MBP Retina screen flashes blue on login from sleep

When I login after leaving my computer alone for an hour or so, asleep for over 30 minutes, I get a repeated flash between my background screen and a blue screen, 3 or 4 times before I get to the actual desktop screen of my computer. This happened in Lion and still happens in Mountain Lion.
If I put the computer to sleep and wake it immediately I do not go through the flash cycle, I get right to my desktop.
Any thoughts or ideas before I make a Genius appointment and get this replaced? My concern is this is a bad chip/soldering job.
Erci

i had the same problem too and i think i could isolate its cause. I tried a few things on my 13 inch retina macbook pro like switching off functions like ''put hard disk to sleep when possible'' but this wasnt a solution to the problem... after alot of playing around with my macbook, i realised that this flashing problem only occured when my macbook was scaled up to any resolution other than the native resolution... when i went back to the native resolution, the flashing stopped and my macbook started almost instantaneously after opening the screen... you should try it out... and tell me what you think...
think it is pretty annoying that we get this issue when scaled up to some other resolution and wish there is a solution somewhere online to solve this... but for now, i think it is quite an annoying bug but still not something i cant live with...
tell me what think about it:)

  • Screen flashes when waking up from sleep, Macbook Pro Retina 13" early 2013

    Hey guys,
I have an issue with the wake up procedure on my new Macbook Pro Retina 13". This is how it looks: http://youtu.be/pBK8vRiVdX4
When my computer has been in sleep mode for a longer time (approximately 1-3 hours) it does this strange thing when I open the lid. It is black for a time and suddenly there is a blue flashing screen before it goes to the desktop. This process is about 10 seconds.
Does anyone know if there is a solution for this? Have you had the same problem? I called Apple support this morning and he told me to reset SMC and clear the PRAM, but the issue is still there.
Please let me know if you know something about this.
    Kindly,
    Mikael

  • Mbp retina processor choking (?) after wake from sleep

    Hi all,
I recently bought a Macbook Pro Retina Display 15" (Haswell). Some time ago I started noticing that, after waking up the computer for a couple of times, the image and sound would briefly 'freeze' once every second. Strangest thing is that whenever I play back a system soundfile (like f.i. the submarine notification sound) while (let's say) youtube is playing a video, the freezing would go away only to return when I stop playing the notification sound.
Anybody got any idea of what's going on here? Hardware or software failure? Anyone encountered a similar problem?
Here you can see a little video I recorded when my rMBP starts tripping
    Cheers
    I

happened again just now. opened activity monitor and saw coreaudiod peaking at 54%. changed the driver to soundflower and video stopped lagging ... back to internal input and video started lagging again. I then plugged in my headphones and the freezing stopped immediately.
so been looking at this thread on coreaudiod and followed the instructions. let's hope my problem is solved

  • My macbook pro no longer connects to my tv through HDMI my computer screen flashes blue but my tv does nothing! could someone please help!!

HI i was just wondering if anyone could help me!!
i have a macbook pro and i have connected it many times to my toshiba tv through my HDMI cable, and for some reason now when i plug it into my laptop the screen flashes blue on my laptop but nothing happens to the tv it just says no signal and i dont know what to do!!
if anyone could help that would be fab!!
    pretty pretty please!!

    Hello ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot having no display on the external display.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Macmini 2011 on lion, goes to a blue screen om monitor when awakening from sleep mode, last 3 or 4 seconds, can anyone help? Thanks

Macmini 2011 on lion, goes to a blue screen on monitor when awakening from sleep mode, last 3 or 4 seconds, before desktop appears, can anyone help? Thanks

Depending on the system configuration, this may not
be unusual.  The Mini that I use for my home theater,
which is connected to a receiver then to a TV, all via
HDMI usually takes a couple seconds to come up just
the way yours does.  Same happens when I switch sources
on the receiver.  Actually, it starts with the blue screen and
will sometimes flash before the desktop comes up.
It seems that when HDMI goes dormant, there is handshaking
that needs to be re-established, at least thats my SWAG on it.
On the other hand, the Mac Mini Server that I use as a work
station and is connected to a Thunderbolt Display, wakes to desktop
in a second, maybe two.  On this combo, it just comes up to
    the desk top.
It also probably depends on what processes were active when
the Mini was put to sleep.  So it may take some time for it to get around
    to reloading the desktop.

