MBP restarts when I put it to sleep

This is driving me crazy. About 1/5th of the time I would say when I put the computer to sleep, close the screen, then reopen it again, the computer is actually restarting.
So instead of going to sleep, it restarts. Anything that was in memory is trashed, gone.
Sometimes I'll close the computer to put it to sleep, then without a matter of seconds I hear the restart sound.
Has anyone else had this unwanted restart problem?
Thanks,
Chris

It looks like there is a bluetooth issue, but I'm not sure what to do with it. We don't have any blue tooth devices in our house. From the console log:

  • 10.9.2 crashes and restarts when I put display to sleep using Hot Corners.

This started happening after applying this update. I have an iMac mid 2007.

This is probably the case as I am booting OS X from a USB drive until I can afford to be without my computer while having my internal drive replaced.

  • My computer shuts down when I put it to sleep

Ever since I used some of those auto-download upgrades my Mac shuts down when I put it to sleep. What's wrong?

Hi gazebo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • Why is my Mac Air still hot when I put then in sleeping mode?

Hi,I wonder why is my Mac Air still hot when I put then in sleeping mode?

I just looked in my history - can't find the link. I was googling for about 15 minutes out of curiousity before.. just researched more though. I think its an integrated circuit (the IC part) that is a combination of both analog and digital die sensor readings:
"Many embedded systems need to read sensors that produce analog signals. Since processors are built to interpret and process digital data, i.e. 1s and 0s, they are not able to do anything with the analog signals that may be sent to it by a device. So the analog to digital converter is used to convert the incoming data into a form that the processor can recognize."
    Analog Die - Analog : 125
    CPU Die - Digital Core : 129
    x19 controller IC: 264
    125 + 129 = 254....close....
Thank you for asking! You spurred further investigation
And your computer temperatures look absolutely fine. I wouldn't worry at all.

  • WHEN I PUT IT TO SLEEP--IT COMES BACK ON

WHEN I PUT IT TO "SLEEP"  IT "CLICKS" AND COME BACK ON

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message Req Wake
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: The name of your computer will appear in the output. If that information is private (for example, if the computer name contains your own name), edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • MacBook Pro freezes when I put it to sleep

I've had my mac for almost two months and this has happened several times. When I log out and put it to sleep and come back to it, the cursor is gone and I have to restart my computer. I see the log on screen but there is nothing I can do because its frozen. Another thing that just started to occur is that my screen turns black while I walk away and I also have to restart it.
This is really getting on my nerves because I have not even had my mac for 1 year! I NEED SOME HELP PLEASE!
    Thanks

Well, both of you could start with some basic repairs.....
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • Firewire drives won't spin down when I put iMac to sleep

I have three external hard drives connected to my iMac in a FW800 daisy chain. It used to be, when I put my iMac to sleep, all three of the external drives would spin down and go quiet. I replaced the drive in the middle of the chain with a new one (both LaCie), and now none of the three external drives spin down when my I sleep my iMac.
Does anyone know how to get them to spin down?

It's a known issue for many many brands of FW800 drives.  I've been reporting this to apple for a while.  With 10.9.2, my particular drives will spin down if they are mounted and unmounted but if my system wakes from sleep which will spin up all drives, they stay that way until I mount and unmount again.  So....10.9.2 is a little better but FW is still borked.
This is the primary reason my Mac Pro is still on Mountain LIon.  My MBA is on mavericks.  A note of caution...Mavericks writes to the NVRAM, sometimes when dual booting it is good to clear that memory.

  • How do I close the MBP case and NOT put it to sleep?

Is there a way to close the MBP case without it going to sleep? I like to allow items to download, etc while I close the case and leave the desk but it always goes to sleep.
Also, when it does go to sleep do I just push the power button? Sometimes this works, but it seems to respond slow.
    Thanks

Yes, I do believe that's what I implied.
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and enter the following command line at the prompt then press RETURN:
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
If the reported mode is 3 then your computer is set for "Save Sleep" which takes longer to wake up than standard sleep. If you want quicker wake up from sleep you can change the sleep mode by entering the following command line:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
This disables Safe Sleep but will also slightly decrease battery life as RAM is left powered on.

  • When I put iMac to sleep it disconnects with Airport Express

I have an Apple Imac 2.1 and a G4 laptop, and have no problems with either of them connecting to the internet, but my 2.93 Intel Core 2 Duo IMac is another story.
Whenever I put it to sleep I have to go through the full deal to reconnect it to the internet, so as, what is your password, which network would you like to connect to, etc.
How do I stop it doing this and behave like the other two, cause it's behavior is really pxxxxng me off. Could someone out there please help me to stop it doing this. thanking you

The AirPort Express does not "sleep", it's always "on"...so you have an iMac issue...not an AirPort Express issue. You may be better served by posting in the iMac Forum.
If you have not already done so, open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and open Network. Click on AirPort on the left and then click Advanced at the lower right. Make sure that your network name is at the top of the connection list so that your iMac will connect to that network first. Drag it to the top if needed.
Delete any old networks displayed that you no longer need by clicking them to highlight them and then clicking the - (minus) button at the bottom of the connection list.
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined". No other boxes should be checked.
    Click OK, then click Apply
Restart your iMac and see if that helps. If no luck, you should post in the iMac Forum for further help.

  • Why does my Power Mac G5 use 5 times as much power after entering Sleep mode automatically as when I put it to sleep manually?

My Power Mac G5 (4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5) with an Apple 17" CRT monitor, an HP LaserJet 1200 Printer and an HP4570c scanner draws approximately 200 Watts of electrical power after entering the "Sleep" mode automatically, but only 41 Watts of electrical power if I put it to sleep manually.
I have tried changing the Energy Saver preferences in every way that I can think of, with no effect.
    What am I doing wrong?

Hmm, 159 Watt diff, that's interesting, can't picture Hard Drives using that much, can you disconnect one devie at a time to test it's not them?

  • My computer is refusing to go to sleep, as it usually does automatically when left for a few minutes. Even when I put it to sleep manually, it pops on again. Wasting a lot of electricity. Help!

Again--my iMac desktop computer (10.8.6) is refusing to go to sleep, as it usually does automatically if left alone for a short time. Even when put to sleep manually, it pops on again by itself. Wasting a lot of electricity! Any suggestions?

    Hello:
Click on the icon in your menu bar.  The drop down menu should indicate if Time Machine is backing up correctly.  I would try the things I suggested before you spend money with AppleCare.  My expectation would be that they would tell you to do the same things.
If Time Machine is backing up properly, I would not be concerned about losing data.
Turning the computer off should not be a problem.  Actually, restarting sometimes "fixes" things.
No problem with me being patient.  I enjoy trying to help people.
