MBP Retina and Thunderbolt Display color correction
What are my options regarding color correction for a new 13" Retina MBP and Thunderbolt display using Spyder color calibration system, or equivalent? Really important I nail that down before purchasing.
Thanks!
Tom

I recently purchased MBP retina w/Thunderbolt Display
I recently purchased MBP retina with Thunderbolt display. Also purchased Apple Care for the MBP. Does the Apple Care cover the Thunderbolt display also? Or do I need to purchase additional Apple Care for the display? Back in 2006 when I bought previous MBP with Cinema Display, the Apple Care purchase covered both. Does this still apply or have the rules changed?
hawpotr,
you can find the current terms and conditions of an AppleCare Protection Plan in your region of the world here. -
I have recently purchased a Thunderbolt Display for my MBPr (early 2013) and was wondering what were the best settings for both to obtain an equal color and graphic appearance. I want to have them identical for working on graphics and illustrations.
ThanksI have the same laptop. There's nothing you really need to do to optimise the system. Perhaps just install the cuda drivers.
It runs premiere like a dream. -
MacBook Pro Retina and Thunderbolt display
Hi all,
I noticed a for me new strange behavior when running my new TBD on my new MBPR. Running Mountain Lion.
When the lid is closed, that is when the MBPR's screen is closed and I use the TBD as an external display it only works when I use the TBD's power supply or the Mag Safe dito, do i disconnect the power from the MBPR the screen geas black... ok , that is as described in the manual. But....
..in the same scernario with no external power to the MBPR... if I open the MBPR, that is pull up the MBPR's screen they both spring to life anf can be used again???
What's the logic about this?
Please tell me the relevance why this is possible?
Regards
/CekariWelcome to Apple Support Communities
Open System Information (in /Applications/Utilities) without the Thunderbolt Display plugged in, and choose Thunderbolt in the sidebar. What does System Information say? Then, try with the Thunderbolt Display plugged in, and tell me the results.
Also, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 And do a PRAM reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 -
MBP Retina and Second Display issues
I'm using a Macbook Pro with retina display and having a hard time really understanding how it translates to a normal 72dpi screen, so I hooked up a second computer, this is what photoshop looks like on it...
Suggestions?Disable GPU drawing in Photoshop's preferences, and let Apple know about their video driver problems.

When I disconnect my MBP from my Thunderbolt display and reconnect, arrangement resets.
I have a MBP Retina and a 27" Thunderbolt display. When I disconnect from the Thunderbolt display and then reconnect, my arrangement is reset and I have to set it again. This has been happening for the last day.
I am on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite and I just updated the Thunderbolt firmware yesterday.Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, there seems to be a bug in iOS 8 or iTunes 12.1.1 that cause this problem and I have not seen a solution -
Citrix receiver on MBP and thunderbolt display get stalled due to screen resolution
Running citrix apps on MBP together with Thunderbolt display. Citrix app will launch but will not operate as is gets resolution error message. Also after upgrading to Mavericks launching the Citrix app only work 1 out of 3 time (not sure at all of the reason it is not always not working).
I have the latest Citrix receiver version 11.8.2 - Java 7-45 also up to date.
Anyone seen similar issue and got it resolved ?I am having a similar issue where I can log in to our server but once citrix viewer opens i get a black screen and thats it. No resolution errors though. Before the Mavericks update all worked just fine.
I have a MBP, citrix receiver 11.8.2 and java updated as well. -
Macbook pro 17 inch primo 2011 and thunderbolt display crashes
I have a Macbook pro 17 inch primo 2011 and thunderbolt display which has recently started to crash.
Only modifications I have doen lately is I swapped the CD/DVD drive for a harddrive and put in 16 GB of ram
but it has been running for more than a month with these hardware additions without problems.
Today my Macbook has started to crash frequently within 10 min to 1 hour after plugging in my thunderbolt display.
I tried to check CPU heat, change RAM but it keps crashing.
When it crashes it either gives me a blue screen, a black screen or a distorts everythings and freeze up.
When rebooting I have to press Command-Option-P-R to clear NVRAM / PRAM.
I found a few support threads from people having similar problems so I started to disconnect the thunderbolt display
and without plugging it in my laptop works fine.
I have done a SMC reset also but that has not resolved my issue.
Below is the crash report and if anybody has any suggestions what to do to resolve this please let me know
My thunderbolt display was purchased in late 2011
If this is not solveable what options do I have ?
Thanks !

FireWire Device: My Book 111D, WD, 800mbit_speedThe other day I got the blue screen, the fan going on high, and then when I disconnect my thunderbolt connection from my macbook pro - i get a shutdown.
Today I got flickering followed by the fan on high and then again I disconneced my thunderbolt cable and after a minute or two a shudown.
This never happened before. Actually I was suprised to hear about a firmware update for flickering since that's never happened to me but since updating I now get the flicker.
Any ideas?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my work labtop. -
MBPr Windows and Thunderbolt Display
Hi there,
I am trying to have my MBPr and Thunderbolt Display working under bootcamp with Windows 8. All the peripherals attached to the TBD are working fine but the display remains black/off. I am pretty sure that a solution exists but can't find the right. I've tried and under Windows 7 behavior still the same, whereas under MacOSx TBD display works fine.
Thanks for you support !
RVI made the usb stick back when I installed windows 7 that made my imacs amd gpu see the monitor connected as it did in osx and in the same was as any other windows computer with a connected extra screen
(so I turn it on in windows display settings and maybe the amd catalyst software i forget)
when I upgraded to win8 it just used the win7 driver and it still worked fine
same when I later got te official win8 drivers from apple -
I have a MBP retina and I am having problem when my bluetooth and wifi are both active. My wifi is totally unusable when I am connected to via bluetooth speaker.
Chances are you mis-typed a character in the Wifi password and the devices saved that information. Now whenever you try to connect the device refers to the wrong password and the Jetpack does not accept your connection. Tell your devices to forget the wireless connection and start over.
Once you enter the proper WiFi credentials the Jetpack will allow you to connect. -
I have a MBP Retina LCD (resolution 2880x1800) and in the office I use it with a Monitor Sony LMD-2450W connected by VGA. After installing 10.9.2 the resolution in the monitor has been downsized to 4:3 (and 1280x960) instead of its 16:9 display. Anyone know how can I change the resolution manually?
Display shows only 3 different resolution if I choose "scaled" but none use the full area of the monitor.
Thank you
MarcoThis has been an ongoing problem with external monitors that predates 10.9.2. I wrote various tips on different methods here, though the best is probably the hot corner one:

MacBook Pro (late 13), Pegasus2 R6 and Thunderbolt Display
Hello, first time poster.
Finally back to mys first Mac since the Mac II.
Is anyone having problems with their Pegasus2 in the following connection Configuration: MBP---->TD--->Pegasus2?
On restart, pegasus2 will hang (steady orange light on power button) as will the boot of the late 2013 Macbook Pro 15 retina. Eventually login is available, however the pegasus2 is still hung (steady orange light on power button). Starting from all devices powered down, everything boots normally. Additionally, there are no porblems when the pegasus2 is connected directly to the MP.
Have been working with Promise support, where tier one says there have been reported problems daisy chaining with incompatible Thunderbolt displays. They are sending the issue up the chain.Day 3, still working normally. I am a little miffed that I was told that I had an 'incompatible thunderbolt monitor' by Promise support and never heard back from the higher level support . I do realize that they can't support every third party issue (eg. my power supply). But, why tell me the problem is the TBD (there is no listing for types of TBDs on their compatibility charts)?
As an aside, the performance is great. -
Macbook Pro and Thunderbolt display day to day work question
I have a late 2013 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro and recently bought a Thunderbolt display.
When I'm in my office I use it on the display don't have the display anytime I'm not in the office.
Given the larger pixel dimension on the display, when I'm in the office and use the display, I'm having to re-size windows constantly to make maximum use of the real estate.
Are there any settings on the Macbook Pro and/or the Thunderbolt Display where without having to adjust I can have windows maximize the available real estate? Thanks.I kind of figured this out. The reason I wasn't satisfied was that without the power adaptor when you hit a button on the keyboard the monitor actually wakes up the computer, works fine for a few seconds and then puts the computer to sleep. That kind of proves that it does work, technically at least. The problem is going into sleep mode afterwards.
Anyway i guess it just doesnt work. Thanks.
ps. If there is a way of discharging the battery with software while the power adaptor was still on, would be great help. -
So this is a crazy one... I've read through all the articles with everyone's issues with the new MBPr Haswell and Bootcamp. This one is unique I believe. I started off with a perfectly functioning Windows 8 Pro copy installed on a Lacie Thunderbolt External SSD (I extracted the install.wim file to a separately partitioned EFI boot as described here: http://bleeptobleep.blogspot.com/2013/02/mac-install-windows-7-or-8-on-external. html) and it worked flawlessly. I could boot through Mac OSX with it either directly connected to my MBPr or daisy-chained through my TBD (Thunderbolt Display).
I thought all was well and updated to 8.1 through the in-store free upgrade. It worked on startup, but after my second time booting it up I noticed that the Retina Display (dual-monitor setup) was very dim. I went to adjust the brightness and *blip* - it just turned off while the Thunderbolt Display continued working. I rebooted several times after messing with drivers, reinstalling (or running the fix) the bootcamp software to no avail. Now Win 8.1 runs perfectly on my Thunderbolt display only with my Macbook Retina next to it, open with a blacked out screen! BUT I'm really bummed that I don't have a dual-display set up and Windows isn't recognizing the actual laptop's display! What?!
I know someone out there much more knowledgeable than me knows the answer! I've tried settings, drivers, etc.! Could it be that I've installed it to a Thunderbolt External? Like I said, it worked as Win 8 Pro flawlessly! I'd rather not use precious internal SSD space if possible! Help!Ok so I was exhausted and just missed something really simple. In the Power Settings under the "advanced" tab, there was a setting that read: "Dim display when connected to a) battery 0% and b) plug 0%". They were obviously both at zero, why the Thunderbolt display was still lit up, I don't know. I reconfigured the display settings to be extended to 2 displays and it works perfectly!
For anyone that wants Windows 8.1 to boot from an external disk, I suggest the above tutorial (only use a Thunderbolt external, as the read/write speeds of anything else are horrible). It worked soo so well, unfortunately the only thing that doesn't work well is my brain, and b/c of that I missed a very simple setting, haha.
The only tweaks I made in the process was to install Windows 8 Pro first, then run Boot Camp, then install Windows 8.1 through the Windows Store as an update. All Bluetooth, display, (all peripheral) settings work just as if I was on a Windows machine. Flawless. Thanks to anyone who saw this and tried to help! -
Vudu HDX and Thunderbolt Display
Vudu HDX content will display on Macbook Pro Retina display, but it will not display on mirror to Thunderbolt Display due to HDCP issue. Are there any solutions to this?
