MBP retina slow HTTP

Hi, anyone else having problems with MBPr wifi interface for HHTP traffic?
I'm running mountain lion on a 16GB ram MBPr and the HHTP traffic is unbelievably slow. My internet connection is 16Mbit full duplex and ohter protocols as ICMP, RTP and SIP are OK (Skype works). Also, trying with Chrome, Safari or Firefox did not help me.
According to "Network Utilities", my signal-noise  rayio is around 23.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tkm

I did a test on a fresh MBP retina.
At the very beginning, it shuts down in 2 seconds.
After I installed the antivirus software, McAfee VirusScan for Mac V9.1, it needs 20-22 seconds to shut down.
It seems that the antivirus software is making the final check when turns off.
I uninstalled the antivirus sofware. The time for shut down still remains similar. I guess there must be some residue profile left.
Then if I want to restore to 2-3 shut down time ,maybe I need to press command +R to reinstall.

  • MBP retina slow Safari when connected to Buffalo

    Hi.
I am new to Mac world. I recenlty purchased MBP retina. As soon as I brought to home I connected to WIFI (broadcasted by Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H) and noticed very slow Safari despite uncompromized internet connection. It is always written Sending request at bottom left corner of the Chrome window (same in Safari).
I checked on Windows machine, ipad and and experienced instantanous page loading. I switched back to old TP-Link and got very fast page loading in Safari and Chrome as well. It is very frustrating because I need Buffalo for transfering HD videos wireleslly to my TV and cant use the old TP-link router.
So, could you tell me what is the problem that MBP retina' is very slow downloading pages on Buffalo but quick on old router? Am I destined to have slow brosing speed on Retina?
    Thanks for your help.

This isn't customer support - this is a user-to-user forum. You can contact Apple's customer support by calling the AppleCare phone number: find your country here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57.
I don't know anything about Buffalo routers - but it sounds as if the router is the problem, since your 'old' router works well.
    Sorry,

  • MBP retina slow booting after repartitioning and cloning OS X

I bought a Macbook Pro retina 15" (512/16GB) few days back. OS : Mountain Lion 10.8.4
I wanted to partition the SSD to have Windows 7 in Boor Camp (120 GB), then a partition with ExFAT (260 GB) for shared data between Mac and Windows and lastly Mac HD (120 GB) with Mountain Lion OS X.
After searching in the net, I got this link :http://forums.macworld.com/index.php?/topic/139815-successful-setup-os-x-lion-bo otcamp-win7-data-partition/page__st__14 and followed the steps as described the steps in pane # 21.
So to state again what I did,
    1. Used the disk utility to resize the Macintosh HD to 120 GB.
    2. Make another partition of 260 GB in the remaining space. So I now have three partition, the first with Mountain Lion, the second (260 Gb) and the third (120 GB) free.
    3. Booting with the recovery option, cloned the Mac HD from first partition to the last partition.
    4. The system was booting fine with the newly cloned Mac HD (last partition).
    5. Then again booting with the recovery option erased the first partition and formatted with ExFat to make it Bootcamp.
After these steps the system is booting fine with the cloned Mac HD bootable drive but booting is very slow. It takes a minute to show up the apple logo. How can I fix this ?
Should I do a fresh installation of OS X in partition 3 ? Please advise.
    Thanks and best regards,

I solved the problem of slow booting.
Selecting the Mac HD from the start up disk option solved the problem. There was only one option : Mac HD , so I thought it is selected by default. But after selecting it manually and restarting, now boot takes only a few secs. Thanks.

Help!! I'm using a Mid 2012 MBP retina 2.3Ghz i7 with 8GB of ram 256SSD. for the past 2 years my write speeds has been consistently on 400MB/s and up via black magic test. but now it only have 100MB/s going down to 80MB/s. what should I do???? I have already cleaned and even restored my MBP still it's on 100MB/s. please help. I have to finish tasks on a timely manner.

No. This requires completely repartitioning the SSD. You can do that only by using the Network Recovery method or the method I outlined. My method preserves all your data and doesn't require doing a slow Network Recovery. But if you wish to do that instead. The purpose of the whole exercise is to "clean" the SSD of garbage collected during use that tends to cause the SSD to slow down as you've described.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button. Set Zero Data - one-pass, click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • MBP Retina 15" Unused for 2 weeks now slow, unresponsive?

