.254:53
7/28/12 4:57:07.000 PM kernel: (default pager): [KERNEL]: ps_allocate_cluster - send HI_WAT_ALERT
7/28/12 4:57:07.000 PM kernel: macx_swapon SUCCESS
is this the signature of Trojan?
How do I correct this?I'm having almost the same problem and I can't figure it out either. I put my computer to sleep and when I wake it up, the screen comes on with my full desktop, but everything is frozen. I can't open anything. I can't even force quit. I get no response from my mouse (other than being able to move it around- sometimes) and everything on the dock is unresponsive. I did disc repair– no problems reported. I repaired disc permissions– a few glitches, but all taken care of and okay. I restarted the computer, put it to sleep and same thing all over. Should I worry?

My macbook pro (late 09) restart itself and refused start up.
this my first post ever - been using Mac all my life but a rookie when it comes to crash report. My Macbook Pro (late 09) running Mavericks (all apps and everything else, kept updated) to day restart itself and i wonder what caused. had to do the ritual of removing the battery, the RAM (8GB DDR) to get it start up again. what could possibly be wrong from this log - can anyone explain? appreciate it - thank you.

Macbook Restarts itself at completely random times. Obtained log
My brand new macbook automatticly restarts at completely random times. I took it to the apple store and they weren't able to get the macbook to restart itself by having it run at 100% capacity. After the last restart I went straight to console and copied everything that was in there at the time of the crash. Here it is below. Also to note, this has happend both while off, and on the charger. And also not while running any specific programs. I MAY have been running safari through all these. But it has also always been while I was at the computer. If I were to leave it on, every single time I come back the programs would still be running.