  • Screen appears dimmer after waking from sleep

    Hi
Recently, I've noticed the brightness of the 24" screen is dimmer after waking from sleep, regardless of the brightness setting in the Display preferences. If I restart the computer, the regular brightness returns. Curious if anyone else is seeing this happen on their Aluminum iMac?

This is normal. As already stated, after waking from Sleep, your screen gradually intensifies brightness until it reaches its full brightness setting. Sort of how GE Soft White Bulbs take a couple of minutes to warm up to achieve their final Lumens.
The reason it's instantly Bright upon Restart is that the machine goes through an initialization upon bootup where it performs a complete system check and ensures all settings are initialized and set according to your preferences. When Sleep is enabled (something I RARELY ever do) the machine lowers all operational parameters and upon waking, it slowly gets back up to speed.
Just like how putting drives to sleep causes severe lag once woken up before you can perform all functions at full speed.
Activating your screen saver is the best option.

  • OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep.

Since upgrade to OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep. Tablet lights are on in morning and fans running like crazy, but it requires hard quit and start. Tried with no apps running, no change. It was fine before this last update. Wasn't the recent firmware update supposed to fix this issue? It seems to have started one for me.

I have the exact same problem with my Macbook Pro OS 10.8.4. What happens is: I work on the train, press cmd/alt + eject to put to sleep..pop it in my bag...get home or office... open the lid...and nothing! Battery indicator shows I have plenty of juice but it will not wake up no matter what key I press.
The only difference between use on the train and home/office is the plugging in of peripherals and mains power. It happens sparadicially, perhaps once or twice a week and I always send a 'panic report', so somewhere there will be approx 20 reports of this fault at Apple.

  • Boots to windows startup screen, flashes blue screen, restarts and repeats

    HP ENVY H8-1414 Product #H3Z00AAR
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Alright, so here is my issue. I turn on my pc and it gets as far as the windows startup screen, flashes a blue screen error for about half of a second and then restarts it self. My HDD is recognized in the bios. Tried a memory test in diagnostics and it passes.  Tried a hard disc check and it passes the SMART check but fails the Long DST with a failure ID of 0GF21L-0006LR-WPVX0K-61C703 (no idea if those a zeros or O's)
I've also tried the startup repair but it did nothing. So I removed the hard drive and tried to use it in a different PC but had the same issue so I figured the hard drive went bad. Then I tried formatting a spare hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 on it, tried it on a different PC and it works just fine. However, when I try to use that hard drive on the HP ENVY I get the exact same problem even though it worked just fine on a differenct pc.
I purchased this PC refurbished about 3 months ago, the warrenty just ended a week ago.  There have been no hardware or software changes on it at all. This thing worked flawlessly last night... I locked the computer before bad and I woke up to this. No power outages over night or anything. It just doesn't make any sense.

Here are the specs for your HP ENVY h8-1414 Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model came from the factory with Windows 8 installed. The "blue screen" and restart are normal for Windows 7, when it encounters an error, unless you have altered the default settings.
The LONG DST failure is indicative that the hard drive has failed or is about to fail. Unless the hard drive is moved to an identical or very similar computer, Windows will encounter a "blue screen. This is true with the original hard drive moving from the h8 computer to the other computer and the test hard drive from the other other computer moving to the h8 computer.
Try placing the "test" hard drive in the h8 computer and installing Windows 7 from a DVD or USB stick. If you have any problems, please post back with full error messages and screen shots. Also indicate what stage of the install Windows 7 was doing tat the time.
    Please send KUDOs

  • External monitor makes both screens flash blue

Hi, I have a 2008 aluminum macbook, and I've been using it with an external monitor hooked up through a minidisplay port to DVI adapter. It's worked great until just the last few days. Now whenever I have the external monitor plugged in both screens will randomly flash blue (like when hooking in the monitor) every 10 seconds or so. I tried changing the refresh rate to 60 instead of 75, and that seemed to help for a little while, but now it just seems to be getting worse and worse. Any ideas?