    Hi all,
Hoping someone can help. I've been away on vacaction for 2 weeks - before I left I shut down my MBP retina and left it in a drawer.
Upon returning today it booted up normally, then immediately

any chance it is trying to backup to a TimeMachine drive?  That can make things slow?  If it is the icon in the menu bar will be turning.
What about indexing the drive?  This would be indicated by the magnifying glass for Spotlight pulsing in the menu bar (very far right).

  • Formatted MBP retina (late 2013) HD

I have mistakenly formatted my hard drive on my MBP retina and I am not sure what to do now. When I turn my laptop on I get a blinking questino mark, I can't use internet recovery because I live in Iraq and apparently I can not access that.
Tried booting from a USB with Marvicks on it that I downloaded from the app store in my other laptop (MBP 2011) but it didn't work.
    Any thougts?

The DiskMakerX way will not work either(I know, I have tried it ), because it is a special Mavericks build the late 2013 rMBP is using, this is because the new retinas were released after the release of Mavericks. Apple really should merge the different builds of Mavericks into one universal build in 10.9.2 to stop all the confusion.
You have two options to Install 10.9. Unfortunately to my knowledge both methods need internet access, because you need to get the install file for late 2013 rMBP from Apple's server:
Create bootable USB via recovery to get the right install file for late 2013 rMPB https://discussions.apple.com/message/24277314#24277314
Boot into recovery mode with cmd+r and Install Mavericks http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14243
Can I ask are Apple servers blocked in Iraq? What happens when when you try to hold cmd+r to get into recovery mode? I think this is why internet only recovery is flawed. There are many people living & working(temporarily)
without internet connection, with slow connection or there maybe other reasons not to be able to use the internet recovery.

  • Macbook pro retina slow after 10.8.2 update

updated yesterday my mbp retina, and while my mac partition works fine, my windows system has started IMMEDIATELY lagging.... games i was running at 50FPS for the past month... suddenly dropped down to 5... no patching or updates or any changes..... all in bootcamp.  that's the only thing i've changed....
anyone got any hints on this?
i saw someone posted about resetting the SMC... that didn't do anything for me.....or perhaps i'm doing it wrong?  can someone clarify how to reset the SMc?
i tried holding left shift, alt, ctrl and power same

    UPDATE: Temporary Solution.
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6606352204?page=2
It hes something to do with SMC problem. You have to reset it.
"This is how on the Retina :
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC."

  • My MBP display is not working.  Need to move data to new MBP Retina.

    Hello.
My 3 yr old MBP display failed (display just showing vertical and horizontal lines).
I bought a new MBP Retina today.
Genius Bar told me to simply attach FireWire, then press "T" on old MBP to boot in Target Mode.
Then, look for old MBP HD icon on new MBP Retina desktop.
I cannot find old MBP icon on desktop.
I cannot transfer data from old MBP to new MBP Retina.
    Any help would be appreciated?
    Ken

Genius bar told you right - you need to start your old MBP up into target mode (booting while hold down the T key) but you need to have the right FireWire cable hooked up to the machines before you boot either. What year is your old model? Does it hve FW400 or FW800?
Here are the instructions from Apple - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661. Take a look at it and see if it helps. Also make sure that you have the Finder set so that external and remote disks will show up on your Desktop. When the disk mounts you can either just copy over files or, if you want to transfer accounts and associated directories, use Migration Assistant in your Utilities folder to copy over the info.
Good luck - call back if it's not working.

  • MBP retina + Yosemite + MAGSAFE CONNECTED = freeze and spinning ball!!

