MBP Retina Late 2013 - Kernel Panic Crash
Hi guys, I was just wondering if any of you might have an insight into the Kernel panic that my new MBP just suffered from. I just booted up my computer after it was turned off all night, and it immediately crashed after logging in.
Here's the detailed report:

JohannesK2,
have you tried running your MacBook Pro’s Apple Diagnostics, to see if it can detect a problem with its RAM?

I bought a Behringer Xenyx302 USB preamp to connect a microphone to my mbp. The device is not recognized by MacOS. Preferences / Sound / Input only lists the internal microphone. Based on other posts and documentation, I should see and entry for "USB microphone" or something like that.
The preamp has a headset jack. I can hear the microphone working through that, so I know the mic works.
Behringer doc says that no drivers or software are required for MacOS. 15" mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite
Any suggestions?Yes I have checked Parallels config along with Parallels support. Also on the mac side it also does not see or recognize USB 2 devices
any other thing to try?

Diagnostics MBP retina late 2013
i want to diagnostics the hardware of my mbp retina late 2013 but while i pressing D during boot up it launch the internet recovery instead so why is it like that? and how to diagnostic for hardware problems?
Hello, did you clean wipe the drive at all? This simply means that the diagnostic tool was not found locally and the machine is booting up internet diagnostics (equivalent to option + D ) at boot. Once the spinning globe finishes, you should be able to access the diagnostic test.
You should have an Internet connection before starting Apple Diagnostics. This will enable Apple Diagnostics to recommend support resources. Additionally, if Apple Diagnostics is not found on the internal startup volume, an Internet-based version starts up instead. You can still run Apple Diagnostics without an Internet connection, but no results will be uploaded to Apple and no connection to Apple Support web pages will occur.

New MBP retina late 2013 initial 29GB already used
Hello,
I just got my MBP retina late 2013, my first try of Mac from using PC for years. Out of the box I just did an upgrade, then checked the disk usage and already has around 28-29GB filled?
From the DiskUtility it is classified as "Others". I suspect this is the entire OSX Mavericks plus the standard apps? Is it normal? is it really this big?
I got a 500GB SSD so should not be an issue, but I still cannot sleep over it without knowing for sure if the 29GB usage is normal for a newly bought MBP.
Would appreciate your feedbacks.
Thanks!Quite normal - everything in "Other" includes the OS, any user documents, etc. -> anything that doesn't neatly fit into the "Photos," Movies," etc. categories.
For info on the Storage tab, see -> The Storage Display.
Hope that you enjoy your new Mac!!

MBP Retina Late 2013 backlight bleeding
Hello,
after two weeks i purchased brand new macbook pro 13 retina late 2013.
Everything seems fine, but today I noticed a problem with the screen.
When the brightness is at 100% and the screen is black in the lower left corner there is a greenish color.
I guess this is the backlight bleeding.
Attach a picture of problem.
I guess this is a manufacturing defect and should consult with service?
10x in advance!Hello everyone, I have been trying all solutions to this problem with no success. Finally I tried downloading the driver from NVIDIA, this required me to allow NVIDIA to scan my system to find my proper driver. After finding and installing the new driver I had full control over brightness. I've been using my MBP for about a day and a half with no problems for the brightness. I hope this helps everyone.

for months now I am suffering from the following problem:
WLAN connections dropping

This happens with all sorts of with WLAN stations:
public hotspots
Airport Extreme
UniFi systems
mobile personal hotspots
Aerohive
etc.
So I doubt it is a configuration problem on the WLAN. Moreover I cannot reproduce this in the same environments with other Apple products (Macbook Air, iPhone). It happens with 10.9 and 10.10. Is there any idea what might be causing this? I have no USB3 attached. Yes bluetooth is on and I still have to figure out if it only happens in the 2.4Ghz band. However even if it is 2.4Ghz related again: Other systems operating on 2.4Ghz nearby do not have these problems. Moreover 802.11ac is working however even sitting 3m away from a suitable AC access point with direct line of sight does not guarantee me to get a AC connection. Somehow I suspect this to be a driver or even hardware problem.
Kind regards,