This may help some of you. My screen appeared to "move" whenever I moved the mouse and jitter when I placed it in some parts of the Dock. To fix my problem I went into Universal Access in System Preferences and turned Zoom off. Sometimes I use the White on Black setting to make text easier to read and the keyboard short cut for that is almost identical to the Zoom one which will create some really goofy effects on the screen.

  • MBP retina screen flicker black?

Hello, after doing so much research and feels like getting no answer I decided to post on this forum, I hope I will get any answer
so I own a new MBP retina 15", it just came last week and I just start really using it yesterday. When I was working with photoshop i notice sometimes random black flicker will just flashes out in a milisecond. It doesnt happen only once but numerous times, a restart doesn't fix it.
Sadly I can't provide any screenshot here because it just randomly happen & gone so fast.
Anyone knows why and how to fix it? I'm pretty sad to find this problem in a really newly bought product

thank you for the reply, CT.
my flickering is not as bad as the one on the video, but still it annoys me because it's something like black long bar flashing.
so.. looks like this issue is going to be (maybe) fixed by bringing it to the store....?

  • Screen flashing blue

My partner's macbook will start up for a few seconds and then flash blue and is beyond use at this point. We don't have apple care and we've had it for a little over a year. What is the problem with the screen and will it cost anything to get it repaired? Also is there anyway we can just fix this ourselves?

Hi duckwheesper and welcome to Apple Discussions!
The first thing we need to do is to find out for certain if this is a hardware or a software issue. Start up the MacBook holding down the Option key. Does the blue screen issue occur? If it does not, very likely your problem is with software and reinstalling the OS or erasing and then reinstalling the OS will fix it.
If that doesn't do it, let's try [resetting the SMC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964] of your MacBook. [Resetting the parameter RAM|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html] may also help.
If all of those fail and you are still having the same issue, it's a hardware problem. Contact Apple for a repair, either by calling them at (800) 275-2273 or carrying the MacBook in to an Apple retail store. Be sure you [make an appointment|http://www.apple.com/retail] first or you may spend a long time waiting to talk to a Mac Genius.
    Best of luck.

  • Flashing screen when awakening my mac from sleep

Help: What can I do to fix my screen issue-- It flashes for the first 20 seconds each time when I awaken my mac from sleep mode: Thanks!
    (mac pro 2007 intel based)

Thanks, Linc.  I was worried that since this was a refurbished computer, it was dying again.  Makes sense, although alittle annoying that nothing really warns you this is happening.  I almost cycled power the first couple times it happened, thinking it was stuck while waking.

  • My iPhone 5s screen flashes blue then boots down or resets identical to 2013 blue screen of death

as stated the phone flashes blue after about 15 mins of use phone dosent even feel hot I've done some searches and came up with the 2013 bug blue screen of death relating to 7.0.3 but my phone is running 7.1.2 any ideas guys really frustrating
    cheers simon

Standard troubleshooting steps as outlined in the manual are restart, reset, restore, and restore as new. Start by powering off the device, and if that changes nothing, a reset as outlined below.
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • My 15" MBP Retina screen has strange lines

    Hi,
So I just noticed that my 4 month old 15" MBP Retina has this strange thin white line and another white mark that's sort of like a bigger 'cluster'. I'm not sure how long it's been there, I thought the screen was just smudged and I was watching a movie, and I began to think hold on, this is in every scene, maybe it's the movie. So I turned the movie off and realised it was there for good.
I'm really bad at noticing these things but now I've noticed it I can't not see it and it is bugging me and I'm wondering how long it's been there for. I've read that the MBP Retina has a little bit of an issue with dead pixels, and i'm wondering if this is the case. Has anyone had experiences with taking it into Apple? I am really frustrated and hope that they fix it because I paid 2 and a half grand for this computer and I shouldn't have to put up with it!
I took a screenshot but it didn't seem to capture it (which makes me wonder if it's dead pixel issues of not) so here's a photo I took with my iPhone.

actually I want to add that I tried my nexus 5 too, and its the same issue, it turns the macbook off , not the screen,
you can try it. there are a spot on the left side below the speaker line, next to fn key.
