MBP restarting on battery
Hi since a few days ago (Before it had occur sometimes, but since the last week is frequently)
when I'm on battery power and it has charge, the MBP shut down suddenly, and after that shutdown when I try to startup it starts but after or on the apple logo it shut downs again and so on many times until it restarts or I have to connect it to the power
thanks for your help

Your battery is failing, and you need to buy a new one. Normal lifespan of a 'typical' lithium-based battery like the one in your MBP is 400-500 cycles. Your battery has had a very long life (exceptionally long, in fact!), but now, it's time to buy a replacement.

OK, that eliminates a sticking power button, which would have been a possibility if you were using that button to bring up the Shut Down option.
Does this problem occur when you're running on battery power, on AC power, or both?
In System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter tab, do you have "Start up automatically after a power failure" checked? If you do, uncheck it, quit System Prefs, and see whether the problem persists. Post back with results.
Oh, and since you say this also happens when you select "Sleep" — does it happen when you close the display to put the machine to sleep, or only when you select the "Sleep" command from the Apple menu? -

- Penryn 2.5" 15" MBP bought in April 2008
- Initial battery would shut down unexpectedly and have the "check battery" status in the "Power oane"
- Genius exchanged old battery for new for free in March 2008
- Now, new (Sony) battery exhibiting same symptoms
Can I expect a Genius to give me again another battery? Should I rather not waste my time and buy a battery on my own? If so there are many brands on Amazon. Anyone more reliable than the Apple batteries?
Thanks
PhilGood morning.
I've got an early 2009 17" MBP with which i'm thrilled but in the last couple of days, the battery has begun to act strangely.
For no obvious reason I too get the *Check battery" message both in the menu bar and when I go into System Info. I've noticed the battery capacity which used to be at around 12000 mAh now hovers closer to 2000-3000, although the battery only has 145 cycles on it.
The most extreme case was this morning when I turned on my MBP. The battery read as 78% full which seemed right a I'd used it late last night. I then closed it and let it sleep for about half an hour. When I returned, the computer was turned off. I had to plug it back into the mains before it would start again. It then informed me the battery was at 0% and I once again got the "check battery" message.
I have trouble believing it could drain completely in half an hour.
Has anyone had a similar issue and if so, has anyone come across a fix?
All help appreciated.
Cheers. -
New iPhone 4 unlocked keep on restarting, and battery does not charge
I have boght new iphone 4 8g unlocked in US last week, to use it back at home(Azerbaijan) but, phone keep on restarting, and battery charges strage way. Each time it restarts with friggency of 5 mins, it shows different procetage of battery charge. Could you please advice what can i do ? And how to check what is the problem?
Reset, Hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts itself.
Clean iPhone Dock Port with a clean dry toothbrush.
Try different, new USB cable.
Try charging on Mac, PC USB or try different, new charger. -
MBP restarts itself on its own
I own a MBP 3.1, with 10.6.7 installed.
Now and then, especially when it's under load (switching to Safari while a movie is running), the MBP restarts the OS and goes back to the login screen. It doesn't reboot, but all unsaved data is lost. No sign of problems on the logs, doesn't even log the reset.
What do you think might be the problem?
Thanks in advance!Disconnect all peripherals from your computer and run Apple's Hardware Test - Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test

You will be happy to know that the problem you have is a known issue with Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro. It's caused by a damaged NVIDIA graphic card.
Apple has found that those computers have unexpected restarts, kernel panics, black screens when OS X switches graphic card. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US
Fortunately, Apple is repairing all of those computers for free, so make a backup of your data and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired"
I had mine replaced on the weekend. -
MBP 15" New battery or not?
my 19 months old MBP 15" (bought it in Feb '07) is unable to hold a charge for more than 25/30 mins at best. Admittedly I didn't calibrate the battery for several months of its life and it spends more time at home than out and about. Well it used to, now with a charge of 30 mins max I don't bother to take the MBP with me if I know I cannot plug it somewhere.
These are the reading in the system profiler:

I'm not really keen to shell out 100 quid for a replacement battery and wonder if the above reading are likely to worsen as time goes by.See this article:

It may apply to you even if you are out of warranty coverage. -
Hi,
I've had a new MBP Core 2 model for about 2 weeks now. In that time I've noticed a troublesome behavior whereby on random occassions simply closing the computer to put it to sleep causes it to RESTART when I open it back up.
This happened this morning.
I was doing a preview rendering in Cinema4D and left the house. I got to my next location, opened the computer and it was in the process of restarting.
I lost the data I was processing.
This has now happened a handful of times.
What's going on?
Thanks,
ChrisMine did this a few times after I got it in December. I reset the PMU a few times, and it hasn't done it for 3 weeks now of continuous use. It no longer restarts, on occasion after closing the lid, instead of sleeping.
I don't think it's something that can be fixed by sending it in for repair. It's more of a firmware issue at most.
Another problem is when it is supposed to sleep on its own when the battery is at 0%. Initially, it just shutdown instead if sleeping. After the PMU resets and with a new battery, it doesn't do that any more but on occasion, it can be woken up as the battery is at 0% and if I continue to use it it will shutdown. That's another firmware issue in my opinion. -
My MBP recently has the "Service Battery" notice, but disappears after I charged my laptop and hasn't returned yet. Also, my screen turns black once in awhile when I am watching videos, but cannot get it back lit so I have to restart it.
Do I really need to "service my battery?" And what do I have to do in regards to my scrren turning black?Service Battery means replace battery as soon as possible.
Occasional black screen problem may be related to the battery condition.
You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.
Power related issues can be resolved often by resetting SMC.
Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

"System must restart" on battery power
Hi all,
Recently I've noticed an issue that I just now was able to find some consistency to on my MBP. Whenever I'm on battery power, in under 5 minutes of unplugging, the screen will fade from top to bottom to a dark color and I get a message telling me I need to restart. The computer is less then 8 months old, so I doubt its a bad battery (During the USGP a couple weeks ago it was fine!). Any suggestions on what's happening? It will crash whether 10 or no applications are open.
On a related note, how do I see what the error report says? On every restart I get a message where I can Report or OK, I ALWAYS click Report but get nothing afterwards.
Thanks your help!Okay, here is the latest one. I'm unsure about what I'm looking at, so if someone could decode it for me I'd appreciate it.