GPT partition inhibiting windows 8.1 install on MBP retina late 2013
Hi there, looking for some help!
Trying to install win 8.1 on my MPB retina late 2013 using bootcamp.
Bootcamp makes the partition but then the windows installer does not automatically start (Bootcamp help says it should.. Original full windows disk is in superdrive).
Restarting pressing "option/alt" gives me the choice to start "windows".
This starts the windwows installer.
Seems fine untill I need to select a disk to install windows onto.
Choosing "Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP" Does not work.
it says "windows cannot be installed on drive 0 partition 4"
Same after pressing "Format"
Details show:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style"
I saw a solution to a problem like this:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/23545484#23545484
But I expect that this would not be nessecary anaymore.
Windows 8.1 is supposed te be supported by Bootcamp nowadays.
My Bootcamp is:
Boot Camp Assistant 5.1.1, Copyright © 2013 Apple Inc. All rights reserved
Software update says no updates are available for my machine.
Anyone?delete partition bootcamp created in windows installer
and let windows installer create new one (it will create 4)
after that, IF installer won't to able to write on partition created, reset pram http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 start installer again by booting with ALT + Option
it will be able to write to the partition it created -
Fonts pixelated on 15" MBP Retina (late 2013 model)
I recently purchases a 15" MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013 model). I've notice that the font in some programs look pixelated. Is this a known issue? Under System Preferences, I've already attempted to change the resolution from "Best for display" to "Scaled." Any suggestions to ensure that I see the best on screen (since I paid extra for the Retina feature!)
Thanks!Howdy jimkol,
The video resolutions supported by your MacBook Pro are described here -
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications
Specifically -
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

IMac 2013 Kernel Panics Crash Logs
Hey,
I have a 2013 27" iMac pretty much maxed out (512GB SSD instead of the 1TB).
After purchasing the machine I installed some Kingston HyperX pnp RAM (32GB) and started getting Kernel panics. I had a chat with the Apple Support folk who advised me it may be the RAM so I took it out, tested the Apple 8GB that came with it and it worked fine for a day. I put the Kingston back in, more kernel panics.
I then returned the RAM and bought 32GB Crucial RAM which I installed today around 10 hours ago. All was fine until I just had another Kernel Panic.
I have noticed I have a kernel_task in activity monitor using 100 threads and 1.26GB of RAM - is that normal?
I will post all the Crash reports I have had (the last one being with the new RAM):

This slots meets the criteria for this imac, and have been fully working during 8 months in the previous late 2012 imac (model 13,2), but now the new imac crashes randomly every few hours.
If the RAM I have been using in the previos model is fully compatible with the new one, why does the crucial website have an other model of RAM (CT4951621) that says "Guaranteed-compatible with the Apple iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)"? The specifications are the same on both.
I've been reading many people with the same RAM problem with the late 2013 imac. I don't know if is the problem is in the imac or in the RAM modules...
Can anyone tell me if there is something wrong in these logs? Related with the RAM or with anything else... Thanks so much!

Macbook Pro 15'' Late 2013 Kernel Panics
I am now on my third machine (model 11,3) in two weeks. I did a clean installation of OS X to rule out a bad OS X image. Hardware diagnostics at home and in store passed on all three. No third party drivers or software associated with the panics. The panic can usually be reproduced by toggling Airplay mirroring to my Apple TV when playing an mp4 video via quicktime/iTunes fullscreen.
I submitted a RADAR report- they have accepted the ticket and are waiting for me to perform a kernel core dump to follow-up (I can't get the server side machine to cooperate though!) I have been responding to multiple threads regarding this model and this issue >>> ( Kernel Panics in brand new Retina MBP running Mavericks). Over all three machines, I noticed the following trends:
1) The panic is almost always related to sending/receiving large amts. data over a network - whether streaming via Airplay, or importing a high resolution scan from my wireless printer. In the former case, it is reproducable.
2) The backtrace is almost always related to the IOAcceleratorFamily2 bundle of drivers
3) The corresponding thread is inconsistent
4) The panic type is usually type 13 general protection, but sometimes type 14 page fault (indicating the system is trying to access an invalid memory address). Never any other type.
5) Never any screen artifacts. Always a hard panic and system shutdown.
If anyone else has this issue, please respond and share your experience. If anyone has suggestions, or further insight, it would be greatly appreciated. What could possibly being causing this given the details outlined above? A bug in OSX itself seems to be the only plausible answer...
Help with setting up the server side machine for the kernel core dump would be great (I have read the tech note and followed those instructions)-if this is too broad, I will make a different question out of it because I want the focus to be on the panics themselves.
Thank you in advance!
Here is the latest of my panics:

Formatted MBP retina (late 2013) HD
I have mistakenly formatted my hard drive on my MBP retina and I am not sure what to do now. When I turn my laptop on I get a blinking questino mark, I can't use internet recovery because I live in Iraq and apparently I can not access that.
Tried booting from a USB with Marvicks on it that I downloaded from the app store in my other laptop (MBP 2011) but it didn't work.
Any thougts? The DiskMakerX way will not work either(I know, I have tried it ), because it is a special Mavericks build the late 2013 rMBP is using, this is because the new retinas were released after the release of Mavericks. Apple really should merge the different builds of Mavericks into one universal build in 10.9.2 to stop all the confusion.
You have two options to Install 10.9. Unfortunately to my knowledge both methods need internet access, because you need to get the install file for late 2013 rMBP from Apple's server:
Create bootable USB via recovery to get the right install file for late 2013 rMPB https://discussions.apple.com/message/24277314#24277314
Boot into recovery mode with cmd+r and Install Mavericks http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14243
Can I ask are Apple servers blocked in Iraq? What happens when when you try to hold cmd+r to get into recovery mode? I think this is why internet only recovery is flawed. There are many people living & working(temporarily)
without internet connection, with slow connection or there maybe other reasons not to be able to use the internet recovery. -
Screen color shifted on an area ... MBP Retina Late 2013
Hi everybody!
My parent bought me a Macbook Pro Retina 13" in december 2013 and all was happiness for this time passed.. but yesterday I woke up, grabbed my laptop and opened the lid to discover what you see in the picture... I really dont know how that happened, I always manage my computer carefully and this is so annoying.
I can still using it of course, but I have this question... if I payed for the Apple Care Extended Warranty, how many wil it costs to me to get it repaired? I think is not a software problem because if I move the lid back and front, the problem changes (the colors shift a little bit from normal to "negative").
Hope someone can help mejoshcali wrote:
actually.... it doesn't.
the 1920 is simulated, and apple doesn't recommend it.
Apple doesn't offer the option of full resolution (2880x1800) and says everything other than 1440 x 900 won't look as good as 1440x900.
so while you can set the monitor to 17" resolution (1920x1080) it has to simulate it on a 2880x900 screen and has to blur and reinterpolate elements to make it work
they've really messed it up for anyone wanting true HD resolution for professional reasons.
Indeed. Everything except 2880x1800, which is unavailable without SwitchResX, and 1440x900, which comfortably fits one pixel of the image into a four pixel square of the Retina Display, must be simulated or scaled. However, while the scaling is real, the 17" "simulation" looks as good, to my eye at least, as my wife's MBP 17". Going smaller will test one's eyes probably as much as Apple's scaling algorithms so the tradeoff for greater screen real-estate may turn out not to be as bad as we'd think. All I need is a MBP Retina Display and SwitchResX to find out... -
Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive on newest MBP retina (late 2013)
So I literally ordered the late 2013 model the day it was released (October 23nd) because I had been waiting for it forever. I got it October 25th. That SAME DAY I used it, it started having problems. While I could be scrolling on tumblr or Facebook, the keyboard and trackpad would randomly just stop responding. It wouldn't move at ALL but the computer still works fine. One time I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean and the keyboard and trackpad froze just the same without me touching anything. I had to hold the power button down for 10 secs (the only button that worked) to shut off the computer which also LOST everything I had open. This has been happening EVERY SINGLE DAY since I used it except one. I called apple support and they couldn't figure out what's wrong either because it can't be anything I installed since I've only had it for a day when it first happened and all I had was google chrome installed.
The tech guy from Apple support told me to do the force quit shortcut on the keyboard if it happened again (which it did, as always) and it obviously didn't work because the keyboard was just not responding to begin with.
This kind of stuff started happening the FIRST day I got my computer four days ago, and it's been happening almost every single day; I don't think the problem is any programs I installed. I'm thinking I got a faulty computer, which would be very unfortunate because final exams are coming up and it would be very inconvenient for me to send it back and wait for another one. I also just put decals on it and that would go to waste as well.....
I waitressed every single night of the week for a month (and counting) in order to buy this for school and I was quite excited to have gotten it...but already problems are coming up with the computer that I spent so much money on.....this is really disappointing. What should I do? The apple support people aren't fixing the problem and there's no apple store near me and it would suck to have to send it back to wait for another because I have exams right now....and also the money I spent on the decal.Model Name: MacBook Pro

How to charge MBP retina late 2013 in a right way
Hi, I just got my first MBP retina yesterday. I have read some discussion about charging the battery. some one said that we should fully charge after unboxing and then use the MB until it goes to sleep, leave it for 5 hours and fully charge again. other one said we should not drain the battery.
One more question, should I calibrate the battery once a month for macbook pro retine?
Thank you.DON'T let the battery discharge completely and DON'T try to 'calibrate' the battery in your new machine.
Treat you battery nicely and you'll extend the battery life.
Your battery should have some charge from the factory. Let it run down to about 30% and then plug it into mains. Thereafter, make sure that you don't let your battery run below 10%. If you use your machine plugged into mains most of the time, let the battery run down to 30% or so every couple of weeks and then plug it back up.
Good luck,

Issue at start (MBP Retina late 2013)
Hi everyone, I have some little issues with my MBP: after the start it takes about 18 seconds to show the files in the folder. No coloured wheel, I just have to wait. Is this normal? Sorry for my bad english and thanks!
LucaLuca,
If you're talking about when you first turn the machine on, it has to load up the operating system. 18 seconds is actually pretty fast. Sounds like your Mac is fine.