    I'm really losing my mind...
Friday I finally installed Yosemite 10.10 on my mbp retina. At the beginning everything was perfect, then new updates like iphoto and imovie started to pop up so I decided to download them. At some point of the download the spinning ball appeared but didn't want to go away, even after 5 minutes. I couldn't use my macbook so I decided to force shut down.
After restarting I could log in, but as soon as I moved the cursor to the dock and clicked on the apps I needed to open (Mail and Chorme) everything froze and the spinning ball appeared again.
    Force shut down again.
The magsafe was connected at all time.
Then I decided to go to the Apple Store to solve the problem. Once I explained the problem to the guy and turned on the macbook in front of him, everything started to work again perfectly.
I looked like a freaking idiot.
He had no explanation, he just told me to use time machine to backup my data and bring the macbook there in case the issue would appear again.
Yes I tried all the possible procedures pressing the keys when the macbook is turned on. (I kept for last the pram reset and smc reset)
    Nothing.
Then this morning I realized the freezing at startup would occur only if the magsafe was connected!!! This is also why at the Apple store there was no problem at startup....no magsafe connected. I tried a few times to use the macbook normally with the battery (even now that I'm writing), and it's working perfectly!! But as soon as I connect the magsafe, go to the dock to open apps or simply click on the google chrome tabs to type in a website, everything starts to freeze again and the spinning ball stays there indefinitely.
I also tried the utility disc (in normal and safe mode). It says everything is ok.
I even tried to delete completely iphoto, imovie and caffeine and to reinstall Yosemite.
I don't want to go to the Apple Store now because it's full of people (iphone 6 just got released here in China).
Could someone help me understand what is the problem??
Thank you for all the help you can provide

Yesterday it started to do the same even with the battery! So it was impossible for me to use it. I went to the apple store...they didn't know what to tell me since the system just got released.
They ran a few tests on my macbook and it showed that it wasn't an hardware issue, it was the software. So they wanted to do a backup of my data (from one of their macbooks) but couldn't because somehow there was a password for Firevault. I never put it!! And it's not the same I always choose for my system.
Result? They had to erase everything (I'm angry because I lost a lot of my work files) and now I'm back to Mavericks 10.9.5 and I have no idea when I'll decide to update again to Yosemite.
Since Steve Jobs passed away Apple is not the same.
My girlfriend has an iphone 5, she installed IOS 8 and everything is slow as ****. Seriously.
It's really disappointing and I (we) don't trust Apple anymore.

  • How can I test my discrete graphics card in an MBP Retina?

How can I test the hardware on the discrete Nvidia grpahics card in my late 2012 MBP Retina?
I've had a *lot* of problems with it which I won't repeat here but the latest fun thing it's doing is crashing and requiring a hard reset any time *anything* attempts to access the discrete graphics card.  This includes but is not limited to:
*Opening system profiler and clicking on Graphics (it displays a blank screen)
    *Running a 3D graphics benchmark
*Running intensive mathematical calculations on the GPU
*Connecting to an external monitor with the thunderbolt port and using the computer for a short period of
None of these things actually work and after unsuccessfully attempting any of them the computer becomes very unstable shortly there after and usually crashes and requires hard reset.  One time I got a crash report that said something about GPU panic.
Any recommendations?  I get the sense that the apple hardware test is not doing a thoroough test of the GPU if at all.
    Thanks.

If they add OSX support for this product and it comes in at a reasonable price point, it could be an attractive solution.

Also, there are products from other companies that allow connection to PCIe cards through thunderbolt.  These two are geared more towards professional use (Audio/Video I/O cards).

  • Running two displays from MBP Retina under windows

I'm looking at purchasing a MBP Retina 13".  I have two external monitors that can accept HDMI and DVI (neither can do displayport).  Some software that I run requires me to sometimes boot into windows.  Under windows 7, can I output a DVI signal from each of my thunderbolt ports?  Do I just need to run two mini-displayport to DVI adapters?  Or is not that simple?  (both external monitors are 1900x1080)

    Hi,
    read the documentation:

and you will find multiple errors, you probably did.

  • My late 2013 MBP Retina battery gets only about 4 hrs. What might be wrong?

My late 2013 MBP Retina battery gets only about 4 hrs. What might be wrong?

    I found a solution!
Perhaps this is just temporary, but I have my display up and working again.
Although the symptoms are different were a bit different, the solution here worked:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/120259/grey-screen-after-login-blue-scr een-of-death-from-cmdr
As I was able to connect to my HD via an external monitor, in the finder, I went to:
    1. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Extensions
    2. From there I moved all of the files that started with ADM and ATI (19 in total for me) to a folder on my desktop. (You will need to enter your admin password for this)
    3. Next was a restart.
    4. Then my display started working again.
    5. After that, I transferred the files back into my Extensions folder.
    6. I then did another restart with my fingers crossed and breath held. It worked.
Also... During the last few days of trying to find a fix, I restored a Mavericks backup to my computer away from Yosemite.
I'm very sure this problem occurred when I put my MBP to sleep, disconnected the power in its sleep, while something was connected to a USB port and unplugging the USB device (for me an iPhone charger) while the MBP was closed.
I hope this helps the next person.
